  • Timmy picked up a TYT TH-9000D several months ago, to have a few more RF ponies in his 1.25 centimeter experimenting, but he's never opened the box until now! Plus, for added joy, adventures in the poorly translated owner's manual.

The TH-9000 is a fantastic robust radio. Many are used in repeater and link duty service.
I offer support and repair for them.

There are 5 of us with the same problem ,intermittent audio/receive after about 6 months . We tired to make a repeater out of two of them and they failed big time and bought a bridge com repeater.. A factory reset help but did not fix. We are all ready to toss them out.

Figured it out. Just got the radio. Factory reset. Go to desired ham frequency, in vfo mode . Press and hold p4 and the offset screen will appear. Rotate to 1.600. Then press p4 and while holding that , press function button and a negative should appear. Repeat p4 and function to go positive or off . Then exit menu. Now while still in vfo on that frequency you should be set right. Then press function once to see memory channels ,rotate the tuning knob to desired number and push p3. It should now be in memory. Working for me . Have not tried the software yet , hope this helps. 73's

THIS is the ticket right here. Yeah, 2 years later I finally got the radio out to play again. Ha! I'll make sure we do an updated vid soon. Thank you so much! 73 Tim KB9SNL

I've got this TYT on order along with a ground plane ant. 30 years ago,, even aa a General, I would spend time hitting 220 repeaters in S. Illinois and beyond from KY with a 220 yagi.
Keep in mind, most Hams drop out of Amatuer Radio, not because of computers, but due to the total volume of Hams trying to make contact in vain.. . . . and giving up. Just a thought

Yep! I had EXACTLY the same problem trying to set the repeater offset. It just didn't work as the manual said it should, so in the end, I just gave up on setting the offset and direction (+ or -), and transmitted directly on the repeater INPUT frequency. That got me into the repeater okay, but I had to use another rig (connected to a different outside antenna) tuned to the OUTPUT frequency of the repeater, so I could hear what was going on! The instructions in the ''User's Manual'' are a total disgrace, especially the bit about the repeater offset direction and frequency.
TYT (and their sister brand ''Retevis'') should be totally ashamed of themselves for producing such a useless ''User's Manual'' !!

I have the TYT TH-9000D as well, PITA to program, the manual it comes with is for the 2 meter version. I finally got it programmed for the repeater and saved in the memory channel but my local repeater is down right now. It is a fairly decent radio and sounds wonderful but support is virtually non-existent.

I have one of the Leixen tri banders in my truck. Also have an Alinco DR235 at home (but no antenna up at the moment). Somewhere I have an old 222 transverter I used for weak signal work back when I was doing the VHF contest rover thing. Hope to do that again, someday... I have a few HT's that cover 222 as well. 73 & keep up the good work! K9ZF

It’s not the 1.25 meter band. It’s the 220 mhz band. It’s also called the 1.25 centimeter band I believe.

You know what, you’re right. It is indeed 1.25cm. My mistake! -Tim

I think that's the first one I will try. Thinking of setting up the big beam again at Field Day out at our club and making some attempts to see what I can do with it!
