Around 2001 I remember buying a used Kenwood TM-742a tri-band mobile with 6m, 2m and 70cm modules. It was so neat having all three bands in ONE small radio, and unlike other models of that period such as the Yaesu FT8900R and the Standard C-5900DA, the Kenwood could actually monitor all three bands simultaneously. I know the QYT KT7900D quad bander may not be of the same overall quality as these models but it still amazes me how utterly inexpensive this radio is today for all it does.
My friend HamRadio 2.0 thank you very much for this video, you can not imagine how important it was for me. They had told me that this radio was not good, that it did not give even 10w of power and its video was enlightening. Thank you. 73 PY3AQ
I thank you, this week I am going to buy my QYT KT-7900D thanks to your channel of videos we radio amateurs of Brazil we have more general knowledge of various equipment. I love being a Ham Radio. I'm a HamRadio2.0 fan. We are together, and together we are strong.
thanks for the review I had been looking at the qyt 8800d dual band for a while, did not know they had a quad band version. I know there is also a simular radios from btech uv-25x2 and uv-25x4 but they are not listed in chirp software yet BTW the qyt radios are chirp programmable
5 + years later, I have this in my car. It's a decent tx..Fair rcv. The 7900 antenna advertised on Ebay is garbage on 220, Swr varies wildly between frequencies on 2 meters. I went back to using an ancient Tram 1/4 wave dual bander mag mount. Having to teplace the dtmf mic Not a biggie. They're under 16 bux while they last (10/22) on Amazon. I might buy a monoband linear instead of buying a 50 watt radio although I hear QYT 780 pluses are putting out much more leading to questions of long term reliability
A word of warning about the 7900D from the same company! This radio is set up to transmit without the Mic attached. If the button on the right side of the screen in the middle of three other buttons is pushed the radio will go into transmit without the Mic attached. It burns up the radio if you do this without an antenna attached! Ok I'm stupid but the designer is a SOB
Thank you for the video. I have one and use it on our 220 repeater. What I cannot find is if it can listen to the other frequencies while set on one. I have two repeaters I want to monitor and it only listens to one.
hi I am looking at getting a QYT KT7900 for my car would the audio be improved with an external speaker as I don't want to put an expensive radio in my car incase of it being stolen
Question about this radio. I can't find the answer to my question anywhere I've looked. Can you change the display on this radio to only display 1 channel at a time or will it only always show 4?
Hey....itu sama dengan radio punyaku.... QYT KT 7900D.... Untuk uang yang sedikit seperti penghasilan aku.....sudah cukup lumayan.... Radio Jepang memang ok punya.... Aku pake dj w100 awet memang ....bosan pakainya.. Tapi seperti tadi....karena uangnya kurang terpaksalah beli QYT.....
Jason the one question I had. Since the 4 band slots are independent is it possible to RX on more than one at a time? Maybe at least a WX alert? Thanks for your work on this! It will be my next radio.
hi, iam pu1wcp evandro fron rio de janeiro brazil.. i bought thesse radio ..is arriving.. but i will noto use im my car.. i cancut out thesse adapter for car and put the red and black direct in my power suply? tanks 73 i see all your videos always..
why the hell did you not test the 350band when it goes into a dumyloade? it would say something about the overal performance of the radio AND there are a lot of ppl in other parts of the world with different bandplans that would benefit
These things are junk. They pickup LOTS of intermod! Might do OK if you don't live next to interference sources. These low end SDR based radios are common for this, But It's a $90 mobile radio what can you expect?
I'm not impressed. I don't like the way the screen layout is, and I'm tired of the list type of radios. Even the Yaesu FT-7900. I much prefer having seprate radios in one case like the FT-51r or the FT-8100.
I got one Jason and I like it. I have a tri - band antenna hooked up and it works good in my mobile

Ronny Julian I didn't try that. I think so, but not 100% sure.
Ronny Julian it will switch them for monitor but you listen on just one of them ,like baofeng
all the baofeng type radios are like that
this vid convinced me and just ordered one. Can you use an external speaker? tnx fer video.
No captions - why???
This video is old - before YT automatically put captions in every video. I can check to see if I can add them manually.

whether its related to quality control or inferior parts who knows

I Like Japan Ham Radios they have much better Build,
For the most part, that is correct.
because they cost more 😂

cut the st off in menu for squelch tone Eliminator
Jamey Busbee Yeah that's it. And yes they all do that, but since I rarely use Baofeng, I didn't remember.
