Love the millennium falcon background you have.
Great Job! I didn't realize it was this easy and will now be ordering a few of these! Thank You!
Thanks Ham Radio Dude! I have two AllStar Link nodes running on the TYT TH-9000D radios and I LOVE THEM!!!! I couldn't have asked for a better deal. The radio's don't ever get hot and the transmit and receive audio is GREAT!!
Nice! It's good to see other options out there for this radio! Also, I must say that you have fine taste in cutting mats 🙂
LMBO!! The best cutting mat that Wal-Mart sells Ha Ha Ha!!! Ever since I discovered the TYT TH-9000D I was impressed and relieved that there was an Alinco alternative out there. And that the 220Mhz version is always readably available.
Masters Communications sells the Rim Alinco Device for Allstar for these radios as well.
Awesome Thanks!! Do you have a link by chance?
I apologize. I misspoke when I said Masters Communications. I should have said the Rim Alinco is available at Repeater Builders site.
I think risking a little stress on the solder joints to route it away from that super hot "60 watt" transistor might be worth it. It's worth a thought as to not melt your new cable.
Got your APRS Thurday message today and subscribed :)
Awesome THANK YOU!!
@@HamRadioCrusader Great video. I'm planning on doing something similar soon. Might I recommend you reverse the direction of the 120 fan on your home radio. It's best to draw the hot air away from the radio and creates better air flow. Your fan will probably become noisy with all the air disruption between it and the radio as is.
@@MI7DJT I will give it a try. THANK YOU!
@@HamRadioCrusader Much obliged my friend.
Great video Fred
Thank You Sir!
I have a tyt 9000 as a node also. Curious as to how long they will last. Mine is about 8 years old and i started using it as a node a year ago still working good
If they have proper cooling and surge suppression I think they have the potential to last a long time. Awesome Radio
Is this your setup for getting your local repeater on Allstar? Is it doing crossband repeat...hence the need for extra cooling?
Sorry for the late reply Randall. Some of these comments get away from me. The extra cooling all comes down to “Duty Cycle” these radios are designed for a 5-5-90 duty cycle. Transmit 5% of the time and RX 5% of the time and idle 90% of the time. But when used as a local area node or a repeater transmitter, the duty cycle goes up exponentially and makes the transmitting radio overheat. Thus the need for external cooling.
This particular set up here was used for a local All-Star node. One radio in a semi half duplex sit setting.
Another great video, what power supply do you use for this radio?
I use an Astron 15amp
I wonder if you can use this to work with windows and zello
I haven’t done that with this radio, but I don’t know what not.
I may have to try it out.
I have three of them on Allstar nodes and they are Rock Solid
@@HamRadioCrusader do you know if the radio can be unlocked to use gmrs? This would be good for getting the Retevis repeater online
These radios will not power up in "on" condition after a power outage. There is a connector on the back for "external power" which appears to be an ignition sense port. I think you could wire it to 12v permanently but the small barrel connector is difficult to find. It appears that TYT doesn't really sell that cable. When I made my own, it didn't work.
Do do you just live with the fact that the radio doesn't stay on?
Mine powers back on after a power outage. All three of them do in fact
@@HamRadioCrusader neither of mine do. I programmed mine from the front panel not the software. Is there an option in the software for that or did you use the special little Cable in the back mine are the 220 versions
@@BufordBuzzard I programmed mine from the front face also. But I will check the software, you can download it from my website www.hamradiolife.org
@@HamRadioCrusader mine definitely do not power on in their last state. I wonder if there's a version difference. These are the 220 radios. I feel that this should be a software option but there is no mention of programming it in The Limited instruction manual. If you programmed yours from the front panel and they work properly that kind of indicates that you don't need the software to change it. The frustrating thing is is that once I did find a plug to fit the little external power jack it still doesn't power up properly. I'd be very interested in finding out more about how you got yours to work! I believe I'm still in the window of time to return them but I don't really want to have to go through that hassle.
I just seen this video and the radio you show is not made anymore. Very sad.
Haven’t heard that. You can still purchase them from Ebay, AliExpress and Amazon.
$40 for a cable? No thanks. Try buying them from RPC Electronics. $15. And you can get then in 9-pin D type or 6-pin mini DIN
I just make them myself. It’s way easier and cheaper.
can you change the display backlight color? i saw a pic it had the nice bright old school amber color. but every video i see it is a nasty dark red light or blue.
Yes I believe you can, It's blue by default
