This flex bed system is fantastic for people who are just getting into DIY, adventure activities, etc. Allows them to get creative building it out for their specific needs.
Tim, this Maverick truck gets more interesting in every new video. I’m looking forward to Jill reviewing it. I might think it is a full size truck with her in it! Just kidding. She is very insightful in her reviews, so I would enjoy her take on the Maverick. And yes it is a pickup truck in my book with a legit payload of 1500 pounds! Equal or better then many larger trucks.
I can see this truck getting customized so much that it will become a cult classic. The various customizations will fuel an entire youtube channel. Go Maverick.
It makes me think of the Honda Element with an open bed. The base model being very enticing to build the way you want.

As a truck guy/prior mechanic who also commutes long distance for work… I am loving this little truck and wanting one sooooooo bad!

If only I didn’t tow all the time… I would sell my truck to get this.
So I just have to wait until the timing is right. I tow cattle/horse, cargo trailer, and an RV with my other truck.
They are going to make a killing on these, then for the second gen bolt the unibody to a EV skateboard chassis for full electric

I dont like EV's and i have never been interested in hybrids, but the Maverick Hybrid looks amazing to me and I would love to see an electrified Maverick. Electric f 150 is cool and all but we cant pretend an electric half ton will be as capable as a gas counterpart. An electric Maverick to me would be a great size for an electric truck
I love my maverick. Its so easy to customize to fit ones needs.
Was able to view the FX4 maverick from the outside and ranger tremor at a dealer with the wife. She gravitated to the FX4 more since the inside looked larger. Since the kids are grown she now wants to trade in her mini van. I guess Main issue is availability then price can't wait to test drive.

He talked about hockey bags sliding forward when he was standing directly behind the solution; a hockey stick. I keep an old one in the bed of my truck year round, works great especially with a tonneau.

Tim, I wish you would consider getting a my2023 Maverick for a long review. Your pre reviews were persuasive. Love your practicality. My XL hybrid hopefully will be in production purgatory soon. Liked your mpg take on the hybrid but your feedback to Ford on your take would be beneficial to. All.

This truck would do 95% of my towing and hauling needs .plus getting excellent fuel mileage 2.0 fx4 is the ticket for me.

The only issue I see with this vehicle is that cruise control is not available on the base XL.

These Mavrichs are cool CRUCKS. Its not a Car and its not a real Truck its a combination of both. I like it alot because it kind of reminds me of the Elcomino or Rancheros.👍🍻

Obviously Ford's marketing team does not ride bikes. That bike situation in the second truck is a nightmare. Oh we need some bikes? Wal-mart has some things that look like bikes for $230 each. Great, we'll take two! The handlebars are upside down on the left bike. And who has time to bolt the fork to a 2x4, take the wheels off, then ratchet strap the whole mess down? People who ride bikes will throw their real mountain bikes over a tailgate pad. Also, people who ride bikes will have a full suspension bike from the bike shop that cost $6,000, not 200 bucks at Wal-Mart.
Those are quick release clamps on the board, not bolts. Takes like 2 seconds to drop the wheel off, slot the fork onto the board and clamp it down. And I always ratchet strap my bikes on my current SUV hitch rack if I'm going anywhere more than a few minutes away. No reason to risk $6000 carbon flying around!
I honestly feel like these baby Fords are more practical than the F150. If you don’t haul or tow much this truck is like, …..perfect.

Looks like a great little truck.. Just wondering how it compares with a Hyundai Santa Cruz? I (think) their in the same category somewhat. The Maverick certainly looks more truckish compared to the Santa Cruz.

How damn good was that engineering for having the tailgate angle height be the same as the top of the wheel well height? Granted the bed is shorter but in Tim's other video with the 500 # of plywood sheets just makes this truck look better and better. This really should be a desirable option for many.
I'm just curious about Ford's CVT - Is it as good or in the same ballpark as Toyota? Or does it lean closer to Nissan?
As a potential truck buyer, I wouldn't mind the Maverick if I could fit a rear facing car seat in the back, and if the CVT is reliable. I'm really wanting the F150 for the cab space plus the ability to get Lariat trim for ventilated seats, plus the V8 option, but in reality, this would suit my real needs for use other than eventually wanting a camper to tow.

If you get the 2 liter eco boost it comes with more power and a real 8 speed trans as well as AWD which isn’t an option for the hybrid/cvt configuration
Im shorter than you guys and i won't be able to reach that ball.. so instead i have a grabbing stick in the bed so i can grab that cucumber that rolled all the way back to that magnet point. I have a velocity blue also but it came with a drop in bedliner, but i want to remove it because i find a pickup truck much more beautiful without a black liner… the third maverick is so much more shinny that it look like an amazing more expensive truck only because the bed is all blue. I wonder if it is a good idea to have no bedliner. Since i never carry any metal scrap, tools, bricks or anything heavy .. i figure i should remove the bed liner.. and if one day i have load some heavy metal stuff, i would just out a temporary mats during that moment. So i wondering if the bed paint will still scratch with just cooler, plastic bags, and camping gears
The paint might scratch depending on how the gear travels in the bed. I'd be more interested to see if the bed liner can come out without any scratches.
@@Pickuptrucktalk i had to remove the side panel liner once to add some wiring.. i did not see any scratch on the paint.. just dirt probably from the factory. This what im going to do by the end of this summer. I will remove the floor dropin bed liner and the two sides panels. Leaving only the black one in the back because of the ford maverick logo. Then i will put an xlt bedrug. Only the two sides will remain color match and exposed. The xlt bedrug might be harder to clean, but less painfull for the knees. If it doesn't work out.. ill just put back the hard drop in.
a question regarding the 12V 20A fused electrical outlets on each side. Do they get power 24/7 or do they timeout after a certain time after key-off?

That would make sense, but might eat into sales of the overseas Ranger which is their biggest (and maybe most profitable) model. Makes a lot of sense though in that type of market, even more so than the US IMO.

I think it would do well especially since in Spain at least the ranger is pretty big. I see more Volkswagen and Isuzu trucks here but I see plenty of ford kugas. I think the maverick would do well as an alternative to the kuga especially as a hybrid.

Update, I found a picture of the bed storage cover. I scanned it and it brought me to a Ford support site with videos but they don't seem to have all content up yet.
Is the 12 volt connection at the D pillar hot all the time? Hot when on? Switched from inside cab?
My XLT has the LED and house outlet. Do I still have the diy connector? Mine didn't come with the male side. The little led is worthless and I would like to wire in a decent led strip.
Has anyone done the research (Tim) on if the Maverick has the same dims as the early 90’s Rangers?
I haven’t. Just from my perspective on seeing it in person and remembering the 90s Rangers.

No, with the tailgate halfway up, a sheet of plywood would rest on the tailgate and the top of the wheel wells. It mentions that in the video

Why only 400 watts on the plug outlet in bed? I think a hair-dryer needs 1500. How do we diy to raise that 400w?
You don’t DIY more power. You would need a bigger inverter and a more powerful alternator. I talked with the engineers about it and how useless 400 watts of power is for the plug. Frankly, you wouldn’t need to do DIY electrical if the plug was more powerful.

Yes. That is the expanded market and it's working! Outback owners and Prius owners are going crazy over this thing. People who own old school Rangers are also loving it.

Nothing in the bed is innovative. Those features have been on trucks for years.

Those companies don't even build compact trucks yet. Ford does make midsized trucks with 5 and 6 foot beds that are comparable what Nissan and Toyota offer. They're call the Ford Rangers.
You're completely ranting about a vehicle that doesn't fit your needs when multiple car companies, including Ford do make vehicles that fit your needs. If you don't like the Maverick don't buy one.
If I made a video right now, showing how I loaded two 8 ft long 2x4s into my 2013 Dodge Charger and got the trunk closed, do you think that professional carpenters would whine and complain that the Charger wasn't properly designed to hall lumber? No, because it's a dumb argument and so is yours.
@@skybluemarshall My argument is 100% valid. Your response is pure crap. I own the previous generation Ranger. It's the same size as the Maverick, yet it has a 6' bed. The new Ranger is WAY bigger than the old Ranger. Especially the height of the bed. I'm 6'-4", and I can't reach over the sides of the current Ranger's bed. Which mean it's pretty useless. My 5'6" wife can reach over the sides of the my current Ranger's bed. Very useful. FORD IS CALLING THE RANGER A TRUCK. As such, it's on Ford to make sure it works like a truck. A mini-bed DOES NOT.
@@bikebudha01 Your Ranger has a 6 foot bed because your cab is tiny. Most US buyers to want their trucks to double as family cars. That's what helped killed the compact truck.
As truck cabins got bigger, compact trucks became midsized trucks and full sized trucks became gigantic monsters. In the US, single cabs don't sell very well outside of fleet sales. Even on midsized trucks, the extended cabs are barely big enough to seat adult passengers. The only way to revive the compact truck in the US and still keep it small was to sacrifice the bed length.
Most people's thinking about the Maverick is all wrong. This is not a true revival of the mini-truck. Those are dead and gone. Americans no longer want to compromise on their trucks with tiny cabin spaces in exchange for longer beds. The Maverick is not so much a revival of the true mini-truck as it is a replacement for the sedan. The only US car that Ford still makes is the Mustang which they have kept for branding purposes. Since Ford is out of the car making business in the US, the sedan with a small truck bed makes sense for them.
Ford is paying attention what the US market is buying. I would not have believed that Americans would ever buy large, full sized trucks with 5.5 foot beds, but almost every truck builder now offers one and they are selling like crazy. The truck market has changed. I would rather have an extended cab Maverick with a 6 foot bed, but that ship has sailed and it sunk to the bottom of the ocean.
If you want a Maverick with a 6 foot bed, that's probably never going to happen. It's a unibody like a sedan. They can't stretch it without changing the entire platform. You could just buy a Moab style tailgate extender which you could strap on, whenever you need a longer bed. But, you sound like the type of guy who prefers ranting and raving about something that you can't have vs looking into real world solutions.
@@skybluemarshall That's a lot of words to be wrong. I live in truck country. I see far more last gen Rangers than I do current gen Rangers. Because tons of people still want the extended cab with a big bed.
@@bikebudha01 According to Ford marketing management, the Maverick demographic is active 25-35 year olds, city dwellers, entry level sedan buyers and people who have never previously considered buying a truck.
You are not alone in your complete misunderstanding of what exactly the Maverick is and to whom it is being marked. Like many other people, your thinking is locked inside of a box that is defined by what YOU want and what some of neighbors want.
Automotive mass marketing just simply doesn't work that way. They select a segment of the population, they research and survey the people who fit that specific demographic and they design a vehicle which fits the needs and desires of that particular segment of the market. If the Maverick doesn't fit your needs and desires or those of your neighbors, it doesn't mean the truck was designed poorly. It means that you and your truck country neighbors do not fit the demographic of the Ford Maverick and it wasn't built for you.
I get what you're saying. I owned two Datsun mini-trucks back in the day and I miss the now dead mini-truck segment. I'm a 61 year old divorced guy, who owns a condo in a semi-urban area and commutes to work every day. I don't really want a truck with a big cab and a short bed either. However, I do fit some parts of the Maverick's demographic. I want a high MPG vehicle, that rides like a car, can occasionally haul small loads which won't fit in the trunk of sedan and a vehicle that doesn't require a large garage or big parking space.
The Maverick is not a poor design. You just don't fit the demographic and the demand for type of truck that you want, obviously wasn't big enough to support the segment or the true compact never would've died in the first place. It's gone. Face it. It's time to move on now.
100% fail on the "bike" solution. After a long ride, it's great to be able to throw dirty, sweaty, muddy clothes in the bed so you don't stink up the cabin. You CAN'T put stuff in the back if the bed is half open. For that matter, you can't put a cooler and other gear in the back if the bed is half open. (You know, so it doesn't fly out on the drive home). Also, the bed is too small to even put a bike in it under a tonneau cover. (FYI, I have a previous generation ford ranger with a tonneau cover. I can take the front wheel off my mountain bike, then lay the bike flat in the 6' bed with the cover closed. I.e. I can leave the bike in the bed when I go into the store, or around town, without having to worry about it being stolen out of the bed.)

And holy fuck, I just noticed THEY FUCKING EXPECT YOU TO ROTATE THE HANDLEBARS ON THE BIKES to get them to fit. Fuck off Ford, no way in hell anyone is loosening the god dam handlebars EVERY fucking time you put the bike in the truck for a ride.
@@joeyg2860 Tim may be the nicest guy on the planet. But Tim's idea of how to mount a bike in the back of truck is FUCKING STUPID. As someone who's seen literally thousands of people put bikes on their cars, I've NEVER seen anyone use a method that requires the HANDLEBARS to be loosened. Not only would it be a major pain in the ass, it's HIGHLY dangerous, as loose handlebars will result it a crash....

@@Pickuptrucktalk Exactly, Ford makes a huge deal of the bed - they show that you can put bikes in the back, which is a bold face lie - at least how they do it. It's extremely dangerous to loosen your handlebar before every ride. As if you don't tighten it properly before you actually start riding - serious injury could result. AND it's a huge inconvenience to have to do something like that every time to put the bike in/out of the bed.
