Hi. Just wonder can you just paint it over chrome trim instead of wrapping it with tape. I don’t know if it’s going to last. Your wife sure has skill and patience. My GX got rock chipped on the upper chrome trim of the front grille. I tried to touch up with chrome marker pen. It a bit better but still I’m not happy every time I look at it. Nice work! Thanks
What's up brother thanks for your post! so to answer your question, yes you could do regular black paint. However you would have to prep the trim first. the paint needs something to hold on to so you would have to sand the trim down then paint. I used hyper dip which is like plastidip, which you dont need to prep first but it gives it a rougher finish. Here's the other thing to think about, if your going to paint over trim that is near the front or that gets a lot of wind when driving then your going to be doing more maintenance on it from time to time only because where the wind hits it constantly is going to wear down faster. that's why for me, I just changed the whole front grill with the black, I wrapped the sides because that's going to get a lot of wind, and I used hyper dip on the back chrome. I hope this helps and if you have any other questions please dont hesitate to ask.
Do you know how you can actually delete the chromed trims before painting. I don’t mean to cover up with plastic dip or tape or some other methods. I want to paint the piece of chromed trim around the front grille on my GX. I think the paint won’t stick on chrome if I want to paint over it. Any suggestions. Thanks.
You would have to roughen up the chrome so that the paint will stick to it. So basically putting sand paper to it and then painting it. Putting on enough coats that it will not come off. The problem with that is since it’s right at the front were the wind, bugs, rocks, and rain hit the hardest…the paint can you get at Home Depot will only last so long. You would have to re-prep and paint once a year would be my guess.
I Have a Prado in my home in Spain. I also have Lexus GX460 in my home in Alaska, Love them both. I just ordered the rear lights and it says plug & Play. In a video I saw, it shows they come ready to connect to the Prado, but for the GX 460, its brings the proper adaptors and even has the gap fillers for the GX. Any tips on the install you can share, would be greatly appreciated.
Hi William, thanks for your post and thanks for watching! I saw a couple of videos that was the same with having to use an adapter. Luckily, when I got mine, they were already set to plug and play. The only tip I would have for you is the fillers maybe add Extra double stick tape, because the ones that came with mine were weak
@@OJCoz Oh wow, OK. I guess I will have to wait and see how mine arrives. I will certainly add the extra double stick tape, maybe Gorilla brand. Thanks for the quick response, Your GX looks great. Cheers!
Hey bud, hope all is well. If you read this, I am in Alaska and installed my new lights last night. It was fairly simple. I removed the Prado Harness and the resistor, installed the GX connector and done. It all works great, but I get a getting a hyer flash with turn signals, but hazards ok. Should I attempt to put back the resistor?
Just installed, all looks great, but I am getting a hyper flash with turn signals, not too bad, but it’s noticeable. The flashers are ok. I removed the resistor with the Prado connection, should I install back,, the resistor. My mechanic says this hyper is normal with these lights.
Haha she definitely didn’t know what she volunteered for! She just wanted to help save some money so bless her heart! Hah. But she hated every minute of it!
lovely presentation here... thanks for updating us ❤
Thanks brother! Can’t wait to get it back!
Also, forgot to mention! Congrats on 3k! Your crushing it:)

@@OJCoz I really wanna snag those tail lamps! I’m a little skeptical about quality/longevity so staying tuned 😈
I’m not going to lie, I am too. After all, there from china:/. I kept the OEM and if I have any issues I’ll just switch them back.
@@OJCoz I’d do the same - keeping my fingers crossed for you though!

@@OJCoz Thanks. Some others suggested having ceramic coat over paint to protect it.
@haduong5828 that’s an option. It would create another barrier against the elements
Another suggestion would be to price out how much it would cost to wrap it. And also price out how much to replace with all blacked out pieces
wow, im headed across the way when i need the lights done on the colorado 🤣🤣🤣. great work!
Haha I don’t think she will EVER volunteer for that job again! She was so frustrated!!! Hahah

Do these lights have reverse on them? Wondering if you wire them as additional reverse lights, one or the other, or just use original reverse lights
Sorry for the late response Zachary! I do not think they do. I just used original reverse lights.
tried the vinyl wrap on my handles and chrome lower trim def didnt come out as good as her job, ill need to come down there and get some pointers
