I want this Channel to be about my experience in building my Overlanding Jeep Commander, the installs, gear reviews, and family fun. I Just started getting into over landing and I am by no means an expert in any kind of install or modifications. I want to share the fun in doing something for the first time, the mistakes, and the frustration of having to figure out what went wrong. Along with that comes the excitement when it goes well.

In this video I make a quick video on what I plan on changing for the New Year. Nothing crazy, just subtle things that I can improve on to continue to make life pleasant. Leave your comments on what you would like to work on this year and hold yourself accountable.

Camping Disaster!

#camping #overlanding #adventure A lot of mistakes were made. It's easy to start feeling comfortable doing something over and over again but when it comes to being out in the wilderness, there is no norm and things can change quickly. Be prepared gives you the upper hand, and I was NOT prepared.

Family Outing

#camping #family #adventure In this video I take my family out camping to Reddish KnoB Trail. Camping next to the little flowing river/stream was amazing and relaxing. It was my 20 year old daughter's first time camping so I had to make it special. If you notice I setup a four person tent as the restroom just to keep the ladies comfortable and have privacy.

If you want to show off your rig, Commander, or any rig, then send me an email at omarcoz@yahoo.com and we can either FaceTime or you can just send me a quick video of the walk around. I was thinking of even doing a "Rig Roast" haha. Tell me your thoughts.
Changes To The Commander Camper Build

In this video I add the platform that was already in the camper build with just a small modification, I had to fit it around the seat. I also add a small flat platform to keep the fridge level on the back seat. I hope you enjoy the video and if it inspires or gives you ideas for your rig, please subscribe.

Commander Camping on Union Springs Trail
That's not an "instant tent". That's a normal tent
It’s faster than a normal tent. But it’s called an instant tent because the poles are all connected. I didn’t name it:)
@OJCoz it seems pretty well made if nothing else.
Good to have goals. I’ve set a couple also so I can relate. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Jay!
Omar! The Lexus is looking sweet! Happy New Year!!!!
Thanks Tony! Happy new year to you too, brother
Hello Omar, it's nice that you're camping again. beautiful spot. I will wait for the next video!
Thank you Felipe!
Glad that GX cranked up in the morning! Looks like the weather the next day was pretty nice.
Oh yea it was beautiful up there.
Does the GX have a smaller 2nd Battery for ESS? That could be your problem if it does. Jeeps have that problem. When that smaller battery dies, all the electrical goes bonkers. Nice video!
Thanks brother I’ll look into that because I’m not sure. Happy New Year my friend!
@@OJCoz Happy New Year!
If only you had some land of your own to camp on 😅. Glad you had a good time.
Haha officially I do now:). Still enjoy going out and exploring though
@@OJCoz congrats on your new place.
Good video, Omar
Thank you Jay!
Subaru has the problem of leaving the rear hatch open and the battery going dead. Not sure why. Happened to me once when way out, luckily I had a jump starter with me. 🤠
Yeah, I’m still trying to figure out what could possibly be drawing the power just because the door is open and everything else is shut off. I have one of those battery jumpers too, but in my last video I forgot to charge it. Lol. Thanks for your post OutdoorNomad
So I always keep jumper cables, Helo jump pack, wool blanket, food water, 20w solar panel, water purifier, freeze dried food, fire kit, and of course a good firearm. BTW- you are in my neck of the woods. Camped pedlar many times. Did you pass the water fall on way out? One of my favorite water holes to cool off in summer. Lots of excellent locations in Virginia.
Oh yea it’s a very nice spot! Thank you for you post and maybe I’ll catch you out there!
...Did you say 'fridge'?
lol yes I brought my fridge when the low was 15 haha
Super helpful video and love the mods! QQ -- does this filter replacement work for a 2020 GX460 Luxury? Lexus parts website says yes to base model, no to luxury. Thanks!
I would think it’s all the same. I can see year to year maybe changing but same year different model doesn’t sound right.
Wear a mask brother when you spray. Your lungs will thank you years from now. Over spray in your lungs is much worse than over spray on your other panels
100% correct. I definitely will for future projects
😂😂😂
Thank God you're fine! Thank you for sharing this experience. Thinking about it, I don't have jumper cables in my setup either. I see that there are many experts here making firewood from the fallen tree. Every experience is different and the important thing is that you are safe. A big hug and happy new year!
Thank you, Felipe. Happy new year to you!
Sheesh fail after fail luck to be alive. 1. Dont use car’s battery while its not running. 2. Leave car running for atleast 30 min to recharge. Should have also recharged the jump pack. 3. Pack a jumper cable.
Check, check, and check. Thanks for your post, brother!
BRO. 1. you literally have a sealed car & 2 big dogs. You need a heater WHY? 2. iT'S FIFTEEN DEGREES. You sure as fuck don't need a fridge. 3. it's the Pedlar Forest. Easiest walk out ever. I could walk out & I have one leg. 4. ALWAYS bring 40w of solar at least in the car. I strongly suggest you start actually backpacking. It'll fix these leaks REAL fast. Seriously bro. I slept in the rockies at many ski areas WAY colder w zero dogs. Not to mention at 12,000 feet with just a tarp & a sleeping bag. Heaters are for old women barring a heating pad (40w) to keep your hands warm for typing or other work.
I don’t think I would have died lol. It was just not ideal being that I use my vehicle to camp and made a bonehead mistake. Thanks for you comment brother
His video is real life. We all start someplace. At 55, I like a heater. At 20, I carried nothing but a cook can, canteen and mora knife. No fire, no backpacks, no sleeping bags, etc. Again, each person has their own desires for what they seek to gain from nature. There is not ONE way!! He had an adventure and he learned some things….worth it all!!
Well said sir. Thank you for your post.
@@number4777. I'm a few years older than you. I started out more in the giant boots let's bring a cast iron skillet frame pack era. ≈1983. Then let's haul them up into the Sangre de Cristos and the weimenuche (couple of the more severe Colorado ranges.) That's not roll up wet grass and sleep inside it, but it certainly had its challenges.
Glad you’re ok brother
Thank you! I figured I had a few hours before panic that in ha ha, then it would’ve gotten really bad:)
Thanks taking us along with you, and sharing your lessons learned from this latest adventure. Looking forward to the next trip!
Thanks Craig! I’m actually heading onto the next trip right now for redemption lol
@@OJCoz Looking forward to the video! Your trip has inspired me to get the "second battery with isolator" mod on my truck
love the channel ! I really like the TrekWay ! I have a 2005 F250 Crew Cab 8' bed 4.5” lift on 35” tires with a softTopper canvas shell will this work on my truck ?
Yes, I believe it will. There is a lot of fabric to connect to the back of the vehicle and you can make it as loose or tight to fit. The back of my Jeep Commander is super high because of the rear steel bumper and it still has plenty of fabric to use. Thank you for watching Scott! I appreciate you, brother.
@@OJCoz Thank You ! Hope you had a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year !
Thank you Scott! Happy new year!!!
You know that dogs are better than you to support the cold. So you better take care of yourself first. The dogs will be alright. I have my malamute and my Labrador sleeping in my car in - 15 and they were fine. They warmed each other up. So don't be to stressed out about dogs. They way more tough than you
I 100% agree with you. If i had to jump back there and stay another few days you best believe I would have used them as blankets.
If you had been at the Chosin Reservoir, you would have been prepared for this! 😅
Those Marines would have laughed at me if I went down. That was the only thing keeping me going.:)
Bro, if he's been backpacking ONCE old him would have laughed at this him.
Thank god the hunters came by and you got back safe. The temps were crazy.
True. A lot of lessons learned. Thanks Jay!
I've slept in the pedlar with ZERO large dogs, no tent, no car, and 30 degrees lower. The temps were not crazy. It's central Virginia fercrissakes. You kids are lookin at this like it was Alaska or the Rockies. Yer gear crazy. yOUTUbe build crazy. YOu bring a warm bag or you sleep in your SEALED CAR with 2 LARGE NATURAL HEATERS. your fridge goes in a place called "OUTSIDE.":
lol thanks for the ass chewing brother. I’ll do better next time!
18 degrees isnt cold. 😂
Cold is relative haha. Alaska cold is different!! Lol
Good to see you Omar. Espero que te acuerdes de los Jiménez.
Of course I do haha!! I hope you guys are doing great!
Do you have a wrap on this vehicle? If so what is the color!? Looks awesome
I do. The color is called aregenic satin gray. Really love the wrap
I have a 06 hemi commander and I love her !!!! Did a few mods. Lift. Air intake. Flow master exhaust. And Bullydog programmer.
That’s awesome! How does it run with that programmer?
Hello man, congratulations!!, here you have a new subscriber for your new UA-cam channel, hope everything goes well, greetings from Chile.
Thank you, Felipe. I appreciate you.
Congratulations! Looking forward to sharing the journey with you on youtube! Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
Thank you Craig! I appreciate that brother
...can I live in a connex in the back? Congrats buddy 😅
Congrats brother !!! Following!!!
Thank you Kris!!
Congrats man! I’m excited to see what the future holds for you!
Thank you, Mason. I appreciate that.
Congrats on the land. Very exciting
Thank you hermano!!
Wow that’s great. Congratulations on the property. I’ll be your first sub for sure.
Thanks Jay!
You have an update on if you still like it? Love the grill btw
Hey Gerald I’m not sure what your asking that I like. I love everything about the Gx haha. And yes the grill makes it stand apart from the rest
This looks like a great spot! I’m local to the area. Where is this camp site exactly?
Omarcoz@yahoo.com. Email me
I don’t like that I can’t see the traffic light when stopped at a red light. The windshield is too low for this.
Very true xtreme! I have the same issue
Hey that looks fantastic! Do you know the approximate dimensions of your cutout? I want to do a jump-seat delete for rear-access, but I also want to fit a small subwoofer in that space, and I cant eyeball it too well with all of my parts still in. This helped me along with my idea a ton!
I’m glad it helped! Let me know what exactly you want me to take dimensions of and I will go out and do some measuring and hit you back up
@ oh hey thanks a ton! Specifically the dimensions of the cutout that you made, and an approximate of the space from the electrical cover (that would normally be under the jump-seat) up to the cover’s surface would be great! If/when I get the changes made I would love to share them with the channel as well🫡
@SuperxFPS ah ok. So as far as the dimensions that I cut, I don’t have it because I eyeballed it. I literally took the seats out, took the front bar out with the jump seat and cut only what was holding the front and back of the jump seat. The front part of the jumpsuit is pretty easy. If I could do it all over again, I would take my time with the backpiece and make them more even. Right now, my passenger side is about an inch and a half higher than my driver side. I went out and measured this base and I have about 4 inches from the electrical panel to the surface of my small platform. I hope this helps!
@@OJCoz Hey man that's actually perfect thank you. Love the channel, hopefully I'll have something presentable to share when its all said and done!
@SuperxFPS awesome brother let me know because I would love to show it off! Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions
What is the trunk lift gate clearance?
When it’s all the way open it’s about 4 inches away
What I don’t like about my Jeep commander is that they are lemons. The electric system and the computer make the commander fail suddenly when you need it the most. It stop being reliable and I cannot trust is for the apocalypse.
Hey Alex I apologize for the late response. I’m just now seeing this. Mine is starting to give me issues to so I know how you feel:/
Wow
Another question, the electronics that are under the seats… I see you mounted your off-road jack to those covers. Are the covers already there or did you fab those? I would go look myself but I’m away from my jeep until next week. lol have a great thanksgiving, thanks in advance 🤙🏼
Yes those covers should be on your commander. It’s just a hard foam covered in that carpet fabric. Have a great Thanksgiving and be safe.
@@OJCoz fantastic, thank you very much for your contribution to the commander community lol I’ve only had mine about a month and love it!! Always been a jeep 4.0 guy, XJ’s & ZJ’s but this thing is pretty sweet so far, cheers from Seattle🤙🏼
@SSPDIVING cheers brother and I hope it treats you great!
@@OJCoz hey man, thanks for this video and for answering my question. I pulled the seats the other day and LOVE IT. I also put new tires on but the jeep rides so much better! Much less weight and added at least an inch of height in the rear. Thanks man, cheers🤙🏼
You’re welcome brother. I’m glad I could help!
I use my commander for work. I took the third row out but will be removing the second row after seeing your vid. Even folded down, they take up SOOO much space haha.
I definitely agree. If it wasn’t for having to take kids to practice, I would keep the second row completely out.
I would love to talk to you, you may not like what I say, lol, we are very rare sir
Is yours still running strong? Do you take it on trails?
Hello sir I've just found you, I live in UK and I own a beautiful 3.0 crd jeep commander, can you answer me something, you obviously love your jeep as I do mine, I look at mine in the car park, I smile lol, I get in her and, that feeling sir, I don't understand that feeling
Haha what's up sir, Yea I get in mine and feel the same way brother.
I'm noticing, none of these SUV tent makers, do not make the tent open from directly from the back, but to the side. GRRRRR/!😡
I’ve seen a couple on Amazon. I even got one in the beginning but it was crap. There has to be a good one out there!
Looked like awesome camp!
It’s definitely been my favorite so far:)
nice hoodie !!!
Thanks Kris!!
As always, very good video! nice spot to share with the family, thanks OJC!
Thanks brother! It’s always a great time
Looks like you guys had some fun. The place looked very nice and them hamburgers me me hungry 🤤
Thanks Jay. We almost had the whole crew. Missing my oldest daughter. I’m gonna get her out there camping:)
