    It might be a good idea to replace the rack unit since it's worn. JEG has a camber gauge that reads in degrees. Also a toe-gauge for cars and one for trucks and one for golf carts.

    Just failed a vehicle inspection due to rotted front subframe. Going to try this at home on a 2008 Ford Fusion 3.0L...hopefully it's somewhat similar.

    Thank! Very good video, but some moments are cutted...
    We look forward to the next such video "How To" about removing the gearbox and replacing the clutch ;)
    Still there is a request ... could you do a review video on your car. What is installed, what was altered, etc. Interested in the intake and exhaust system, braking system

    Can you advise me please!
    I was about to change front ARB bushes on my 2006 Saab93 diesel when i realised i couldn't get a spanner on the rear bush clamp bolts as they are tight against the bulkhead. Is it possible to undo a few subframe mounts and maybe prise it down to reach the bolts without to much dismantling? I would love your imput, thanks, Carl.

    Hello! I love watching your videos. I just want to ask, I'm planning to engine swap my ford festiva and turbo charging it. its around 23 years old and i'm just a little worried that when i'm travelling at high speeds or cornering, it would be unsafe because of the old metal of the car specially underneath. What do you think i should replace or reinforce in my car to make sure that my wheels or my car stay intact?

    How many hours of labor are required to complete this job ?? Did you have to do a front end alignment after the New Subframe was installed ?? Again Thanks & Cheers !!

    Awesome video but I think I missed a step when dropping g down the subframe with the rack attached. Do you disconnect all ps lines before dropping the rack?

    great video! Do you have any tip for rebuilding the manual transmission on the Contour? We run a 98 Contour in ChumpCar racing and it seems our synchro is shot, so we're going to swap the transmission. Also, we've only been able to find OEM clutch kits, so any advice on finding performance parts would be really helpful. Thanks again!

    • @ForgottenSVT

      Unfortunately, i dont know anything about rebuilding the transmissions on these cars. I had my wife's boss rebuild mine for me, as he owns and operates a transmission shop. As for clutches, i've always run a Luk rep set and i have yet to have any issues with it *knocks on wood

    Where do u get the replacement bushings? I have a 2001 mercury cougar with the same exact subframe, bushings have the same part number but I can't find them anywhere due to ford discontinuing the part... I just pulled a subframe off of another cougar but the bushings will last probably a year or so..

      This is basically the same procedure for doing the steering rack. You just have to remove the steering lines form the power steering pump.

    That's a fantastic video. Great job....you need to get onto 'Wheeler Dealers'! You clearly know what you're doing and you describe it well with good video. Approximately how many hours of work are involved?
    I'm just turning 73 so I reckon it could take me up to 2hrs to do it....I do have a jack and some axle stands so my only problem will be physically getting back up once I'm under the car. Maybe I'll wait til I die and then they might let me use the coffin hole as a pit for doing this job....that would make it easier....in one way.....
    :) Cheers from UK

    • @ForgottenSVT
      @ForgottenSVT  6 років тому +2

      I can usually do this job in about 1-2 hours depending on how hard i'm working at it. The subframe is easier to put back up into place if you have two jacks and two sets of hands! Good luck! And dont die too soon! hahaha

      Well, every car is different, but basically the same concept. You'll need to disconnect your rack, control arms, sway bar links, any mounts, support your motor and remove the main bolts holding the frame in place.

      Cost me $100 for a used cradle. About 4 hours labor. It could take several more hours because of hiccups like rusted bolts etc. Most charge from $75/hour to $150/hour. Also some mechanics will not accept outside parts. So you'll end up needing a brand new part that they'll order and mark up the price.

    • @floridarunner4089
      @floridarunner4089 11 місяців тому

      I also snapped a sway bar end links bolt so I had to buy another link.

    • @floridarunner4089
      @floridarunner4089 11 місяців тому

      80% of the time the exhaust bolts will break also.

    • @floridarunner4089
      @floridarunner4089 11 місяців тому

      And that's all assuming that the cradle is the only problem. Most of the time they're rusted, which usually means there's more rust elsewhere. Radius arms especially.

  • @yourlatinombre69
    @yourlatinombre69 6 років тому

    Good video but you forgot to mention to support the drive train, only thing holding on yours is now one motor mount That probably will need replacing if you didn’t support the engine and transmission.

    • @ForgottenSVT
      @ForgottenSVT  6 років тому +4

      Actually, that's incorrect. There is an engine mount and trans mount still attached when dropping the subframe. The 2 mounts remaining are the main support mounts. The front and rear mounts that i remove with the subframe are just roll resistors and support no weight.

      Yeah, the 2000 model year was with the easy stamp, double, control arms. The earlier had the single LCA & generally a non-interference zetec-e or the standard v6. I think all the early svt's are long gone now. Seems like only the 2000 svt is still relevant.
