I second that: I started researching building cars and a Macphearson / double wishbone (SLA) / multilink thorough explanation is needed/wanted by many.
Stoked for the whole series!! After this series is over do rear alignment! Setting up for toe gain with squat vs just static toe in. Antisquat adjustment and effects. Rear toe in and how it affects forward vs side bite and float. How to choose spring rates (how soft to go and especially front vs rear setup). Damper adjustment (3-way). Sway bar setup. Watched tons of other videos on rear alignmenr but none are designed for drifters. Everyone focuses on the front alignment!
He should!! And also cover cars that have active and passive 4WS. The car I have has passive four wheel steering which I believe is just a toe out under compression but could be other factor involved, but desperately want to understand it. It’s call Mazda twin trapezoidal link and can’t find crap on it
Best video on UA-cam these days explaining the correlation between caster and better steering and Camber and how it affects everything. Give this man a raise. I am just getting into suspension tuning myself and this video is gold for someone self teaching. Thank you so much.
The visuals did more in this video than school with books and an alignment machine. I always knew that caster changes camber but I could not visualize how. I even saw cars raising up when turning the steering wheel lock to lock but I had no idea why. You’re a genius!
Really appreciate you doing this. It is nice that you go in depth into how suspension works in drifting and explain it so that everyone can understand it. Thank you!
Awesome video, thanks for taking the time to make it and for making the display with colour coding and labelling the parts. Great explanation, going to extreme angles is a great idea to visualise what is happening. Top notch 👍
14:43 - just a fun "fyi" If anyone has an 2wd rc buggy or truck at home (think Associated RC10/RC10T, Losi, Kyosho, Yokomo etc...) they're nearly all set with a factory "kickup"/or caster angle of 30 degrees... You can REALLY see the camber gain on those when you turn the wheels if you own one.
Holy shit this is exactly what I needed thank you! I’m currently rebuilding my GF8 Subarus suspension and I want to tune my suspension properly to be competitive and you explained everything about caster so clearly and the model was super useful in showing how these adjustments affect each suspension part. 10/10
Thank you so much. (SIM DRIFTING) I was having problems with a JZX100 @ the entry @ Long Beach. On entry the steering would get so light it was hard to control precisely under hard throttle with full lock. NOW I think that reducing the caster angle in the front would be the move I need to make. I like my steering to be slightly stiff.
Amazing video! Thanks a million for the epic explanation and visuals, makes it super easy to grasp. Thank you for the time you put into your videos to help all of us. Well done! 👏👏👏
This is absolutely amazing! Thank you so much for taking the time to make these informative and educational videos. I appreciate the effort you guys put into it.
Really awesome videos! Thank you for that content. If the car has a front steering rack, it will be better to add caster from the lower control arm, this way you prevent overcentering right?
Good work guys watching the series now. Lots of great info. I hope some people get this and make it work for them. Grip guys can get plenty out of this. Good work 👍
Which side is the front of the car?? I’m used to the tie rods of the steering being in front of the control arms (sn95 mustang) so to me this is showing negative caster, which is almost never done. What car is this mimicking that has either the tie rods on the back or negative caster? Other than that, great amazing video but I fought to understand where the front of the car was to try and imagine a tire steering in my mind on my car. Excited for the series and I’ll be sharing this on Facebook. Great job!
Watch the video at 3:20. I mention how the car is oriented, for the next video I will label the front of the car for reference! It will be posted tomorrow.
@@FDFraceshop thank you!!! Rear rack, that helps. Also, you mention it’s the drivers side. I’m assuming it’s left hand drive. And that your not in The UK or Aussie, some ppl might get confused or miss it like I did. , not knit picking, just trying to help. It’s a great video. I’m going to keep watching
It’s the front left side he’s mimicking here but he’s also referencing rear caster as well. Also the location of the rack doesn’t seem to matter in regards to the principles. It will when setting up the car but not for the discussion
can you explain how to setup your camber/caster plate above your shock on a s chassis? I would like to understand why they bring the shock to front in most angle kits
Outstanding video kPa for us old folks is that kingpin angle and for maybe a better visual put a string line across the front of the kingpin so you can visually see the flop laser something horizontal as well as vertical can't wait for the rest of the videos
Great videos man, so much better than reading 20 year old forum posts trying to wrap my head around overcentreing and ackermen angle (I watched toe and ackermen video first) Keep it up
I’m really looking forward to using this info in my new edge, going to be doing this year on modified stock knuckles, and after a year of that I’ll be getting whatever parts you have for the new edge!
Thanks for sharing the knowledge! Im actually in the market for suspension upgrades for my Z32 300zx drift car for the drift season so ill definitrly be in touch. Cant wait for the rest of the series!
Great video! Was searching for such a video series for some time. You really explain it in a very good and clear way! Keep up the great work :) As an idea maybe explain how to setup your car for more grip or less grip. Or how to tune a 3 way coil over.
FDK can you address the issue of cars with Macphearson for racing? I see many defending Macphearson because Porsche, BMWs, Subarus have it. I am looking for a car my self to do my first build and I'm confused (as faaaa ...). I even read that a badly executed SLA can be worse than strut so idk what to think anymore. Somebody educate me already :D
Take a shot every time he wipes the torpedo level off before sticking it to the different components 😂.. jk very informative video, thanks for making it!
This is probably going to be the best video series ever created on youtube.

This is awesome. I thought i was decent at suspension tuning and you just opened up another world for me
Same here, pointed out things I’ve never even thought of
This just became one of my top 5 favorite channels.

Duuuuuude I am so excited to learn and understand more about suspension geometry from this series please do go on! Sharing!

Awesome explanations of the consequences of caster. Finally figured out why the steering is binding.
Great work! This is just a cornucopia of knowledge!
Excellent video, very informative. Look forward to the other suspension vids!
this is the best explanation of suspension system and its effects I have ever seen. thank you
Wow. Been watching a lot of videos and none touch on the different ways to adjust things and the secondary items they affect. Absolutely great.
Incredible details! Being an is300 guy I'm super hyped for the double wishbone episode.
Awesome work! Very well explained and visualized. Fdf stocks about to rocket!

the information offered here is amazing.
Props for putting in the work to make that jig to teach us all.
This is a great way to illustrate the relationship between caster and camber. I was going to build a rig similar to what you have for the same reason!
Thank you, kind sire! Can’t thank you enough for putting the series together. 🥳

Is it a bad idea to increase castor for a track car that had double wishbone. I went from 3⁰ to 5⁰ and the car oversteers pretty easily now
I went and got some caster oil to fix my caster issues and poured it on my suspension. But it didn’t help. Please advise.

Are you going to cover trail in another video?
If one wheel has positive caster and the other wheel on the same axle has negative caster, can that cause a vibration at highway speeds?
thanks so much for this! very informative
Great video very informative
What’s that tool he is using to measure?
@14 min wouldnt the left turn = neg 9 deg camber and the pos 9 when turning right? nope nm im mistaken my bad
Very good job!

yes on double wishbone suspension

Fantastic
At 14 minutes you got positive and negative camber mixed up, you should add a correction in there
correct, I thought the same
Thanks! Very Good!!
