Just love your curls! They are so beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I don’t think I would ever have those kind of curls (darn!). I wish I had them. My hair is growing out from a pixie and my hair is about 2-2 1/2 inches long. It’s hard to have it so short. But I know each day it will get better. Thank you for all your videos!
Your hair is stunning. I simply do not have the time to style my hair curly anymore. I work in healthcare and I have to wash my hair often. It’s such a bummer. I miss my curls.
If the deva curl root clips are too expensive I found some really similar clips at walmart, it was a pack of 30 for like less than $3. Hope this helps!!
JUST found your channel, this vid especially has been a HUGE help to me. went back to my natural about a month ago, your tips&tricks have been great! would’ve NEVER thought to use a scalp massager, it totally works! thank you for sharing, you have beautiful hair🙂
I can see where waiting until your roots are setting and lifting the hair in decent sized pieces work ..I seem to have way more volume in my next day hair after having my hair pineappled…gonna try this clipping method
MEMORIES71922 I don’t know if you’ll see this, but you could use tiny, mini claw clips in a color as close to your hair as possible. I saw a video here on UA-cam that showed a woman who did that and she would just hide tiny claw clips in her hair and leave them! It’s genius! Lol
Thanks for the video on clips. Its always so hard to figure out which way will give the most height on top. Unrelated but, have you ever used a Denman brush? I've seen some great results from other UA-camrs. (I'm waiting for my to arrive in the mail.)
Ann Goodman I haven’t tried the denman brush! I’ve thought about trying it just for fun but my guess is it wouldn’t work amazing for me because my hair doesn’t even like me raking through it
Stanka Kordic my hair is so fine that if I clip them in wet, they will start sliding down the shaft. From my scalp to about 1-2 in. down the shaft, my hair’s straight, and the rest is curly. So wat I’m trying to do, is create come curl there in order to add volume to the rest of my hair! Thanks mom and dad for creating a 1/2 French 1/2 Mexican-Jamaican mixed chick. My hair is super confused. 😂🙈
What technique is there for a busy mom of 2 toddlers and a 9 year old? Very thick and curly wiry red hair 🙃. Just can’t rush through so many steps and products used. Advice?
Great content as always 🙏🧡 It would be interesting to get your tips on other curlies to follow, for different hairtypes. I have a hard time finding curlies-tips for ”typical” scandinavian hair, i.e light brown, fragile, frizzy, dry haha. Although following the curly girl method has really given life back to my hair that I used to put heat on every day..
I agree with Janelle that this method is better done with dry hair for people with more fine and fragile curls. If it’s wet, the stress of the pulling and stretching in the process of root lifting seems to increase breakage. Whereas when dry, the hair is stronger for this purpose.
Hi! I don't diffuse-any recommendations for alternative ways to get more volume / root lift? Thanks!! Also... what are some of your favorite Devacurl products?
One of my earliest videos is on all of my favorite volume tips! I also just posted a video with all of my favorite products with quite a few devacurl must haves as well!
I’m going to try the clipping but your hair texture is very different than mine. If I fluffed like that my hair would look like a ball of yarn after 10 cats played with it. Can you say frizzy?
It honestly depends on the day. I don't really have one product that addresses all my needs. Leave ins I think are the most diverse and important. I think they can make or break a good washday. Lately i have been obsessed with Cachos Brazil Rio Mist & W2Naturals Gorgeous Collection Leave in.
@@JannelleOShaughnessy thanks for your answer! I noticed that leave-ins weigh my hair down. I'm now on the hunt for some lightweight products. Just started my journey like 3 months ago. It's not easy but hopefully worth it! :)
Jannelle O'Shaughnessy Engels Thanks! What I’m having the most difficulty with is styling. Trying to figure out how to lay my curls while they’re still wet so they look good when I do dry with diffusing.
Hi, Jeannie. I found one at the Dollartree store a few months ago, but if they don't have it anymore, Amazon has them for sure. The packaging labeled it as a Spa Comb, so perhaps that will help you in the search. Positive vibes and curl on!
Brittany Pate look up pin curl clips. DevaCurl discontinued theirs. No idea why 🤷🏻♀️ I sometimes also use metal alligator clips. They’re just a longer version of these
I kind of trained my part over to the side and now it just falls there for the most part naturally. I don't do anything with it until its dry and at that point I only typically move a curl or two to make it deeper.
I asked my stylist to pick some up for me at her beauty supply store. Apparently they are discontinued and if there are any in stock they are extremely overpriced. They were trying to charge $45 for one package. I don't know how many are in the package, but that's ridiculous.
jenallday yes it can be hit or miss because it is a completely plastic product. Bed bath and beyond often carries the Therawell scalp massager which I haven’t heard of having those issues the issue is just if they carry them! It’s a fairly new product to the market so not super easy to find.
Lala, Amazon sells the same clips from various sellers for much less than the ones she used in the video. I agree that brand names aren't necessarily the best.
OMG! I tried your root clip style and my hair is soooo high on top this morning!! Sharing this video with daughter & sister now!
My hair has been so flat lately. I'm going to try this.

Your eyeshadow has given me life!
I need a tutorial for that eye makeup!! It's stunning!
For sure!
If you dong want to use a scalp massager, you can use a pick. Thats what they are made for.
Loved this!!! I always need new ways to style my curly hair.
Your hair is stunning. I simply do not have the time to style my hair curly anymore. I work in healthcare and I have to wash my hair often. It’s such a bummer. I miss my curls.
Did you try plopping? I have to start work really early in the morning. But with plopping i can get beautiful curls without much effort.
You look so naturally happy :)
If the deva curl root clips are too expensive I found some really similar clips at walmart, it was a pack of 30 for like less than $3. Hope this helps!!

Brava Jannelle, brava!! This tutorial is outstanding. Thank you.
❤❤❤❤ I have Natural curly hair this tutorial is fab!!!
I really love your channel. I didn't know how to enhance my curls! Thank you!
Looks great. I will have to try it that way!

Your hair is amazing! My hair would get so tangled trying to do that! haha
For some reason, my clips always fall over. I can't get them to stay upright like yours. I'll keep trying though because I need volume!!!
Same here
I wish there were clips that i could hide in my hair and keep there. And you are beautiful. Love watching you're videos.
I so agree with you!

Yes! I want to keep them in my hair too. I have long curly hair! Its big hair too
I use 1 huge clip, bobby pins, and clips at the dollar store and my curls are fly and HUGE!
Just saw your video, thank you so much for sharing your routine and OMG l love your dog 😍
Thanks for this video. Definitely trying your tips.
Your hair is so beautiful....but the make up is just 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Super helpful, and OMG I love your makeup! What eyeshadow do you have on here?

My hair is so heavy, they flop...so I have to make sure I slide them in touching my scalp and it works so much better.
Stanka Kordic that makes sense! I do similar in some areas!!

Trying this with wet styled hair and this feels like a nightmare. Feels like I'm just pinning my curls flat to my head
Your hair is so beautiful
But I think I have two left hands...😒 I put the clips, but it ends up a mess everytime...
Love your makeup!
What technique is there for a busy mom of 2 toddlers and a 9 year old? Very thick and curly wiry red hair 🙃. Just can’t rush through so many steps and products used. Advice?

Sorry I didn’t get the part when u are putting the clips is your hair still damp or dry?
She said you can do it both ways, her hair was dry
Starts at 2:30...
Do ypu ever spray it first before taking clip out?
Can you review the Blueberry Curls bliss products?
The Leave in Conditioner... 🙏
I think thats something i can do!!!

Would this work with off brand clips or are these special? I've seen some like this at sallys
Yes! The devaclips are a bit wider but I get pretty identical results with the ones from Sally’s.
scalp massager 👍 cool idea for lift
Eyebrows 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Thank god for you!
Omg this worked! TY
Hi there! do you ever do this between wash days?
Yes! Sometimes when i refresh and have used water!
Nice video!
are there any clips out there that don't snag hair? anyone may answer to help out! TY!
Hi great video gorgeous hair, do you have one length hair?
Dear Lanelle, where can i buy the clips?
Gorgeous!!
Did you fluff before you placed the clips? Thanks for sharing.
Pamela Fitzpatrick I dont! Fluffing is the last thing I do!
Jannelle O'Shaughnessy Engels Thanks! What I’m having the most difficulty with is styling. Trying to figure out how to lay my curls while they’re still wet so they look good when I do dry with diffusing.
Definitely need to learn how to do this, my roots have NO volume!! @somuchmorethanskincare
Same here, & no curl near my roots either. My curls starts a couple of inches down.
Hi, Janelle. What is that tool you're using to lift your hair? I'd like to get one.
Hi, Jeannie. I found one at the Dollartree store a few months ago, but if they don't have it anymore, Amazon has them for sure. The packaging labeled it as a Spa Comb, so perhaps that will help you in the search. Positive vibes and curl on!
What is the blue comb you use?! 😍
Where does everyone find these clips?
Brittany Pate look up pin curl clips. DevaCurl discontinued theirs. No idea why 🤷🏻♀️ I sometimes also use metal alligator clips. They’re just a longer version of these
Hope this products work on my hair
I'm dying cus I can't find any deva curl clips 😭 they discontinued them and haven't made new ones wweehh lol
I have similar clips linked in my amazon!
@@JannelleOShaughnessy thank you very much, you're adorable!
I am beginning this process...not sure what to do about parting my hair! What to you do?
I kind of trained my part over to the side and now it just falls there for the most part naturally. I don't do anything with it until its dry and at that point I only typically move a curl or two to make it deeper.
Do you know where else you can get the root clips they have been out of stock for awhile on amazon?
Sally's Beauty Supply :)
Claire Shea they don’t have the devacurl ones
I asked my stylist to pick some up for me at her beauty supply store. Apparently they are discontinued and if there are any in stock they are extremely overpriced. They were trying to charge $45 for one package. I don't know how many are in the package, but that's ridiculous.
@@joannaeppler7086 yes- I've been trying to find a package or two as well but no luck. Any leads?
Whats your hair color?
Loved it!
Thanks Janelle! I’ve tried root clipping before, but not this way. Defs going to give your method a go next wash day! Thanks! @_fabes_
The reviews on the scalp massager are a little scary. Last thing mine needs is anything scratching it.
jenallday yes it can be hit or miss because it is a completely plastic product. Bed bath and beyond often carries the Therawell scalp massager which I haven’t heard of having those issues the issue is just if they carry them! It’s a fairly new product to the market so not super easy to find.
Is your hair pretty thin'ish?
Wowza!!
Cabello bello!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are stunning.
❤️
@jaydenfleischhauer
Step one have lots of hair
One of my favourites...in fact it's In my favourites 😉 @squirrellycurls
@mrslmbrth
Devacurl is overpriced; ripping off people isn’t nice. Look for alternatives.
Lala, Amazon sells the same clips from various sellers for much less than the ones she used in the video. I agree that brand names aren't necessarily the best.
It seems that it takes ages to take 5 clips out of your hair. Waste of time.
