My name is Dana and I make curly hair videos to help embrace your natural curly or wavy texture. Here you'll find curly / wavy hair routines, product reviews, first impressions, lifestyle content, and more! I hope you stick around :) - Навчання та стиль
For the people thinking "will this work...?"
IT DOES.
I was just so surprised that this little trick that actually makes such a huge difference is not that popular. I searched around 20 videos before this and I was not at all happy.
Anyways , Thanks Dana!
I’m so glad this works for you! Thanks for watching 🥰
Dana Gagliotti 🙏🏽😘😘
did it work the first time you did it already? or did it take a couple of times? xx
@@veerlebrethouwer3296 worked for me first time
@@veerlebrethouwer3296 it worked for me in the first go!
I’ve struggled with straighter roots and flat hair for awhile and recently did something similar: I rinse off my conditioner upside down and stay there and apply my product then flip my hair and sometimes rearrange a few pieces and dry. My roots are very curled and have volume finally! Love this video! Stay well! 🙏🏼❤️
106andie I’ll have to try that too! Thanks for watching 😊
106andie I do the same thing! It works well with my 2C waves.
Do you air dry or diffuse?
do u apply product in the shower or after
What do you do to prevent it at night ? My roots get straight at night when I put it in a pineapple even though its quite loose 😕
You have great curly hair. Mine is a mess of curls & a lot of frizz.
dianne mcneely haha sameeee
same tho
Same. Starting my curly transition and i can form nice curls but I also have a lot of fuzz and I think most of it is breakage from not looking after it enough for months on end.
Hi, I know it’s been 4 months since you wrote this comment, but it should be said that just because hair is frizzy or “messy” or inconsistent doesn’t mean it’s not as great as a head of frizz-free curls! I’m sure your curls are lovely and with some tlc, any desired goal is possible. I hope your journey has gone well.💜
@@aromarose4133 I like my hair straighter better than curly or frizz. It's whatever you like & I dislike frizz. When I was a child, my daddy told me, "Dianne, you hair is frizzy." That did it !!!!
I actually started doing something similar that I also discovered by accident and it works super well! I apply curl cream in the shower, comb/brush it back like you did and then gently shake my head till the curls start forming. Then I go in with mousse. When I tried this I was thinking I'd be getting a more beachy, elongated look but it turns out super defined!
Do u scrunch the mousse in?
@@sherilynschneider yup. First, I very gently sort of spread the mousse through my hair without breaking up the curls and then I scrunch
Same, though I did mousse first, brushed it back, then used gel. It actually works!
Nice
OMG I never make comments but I had to come back after I tried it to say THIS WORKED SO WELL!!!! Thank you soooo much!! I love your videos so much, they are sooo helpful for my hair! much love!
Using this quarantine time to try to transition to curly and get my big hair back 😂. I have now literally watched about 20 of your videos and your tips are always so helpful!
Dude same 😂
Ahh samee i have heat damaged curls so my hair always looks straight but they’re starting to come back and I’m happyyy
how did it go? do you have any products/tips?
@@anoukn5065 Its going well thanks for asking!! I actually did a review of products from BounceCurl on my channel! Love a few Garnier Fructis and Shea Moisture products but still experimenting. One tip that is helping with split ends is actually barely brushing or combing hair (even in shower with conditioner) at first. My hair was just too unhealthy and tangly so I just stopped until it got more manageable from taking care of my hair overall. It's getting better now so i'm finally starting to detangle in the shower without accidentally ripping out all my hair lol
@@nicm8502 how do you get it more curly and defined at the roots? bc this is a problem for me
Wowie! I tried this routine, using products I already had, and experienced the best hair day ever! And the best second day hair I've ever had. I will do again and again. No more triangle head for me! I have wavy hair but now I've got wavy hair at my roots....no more flat looking hair. This is so easy to do, I'll never go back! Thank you Dana.....
wow I'm going to try this. I have become so self conscious and ashamed of my root straightness. hopefully this is a solution
Did it work? I have the same problem
I’ve noticed so many people in the curly community brush their hair forward for volume but I get the best volume and definition brushed back as well!!
Same!!
Nice
You have SAVED my roots! I’ve never loved my hair more! Thank you so so so much
I tried this tip and it WORKED!
She starts at 1:14
This video was a revelation for me! Did more scrunching and did not plop. I let my hair air-dry while I did my make-up and got dressed then gently diffused. Best results ever!! Fingers crossed that I can repeat this success... 😉
Nice thanks
Easy and to the point. I was sceptical but doing this actually worked. I have fine 2a/2b hair that weighs down easily so I can't use too much product at the roots to help with curl/volume. After trying this I still don't have MUCH curl at the roots (I think that's just my hair and I can't do much about it) but it's definitely a bit wavier and there's so much more volume. I love that it doesn't involve clipping or diffusing techniques. Thanks a lot!
I loved the shorter hair but I also love that you’re hairs grown out so much, you looked amazing with both but the long curly hair is just so pretty💕
I needed this. I had very curly hair but once I got pregnant my hair texture changed. My hair got long and roots became straight 😭 thank you!
Same! Did it change back after you gave birth? (Or are you still pregnant?) :)
Oh gosh, I hope my hair doesn't do that when we have kids...my waves and curls hide my fat face lol, but foreal.
This did help me a lot getting a less flat near the roots, more wavy and definitely help me get more volume! Thank you, love
Girl your hair is gorgeous! I personally think that I look prettier with flat roots but I really want to try this technique too! 😍
I highly recommend that if you or any one else in the comments below are struggling to get their roots curled, to retrain your hair with the finger coiling method! It helps a ton, and make sure to clarify your hair once every couple of weeks to help with volume too! :)
I was just thinking that this + finger coiling could probably do wonders on my hair!
I wish! Finger curling does noooothing for my curls. If anything it makes them go limp after even though it ringlets while wet.
@@tuesdaynyx Same! I tried it once and my hair just had texture, I had no curls left. It was a waste of time on my part. xD
For people who didn't have success with finger coiling: you can train your hair this way but it takes time! It may not come out great the first day or the first week. I was able to train my curls to all go in the same direction with consistent finger coiling and it's much easier to style my hair now! It took 2 months to really get there, but my hair stays that way now, even on wash days that I don't have time to finger coil it.
@@squrgle thank you for the encouragement! I’ve been wondering about trying it again and whether it might be worth it. I tried it this morning since I was doing an olaplex treatment and my hair was trying it’s darndest to ringlet from the roots. How often did you curl train? Once a week? Every day?
First let me say you have such beautiful hair. I am short and curly, well shoulder-ish length. I am a 2B/C curl. I have always flipped my hair over and put my product in, however I tried it with my hair was literally dripping water and scrunched the hell out of it. I always let it air dry but I think I was trying to scrunch the crunch out way to early. So I am waiting for it to completely dry now and omg the difference! Not only starting dripping wet but scrunching more and 100% air dry. I love it. Ty so much for your tips!
Yes! Finally my answer to flat roots and weird parts! I tried this today and it worked amazingly well. Lots of volume even without diffusing and no odd crazy part down the back of my head.
Finally !!!!!!! This worked perfectly !!! I struggled with flat roots and it was so disturbing, i tried this and finally perfect hair :))
Here's my first time commenting on a UA-cam video, but I had to because this amazing sorcery actually works! I don't know why and how, but after trying it my curls are much more defined at the roots.
She did a really good job on your hair. Love the cut!
This is just the video I needed today! Love your channel!
I love how simple and practical your tips are, looking forward to trying this on my fine curly hair, thank you!
This works great!! It even gives me a little volume at the roots too!
I tried your method and it worked! Normally after I apply the stylers, I brush style using the Behairful brush. I got great definition, but unfortunately my hair would not curl at my roots. Now doing your method, I apply my leave-in cream in the shower on very wet hair, I brush style it back and then I apply the mouse and or gel your way. I got amazing results. Thank you 🙏
I just tried this today and my hair is not fully dry yet but I already see a difference! Thank you so much😍😍
This works! Thank you, my mum used to brush my hair like that to dry when I was young. Agh the wisdom. No more helmet head for me now lol. Upside down styling just left a voluminous mess. This is more a mermaid/beachy look.
I will definitely try your way tomorrow!!!! I’m so excited already
Gaaaaawgous!😍💖✨ I’ll give this a try the next time I wash my hair!💖💖💖 Thanks girl!💖💖💖
this perfect, tysm !! i have super curly, thick hair, and it used to b really curly up top but i haven’t been taking care of it and it’s gotten dry + flat, hopefully this will help ty again !!
Yay! I've been waiting for this.
Maxine Thomas ☺️❤️
This works so well for my hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My roots were so flat but now curl all the way :)Thank you!
ok, so after reading all the comments, i have to try this this weekend, i'm crossing my fingers but i get the feeling this should work, ty for sharing!
Did it work?
If you’re wondering if this works, IT REALLY DOES I have 2c curls but after doing this they looked so much tighter! I’ve never had so much volume 😍
This worked for me as well. Thanks for the video! I'm super grateful.
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH THANK YOU
FINALLY SOMETHING WORKED
😭😭😍😍
so simple! I will be trying this in a week when I wash again :D Thanks for the video. Love these types of videos. Short and informative :-D
This actually works! Go for it guys!
Awww that looks SO Easy! Thx hun!!! ❤️❤️❤️😍😍💕💕💕
your hair is beautiful!!!
Just washed my hair this was needed, thank you!
Your skin is amazing! Whats your thoughts on the ordinary? Thank you!
Thank you for the tip, Dana. This worked for me as well, I get my waves closer to the roots and more volume too. :-)
Your hair is the gorgeous version of mine! I have those loose spiral curls with random waves or straight parts. And of course straight roots lol. Brushing my hair sounds scary but I’ll try!!! I just bought a denman brush. Fingies crossed
How do you keep your curls fluffy all day? Even when I fluff mine after about 20 minutes they'll clump back together.
use a denman brush to separate the curls when they’re wet
I think it works because the hair won't stick to your head anymore like it would if you would style it only in the 'upside down' way. You change the direction which sort of loosens it from the scalp, I guess?
This is exactly why
just tried this and it worked:) however I did diffuse my hair for the added volume but next time I’ll see how it turns out without diffusing
Aw you have such pretty curls!
I was just done washing my hair and WHAT THE HELL, IT ACTUALLY WORKS!!!!! I got more volume and more definition. I was doubting this because it didn't make sense to me how brushing your hair back will give you volume, but it did!!! Thank you so much for this, it was SO SIMPLE, I didn't even need to use clips or flip my head upside down while diffusing, because those never work for me 😭😭
Thanks for the tips! What shampoo and conditioner did you use for this wash? It looks great!
Love this!
omg defo need to try!!
Ur so pretty
Like your really really pretty and your hair just compliments it all
Thanks for the great tips. You just inspired me to cut bangs!
Did you get bangs ?
I'm going to try it today!
My hair is short and the hack does work!! You should try this out!! Thank you so much
This really helped, thank you!
Is this similar to the denman brush? I don't have either but my hair is slightly looser/wavier than yours. Do you have a recommendation on if you think one is better? 🥰
This worked for me!! Thanks :)
I have triangle head 😭❤️😂
Trying this tomorrow!
I would love to have seen what it looks like when you got up in the morning, esp if damp when you went to bed. Your hair is beautiful.
Be Happy check out my overnight curly hair routine!
Thank you for this!🥰
I think the brushing back is distributing the gel on all sides of the hair and then the hair gathers together to form curls.
YES it worked!!
omg I need to try this
I liked ur video its short and also u have said all what is important.💕
I need to try this 😱
Great tips!!!
Thanks for the tip 💜
Thank you for your video! :) I have a question: I'm using linseed Gel in my wet hair, then I scrunch it, then I let it air dry and scrunch it again in the end so the hair gets soft again. When should I do the brushing? Before I put in linseed Gel or afterwards? And do you think I can also use the regular tangle teaser?
I have veryyy stubborn flat roots where its straight at the roots but the rest is curly i will try this and update see if it works.
how do you keep your hair so healthy??? it looks so shiny and strong but still light and with no breakage/splitends whatsoever
im excited to try this. i just got the perfect haircut, my bottom part of hair is soooooo cute and curly, just flat at the top
Did it work?
Thanks queen
Oooo I'll have to try this! My hair always looks SO WEIRD when I brush it forward. The part gets all weird and my curls don't clump right. Idk if its because I have really fine hair and not much of it lol
Did it work
Omg it totally works-
You look soo italian! I live in Italy and you really do
Do you have any tips on how to deal with hair shrinkage? 😊
This works if your hair is not already curly. If I do all that scrunching my hair will be a mess and not in a good way. Scrunching excessively are for those with straight root hair and loose hair. Really curly hair will behave much different.
Not sure why you’re talking about my hair is curly lol
@@DanaGagliottii apologize ! I realize I didn’t specify what I meant. Your hair has straight roots and loose curls, therefore it can take all the scrunching without causing frizz and tangles. Your hair is beautiful. There are many types of curly hair and many don’t benefit of the same techniques. Thank you❤
Dang my hair is so incredibly tangled I could NEVER go from the roots with a brush like that - jealous
I have the same problem-extreme tangling.
Brushing my hair directly from the root would be a death sentence lmao
@@entr3_nou5 jup haha would be left with five hairs on my head 🤣
I struggle with real bad tangles too but I recently got the Wet Brush Pro and lemme tell ya fam it just glides through, I was so shocked. Definitely worth the buy imo, maybe you should try it too?
Does combing out with condition not work for y’all?
Similarly I sometimes brush my hair out upside-down, then flip it over to dry- same result! It’s getting all the hairs to arch up at the roots and then coil out downward.
Arch back
Hi Dana ur hairs are beautiful, i have low porosity 2c Curls so can i use these products will they work for me. Please suggest
if you do this long enough does your hair naturally start curling at the root? and also my hair curls into a side part when i do this, can i break it into a middle or would that mess up the curls?
I put oil on my hair while it's damp so when it gets dry(I don't blow dry it, just letting it dry itself), it won't feel too greasy or something. It also makes my wavy hair stay for the rest of the day.
Your hair looks like in a fairy tale movie! I will try what you did, thank you!
Have you tried finger coiling? That definitely makes it more curly at the root...
I can never find people that have similar hair to mine u kinda do so I will try ur method out
Hope it works for you!
My hair is straight at the roots!!! I feel like it's heat damage because I always used to hate curly roots when I wore my hair naturally... But right around my fringe they're kinda coming back! Hopefully this helps some xx
We have the same issue!! I used to straighten the top of my hair, and now I can't get it to even wave without putting product directly on it...so I'll have to try this
Get that mousse in there girl!! 👍🏻
Love the video! Would this work with just any brush or does it specifically have to be a tangle teaser type brush?
Vidya Gopal any brush should work! Just make sure the bristles are on the tighter side 😊
@@DanaGagliotti thank you!
Can you review the Kristin Ess curl line??? 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I have watched tons of videos of women applying styling products and almost all of them, and myself included, don't get very much product all the way to the roots. When I focus on getting product to my roots and then also scrunch the roots, I have much better curls.
Wow, thanks for this video, it really does work. Now I just have to find a good organic anti frizz! God Bless!
Starts at 1:19
i have a question. The top half of my hair curls really well but the bottom half doesn't. Do you think its just my curl pattern or am i doing something wrong?
It might be that the bottom half of your hair is damaged and the top half is newer, healthier growth
I NEED THIS
Let me know how it works for you! 😊
Dana Gagliotti definitely :) although my hair is transitioning so I might have to try it a few times since it’s never the same 🤣
Do you rake your hair of your scalp after you brush it and before you flip your head upside down?
