Fun fact: At 1:19 in the list of "cheaters" banned by the Anti-Cheat team there is at least one non-cheating player. That player is the guy in last place - fidus. He got banned circa a month ago for WH and as proof there is a SINGLE clip that could be summarised as: The map is KOTH Viaduct. There are 4 people in the clip, our "cheater" (pyro), his medic and heavy and the accuser (enemy spy). Spy is on top of the sniper cliff with the remaining three bellow it. They have no idea spy is there. Pyro is looking slightly up checking the ridge of the cliff, he sees nothing so he turns around to spycheck. There is noone behind him so he turns back to see the accuser disguised as a teammate jumping from the cliff towards our pyro (not to the health pack, rather directly at pyro's head while turning mid air). As anyone would do he presses M1, then he panic airblasts the spy into his own medic. The medic gets stabbed and spy runs away. End of the clip. One more note, the clip itself was recorded while inspecting the replay and we can hear audio of poeple inspecting it, we havetwo guys there the accuser and the Anti-Cheat team member. And I ALMOST feel sorry for the poor guy, cause the accuser is screaming into his ear that this is "ONE HUNDRED % PROOF THAT PYRO HAS WH! THERE IS NO WAY HE KNEW I WAS THERE! HOW DID HE KNOW IT WAS ME! HE HAS WALLS!" (you know the classic lines). As I said I almost felt bad for the admin. But like c'mon you're supposed to be good at spotting cheaters. First there was nothing wrong with the clip and second a single clip like this is nowhere near enough evidence to ban someone. Anyways thanks for reading all of this. I'm not trying to say that all banned people are innocent, just that banned does not mean 100% guilty. After all the ETF2L admins are just normal people like us. And everyone makes mistakes.

Wow, this takes me back. I used to be a bug hunter on TF2 near to the game's launch because I had experience modding source engine games from CS:S. I found a lot of these issues and pointed them out to Valve hoping they would update either the game *or* their engine, under the assumption that they would still make competitive games in Source, and god forbid they be inherited into Source 2. Instead, I equipped a bunch of cheaters with easily executed and unbannable cheats. :( Excellent deep dive though! Great video. :)

Kind of related, but I honestly have developed such huge trust issues with gaming now when it comes to cheating. Over the past 5 years, a solid 30-40 % of my friends ended up cheating in some way in games whether its through clients, ghosting, etc. I don’t understand it at all and I hate it.
Sounds like you jsut have bad taste in friends. I think I’ve had one “friend” ever cheat and he wasn’t even a friend, jsut a guy we traded with who turned out to be cheating when we tried to get him in the group.
i'm gonna be honest, I think Phlog cancelling should count as tech rather than cheating. I know it's not a popular sentiment since everyone kinda hates the phlog but in a competitive environment I think it's a cool edge to a weapon that'd only really come out in hyper aggressive situations.
Yeah most of these aren't really cheating, just a creative use of game mechanics. (Obviously the shit like editing game files is cheating. I just mean like the upward resupply through walls thing.)
@@spectacledman I’d tend to call this an exploit, though kinda agree that it should be allowed because the Pyro must A: Deal 300 fire damage B: Get into a position above an enemy player or use the Thermal Thruster to get onto a part of map geometry (if there’s any on the map) If the Pyro uses the Thruster then they must deal 300 damage without a damaging secondary and if they use a flare gun then they must get above the enemy with positioning or a Det jump, both of which will likely just result in death. Lets be honest if a Pyro pull off a successful cancel the enemy team probably wasn’t paying attention and will get punished accordingly.
I remember over half a decade ago I had some of those exploit mods as a kid. One that removed the scope model from the sniper along with the black area when scoped in and another that replaced the spy decloak with the "surprise buttsecks" meme. Hell my entire game was almost unrecognizable because of the many skin mods I had from gamebanana. It didn't seem like much at the time, but that extra information was actually so OP. The spy decloak in particular because out of nowhere you'd just hear that stupid meme in the background alerting you of where the spy was.
Solid ass video, especially since I’m not a TF2 player, but I find the overall game and community very interesting. Also wanted to compliment the closed captions- it’s ABUNDANTLY clear you put in a lot of effort, the highlighted words and different colors and the opacity being toggled between certain shots, so no important info is blocked. I think you’re one of, if not the only, UA-camr I’ve seen fully utilize the captions like this. Small details but very impressive and respectable.
I think whenever the player count spikes up, it's generally a good thing because that gives a lesser chance that a new player sees bots, and quits the game right then and there.
10:14 honestly though, this is just geometry. What if you crouch peek an angle? This one seems really easy to do accidentally. Good to see RGL is smart enough to realize this.
when people are corner sniping it's very clearly intentional and it forces the other sniper to peek with a charge. sniper is garbage and should be banned anyways because highlander overemphasizes the class way too much. btw rgl allows rampant cheating anyway. extremely blatant aimbots and the sort that go unpunished, but if you say a bad meanie word then you're done.
@@korhol2065 Lol. Let's be real, Sniper being banned would be perfectly appreciated. Remember, he can kill anyone, at any range, at any time, anywhere on the map, in one shot
I didn't really get why skilled players would take up cheating, just to see what it was like, whatever. But now that i see how easy it is to do some of these to gain a slight edge i get it. Just isn't worth having that label above your head if you get caught.
The answer is obvious, I will personally answer for myself 1:20 (ilmel), I got tired of the game and started resorting to third-party software, outside of official matches I just played and enjoyed the process, no more than I got a lock - a kind of vacation for several years to clear my head of junk and burnout.
Wonderful video! Really love the editing, pacing, visuals, etc on this one. Although I'd like to say that the majority of community fixes don't get added because they either: -don't actually have any code, it's just a suggestion/concept -the code is not their own -the code is not well written -the code may cause regression bugs AKA, bugs caused by fixing another bug, which is rather common for TF2
Just wanted to comment for "engagement" and to thank you for the work you did on the subtitles. I am not hard of hearing, but some people put fun stuff in there and you most certainly did.
For the sniper part, You can still hit the head hitbox but it becomes extremely thin. Basicly if they are able to still hit you, you can still hit them, its just a much harder shot.
Amazes me to see Comp TF2 still going over 15 years since it began, it isn't as strong a scene but there were legendary moments and great memories, this video also reflects how hard it is to be a moderator, specifically a Senior one / Anti-cheat one, some accuse them of being fairly strict but I do think it is necessary for the integrity of the game.
literally the most braindead video to have been released in years, but can u be surprised. ppl in csgo promote gambling to children bc it gets them traffic. no surprise tf2 mfs will trade the ability to play the game for clicks on their video
As a fellow neighbour of yours beeing a cs player I really enjoyed to watch this video! Man people are so nerdy figuring all this stuff out I love it! :) Of cause not cheats or all the exploits but when something creative is beeing found.

The whole bot thing has been weird for me. I ran into them now during Scream Fortress, but they are insanely obvious about it and are... well, stupid. The bots don't even vote to save each other, just take up spots for a few seconds before getting kicked. Its super weird.
Thank you for exposing the reverse quantum crouch solarlight, now everyone who tries it will find out that it only works very rarely and they'll just be feeding the engies all the kills 😂
Oh boy. While I do understand that exposure is how some of this stuff gets fixed (in theory), I can't say I'm excited to know this video will teach a lot more players how to install that Spy cloak sound exploit. It's already an incredibly hard to detect mod in the comp scene unless the player is being very obvious about it. Again, exposure is hopefully what will lead to it being fixed, I'm just dreading it being more commonplace.
thank god my country is too poor to run bots lmao only a few locally hosted bots join but they're gone the next day, most bots here in brazil are from other countries when we did have a large scale bot invasion last smissmass everybody went to play on uncletopia edit 12 of august: yep history repeats itself, bot evasion, uncletopia is full in 2 weeks i can play casual again note: it may have been last halloween instead of smissmass but i dont remember 10:00 pretty sure etf2l also made the decision to ban that sniper lol, poor wizat
l love how most of the lightning round exploits are completely exclusive to Upward. It still baffles me that such a buggy map has been allowed in comp for this long.
Wonder if anyone got banned because of them getting launched up into the ceiling by someone on the enemy team and hitting the resupply through the ceiling?
For community fixes to be added at a decent rate, I would assume a robust suite of automated tests to be necessary to catch the inevitable wave of regression bugs. It is safe to assume tf2 doesn't have a comprehensive suite of tests like that. To build one would be a gargantuan task. TF2's reliance on name strings will not make it any easier as code compiles regardless of misspellings. In 2007, games weren't built to accomodate routine content updates. On the bright side, Spy getting screwed is funny.

Yes, sir. The Michael Bay Mod is still my favorite. ;)
Whoever did the subtitles, you did a phenominal job! i hope your work gets more appreciation.
solar does them himself actually!
the subtitles are great
i'm gonna be honest, I think Phlog cancelling should count as tech rather than cheating.
@@EzekiesAcheronMechanics implies its intentional. Abusing a bug is accurate.
@@FletcherGoothis is not a bug; the game is behaving exactly as it is supposed to in this circumstance.

I’d tend to call this an exploit, though kinda agree that it should be allowed because the Pyro must
A: Deal 300 fire damage
B: Get into a position above an enemy player or use the Thermal Thruster to get onto a part of map geometry (if there’s any on the map)
If the Pyro uses the Thruster then they must deal 300 damage without a damaging secondary and if they use a flare gun then they must get above the enemy with positioning or a Det jump, both of which will likely just result in death. Lets be honest if a Pyro pull off a successful cancel the enemy team probably wasn’t paying attention and will get punished accordingly.

3:41 this is beyond spaghetti, this is fettuccini.
Casually playing the game
"Surprise buttsecks!"
Turns around and kills spy because of a shitpost
Solid ass video, especially since I’m not a TF2 player, but I find the overall game and community very interesting.
Also wanted to compliment the closed captions- it’s ABUNDANTLY clear you put in a lot of effort, the highlighted words and different colors and the opacity being toggled between certain shots, so no important info is blocked.
I think you’re one of, if not the only, UA-camr I’ve seen fully utilize the captions like this. Small details but very impressive and respectable.
I think whenever the player count spikes up, it's generally a good thing because that gives a lesser chance that a new player sees bots, and quits the game right then and there.
how wrong you were lmao

10:14 honestly though, this is just geometry.
What if you crouch peek an angle? This one seems really easy to do accidentally.
Good to see RGL is smart enough to realize this.
when people are corner sniping it's very clearly intentional and it forces the other sniper to peek with a charge. sniper is garbage and should be banned anyways because highlander overemphasizes the class way too much. btw rgl allows rampant cheating anyway. extremely blatant aimbots and the sort that go unpunished, but if you say a bad meanie word then you're done.
you dont just accidentally set yourself up into a spot that hides your head.
@@autocorrect5456if they banned sniper that would put many pros off of comp, and that wouldn’t be good for anyone
@@korhol2065 Lol. Let's be real, Sniper being banned would be perfectly appreciated. Remember, he can kill anyone, at any range, at any time, anywhere on the map, in one shot
Now I can set the spy decloak sound to the Fallout 3 version of the Mysterious Stranger appearing sound.
11:04 you made the mod get taken down, why solar why
Is there any archive or any alternative way to install it? Asking for a friend
I didn't really get why skilled players would take up cheating, just to see what it was like, whatever. But now that i see how easy it is to do some of these to gain a slight edge i get it. Just isn't worth having that label above your head if you get caught.
They get frustrated at not being able to pull something off despite being already skilled, so they shortcut.
They also do it because they feel pressured by team members / viewers to perform well
It really isnt easy to cheat in leagues, skilled players can see it easily. Bans get served liberally.
The answer is obvious, I will personally answer for myself 1:20 (ilmel), I got tired of the game and started resorting to third-party software, outside of official matches I just played and enjoyed the process, no more than I got a lock - a kind of vacation for several years to clear my head of junk and burnout.
the retry thing got banned because people started using it to just go back to spawn when too many people would chase you behind in pugs 🔥
It spread to scrims after as well
thank you demoknight guy for niche cheating scenarios tutorial
Even as someone who's pretty much never played this game in my life this video was super interesting, keep it up dude!
play the game more :)
@@iminumst7827 I should definitely
Wonderful video! Really love the editing, pacing, visuals, etc on this one.
Although I'd like to say that the majority of community fixes don't get added because they either:
-don't actually have any code, it's just a suggestion/concept
-the code is not their own
-the code is not well written
-the code may cause regression bugs AKA, bugs caused by fixing another bug, which is rather common for TF2

For the sniper part, You can still hit the head hitbox but it becomes extremely thin. Basicly if they are able to still hit you, you can still hit them, its just a much harder shot.

As a 2,000 hour Spy main, I can confirm that it do be like this
great video! happy to answer your questions 😀
13:11 best part😂
i like how he changes the color of subtitles and moves them around
Thanks for showing everyone how to do these exploits.... i'm sure people wont start doing them in casual now...
literally the most braindead video to have been released in years, but can u be surprised. ppl in csgo promote gambling to children bc it gets them traffic. no surprise tf2 mfs will trade the ability to play the game for clicks on their video

Cheating in tf2 has always been a strange case to me
The whole bot thing has been weird for me. I ran into them now during Scream Fortress, but they are insanely obvious about it and are... well, stupid. The bots don't even vote to save each other, just take up spots for a few seconds before getting kicked. Its super weird.

Wow, i have Closed Captions on and you put a lot of effort into those.
Valve is entirely to blame. They had ample time to fix it.

l love how most of the lightning round exploits are completely exclusive to Upward.
It still baffles me that such a buggy map has been allowed in comp for this long.
If you ignore the bugs it's a contender for best designed map in the gane
