the bit where you talked about the half-zatoichi and the team having medics that don't know what they're doing reminded me about one time when i was playing hybrid knight and i was burning in front of my medic, and he CONTINUED TO HEAL OUR TEAM'S HEAVY
28:07 legitimately my favorite loadout for demo, crazy how despite honorbound making it seem like it would be bad for hybrid, the healing is so good that it not only counteracts it, but does to a degree that it is one of the best swords for hybrid.
In response to the early point specifically. I think people say that the booties "cancel out" the penalty because they're looking at these items in isolation, rather than explicitly compared to other swords. The main point missing is the fact that yes, you can in fact cancel it out with the booties, but you can also just use other swords and both 'counteract' the drawback AND get more overall hp.
The eyelander is reference to the 1980's movie Highlander, which I haven't seen but I'm pretty sure there's kilts etc so there's Scottish ties. The main point of the movie is to cut off other highlanders' heads which I'm pretty sure they do with swords and gain their power (called the quickening). That's as much as a summary as I can give after skimming the first page of the wiki page (also the quote "there can only be one aye" is a reference to this film). Can't say more than that as I do want to watch it one day and I'm trying not to spoil it.
Thank you! You are the only one who've I seen say this. Highlander is one of my favorite movies and I think it's so cool that tf2 has a sword that's abilities mimic the powers of the immortals in the movie. Please watch Highlander, it's so good! But just a warning; it has terrible sequels that people consider noncannon. Wouldn't recommend watching those.
Another part about the Katana oneshot I like is that winning a duel is almost a guaranteed Banner charge for Solider. On the other hand that also means caution against banner Soliders (rare as it is to come by that kinda combo) is adviced bcause not only will you die and give him HP if you loose that duel but your team will additionally have to deal with a banner.
23:51 Shounic made a video on it: bodies of your teammates eat the projectiles (which is good, as one guy will act as a shield ad the rest would hide behind him to shoot), but for some reason also block melee damage (an oversight)
Solar: The Half-Zatoichi is the best demoknight sword Me, who plays a lot of Degroot Keep and is very aware of how much of a monster it is in Medieval Mode: yeah that tracks
One thing that differentiates the Eyelander and Uber is that you can (albeit slowly) fill up uber in spawn. The glowing eye sword forces you to kill for it to be valuable which can be problematic if leaving spawn is a problem.
Plus medic’s role is to stay alive as long as he can and heal people. He isn’t a combat class Demo-knight on the other hand is meant to be fighting and taking risks. To mitigate risk and protect your heads, you have to actively be playing a less aggressive version of a class defined by killing things dead. Staying back and waiting for a chance to get as many kills as you can just makes you a worse version of the spy
@@beywheelzhater8930 Not a worse version of the spy, a tradeoff of durability & burst movement (& consistent movement after you get the heads) vs spy's stealth & initial higher consistent speed.

As an explaination, Zatoichi is a fictional blind Samurai. It is the Half-Zatoichi because Demo is missing an eye. If you want to reach, you could say that half of Soldiers vision is blocked by his helmet, making the weapon name technically accurate for him as well.
The best Eyelander strategy is to collect 4 heads, then switch boots and shield to explosives at spawn. You get Demoman with 210 hp and 125% movement speed.
As somebody who plays ULTRAKILL, the comparison between DOOM's healing and the katana also relate to ultrakill, where you NEED to play in a fast-paced, agressive way, to truly go wild and enjoy it without the worries of dying in 5 seconds.
Love that medic in the sunshine clip, dude fully expected to die but played the interaction anyways, and was suprised to live, love those moments in games that people are well versed in, you fully expect to get punished for a mistake but no one does pucish and you end up both astounded and pleasantly suprised that you've been granted another chance lol
I once was defending a payload as full demoknight with a half zatoichi and survived for about 10 seconds while glued to the payload since i kept replenishing my health with all the enemies coming at it. It was long enough that some other people on the server started commenting on it in chat, with one guy going "ONE MAN AGAINST THE WORLD". We lost anyway but I've never felt cooler in a game of tf2
funny thing about having 4 heads on the eyelander, you can walk through a pyros airblast sometimes and be able to hit them before they can do another one
I'm shocked you didn't do a "Vergil Moment" for that misdirect, because you just judgement cut me with how you caught me off guard with that mystery chapter!
There is another rather effective method in dueling, or any fight in general, that I never see anyone use. Just crouch randomly in the fight or when you think they might attack. I learned demoknight playing vs saxton hale, so trying to NOT get hit was quite important. It's such a useful thing I have to wonder why I have never fought someone else who does it. Smaller hitbox = good
There is a case where using the Zatoichi on Soldier can be useful against a demoknight. If they charge at you, you can predict when they get to you so that your melee registers first. One time on Gold Rush, this demo with the HZ kept rushing me and I countered by simply waiting for him to charge at me.
That medic that ubered you during the "long mystery section" was such a chad. Perhaps I should start shouting words of encouragement into the mic when playing as medic.
In my village, there is a huge lack of wood There's a hole, in this big neighbourhood All our homes, we have to build them back up But now they're made of dirt

At first I thought it was kinda funny when you went on a little pun streak with the rarity names of weapons, but once you continued I was like “oh he’s descending into the pungeon”, honestly I think it’s STRANGE how GENUINE you were with putting work into that joke.
The problem with the eyelander is that it is „lame“. It doesn’t encourage crazy trimps or clever ambushes line other swords. For the one dying to it, it’s feels unfair how quickly demo can close the distance. And for the user, every single engagement is a commitment that could cost you yours heads. Nobody wins from this (except pubstompers).
As someone who has been exclusively using the half-zatoichi for the past month to get better at demoknight, the 2nd half of this video was very nice :)
I may play Demo scarcely, but watching this as a Soldier main who likes using the Zato helped give myself new ideas on how to use it more efficiently! Now it's all about execution and figuring out how the hell to use it in a loadout with the Beggar's and the Bison :)
There’s one specific quote that I love that explains the eyelander. “A Jack of All Trades a master of none. But oftentimes better than a master of one.” Yes that is in fact the full quote.
I met SolarLight in the wild using the half-zatoichi and the amount of damage he tanked from my terrible teammates feeding him health was ridiculous. It was even worse than a good spy with the kunai + dr.
I remember someone complaining about playing against Demoknight, and it was pretty much for the reason you mentioned. The Eyelander encourages you to stay alive as long as possible to not lose your 5 Heads boost, and gives you the HP and speed to get away with it. Combine that with Demoknight being very good at taking people by surprise with a 195 crit, and you've got a loadout that feels like the enemy demoknight will either be one-shotting you with a shield bash + melee crit, or running away at the speed of a Scout if you see them at a distance. Which you can't really blame a Demoknight for. Unless you're insanely good at Demoknight and plan on flying towards an enemy, you usually don't want to walk directly towards a Soldier at a distance who knows you're coming. But you also can't really blame the person complaining, because it does feel pretty bad to fight against someone who's either running away or killing you because you're distracted or otherwise in a vulnerable position. With the other swords, you'd be more encouraged to go in for risky plays and give the opponent the occasional "I got them," but the Eyelander's focus on survival means they might see you run away 5 times before you make a mistake and die.
i'll tell you the reason i love the eyelander. It let's free to play player have a streak counter, and player who don't have the streak counter pay item to have a streak.
This video is a good reminder that there are other options for Demoknight and are better than the Eyelander. (Though I still prefer it when playing Hybrid).
this video reminded me about years ago when swapping loadouts didnt reset your head count so you could run a demoknight loadout until you get heads, then go to spawn to swap to stickies, keeping eyelander WITH the heads. practically god mode
i literally watched the first half of the video when it first came out and it inspired me to use the eyelander for a few hours. i come back to finish it and have been undeniably duped. deceived. bamboozled even. and honestly I couldn't be happier. time to get some hours in the zatoichi. 1:19 missed opportunity to say: "Ok I'm GENUENLY done with this joke"
Dude that medic who pocketed you in the clip around 25:40 was awesome.
the bit where you talked about the half-zatoichi and the team having medics that don't know what they're doing reminded me about one time when i was playing hybrid knight and i was burning in front of my medic, and he CONTINUED TO HEAL OUR TEAM'S HEAVY
Meet the Medicslave

28:07 legitimately my favorite loadout for demo, crazy how despite honorbound making it seem like it would be bad for hybrid, the healing is so good that it not only counteracts it, but does to a degree that it is one of the best swords for hybrid.

In response to the early point specifically. I think people say that the booties "cancel out" the penalty because they're looking at these items in isolation, rather than explicitly compared to other swords.
The main point missing is the fact that yes, you can in fact cancel it out with the booties, but you can also just use other swords and both 'counteract' the drawback AND get more overall hp.
Great video Solarlight, well done.
I really enjoyed it.

Even better, there is a competitive game mode named after the movie
Bruh. U can't reference Highlander without having watched Highlander. That's the first rule of Highlander
I think this reference is very obvious for anyone born before 2000
@@ZeChADPK my boi in the video was either very sarcastic or he doesn't know.
Another part about the Katana oneshot I like is that winning a duel is almost a guaranteed Banner charge for Solider.
On the other hand that also means caution against banner Soliders (rare as it is to come by that kinda combo) is adviced bcause not only will you die and give him HP if you loose that duel but your team will additionally have to deal with a banner.
because katana deal like a lots of damage on another katana user so it filled any banner on soldier instantly

Shounic made a video on it: bodies of your teammates eat the projectiles (which is good, as one guy will act as a shield ad the rest would hide behind him to shoot), but for some reason also block melee damage (an oversight)

He isn’t a combat class
Demo-knight on the other hand is meant to be fighting and taking risks.

2:00 the idea of the snowball metaphor is that a snowball starts small but it becomes bigger and collects more snow the more you roll it 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
The best Eyelander strategy is to collect 4 heads, then switch boots and shield to explosives at spawn. You get Demoman with 210 hp and 125% movement speed.
It's funny because not even half way into the video, he says exactly this...
I was at the exact part where he mentions this when I saw your comment
Amazing. It's almost as if he talks about that in the video or something. 😮
@JackRabbittm Why did you repeat what I said? He knows this also, he admitted it.
Do you read comments before commenting?
I got my Australium Eyelander on my 5th tour. I named it The Butter Knife and have slain several snipers who didn’t know Demoman can fly.
I love how this video is marginally funnier than your previous ones; you crammed so much more jokes and word play in it
Wow!
Its so cool to see my video at the end there!
Thats awesome!
Thanks so much for showing it Solar!
funny thing about having 4 heads on the eyelander, you can walk through a pyros airblast sometimes and be able to hit them before they can do another one
25:13 Downside aside, the medic goating Solar on to keep killing. It really puts the *Team* in Team Fortress 2

Smaller hitbox = good
Solar light:When you look at demoknight what do you see?
Me: A alcoholic given a sword and speed boost.
There is a case where using the Zatoichi on Soldier can be useful against a demoknight. If they charge at you, you can predict when they get to you so that your melee registers first. One time on Gold Rush, this demo with the HZ kept rushing me and I countered by simply waiting for him to charge at me.
also winning a duel instantly charges banners
@@artifactUQuite handy for getting those ready
That medic that ubered you during the "long mystery section" was such a chad. Perhaps I should start shouting words of encouragement into the mic when playing as medic.

I think the "unusual/haunted/collector's eyelander" bit was an extremely underrated gag.
Watching this for a second time and realizing all the foreshadowing and careful wording is actually insane. There are absolutely no holes in continuity, he never outright lied, only having led you to think a certain way without saying it directly
Ok, the different item qualities joke was absolutely amazing. I am also happy to see your editing skills grow with each new video! Your videos are so captivating! Keep it up, king 👑
Finally, a guide from *_THE_* Demoknight TF2
Why hello
The professional Demopan casually running into 3 sentries, killing them all before obliterating the rest of my team:
At first I thought it was kinda funny when you went on a little pun streak with the rarity names of weapons, but once you continued I was like “oh he’s descending into the pungeon”, honestly I think it’s STRANGE how GENUINE you were with putting work into that joke.
I fucking LOVE whenever people out so much effort even on the subtitles.
When you see demoknight. What do you see?
*”Cruise Missile.”*
11:32 haha, the pyro ragdoll is funny

I met SolarLight in the wild using the half-zatoichi and the amount of damage he tanked from my terrible teammates feeding him health was ridiculous. It was even worse than a good spy with the kunai + dr.
at least with a good spy, you can potentially run away. but you can't run from demoknight tf2, he's faster
@@TheGhostThatWas It wasn't a problem about running away. The problem was killing the perma-overhealed demoknight.
I can imagine a dark souls boss that 5 people can fight and it just heals half of its hp at once upon killing a single teammate, would be hell
@@the_something_something “I am Malenia, Blade of Miquella”

I love how you went through the effort to make the captions yourself
