Great reaction, Jennifer! I think you would really enjoy some of Chris's live performances. One of my favorites is "When I'm Down" in 2010 at Troubadour. Same concert he sings "Ticket To Ride by the Beatles. Towards the end of the song, he creates some sort of scream that will blow you away. It is really something
You should do, Temple of the Dog, "Say Hello 2 Heaven" Live at Moore Theater 1990.
Chris at his finest.
Chris had a gift to genuinely connect and make every note personal to the listener - that’s the gift that made him one of the greatest ever. He magically drew you in with his sonic/melodic embrace. That’s why he was so special and is so dearly missed every day…
Check out the live piano version of “When I’m Down” (from the Troubadour) off his first solo album from 1999. A love song from someone who suffered from depression and other things.
Also the live version of “As Hope and Promises Fade” (Two Drink Minimum - Walmart version) very touching & powerful performance.
“Slaves & Bulldozers” from Soundgarden is a vocal showcase of younger Chris shattering eardrums.
Ah, Chris, may he rest in peace. You really need to check out his Soundgarden (or Audioslave) stuff. Fell on Black Days or their most famous track Black Hole Sun. Absolutely loving you dipping your toes in the heavier side of music. I know this song isn't, but Chris was an absolute legend in rock.
Stay With Me Baby was originally recorded by Lorraine Ellison in 1966. It has since been covered and reinterpreted countless times by a number of singers, but Chris Cornell's version is a cover of singer Terry Reid's rendition from 1969. (Reid, nicknamed "Superlungs" by his fans, was an English singer who isn't very well remembered today in the US, but he was partly responsible for the formation of Led Zeppelin.)
As I'm sure you can see in the video thumbnail, Cornell's cover of this song was recorded for the short-lived HBO drama series Vinyl, which centered around a New York record executive in the 1970s. The show was co-created by Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger and director Martin Scorcese, and its soundtrack featured a lot of songs from the time period, as well as newly recorded covers of songs from that time period.
"when im down" Chris Cornell - live at the troubadore - spell check lol
Oh Chris is my favorite! Subscribing! Can’t wait to check it your other stuff! Would love to see u do my fave live performance of his and an original…’when I’m down’ live at the Troubadour. So many goosebumps and amazing notes promised! 😊❤
In addition to his 2010 live performance at the Troubadour of “When I’m Down,” I am also deeply moved by his live AOL Sessions version of “Like a Stone.” Of course, you will also want to listen to his cover of “Billie Jean” (by Michael Jackson) and “Nothing Compares to You” (Prince). I also love his vocals on the Soundgarden songs, “Mailman” and “Blow Up the Outside World.” Also check out either the studio version or live at the Moore performance of “Say Hello to Heaven” by his side project “Temple of the Dog” and his solo songs “Seasons” and Sunshower. If you are interested in songs that show off his range, a few songs from the Badmotorfinger album demonstrate that, including “Slaves and Bulldozers” and “Jesus Christ Pose.”
Most people because of that breathy sound he has always say he lost his range he had in his early years. While he lost maybe a couple notes from the very top maybe it’s more his voice itself changed and his techniques he used to get there. I have no doubt that if he practiced and tried to sing the way he did when young he could have. Matter of fact every now and again he would do a line in a song and you’d swear it was 1989 again. Anyway he has some amazing songs with all his bands as well as his solo work and also covers that are killer like this. If you want to check out the first song he ever recorded with sound garden but did live in like 2013-2014 on “live on letterman”. Look for “incessant mace”. It bluesy and awesome
Wow. I'm loving this! It has such a bluesy vibe and you just FEEL it. I will be checking out more of Chris Cornell! Thank you for this one. Great job. ❤
So good!!😁 thanks!
Chris Cornell. My heart!
Hi Jen! Chris with his power, range, skill and timbre is just an all-time great vocalist. I'd recommend his stupendous version/reimagining of Billy Jean--he takes it in a different place than MJ did. Sort of what Disturbed did with the Sound of Silence.
Oh lovely, thank you 😁
Yes, definitely a big song, and definitely a great one, too. To me the chorus is just emotionally explosive. Chris’ upper register was always so incredibly strong. His high notes just reached the heavens. Very glad to see one of his tunes on here, and of course would love to see more. As for recommendations, there is a very old and early Soundgarden song called “Beyond The Wheel” which is said to cover 3 octaves vocally. It’s jaw-dropping. “Slaves And Bulldozers” is another earlier Soundgarden track where Chris is like a vocal beast, soaring with power. And “Jesus Christ Pose” actually peaks in the sixth octave. “Hunger Strike” by Temple Of The Dog and “Show Me How To Live” by Audioslave are more accessible songs where he shines. All in all, bringing Chris onto your channel is bringing more remarkable singing. Wishing you a good new year to come.
Thanks so much!
@@JenniferGlatzhoferThis live version of Beyond The Wheel, is pretty neat.. just sayin'.. ua-cam.com/video/viz5Y9ZQEFY/v-deo.html ...Also, that's the 14th song in a vocally demanding setlist during that performance, the man was a beast
Hi, Jen. Just want to really quick mention I might’ve been wrong about the Soundgarden song where Chris reaches the sixth octave. An older video claimed he hit a G6, but a newer analysis has it as a G#5. I just feel the need to not give reactors incorrect information.
I had never heard this song before and so glad I came across this video, Chris put emotion into every song he sang which makes it even more impressive as an artist. We'll be forever grateful for his music, R.I.P
Finally I get it with CC. I’ve always admired CC as a vocalist, but never engaged with many of his songs in Soundgarden / Audioslave.
Maybe even more emotion-packed than the original. I knew where the chorus should be going, and yet when he got there it was even better than I hoped. Stunning!
Wow loved your reaction Jen! I would say the next song of his should be his cover of "Nothing Compares to You" by Prince. Its an incredible acoustic cover, I think you would really enjoy it. Keep up the great work Jen! Oh, and, I downloaded your album on Spotify, I loved it! Its already on my playlist. Great Job!
Ah yay! Thank you😁
Jennifer loved your reaction. But I think you would be amaized with Bobby Hatfield contratenor voice. Please check his Stay with me, Ebb Tide, Summertime, Unchained Melody … That’s really breathtaking !!
Loved that reaction, Chris was definitely a force to be reckoned with vocally ! As you're opening the doors to new voices on your channel, may I suggest Myles Kennedy singing Watch Over You. He has such a unique sounding voice and I'm sure you'll love the experience
特别棒的分析,很喜欢这首Chris的stay with me,很开心你能听并且讲解
Listen to the recorded version of "Slaves and Bulldozers". Chris at his best when with "Soundgarden". Fan fav.
Beyond the wheel with sound gardenthe range is absolute phenomenal
More Chris please :)
It always moves and delights me whenever channels react to Chris and enjoy him and the great bands he was part of. The recognition of sincere emotion that isn't contrived or affected or fabricated for an audience has always stood out to me clearly. How effortlesslly close, intimate, personal and real it was (even though it is a choice, in a way) Like he could take over the room so easily with his vocals and presence but always left space for another. How there is so much outward reaching connection that comes so clearly from deeply within. It always amazed me.
I never would have imagined that the knowing of him no longer walking this earth would bring me such sadness. It seems like it's not my place, yet I was devastated at his death and I miss him often to this day. I selfishly hope for many more reactions tbh. I'm very glad you enjoy his work so far~!
Nice reaction, he’s always been one of my favorite voices of any genre. This is my first time on your channel and I would love to get a real reaction to Slaves and Bulldozers. It always blows my mind. Much appreciated and keep up the amazing work
Chris Cornell was really one of a kind! His voice had so much freedom and feeling into it, sometimes I get stuck for days in one phrase/inflection of one of his songs...I don't know if you've heard a song by him called Seasons. If you didn't, there's a studio jam live version which I'd really recommend! Cheers!
You need to react to Soundgarden Beyond The Wheel, he belts a lot of the song super high notes it's incredible vocals, do the live version, hear what he sounded like at like 20 years old.
Hello Jen I really love your channel ever since watching you do reaction to Angelina Jordan, and I also very much love the work you do! :)
Can you do a reaction to Soundgarden "Birth Ritual"? I think it truly shows what Chris did with his god given voice.
Happy New Year! What power in that voice. Thanks to Ian for his suggestions. They're spot on.
The day they released this track, I was at lunch listening to it, and there was a fire truck next to me at the traffic light. I nearly asked them to hose me and my car off because this track was 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Also, let's not forget, Chris was 50 when he recorded this.
For a song/performance that demonstrates his full range, I recommend
"Soundgarden: Beyond the Wheel - song 8 of 8 (April 16, 1990 at Philipshalle. Düsseldorf, Germany)"
Hi Jennifer hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤️
Great artist and arrangement for an analysis! Agreed, bluesy vibe is a good style description! Thanks Ian! Nice recommendation! Thanks Jen for another great analysis! Happy New Year!!
Thank you!😁
More reactions of Chris Cornell music please, either with Audioslave, Soundgarden or his solo music
imagine his voice was at 75% during the recording, if you listen "call me a dog" in 2011 you can hear him at his prime
His cover of Billie Jean is haunting and epic.
Jennifer! Trying to stay caught up. 😁 Hmm, I haven't heard Chris Cornell before. New to me. As we get into it a bit it's giving me ... hmm ... maybe a little bit of Bruce Springsteen vibes? I could hear Chris belting out Born in the USA. Similar bit of rasp in the voice. But yeah, I could certainly see listening to a bit more of his stuff. Good that you're not hung over ... you kept it to that one cheeky gin and tonic apparently. 😅 Great reaction and analysis as always Jennifer! 😊
Definitely hear the resemblance😁 aha yes, just the one! Thank you!
Agreed. Bruce Springsteen resemblance!
Hi Jennifer! Happy new year! Really enjoyed this reaction, I would love to see more Chris Cornell (solo / Soundgarden / Audioslave / Temple of the Dog) on your channel :) for me Chris' greatest skill was making you feel something no matter what genre or style he went into. If you like the highs here I hope you'll give some of his earlier stuff a look, especially back then he got to unreal levels. Of course he still had crazy range as he got older, but it's cool to see how his voice changed and developed.
Some live performance suggestions:

ua-cam.com/video/qpLQv5xL9Dc/v-deo.html Like A Stone (acoustic live, sessions @ AOL)

If you liked Higher Truth then you might really enjoy these too!
Thank you😊
Jen try his song Black Rain. There are live performances on chatshows. He hits an insane note, towards the end. Higher than this. Dunno, certainly several tones above.
Hi Jennifer!!! I don't know if you do songs that aren't in english, but here goes! The Mayfly Unit cover of Love Poem by IU on the tv show "Kingdom" contains some of the greatest harmonies that I have ever heard, even as a long-time fan of home free and voiceplay. Please feel free to check them out :)))))!
Will you please do a review of Tommy Johansson? He is such a fantastic talent! Fantom of the opera, Alone by Heart, Power of Love by Celine Dion, Sounds of Silence. He even did a jazzed up version of Blonde's Call Me! If you haven't heard of him before.... you're welcome!
I just subscribed. You fell into the algorithm out of nowhere, into the blue. Great reaction. Never heard this before. Off subject, Matteo Bocelli? Hype or no? THX from USA ❤️
Thank you 😊
Try to react to Filipino singers “AOS Queendom Rita Birthday Celebration.” Thank you so much
I dont see you having reacted to iron maiden.
You NEED to listen to "hollowed ve they name"
Album version is best, but to watch the live is insane.
Please react to: Type O Negative - Love you to death. Peter Steele had a great deep voice, not many like him.
His style reminds me of Chris Stapleton, not that he is a copy, just that it has the same feeling.
Love Chris, not a song that I am familiar with
