- We're back with this new HANSE 18, does it live up to the Hanse quality and make a suitable replacement for its older sister the Hanse 415?

Agreed. The walk through of the Dufour 470 really kicked off my search for similar size and type options for ny next boat After looking at that, The previous top of the list Sirius 40 DS has ended up slipping way down it. Every Boat has Compromises, which either work in favour or against what we personally need. As of now, the boat which heavily stacks compromises in my favour has come as a huge Surprise, it's a Bavaria C45. Serious Customisations to alter unwanted compromises I need, the Agent can get done the with no problem. Only two gripes left - the aft port side Galley isn't U shaped, and the Shoal Draft is 5ft 9", a few inches less would be great, then it would be worth getting the shorter ICW Mast. But both, I can live with and only cross the ICW off the list, I'll substitute a trip to the Great Lakes instead, which hadn't even been on the list. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. 👍

You would be right, there's not a great deal of price difference but enough to look at other brands, but you get what you pay for and I would take a Hanse over one or two of the others. Thank you for watching;=
a shame that that vent takes away more lockers in the owners stateroom - were there really no other options for that placement there?
You would have thought they would be able to put it under the bed?
Aquaholoc's review of this boat a year ago (I just watched it) had the engine options as Yanmar. no idea if traditional Shaft or Sail drive. Odd Hanse have gone quiet on who the maker is IMHO. Bob. 🤔
Yes, it is Yanmar for engine options and is fitted with a sail drive.
this is a very nice sailboat
A lot to like about this boat. I don't like the 90 degree sharp corners on furniture below. Base Price in the brochure is 215,900 euros plus taxes. I do not like the name of the engine Manufacturer being avoided. Options in the price lists gave some Chronic Price Overpricing, for example a Suit of Good Sails is well over Double what I have just been Quoted for a Challenge 9.11 in mast furling Battenless Main, with UV proof 3 row seam stitching, 3 reef points with all the reinforcing for full Offshore protection bell's and whistles a 125% Genoa genoa same cloth and offshore everything, plus a CZ 30 Polyester (no mylar film) Cruising Laminate Reaching Code Zero to fill in all the angle Gaps , for a Bavaria C45 (the main contender for my next boat). That's a point actually, if there's a Bavaria C45 at the show, could you take a look and give me your opinion please, as I value your judgement. ❤️ eta. The impressive Sail quote was from Ullman. Switching to Offshore Cruising Bluewater spec equivalents in Triradial Polyester non Laminate would probably be under half of Ullman's Quote of under 11,000 all in. Other Sailmakers are now doing Battenless Triradial Main Sails, and Performance Sails make quite a lot of them, and said Triradial build has almost the same performance as a fully battened Cross cut Dacron furling Main. Quantum and Elvestrom Also do triradial Battenless furling Mains. I enquired with Ullman Sails and turns out they do too. tbh, Ullman impressed me with the spec, though the Genoa would be fine with lighter cloth as I avoid stressing Sailcloth anyway. Bob. 👍
