That's what you call a review. Excellent. The good and the bad which is refreshing. H.
Thanks Hayden! I don't see the point in a review that just raves about the cool parts. It is not helpful! It is then just a commercial. Thanks for watching. Live walkthorugh/review and QnA of the Hanse 508 coming up on Friday morning.
One of the best review of a boart I've ever seen and I mean it. Full of details, real life / usage pros and cons. Great job.
Thanks Jack, I work on being as honest and objective as possible! Just wish I could get drone sailing footage like this for every review.
Thank's for this great review. We've just recently booked a Hanse 418 for a week this summer. I appreciate your attention to details and pointing out the design flaws.
Glad it was helpful!
I felt like this was a very honest and common sense reviewer.
Thank you
Thanks Nisten. Will always work on being honest.
Thanks Nisten. Will always work on being honest.
Just yesterday I asked for this review and now it’s here! Thank you! 😀
We’ve rented this exact model/year this summer from Novi Vinodolski. First trip to Croatia.
I appreciate your honest review of both the good and bad.
Haha, well how is this for a 'subscribe now' success story! Yeh I had had a few prompts to get it done. Your's was the last! Thanks for watching and have a great trip! See you on the water. If you can share the video that would be great!
One of the best boat reviews I’ve seen. An honest opinion with practical feedback. Thx for sharing! Would love to see a review of the Bavaria, Benneteau en Jeanneau models in this range…
Thanks Kris. Will keep pumping them out when I get a chance.
Thanks for this review!
No problem! Let me know which one I should do next ;)
V good review. Among the better ones. Balanced.
Thanks. Hope it was helpful.
Awesome review! Packed with great info.
Thanks Colin. Glad it was helpful 😌
What a great review!! all the real world thoughts made it really useful.
Thank you, glad it was helpful!
Excellent review ! Tx !
Thanks for watching!
I have the 2 cabin, 1 head, 40hp version and concur with your findings, although the 2 blade prop was the weakness, not the engine being underpowered.
Glad you mentioned the main heads seacock! I’d it was installed 180 degrees from how the factory fit them, it’s be a lot easier to operate! We had our dealer modify the bottom of the cabinet so the whole of this comes out. Much better access, but still need that seacock to be rotated to a more comfortable angle.
Glad we went for the single head! Much roomier up front, no creaking bed and no heads compartment to cause troubles.
Love our 418 - sails like a dream!
Great to hear. Love hearing the good stories. The wins from boat owners.
Thank you so much for your through review.
You’re welcome Max
Articulate review. Very useful. My dream boat ⛵️
Glad it was helpful! Very nice yacht. Could see a great racing season in her too.
great video bro, even though I will never afford one of these boats or journey in one, your videos are pleasure to watch lol. (maybe if I win lotto I could buy one)
Great video Nick. Appreciate your practical assessment. Eg the silly arrangement in the fwd head where water doesn't drain away. A head doesn't get a lot of through ventilation and even then in a marine environment it's mostly not dry air so long term it's a real problem. Regards Ian
Hey Ian, thanks for the comments. Yes sometimes I think the builders get away from the designers plans just to 'fit' things in. Shame
Love your Videos Nick! Thanks for your time to share your content. Can you tell me how strong the anchor chain of the pollux is? Is it more than 8mm? That would be great 👍🏻
Thanks mate. Pretty sure its 8mm, no more. Definitely not 10, too thick for that yachts windlass.
My 418 has 8mm chain
Thanks @@IIIIIIPETEIIIIII!
How will i emty grey water tank ..could find switch.and bow truster fuse....hanse 418 2022 model
On new model Hanse the grey water is usually pumped out automatically. The tank has a level sensor and pumps it directly into the sea when the valve is open. This sensor often needs cleaning, it is located on the underside of inspection port/tank lid.
Good review. I'd agree with the comments about under power, but solved on mine by the addition of a 3x blade folding prop which gives much more bite. Sails like a dream and incredibly well balanced. You have to try very hard to get this boat to misbehave
Interesting, the owner has since sold this one so I will have to suggest this to the new owner or charter company.
I too had problems with the 2 blade prop giving very little drive in rough, wind on the boat conditions and have just switched to a 3 blade - game changer!!
@@IIIIIIPETEIIIIII well thats two owners confirming that now! Thanks again. What spec prop did you put on?
@@45DegreesSailing a 17x14 3 blade Flexofold. The recommendation by them was 17x13 3 bladed or the 14 pitch for more bite and better fuel economy.
Great boat, good review Nick we are fans of the 418, but would like something bigger, maybe a 455 or 508;) How can someone get involved in the Hanse cup? Do you need crew😜hint hint.
Haha the hanse cup. I did not sail it this year! Been too busy unfortunately. And... there could be a 45D 'Racing Experience' in the pipeline for 2023 at the Hanse Cup 😉
I wonder how we decide who gets to come!
Nice review. Could you please film it, when you are sailing it and tell us more about the angles, speeds, waves, swell in different winds. How is it doing in 10kn, 20kn or 30kn? That would be great to know.
Thanks for the comments. When I have the time when sailing the yacht I endeavour to do this. It is a hard juggle sometimes to get all the footage and teach the client!
Here ya go if you want some video of a 418 sailing ua-cam.com/video/JxVU_XAezpg/v-deo.html
Great review. The water pump under the bed in the forward cabin is activated only upon water being used in the forward head or also elsewhere in the boat? Thanks
Anywhere in the boat. There is one water pump for the full system.
Thanks. Also on the one head version the water pump is under the forward cabin bed as far a s you a re aware? Could not ring an OM. Thanks.
@@ffcc7655 I dont know the answer to that, I have not been on the 1 head version.
Thanks for a good review Nick! Did you record the optimum upwind angle (true) and what was boat speed as well as true wind speed?
So they boast a 41ºT optimum wind angle and that it will hit 7 knots.
I can report that at 41º-43º true I was making 6.5 - 7.1 in 14-16knots of true wind. The yacht really moved. Was fun to sail
@@45DegreesSailing thanks for quick reply! Btw, we have booked a Hanse 455 in early October from Croatia Yachting. Departure is from Marina Kastela. Any recommendations of must visits very local and special locations (not very touristic if you know what I mean)? Actually all recommendations are more than welcome :)
@@alttiraali4774 I apologise for not getting back to you on this one! I always check my 'not responded' comments but it does not show up when I have already replied once. Very sorry. How was the trip? Would love to hear about your experience with the 455 from CY.
@@45DegreesSailing Trip was excellent! Perfect weather even though quite light winds but better that than storms. Stivina bay on the south side of Vis was absolute qem. Food was also excellent and the best place in my opinion was the Sismis at the island of Solta (bay of Sesula). What comes to Hanse 455 it was a Hanse and I mean it a positive way. I have been sailing several Hanse boats and I really like the easy sailing concept and the fact that boat does sail well enough for a family cruiser. We had rather light wind condition but still we were faster, and we were having better upwind angle than most of the other cruiser brands like Bavaria, Elan, Dufour and Jeanneau's. Maybe the others were not giving their best :) Boat was year model 2016. Inside the boat you could see too well it has been in charter use for six years. Clearly the boat had been under rough usage, and I would not blame Hanse built quality of that. If somebody is considering buying an ex-charter boat, I would consider several times and do inspection really well. What comes to Croatia Yachting the service is very good and everything works well. This was second time we were renting a boat from Croatia Yachting.
@@alttiraali4774 Great to hear! Yes Šolta is a special place. And there are just so many places to visit, it is impossible in a week. Glad you had a great time.
I love Hanses. But. Thanks for such an excellent review (as usual) … have Hanse got a new design team? We are currently on our old, very old, 1999, Bavaria 42 in the Greek Islands. Seems our bathroom shower & basin are superior to the 418. Can’t believe they haven’t sorted out water flow & wipe-down areas. Can’t believe they have the water pump under the master bed. Can’t believe the water tank configuration/noise when on the mattress …. Mental. Finally, my wife manages the anchor & chain … she often has to clear the build up/pyramid so it doesn’t jam …. we dream of an anchor that goes up & down without manual ‘clearing’ … I can’t believe Hanse have designed/produced a brand new 418 that doesn’t have proper automatic anchor chain/locker storage … how disappointing. What do you reckon is the best 40 ft/12 metre yacht on the market? … particularly for sailing short handed.
Thank you Roy. Hanse has changed up the design team just recently. Bringing some concepts over from other designs and influences. I will see if I like them and they prove good changes in the coming season!
With the anchor chain.. it is often the smaller yachts that do this as they are trying to maximise space all over. The 455, 458 and 460 do not have this issue with the anchor chain (also the larger models but I'm trying to keep it relevant).
I actually still think that in this size range the 418 is a contender. If you read some of the other comments from owners on this video, they have different configurations and modifications that solve many of the issues I found on this particular yacht.
Depending on your style of sailing, purpose for the yacht I like some of the Salona models around 40ft. Though my main experience I have to say is in larger yachts (50ft+) so I will keep an eye out for good models to review in this range.
I have to say having sailed a few of the 2012/2013 Sun Odyssey 45's and they really shined. Newer models not so much.
@@45DegreesSailing Thanks for your comprehensive response Nick. Most appreciated. You have the best sailing channel by a country mile. Will keep sharing your excellent tutorials with mates & fellow yachties who could benefit from them.
I always find hanse,s very stiff hull , slams in big seas, all equipment undersized , winches and so on . 630,505,531,461, and the moody 54 ds. All the same
Interesting. Yes with the modern design with this flat section fwd of the keel a lot of the yachts do not like going head to the seas. Prefer an angle and a soft hand on the helm. Disagree for the 505 though. This for me was one of the better performing hulls. As for new models 548, 588 gear seems adequate to me. Have not sailed the moody
@@45DegreesSailing Moody is the same hull , just different top sides .
Cant believe they haven't sorted out the anchor chain drop. I've had my ben 350 for 25 years and it's a nightmare. Why cant they sort this out on modern boats?😤
I think it's less "can't" and more "won't".
