It's obviously intended to be an anti spy weapon, so what about instead of just causing bleeding (or having bleeding at all), it adds a more visible visual effect that doesn't do damage and lasts a while to help track spies? What if the effect itself was (noticeable) blood spots or bloody footprints on the ground that follows the spies path? It could be countered, too, by going into water, foliage, or even blood and giblets left by other players which would increase the teamplay aspect and incentivize spies to take riskier actions when there's a lot of action going on. You could even use the blood effect to your _advantage_ as a spy to bait the engi into a trick stab or teammates, similar to baiting medics. The spy could even get an item (maybe a knife) that lets him sacrifice a little bit of health by cutting his hand or something and intentionally lay down blood trails for the previously mentioned reasons. Maybe, that would be too complicated.

In all your gameplay you upgrade your sentry with 20 metal left and still decide to ht it, when that metal can be used for restocking and repairing if it enters battle mode suddenly. Wouldn't it be detrimental in all cases to try to upgrade your sentry with 20 metal? Considering it takes 200 metal to upgrade and 8 hits to upgrade, you're wasting time and metal that can be used for slight advantages by bringing it up to 9 hits.
Good observation. When I use the Rescue Ranger, I tend to put all my metal into buildings right away since I can easily heal things without using metal. However, when I'm not using the Rescue Ranger, I do keep a reserve amount of metal handy just in case I need to heal something in an emergency.
As an active Engineer, you're also using a Rescue? When your sentry is destroyed, you can be more easily killed considering enemies will want to come close for the kill, including Scouts, Spies, and Soldiers, who are painful up close. What secondary do you often run if not the Wrangler? I would imagine it'd have to be the pistol or SC, right? I mean, the pistol is long range but also good up close, and the SC is anti-projectile and prevents not being able to hurt the scout whilst he jooks you AND can take down cloaked spies easily like a bleed effect that lasts as long as you have metal.
On hard-defense Engie, I usually use Rescue Ranger, Wrangler and Jag/EE/Stock. By "active" I mean that I move my Sentry gun around and generally don't stay in one place for very long. If I feel like my stuff is getting overrun, I certainly won't stick around and try and fight anyone unless I have to. I choose my movements carefully and will always move my buildings when I'm sure it's safe. If you watch the gameplay in this video, you'll notice many times where the enemy team gets aggressive and destroys my gun, but I'm always positioned in a way where I can just safely back up and rebuild without having to fight anyone. This strategy - which is mostly centered around the Rescue Ranger - is usually the most effective when you have teammates playing around you and supporting you so that you don't have to fight anyone directly when they push into your nest. For pretty much every clip in this video, I was lobbied up with at least 2 or 3 other friends who are communicating with me over voice, so that makes it much easier to know when and where to move around.
Maybe you can make a video on identifying when, where and how you stay back while owning lvl 2+ buildings? Maps like upward, for example, are often large enough that not being hunkered down for the ride can get you sniped. Doing what you do can give spies time to sap before you can get close, and by that point, they've made a hole in your defenses that something's gonna go down. You can't save it all, right? Although I know from experience that you keep your buildings separate to remove bombardiers and spies easily removing all your work, you gotta be in the center of it all so that you are easily able to help if anything goes sour, or hopefully just sweet for the time being. Being a turtle will get you killed, but I haven't kept count of how well that does compared to moving things around. not to mention that your metal is literally losing existence as when it's damaged and you move it, to repair and then begin hitting it as it's still setting back up.

That sounds like the tankiest wrench of all time. The upgrade downside is almost negligible because the engineer will always eventually upgrade his own gun, which is now even easier given that the damn thing will never go down because his fellow engies are all going to town on the gun with no limit or cooldown. All that does is promote a turtle playstyle that would be even less fun for everyone involved. Might as well give it “makes sentry gun invincible” for all the difference it makes. TL;DR It’s only okay if it has no random crits
Or, to go off of that, whack teammates to restore tiny ammounts of health and one-shots sappers on ally buildings. The downside is its slower than stock, and costs more metal to upgrade your own buildings.
@@shevrett2658 I like where you're going with the idea of how it provides bonuses to support buildings. More health on teleporters and dispensers. And maybe dispensers cost less metal to build?

I think it'd need another downside for that. now a wrench that makes you remove sappers in one hit AND does something to mark invis/cloaked spies BUT you loose level 3 or something could be cool
Not being able to use a level 3 that too harsh or have it destroyed if that what you mean i would say 10% explosive vulnerability while weapon is active
Personally it shouldnt have bleed then, change it to one hitting sappers in exchange for a damage vuln for bullets (because fire is useless and an explosive vuln would make this thing even shittier).
Yeah that a amazing idea because that would make it more of a spy counter weapon like it intended but needs a downside i would say 10% explosive vulnerability while active
The only situation in which this wrench is useful is medieval mode. Hear me out, if you decide to play engineer in medieval mode you will do fairly well with this
"To put more gold plated ice cream sundaes on his Cadillac" I was eating when I heard this and nearly choked to death from how stupid yet amazing that phrase is
You randomly popped up in my recommendations and I'm glad I clicked it. You have rejuvenated my love for TF2. I've been playing since Spy v Sniper update and have clocked in 2.7k hours into it. Thanks, man. I'm having a great time with TF2 again.
Ah, yes The weapon that allows spies to walk in your nest willingly and welcoming them to your stuff without dealing random crits so they could get out with a good meal of sapped buildings. *Hospitality*
I like to think about it this way: Imagine that engineer, spy, and pyro, were all concepts of rock-paper-scissors. engineer can easily take out pyro with a sentry, pyro is the bane of spies, and spy can easily dispose of an engie nest. This wrench, gives him a greater strength against his one weakness, while weakening his defence against pyro.
The only reason I sometimes use this weapon is because I think it looks cool. On servers with random crits off it's basically just a stock wrench reskin.
This is one of the best tf2 videos I’ve seen. From your points to your wording, even down to bg music and the one sponsor that actually works - it seems like you at your best here.
Since its has Hospitality in the name, imagine you can remove the sapper on one hit instead of 2. To balance it if it needs to, it can consume 10 metal (or 5) for every sapper you take off making engineers not try to make removing the sapper the top priority but make them kill the spy, waste 10 (or 5) metal to instant remove the sapper making a happy game play and learning experience.
I think this focuses too much on the spy counterplay. It should be focusing on the playstyle. But this is a good idea. It maybe have like damage vuln while being able to heal your buildings 1.5x more.
How I would change the SH: +Allow random criticals +Make it so it's able to remove sappers in 1 hit, like the Pyro's Homewrecker +Healing to buildings increased by 25/30% -Change fire vulnerability to all damage vulnerability -Increased knockback from explosions and airblast by ?% Since this once invented as a direct counter to his counter-class, the Spy, I felt it should be expanded upon so by allowing the weapon itself to possibly 1-shot the spy with a critical and remove sappers with great ease. The healing part was to keep the idea/lore of the wrench being "hospitable" in which it helps take greater care for his buildings. There's only 1 problem I can see with my design: It highly promotes "turtle-engineering", which is why I decided for those 2 downsides to the item
The hospitable part makes no sense. It’s called the southern hospitality because the south/southerners are NOT hospitable, which is why it causes bleed damage. I thought everyone knew this.
@@theguywithadifferentopinio9060 No not all of them, there some people like that in the South (also the rest of the world), but I think it's just a stereotype which is what it was going for, like a lot of the characters and items in the game are based on stereotypes
Southern Hospitality Idea: - On Hit: Enemies hit bleed for 5 seconds - On Hit: Spies cannot cloak for 2.5 seconds (or they can only be partially cloaked for 5 seconds like the Cloak and Dagger) - No Random Critical Hits - 30% more vulnerable to fire damage Idk, it might be OP, might be UP, just an idea. If we go with the first option of Spies cannot cloak, then the bleed would last for a full 5 seconds like pre-buff Spy and still be slightly better. If we go for the partial cloak, then the spy is much more easily trackable at the cost of the halved bleed from the Spy buff. It's essentially making the weapon better at what it does and slightly increasing the downside, basically giving it the Jag Treatment. Whatchu think?
Tseten Dolker Eh, idk. Most spies are either already cloaked or won't cloak for another couple seconds when they get hit with a wrench. Honestly it's already (almost) a straight upgrade in competitive with random crits disabled, so increasing the downsides and upsides would make it a more unique wrench. If you want, we could increase the downsides to Fire as well as Explosive vulnerability to make spy duels unaffected while putting on another downside, but that'd also discourage playing by your sentry, which the bleed effect promotes...
I like how you hit spies with a wrench : Bleed, you see spies when they are cloaked Then, you shoot a GRENADE (demo) and he doesnt bleed AT ALL and cloaks fully
Southern Hospitality Buff - Right click to throw the wrench like the Flying Guillotine. Reasonably quick recharge time, and if it connects, the wrench mini-crits (if the distance is sufficient, it will crit instead) and visibly stays stuck in the target (even if they're cloaked) until one of you dies or the target visits a resupply cabinet/switches class. The wrench can also be recovered by picking it up from the body of the guy you stuck it in, collecting a large ammo pack, or standing next to any allied dispenser for a few seconds. While the wrench is not in your hand, you cannot repair or upgrade buildings, and your melee attack is a punch (reusing the Gunslinger's animation) that deals 50% less damage.
It would be more interesting if it applied more to the spy situation. Let’s see... you could try a speed up when in use, get kinda like the pompano maybe take him out of cloak, or i think it would be nice to see a wrench that allows you to break saps in one hit, or heal the building while still breaking the sap. Of course, for a wrench like this we need a downside. If we are going to up our spy spiking skills we could add a weakness to a different area, I would think it would suit well seeing a weakness to a class that engine normally beats well in an attempt to make said class pay more attention to the engie and get a little creative, maybe threaten the engie in a new way.
Depends which Gibus you're talking about. The Ghostly Gibus is almost worth nothing. But a Ghastlierest Gibus is worth about 8 refine. Strange one is about 13 keys and Vintage one is about 470 keys.
Just an idea for the Southern Hospitality. Keep it the same, but add a pitcher of Ice Tea in the free hand, and allow the Engie to throw out a small health pack. Have it recharge somewhere between the sandwich and banana. Keeps with the name, gives a utility to deal with the pyros you are now more vulnerable to and allows for more situations to use it outside of spy checking.
Buff option 1: mini crits invisible spies on hit. Buff option 2: takes out sappers in 1 hit Buff option 3: +15% movement speed on wearer while hauling buildings
Back when i used to watch tf2 vids instead of playing it (like 2012-2013) i always thought the southern hospitality was gonna be my main wrench cause i loved the way it looked
The hospitality part of the name makes me think it could maybe get reworked to fit as a more support focused Engi. So maybe it heals teammates on hit at the cost of your own health or metal?
something less silly would be for it to change the dispenser in some way, perhaps simply giving a longer range would do the trick, perhaps it'd need a healing buff, or you could go crazy and make it give teammates who touch it a speedboost or something with the hospitality you can really do just about anything because of how plain it is
I don't use the jag very often, because I actually am fairly good at melee. I usually only play Degrootkeep now, so not much engi gameplay there. But lots of combat medic.
Nice video! Keep it up! Also I have an idea on how to rebalance the Southern Hospitality, take a look: On Hit: Bleed for 5 seconds +15% damage bonus against bleeding enemies 20% bullet damage vulnerabilty while active -10% slower firing speed No random critical hits
I think a good rework is when you hit the invis spy with the southern hospitality. your sentry(and friendly sentries) is going to see it as an enemy, making the spy detectable while bleeding. Even when hes disguised. That way engieneers can hit the spy first and if when the spy is retreating due to the bleeding, you can remove the sap and sentry will do the job. Also there should be a debuff on the spy where he goes slow everytime he bleeds kinda like what natasha does and when hes hit by the wrench. Also it does 1.5x more HEALING/REPAIR to the sentries and removes the sap with 1 hit. The trade off will be: slower speed while holstered. you can speed up the REBUILD process with the southern hospitality but much slower (So youre encouraged to play super defensively and not do much of aggressive placement of sentries.) And 10-25% dmg vulnerability while holstered. (Idk about the where the % should be but it should be enough to encourage the enemy to kill engie first before the sentry) The slower speed will make the engie vulnerable to snipers. Furthermore encouraging the engie to play on safer spots with no long sniper sightlines on your nest. I think this makes the weapon a great option for competitive engie. Not too overpowered because a normal push can take out the sentry but with good engie around it might stand a chance to hold the push a little longer. Buying a bit more time for your combo.
I disagree with encouraging a overly defensive playstyle. TBH, I think that they should make an effort to make engineer more aggressive. That's not to say that having defensive engineers is bad, it's just too common of a playstyle. Giving the engineer more offensive tools would encourage more players to leave their turtles and have more enjoyable experiences.
this entire concept feels way too... "polarized" as a weapon, like the upsides and downsides are both just way too impactful. i think if you want to encourage a different playstyle with a weapon it should be in the form of a completely different weapon type. like the soldier's gunboats or the demo's shields. *or the gunslinger.* they don't have to have massive downsides or upsides, because they're completely disconnected from stock. if you reeeeally wanted to make the engineer have a more defensive playstyle, you could give him different buildings in the same light as the gunslinger. personally, i think that's the opposite of a healthy direction for engineer to move in, though, as tanking the sentry gun is already too easy against some classes. i feel that, if engineer was overhauled to make his buildings faster to get up, with the wrangler also being reworked so the sentry isn't immortal, the engineer would probably be a lot healthier as a class.
Rework idea!! Southern Hospitality 25% or 20% more repair+ On hit: Bleeds enemy's+ Ability to instantly remove sappers+ 20% or 25% less firing speed- No random crits- 20% more fire damage-
A cooler southern hospitality, for me, would be 5 percent extra speed when in hand, 20 extra damage, 8 second bleed effect, no random crits, and reduces primary ammo by 4.
No because the bleed doesn’t stack and just resets in each hit plus at 125 health you would get destroyed by the heavy without even getting close to killing it with the wrench.
@@Mageh533 and even if you were able to hit it 3 times the heavy would probably just eat his sandvich or theres a medic nearby or a they use a health kit

Uncle Dane, how come you almost never play demo? I mean, demo is basically just like engie in a lot of ways, one would think you'd be pretty great at it. You have to think ahead, have good game sense, you can provide your team with pretty good area denial both offensively and defensively; I could go on here for ages. Yet, instead of demo, you almost always go for soldier as your power class of choice. What do we need to do to get you to play demo? Add a liberty launcher sticky bomber to the game? xD
Seth Mitchell he plays other classes just never on UA-cam because his youtube is about the engineer, but if you watch him stream he switches classes from time to time

A new year, and a new HUD! RaysHud seems to have finally been abandoned for regular updates, so I've switched over to BudHud - an awesome, simplistic HUD made by none other than Tip Of The Hats' own WhiskerBiscuit. You can download it here: huds.tf/forum/showthread.php?tid=207 And yes... I know, the RaysHud meme will now be left in the past with the rest of 2016 - but I really love the look of BudHud a lot, so I have no regrets. :)
If you like the customized settings that I use (centered metal and other minor relocations) it's as easy as changing the name of the folder called "Dane_" in the #Users folder to just "Dane". The crosshair is something you'll have to add in yourself via the associated .res file. Make sure you read the BudHud wiki for ANY help on installing, editing or using BudHud! github.com/rbjaxter/budhud/wiki
(Please note that I cannot and will not troubleshoot your HUD for you! Whisker has generously provided many easy-to-understand guides for every aspect of BudHud! Please utilize them instead of messaging me!)

Maybe "Repairing friendly engineer's buildings cost no metal. Can't upgrade friendly engineer's buildings"
It is an hospitality weapon after all
That sounds like the tankiest wrench of all time.
Maybe dispensers heal more and teleporters have shorter recharge time?

TheSteelmushroom yeah, I agree with that, make the vunerabilities only while equiped
Personally it shouldnt have bleed then, change it to one hitting sappers in exchange for a damage vuln for bullets (because fire is useless and an explosive vuln would make this thing even shittier).

*Hospitality*
Bravo
Thanks for the hud! This is the perfect hud I was looking for! Thanks uncle! :D
I like to think about it this way:
Imagine that engineer, spy, and pyro, were all concepts of rock-paper-scissors. engineer can easily take out pyro with a sentry, pyro is the bane of spies, and spy can easily dispose of an engie nest. This wrench, gives him a greater strength against his one weakness, while weakening his defence against pyro.
Some Guy you can also replace spy with demo
The only reason I sometimes use this weapon is because I think it looks cool. On servers with random crits off it's basically just a stock wrench reskin.
This is one of the best tf2 videos I’ve seen. From your points to your wording, even down to bg music and the one sponsor that actually works - it seems like you at your best here.

A skilled spy never gets close enough for me to wackem anyhow.

How I would change the SH:
+Allow random criticals
+Make it so it's able to remove sappers in 1 hit, like the Pyro's Homewrecker
+Healing to buildings increased by 25/30%
-Change fire vulnerability to all damage vulnerability
-Increased knockback from explosions and airblast by ?%
Since this once invented as a direct counter to his counter-class, the Spy, I felt it should be expanded upon so by allowing the weapon itself to possibly 1-shot the spy with a critical and remove sappers with great ease.
@@PassTheSnails Really?They're that mean
@@theguywithadifferentopinio9060 No not all of them, there some people like that in the South (also the rest of the world), but I think it's just a stereotype which is what it was going for, like a lot of the characters and items in the game are based on stereotypes
Southern Hospitality Idea:
- On Hit: Enemies hit bleed for 5 seconds
- On Hit: Spies cannot cloak for 2.5 seconds (or they can only be partially cloaked for 5 seconds like the Cloak and Dagger)
- No Random Critical Hits
- 30% more vulnerable to fire damage
Idk, it might be OP, might be UP, just an idea.
Whatchu think?
i like idea of not being able to cloack but it needs more downsides then, or it will be a direct upgrade from stock basically
MCFire worth the try
Order & Chaos That would be an interesting concept, but it'd also completely change what the wrench was intended for: tracking spies.
That would be an awesome idea actually.
I am glad that You change the channel information from "weekly tf2 videos" to "tf2 videos" ;D
I like how you hit spies with a wrench : Bleed, you see spies when they are cloaked
Then, you shoot a GRENADE (demo) and he doesnt bleed AT ALL and cloaks fully
because grenades dont do bleed damage...

While the wrench is not in your hand, you cannot repair or upgrade buildings, and your melee attack is a punch (reusing the Gunslinger's animation) that deals 50% less damage.
god damn it, i cant focus on the video cause you use that beatiful music, bloody memories

7:45 that aged terribly
Back when i used to watch tf2 vids instead of playing it (like 2012-2013) i always thought the southern hospitality was gonna be my main wrench cause i loved the way it looked
The hospitality part of the name makes me think it could maybe get reworked to fit as a more support focused Engi. So maybe it heals teammates on hit at the cost of your own health or metal?
something less silly would be for it to change the dispenser in some way, perhaps simply giving a longer range would do the trick, perhaps it'd need a healing buff, or you could go crazy and make it give teammates who touch it a speedboost or something
with the hospitality you can really do just about anything because of how plain it is
the main downside is just that you don't get some thing better
6:45 - let's point fingers at him and LAUGH!

"the engineer is not intended for melee combat" * makes a video about using the machete 7 months later *
Nice video! Keep it up! Also I have an idea on how to rebalance the Southern Hospitality, take a look:
On Hit: Bleed for 5 seconds
+15% damage bonus against bleeding enemies
20% bullet damage vulnerabilty while active
-10% slower firing speed
No random critical hits
What did you think about it, Dane?
That Troll Intro >:)
(Idk about the where the % should be but it should be enough to encourage the enemy to kill engie first before the sentry)
The slower speed will make the engie vulnerable to snipers. Furthermore encouraging the engie to play on safer spots with no long sniper sightlines on your nest.
I think this makes the weapon a great option for competitive engie. Not too overpowered because a normal push can take out the sentry but with good engie around it might stand a chance to hold the push a little longer. Buying a bit more time for your combo.
you really hate spies, don't you?
*or the gunslinger.* they don't have to have massive downsides or upsides, because they're completely disconnected from stock. if you reeeeally wanted to make the engineer have a more defensive playstyle, you could give him different buildings in the same light as the gunslinger. personally, i think that's the opposite of a healthy direction for engineer to move in, though, as tanking the sentry gun is already too easy against some classes. i feel that, if engineer was overhauled to make his buildings faster to get up, with the wrangler also being reworked so the sentry isn't immortal, the engineer would probably be a lot healthier as a class.
it's called the southern _hospitality._ it should be a support wrench
make it buff dispensers in some way

On hit: Bleeds enemy's+
Ability to instantly remove sappers+
20% or 25% less firing speed-

20% more fire damage-

So if the the southern hostpital dose 105 damage...
Then it can kill a heavy in 3 hits.
No because the bleed doesn’t stack and just resets in each hit plus at 125 health you would get destroyed by the heavy without even getting close to killing it with the wrench.

uncle dane and Mr. Paladin need to do a colab... It'd be so ironic xD
they did for the beginning of the spy video on dane's channel
and on Paladin's channel. He posted a few rounds playing with him. Also, Wave 666 for MvM had both Paladin and Dane.

me smacking an enemy spy in the face with my wrench which I renamed to "if this upgrades, why are you dead?": :)
Add a liberty launcher sticky bomber to the game? xD
because he's black.
Alessio Fantini Well that's just silly. He's a great, rather complex character.
Seth Mitchell he plays other classes just never on UA-cam because his youtube is about the engineer, but if you watch him stream he switches classes from time to time
Bit of a weird question
***** Yes, but demoman is the class he has the least playtime on.
When sponsor
You can even use bitcoin if your still into that.
Heh
That aged well.
Was just thinking that too
I think a cool rework concept for this wrench would be placing a tracer (the same glow effect as you see when you look at your teammates directly after spawning) in exchange for not doing damage.
