@@iplayminecraft2248 Contrary to popular belief, it's not, there's quite a few differences, the most noticeable being a slower firing speed and complete inability to be repaired. A list of all of the differences are documented on the TF2 Wiki page for the Sentry Gun if you're curious.

@@nutzeeber yeah, I haven't played much tf2 but I was wrong, it isn't just a mini sentry. The exact stats are:
Has a slower firing speed than a normal Mini-Sentry.
Cannot be repaired or have its ammo refilled.
Cannot be destroyed by the Engineer who made it - it can only be destroyed by an enemy robot or automatically destroyed when the wave ends or the Sentry runs out of ammo.
Cannot be wrangled, but still receives canteen buffs.
Is 66% the size of a normal sentry compared to the Combat Mini-Sentry's 75%.
Is not affected by the building health upgrade (always has 100 max health).
However, it is affected by the Sentry Firing Speed upgrade.
Hopefully they don't patch this one.

...so the classes in the game who by design CAN'T do that amount of damage in any reasonable amount of time without needing to first get close to them.
@@J4hk2 The only classes I can think that cant do 100 damage very fast is medic and maybe spy? Scout does some big damage up close and if he's not then he's got the pistol to chip it down before the gets in the mini's range. Mini's do best when catching you off guard, that's usually the problem, not the health.
@@codaboi138 Again it's the need to get close to do the damage. Because that means time spent taking damage from the thing before you can get in that close range. Scout/Pyro both have this problem., at best mitigated with pistol/shotgun but that assumes they even have them.
@@J4hk2 to be fair both scout and pyro are already at a disadvantage against any sentry. Heavies can take them out fairly easily though may be difficult in a large fight. Demos can 1 shot minis and soldiers 2 shot them. Or 1 shot if they take only 10 damage or are being built
@@Engieman909 That's the thing though. Regular sentries are somewhat designed to have a "downtime" to them, when one is destroyed there is a period where you can move in with the classes that would be otherwise disadvantaged with sentries being present. It gives them room to breathe, which is a much fairer game design. You don't get that with minis, they are too easily replaced. With regulars they get destroyed and then there is a period of time where there is either an absence of them or the opportunity to catch the attempt to replace them mid-build, both allow the less sentry-capable classes some means to be of use.
You also on that note get a sense of accomplishment when destroying regular sentries, they are harder to replace, especially if they were a higher level and if they were a lower level you can feel you helped stopped it before it got any stronger. None of that feeling of accomplishment is had with minis.

Using the extra mini, which means you get two mini sentries, is actualy a really good way of getting a fk ton of crits on the Frontier Justice, just like payload defence & Control Points.
Also another fact of the mini sentry: in a normal sentry, when they see a spy disguising, the normal one will shoot until the spy is fully disguised, while the mini sentry will keep shooting the spy, even if he has gone fully disguised.
I've actually had this save my ass once as there was this spy behind me that apparently NO one in my team noticed on the last point of Frontier and the mini started shooting behind me and finished them off before I was able to switch to my shotgun. Mini sentry a real one for that

Kinda weird seeing the evolution of Dane, from back when he was a more defensive Engineer back in the days of the Sigafoo Save to now being much more independent using the Shotgun Pistol and Gunslinger.

With the evolution of a class, follows the evolution of it's players. The Engineer used to be much more effective with just Leveled Sentries. Seems like the recent changes to the Engie in the past few years has been a focus on spreading out his viability - which I fully support.

I feel like the Gunslinger's triple punch crit is an amazing idea to replace random crits.
It makes it so that melee is useful, but also doesn't make your attacks too powerful given how you need to land your hits perfectly.
Tbh I still don’t think it’s a good replacement I think it should just go away but I this is better than what we have now

The gunslinger is actually good for two subclasses: The battle engineer, AND the support engineer. If you need temporary protection to get your dispenser fully upgraded, the mini sentry is affordable and does the job well enough to deter attackers.

I personally love the strat of placing a turret down at the spawn, picking 200 metal again, and just run with a built sentry to the front line, cuz the time it takes to re-eploy a mini-sentry is so fucking low that you basically can outshoot a scout. And with the remote controller it also becomes quite high-range since turret spread is constant.

@@glass_currency I think you are misunderstanding and maybe just don't have a grasp on the entire 'history' of STAR_ controversy. The thing STAR_ did as a joke was a long feud with collaborator and probable lover jerma985. It was revealed they are still on amicable terms.
The thing Dane (and this comment) refers to in the video is STAR_ quitting TF2 (which is fine, people get bored of games and change interests) and totally disrespecting the community (which is not fine and quite frankly is childish).
Hope that clears things up. As far as we know (or at least as far as I know), STAR_ was not joking.

I have a strange gunslinger and it was worth every penny. I've always loved weapons that force you to play differently and more risky, which is why I adore the gunslinger, the huntsman, and the loose cannon
My new favorite load out, never realized just how much of a threat they are to the enemy team, had half of the red team on 2fort just focused on trying to destroy my mini sentry placed inside between the front doors of our base lol, we won and I was in second place for our team as engineer believe it or not. Thanks for the great video

People hate the Gunslinger because:
1- It makes the life difficult to scouts.
2- People seem to be able to kill a heavy, but not to deal 100 damage against a stationary object that has only 48 DPS.
It's smaller than a heavy, so that may have something to do with the hate
It's easy to destroy an unguarded minisentry but not so much when you have to fight an engie with a shotgun at the same time.
its kind of hard to do 100 dmg to a sentry with a market gardener
Not so easy to take out a mini when (if you're like me and learned this trick from Dane himself!) you put the mini-sentry in a bush that's virtually 100% opaque so you can't even see what the hell you're being shot by, let alone having to deal with the Engi himself firing Frontier Justice Crits at you from when his Mini tagged a random scout earlier, often at the same time.
Also the main thing with it is that it has the SAME range as a normal sentry, which just adds to the annoyance factor.
9:20 this background music is so nostalgic for me because I first started playing team fortress 2 in October and this is the very first noise I heard when I booted up the game. It has remained in my mind ever since. ☺️

He lost interest in TF2 some time ago and moved on to Overwatch streaming, which caused a backlash from the community. He responds to any questions about TF2 with unprecedented (deserved/undeserved, cross out where appropriate) hostility, and as of December last year (when someone asked him about that on Twitter), some people STILL didn't move on or take a hint that he's gone for good.
4:22 Star_ was well known to dislike the minisentry as it was before its rework and, upon moving on from making tf2 videos, began to show a distaste toward the tf2 community because a ton of people kept bugging him about making more tf2 videos. There's a lot more to it than just that, but it's pretty much what Dane was referring to in a nutshell

Obvious pseudonym Swell guy, I watch him a lot but he has gotten flak in the TF2 community (particularly the competive group) due to the 'pug fiasco'. Long story short Muselk explained how to get into PUGs (about 3-4 years ago), the steam groups to join etc. This led to an outbreak of a lot of newbies and unprepared people flooded the Lobbies for a time.
That or some people just dislike Muselk, idk.
I don't like Muselk because I don't find him funny and (at least when he used to only play TF2) all his content was pretty much the same thing. I guess that's cool if you like that, but personally his personality really grated on me. Also his video titles.
***** I would say a mixture of the two. He has gotten gamer burn out over TF2, having played it for about 4-6 years. He also has grew in hatred for the TF2 community due to the constant pestering of 'when the next TF2 video'. That being said how Star_ handled his departure from TF2 was not... professional.
He left a single video stating he would be taking a 'break' from TF2 and would be trying around new games. Afterwards he never posted a video on how he was done with TF2. He kind of just did the whole 'if I simply ignore TF2 enough, no one would ask' but people asked and annoyed him to the point to where he called the TF2 community (on stream) a bunch of 'fucking idiots'. I feel both parties were at fault. The fans of Star_ shouldn't have tried forcing him to doing something he doesn't want to do and Star_ should have had better closure than just a maybe and a vanishing.

I don't know if you ever addressed this, but the Gunslinger in general is also very good to focus your attention on someone else's sentrygun entirely. In pubs, many people assume that they can take an Engineer because he can't heal his Sentrygun faster than they're dealing damage - Gunslinger Engineers can place their buildings down to distract from the Lv3 Sentry while using Rescue Ranger to safely heal the Lv3 Sentrygun alongside the other Engi.

I’ve got over nine thousand hours on the game and I can wholeheartedly understand why Ster up and dropped the game on the spot. Logic: Gunslinger + Widowmaker = a very offensive engineer who just keeps placing minis.
Gunslinger + Frontier Justice = Engie that likes cheeky mini spots, and has his friendly demo boost him to interesting spots to put his minis, which eventually get destroyed by a soldier, which enables revenge crits.

The Gunslinger is by far the most impactful unlock that you can have. No so much on a game's scale like a different medigun or soldier backpack, but more akin to the swords for Demoman.
The Gunslinger changes the Engineer's playstyle so drastically by flipping the strengths and weaknesses upside-down.
I dont even think that mini Sentries are "cheap" per say, it simply requires a different mindset to fight a Gunslinger Engineer that many people can't fathom.
When it comes to Engineer, I LOVE playing battle engineer, I always run Stock Shotty (or widowmaker sometimes), Stock pistol (Sometimes might just be, the wrangler),Gunslinger
