You can shoot any friendly building with it to "charge" it with a mini buff, sentry does mini crits for a short time, dispenser gets increased range, teleporter is faster.
My idea based on that would be: [+] Fires a special projectile which Boosts friendly buildings for 3 seconds. Boosted buildings are unaffected by subsequent shots and they cannot be Boosted for 10 seconds after the current Boost wears off. [+] Boost affects buildings as in follow: Sentry Gun: +20% firing speed; Dispenser: +50% range, healing rate, ammo and metal generation; Teleporter: +100% recharge rate; [+] No ammo required. [-] -33% clip size. [-] -20% damage penalty. [-] -20% fire rate.
My idea is to make it be able to destroy Sappers at a distance (like how the Rescue Ranger heals buildings at a distance). It would take 3 or 4 hits to destroy one Sapper (idk), and the shooting speed should be a bit faster (the same with the Bison lol).
@@TheDude8008 that’s a cool idea too, I think that’s way too many shots to do it though, even with increased bison speed I think it wouldn’t be able to even save the sentry in most scenarios. One of the funniest uses of this weapon is against Pyros. A lot of Pyros feel the need to reflect any projectile coming their way, so if they don't know the stats they just walk in front of it, sometimes even being stubborn enough that they die
If it was the OLD "Hey, I just died. But that's alright, since my punishment was not so bad for just simply owning one specific item that I never need to pull out, and now I still have an Uber advantage since your medic is also dead with 0% Uber left" vita-saw, then I guess the Pompson would be a niche way to counter ubers. However, the CURRENT vita-saw, where you actually have to do dangerous and unrewarding shit with it just gain the upside, is just so bad and useless. It'd be a surprise to see a medic even equip it. So the Pompson is un-needed And even if the vita-saw was reverted back to its original state, it wouldn't be used as much to justify using the Pompson 3000. The vita would stay banned in competitive for obvious reasons, and is useless in casual, since there are a lot of shitty new medics that can utilize uber properly anyways.
You never played Dota 2 custom games then. There is an ability which traps an enemy to 2 whole minutes of stun time called “detention”. They are immortal in that cage, and cannot do anything but wait, as the world passes by them
I'd love to see the penetration come back, and give the Pomson an "inverse falloff" where the damage of a projectile goes up every time it hits an enemy. Alternatively, have it mark enemies and highlight them through walls, like the respawn highlights. Let it play support more.
I left TF2 when the pomson was OP and cool. I even have a Strange pomson I named the BFG 9000 simply because it was so broken. now it's broken in another way. just take it back to the stats at launch already!
Its a year old, but i agree. I wish it could penetrate and have an "inverse falloff". It would be cool if they had the whole "removes sappers" thing, but it would make spy more underpowered than it already is. I think it would be cool making the anti-uber mechanic actually worth bringing along. Idk about highlighting, but marking enemies for mini-crits would be a W. Baiscally they should make it the engineer's version of the crusaders crossbow. Fast projectile speed, but only 1 shot in the clip.
Even the upside of 10% Uber and 20% cloak reduction is barely even useful as you could kill a medic and spy with a normal shotgun before the pompson can do anything remotely useful
@play gray Actually dead ringer will still work even after shot by an pompson, spy would just have reduced invis time, which is pretty useless considering kunai spies use dead ringer to tank damage
@play gray you say that as if its guaranteed to happen every time... The point is that just using a shotgun is more effecient and consistent, OVERALL. Plus that 10% removal means nothing cuz the medic can get it back in, like, 15 seconds, regardless of Ubersaw or not
I remember when the pomson was released, it was one of the most overpowered weapons in the game because it pierced through both your enemies AND your allies :)
When I was young, I would always run the pomson. I thought it looked cool and didn't notice the downsides. I got used to the slow projectile speed, I still managed to get quite a lot of kills on people with it, I genuinely kinda liked it. I would still play with it if I didn't immediately lose all that skill built up with it after using the Frontier Justice once.
Like maybe that and a knockback effect, like slightly less than a rocket blast would do so the spy would get blown back further, allowing more time for you to get the the building and slap the spy
@@bitchtitchs Why not apply a small knockback on yourself (Like Force-A-Nature)? You could use that to get some mobility and being able to get distance between you and spies/pyros when getting rushed. I thought something like overcharge and a lite Cow Mangler alt fire(aoe and burning for Pomson) but being able to also damage sappers would make it good. maybe make the normal attack penetrate with the alt fire being a aoe attack?

When I had just started playing tf2 as an f2p engie I thought this weapon was amazing when I read its description, I used the pomson for way too long. Once i realised it sucked I carried on using it because I thought it was cool that it shot lasers and it had a cool kill effect. I look back on those moments and wonder what people thought of a gibus engie running around 2 fort and turbine trying to shoot people with a direct downgrade of a weapon. I agree with basically every change that you suggested except for the charge shot. maybe right click could be a non-damaging projectile that removes sappers?
The only time I use this weapon is when I know I'm going to be doing some meme camping spot and need long range weaponry since I don't have the rescue ranger. It sucks.
Cow Mangler shots on the alt fire while the primary fire is without the drain, but has penetration and does damage vs sappers would make it better. Oh, and add the drain as a MVM upgrade.
what about making it remove sappers? Would be a unique utility tool and maybe even be an alternative for the rescue ranger for a really defensive engineer
I had an idea for three small tweaks 1) make the projectile punch through enemies, reducing damage per enemy 2) remove the fall off of the drain, and also make it occur before damage 3) make it deal bonus damage to Overhealed targets
I would really love to see the Pomson 6000 be a no ammo pool weapon where you charge shots like a sticky launcher. Uncharged shots travel fast and don't do too much damage. Charged shots can drain uber and cloak, deal more damage, and travel slower.
You forgot to mention two things -- when Flamethrowers were changed to fix the fire particles, the Pomson and Bison were changed too. As a result, both weapons lost their ability to ignite Huntsman arrows. Their projectile size was also broken by the change, making it far smaller which makes the slow projectile speed feel even worse. The smaller projectile size also makes the Bison hit players fewer times, which kinda defeats the point of the weapon.
Concept for reworked stats that actually have synergy with its set: Scrap the meter draining Make the projectile a little faster +Metal reserve increased to 280(this would let you build all 3 buildings with the eureka effect) +Metal recieved from ammo packs decreased by [some amount] (this downside would helped by teleporting to the supply cabinet) +Projectile penetrates players again, but can't hit someone more than once +Faster reload anim +projectile can remove sappers in one hit +tiny blast radius on projectile
So its definitely bad? Damn, you could literally pump up the firing speed to the same as the Stock Shotty and the gun automatically becomes useable. Also, I didn't know that you were actually Uncle Dane, pretty rad lol
Fun fact! The Pomson projectile spawns *below* the crosshair, causing the projectile to go waaay off target. You can aim pretty well above people's head and still clearly hit them in their face. This really should be fixed. also can we talk about the handling and firing noises it feels like a fucking toy
My idea on how to make it better: Give it Slightly sower firing speed, but you never need to reload. Have it do a bit more damage Make the projectile faster Make it able to go through enemies (and teammates)
How I would revise the pomson: +Does not require ammo +Projectile cannot be reflected +Damage done by Sentry fills "Nope" meter +On filling "Nope" meter allows for the firing of one "Nope Blast" linked to alt-fire. +"Nope blast": Rocket- like explosive projectile laser that deals 85-100 damage, 11 seconds of stun, to any play caught in blast. +On hit: "Nope blast" instantly depletes übercharge, even if active. -25% max health -deals only 20% damage to buildings
The Pomson's slow projectile speed is dysfunctional to the point where I honestly think it would be a better weapon if it only did 1 hit point of damage, but was hitscan so you could at least consistently drain cloak & Über with it.
i really think this weapon is bad in ALL situations, even beating the shit out of spies. if you have a decent shotgun aim you can already do more work than you would do with this thing. it just needs a total rework tbh
Remember when this weapon first came out and it had projectile penetration and no falloff on removing uber or cloak? It was the most overpowered shit ever to the point where people would feel bad for using it. How the mighty have fallen.
I was in a casual 2fort server when at the start of a round, I convinced 8 of my 11 teammates to run engineer with the Pomson 6000. We steamrolled the enemy team 3-0 and by the end of the round we had multiple lvl 3 sentries and teles IN THEIR INTEL. I will never forget that game.
Pomson being used for mid range rapid fire spam would be pretty rad, imagine a bunch of engies just firing a massive volley of Pomson lasers and it actually makes a decent dent into the enemy team. lol
The moment you compared the projectiles to rockets, I immediately thought about how cool the Pomson would be if its projectiles were just mini-rockets that didn't deal much damage. They can knock both you and enemies back, allowing you to rocket jump around. That would fun, right?
Hear me out... The Flying Texan Remove the sheild from the wrangler but give it 50% less self damage from sentry gun. Give that sheild buff to the bison when the wranglers equiped Fill up bar similar to MMMPH only for damage done and damage mitigation. Once charged the bison becomes a hitscan beam like the machina dealing 50 at distance and 90 point blank for like 8 seconds.
I remember when me and my friend just started playing tf2 and he got this weapon and thought it was the coolest thing ever, until we realised it was the shittest weapon ever
So watching this video tells me that "The Pompson should probably get a full rework by the tfteam" because most other weapons are better for him, including secondary and melee
"Oh boy with this shitty gun I can play a whole different playstyle where if I can flank a medic as a relatively slow class with little mobility, I can remove 10% uber!" Bro, if you want that so bad, play spy. His melee removes 100% of the uber on any medic you can successfully flank. And he can go invisible to make it easier. And he can disguise.
With all of the information present in this video, I think it's safe to say to assume that the Pomson is one of the most useless, unbalanced weapons in all of gaming!
Launch Pomson was most definitely a "spam" weapon that shined in chokepoints. It even had a "fun" bug where once it hit someone (whether it be enemy or ally), the projectile would disappear - but the hitbox for it would continue to penetrate onward like the Righteous Bison. So you'd have Medics and Spies getting dinged for cloak and Uber out of nowhere with no indication that they were in the line of fire of the Pomson.

@@aquamarinerose5405 the problem with that is, you can be the most brain dead player and get rewarded heavily for spamming a choke point possibly hitting a spy/med without even needing to aim, taking half there uber/clock for minimal thinking.
It's also just not fun to be at the receiving end building uber 30 sec or more just to get taken by a lazer going through your heavy hitting you taking it all away.
@@aquamarinerose5405 killing a medic takes more thought most of the time, because you have to go around the enemy team or kill to get to the med.
With the penetration you can just go through the walls of flesh and gain a huge reward.

As far as primary qualities go, if i wanted infinite Ammo i'd use the Widowmaker, because at least then i never have to reload.
You can shoot any friendly building with it to "charge" it with a mini buff, sentry does mini crits for a short time, dispenser gets increased range, teleporter is faster.
Actually that's a pretty good and original ideia, would be interesting to see this in-game
My idea based on that would be:
[+] Fires a special projectile which Boosts friendly buildings for 3 seconds. Boosted buildings are unaffected by subsequent shots and they cannot be Boosted for 10 seconds after the current Boost wears off.
[+] Boost affects buildings as in follow:
Sentry Gun: +20% firing speed;
Dispenser: +50% range, healing rate, ammo and metal generation;
Teleporter: +100% recharge rate;
[+] No ammo required.
@@Zmeeed01 maybe longer effect (10-15) with a longish recharge. Or maybe buff one building permanently with the downside of not bring able to shoot your gun or having the rest of the buildings weaker.
Just a thought: what if it leeched ammo from the enemy classes? When you shoot it would remove ammo from the enemy it hits and gives YOU metal. This would drain the effectiveness of pushes, like it was meant to, and makes it easier to maintain and upgrade buildings in heated areas.

So the Pompson is un-needed
And even if the vita-saw was reverted back to its original state, it wouldn't be used as much to justify using the Pompson 3000. The vita would stay banned in competitive for obvious reasons, and is useless in casual, since there are a lot of shitty new medics that can utilize uber properly anyways.

Pompson: removes a bit of cloak

@play gray Actually dead ringer will still work even after shot by an pompson, spy would just have reduced invis time, which is pretty useless considering kunai spies use dead ringer to tank damage
@play gray you say that as if its guaranteed to happen every time...
The point is that just using a shotgun is more effecient and consistent, OVERALL. Plus that 10% removal means nothing cuz the medic can get it back in, like, 15 seconds, regardless of Ubersaw or not

1) make the projectile punch through enemies, reducing damage per enemy
2) remove the fall off of the drain, and also make it occur before damage
3) make it deal bonus damage to Overhealed targets
I really want to learn that slow-mo uncle dane intro on the piano now.

Concept for reworked stats that actually have synergy with its set:
Scrap the meter draining
Make the projectile a little faster
+Metal reserve increased to 280(this would let you build all 3 buildings with the eureka effect)
+Metal recieved from ammo packs decreased by [some amount] (this downside would helped by teleporting to the supply cabinet)
+Projectile penetrates players again, but can't hit someone more than once
+Faster reload anim
+projectile can remove sappers in one hit
+tiny blast radius on projectile
So its definitely bad? Damn, you could literally pump up the firing speed to the same as the Stock Shotty and the gun automatically becomes useable.
Also, I didn't know that you were actually Uncle Dane, pretty rad lol
The Pomson was insanely powerful when it was introduced, but nerfed into obscurity about a year later.
Damn anyone remember when this weapon was actually good? I remember raging at it a lot around 2012.
It even shoots the projectile slightly UNDER your crosshair.
I will dedicate my life to getting a Hale's own pomson
Fun fact! The Pomson projectile spawns *below* the crosshair, causing the projectile to go waaay off target. You can aim pretty well above people's head and still clearly hit them in their face. This really should be fixed.
also can we talk about the handling and firing noises it feels like a fucking toy
My idea on how to make it better:
Give it Slightly sower firing speed, but you never need to reload.
Have it do a bit more damage
Make the projectile faster
Make it able to go through enemies (and teammates)
Double the projectile speed and remove the need to reload at all, and it might actually be a decent spam fire weapon.
How I would revise the pomson:
+Does not require ammo
+Projectile cannot be reflected
+Damage done by Sentry fills "Nope" meter
+On filling "Nope" meter allows for the firing of one "Nope Blast" linked to alt-fire.
+"Nope blast": Rocket- like explosive projectile laser that deals 85-100 damage, 11 seconds of stun, to any play caught in blast.
+On hit: "Nope blast" instantly depletes übercharge, even if active.
-25% max health
-deals only 20% damage to buildings

Pomson being used for mid range rapid fire spam would be pretty rad, imagine a bunch of engies just firing a massive volley of Pomson lasers and it actually makes a decent dent into the enemy team. lol
Why rely on a slow projectile to take away 10% of an uber when you can use a stronger hitscan weapon to take away 100% of uber? Lol
This was my first unlockable weapon in TF2, I was so damn excited and thought it was OP. Ha.. hah...
The moment you compared the projectiles to rockets, I immediately thought about how cool the Pomson would be if its projectiles were just mini-rockets that didn't deal much damage. They can knock both you and enemies back, allowing you to rocket jump around. That would fun, right?
Hear me out... The Flying Texan
Remove the sheild from the wrangler but give it 50% less self damage from sentry gun.
Give that sheild buff to the bison when the wranglers equiped
Fill up bar similar to MMMPH only for damage done and damage mitigation.
Once charged the bison becomes a hitscan beam like the machina dealing 50 at distance and 90 point blank for like 8 seconds.
but mr stick, if you keep the lower magazine size with the super shot, that just means you can fire it more often and it's more spammable!
How about making it work like a medigun or crossbow that can give ammo to teammates or even load ammo in their clips?
Or just bring back penetration and have it still do the drain at long range
It could be a decent area denial thing if it had a bigger projectile. Not sure how much bigger but at least it's an idea.
"Oh boy with this shitty gun I can play a whole different playstyle where if I can flank a medic as a relatively slow class with little mobility, I can remove 10% uber!"
