    Had the pace 2 since mid October and having pretty much the same experience as Dave suggested, it connects within a few seconds and audibly beeps at you to tell you its ready and tracking seems good including gps in wooded areas, all the watch features work pretty well. Loving the simplicity and accuracy so far. Its a great watch for every type of run.

    Hello Dave !!! great video editig and photograph..snowing already, looks really nice from here. Now, if I recall correctly, your initial GPS validation was on trail routes with heavy trees in between the ground and the sky. Coros pace 2 is not a trail watch but still I would like to see how it performs under the trees. Thanks again and cheers from Mexico.

      That’s correct but it was also quite bad on roads. This new watch is light years better than the previous one I had and I’d expect it to be just as good on trails. For example the first Pace 2 I had took almost 10 minutes just to get a lock on a clear day. This replacement achieves a lock in just a few seconds. If anything changes on trails I’ll be sure to update!

    Really appreciate all of your reviews- entertaining and informative. I need a new watch (my old Garmin is DEAD) - triathlete so I need multisport (train with HR on the run, power on the bike and GPS on the trails) trying to find the best “affordable” option... I don’t need it to answer phone calls, play music etc. I’m thinking this is the one- over the pricy Fenix 6. Thoughts. So happy to have found your channel.

    Hi Dave, excellent review. I had my pace 2 for about a week now and the only real issue I'm having with it is the wrist based heart rate monitor. I've used it now a few times, both for runs and for walks (using the GPS cardio workout), and compared to my Apple Watch series 5 it seems to spike every now and then and the heart rate will rocket to over 180bpm even when just going for a walk. Even when it doesn't spike I'm finding that the heart rate recorded is typically around 10bpm higher then the Apple Watch. I do however have a polar H10 strap and will pair it up with that now for heart rate monitoring. Otherwise I'm very impressed with the display, training tools and the battery life.

    @kevinwadden9192 3 роки тому +2

    Firstly, thanks for this review and your original more detailed one. Appreciate the update, but what is your verdict on the GPS wrt trail running? Per this video it tracked well on what looked like a road run, but does that extrapolate to a trail run through some thick woods? Also, why is a specific trail run profile selection needed on this watch? With barometric altimeter and good GPS, should that not equate to main parameters needed for a good trail run tracking without such a profile selection present on the watch?

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 роки тому +2

      It's great! The replacement device has been way more reliable and in-line with my other devices. Unfortunately its still missing trail specific features like navigation. Having a specific "trail run" app is helpful for some third party services to distinguish which activities were road runs. Also for V02 Max estimating. Not a huge deal but something to be aware of. I just find it silly that they couldn't add in a dedicated profile since it's essentially just a copy and paste in the code! Thanks for watching!

    I had the same problem with my Apple Watch last year. Everyone was saying how good the GPS is on the Apple Watch (besides the corner cutting, which is a software issue), but mine was just horrible and got worse over time. So I reached out to Apple, they swapped it and now it works flawlessly and I even have a couple of months of warranty on top.

    Love your work man. I run trails and roads (like 300 miles last year, so I am not an ultra guy, but love unknown terrain). Until now I tracked and navigated with my smartphone. Did not want to spend a lot for my first watch, so bought Pace 2. Now I have it unpacked and have second thoughts - am I missing a lot with the trail mode? I also hike and the watch does not have hike/walk mode. Is watch based navigation worth it over smartphone? I really hate that they cut the software to make people like me buy Apex. So now I consider returning my Pace 2 and buying Apex only for the trail and hike modes and navigation (don't care about materials).

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 роки тому +5

      Not having a Trail mode isn't a huge deal with the Pace 2. Just go into strava or whatever and mark it as a trail run manually after your run. Or just forget it all together because it doesn't make too much of a difference in the grand scheme. It only bothered me because typically using run vs trail run makes a difference in how the watch calculates recovery, and V02 Max but because Coros isn't very accurate here either (on any watch) I wouldn't worry too much about it.
      I personally REALLY like having watch based navigation as a trail runner because I know I'm on track at a glance without having to dig out my phone and stop my run. Also when you're navigating a pre-designed course the watch will alert you if you go off track which has saved my butt a few times. If that's not something you typically need and it's only a once and a while thing I'm sure the smartphone will get you by! Thanks for watching!

    Dave - for some reason I thought you were in Colorado like Des. Your area looks beautiful!
    Hey, if you’re willing, I am flip flopping btw getting the Pace2 or Ignite as a fitness focused upgrade from my AW Series 3. My body isn’t handling the amount of running that I’d like to do, so the Ignite’s suggestions of supportive workouts and better sleep diagnostics are tempting. But the Coros seems like a better running watch. Curious if you’d have anything to add. I know you found the Ignite’s touch display and lag in wrist-raising annoying. Thanks for a great channel.

      Colorado! I wish. I have to settle for the hills of the north east! I’d say go with the Polar if you want more training tools. The Pace 2 is awesome but it won’t provide you with much valuable feedback on your training. You could consider a stryd pod for more info but that will add to the cost. Hope that helps!

    Hi! I got one question. As a trail runner i very much appreciate the altitude measures (elevation gain/loss and height). Does not having a trail-running mode any difference in those parameters? Considering this watch has barometric-altimeter it shouldn't, right? Just concerned about that specific point, for the rest i'm very surprised with the whole model. Thank you very much for your reviews, they're so good.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  2 роки тому

      No effect on elevation data. The only downside to not having a "trail run" activity is that it will mess up your training metrics if you "trail run" using the "run" activity. Other than that, these activity profiles are just copy/pastes of eachother.

  • @RunnerRemRem
    @RunnerRemRem 3 роки тому

    Dave, it would be worth it to make it clear that despite how similar power from Coros and Stryd are, the Coros way of calculating power doesn’t take into account the form power measured by Stryd. Simply because a watch cannot do it. Therefore it makes it questionable that Coros did not calibrate their output to purely mimic the Stryd values. As a consequence, I would not recommend to runners who have a Coros and a Stryd to rely on the Coros power if they forget their Stryd pod. Particularly if they run on a soft surface (sand, mud, snow).

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 роки тому

      I suppose it depends how seriously you're taking your data. For me, I could see some situations where I could rely on the wrist based power if I didn't have the Stryd Pod with me. Particularly on roads or packed trails. But I'm mainly interested in the trends and not particularly interested in interval training with Power. Of course the Stryd is the gold standard and can't be replicated by a watch. But Coros is getting darn close! Thanks for watching!

      Kinda depends what you want out of your watch. Are you interested in "smart features" or simply need to track activities? The Pace 2 is awesome but it's very basic and doesn't feature a whole lot in terms of "smartwatch" features. You get the basic stuff like reading text messages but that's about it. The Garmin options have much more flexibility and access to the Connect IQ app store. That said, coros has CRAZY battery life and fantastic features like wrist based running power. The choice is yours! Thanks for watching!

    I have been using coming to 2mths and only complain is the fluctuation of HR (I'm using nylon band, pretty snug fitting). No major GPS issue for me except it's sensitive to low rise flyover or bridges, otherwise it's not bad in accuracy. Literally majority of my runs my HR either spike up super high for awhile before settling down or spike up in the middle of an easy run. I totally understand this is a flaw of WHR but my old 935 does to track better. Any pace 2 users face the same HR issue as me?

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 роки тому +1

      For sure, the OHR on the Pace 2 isn't perfect even as shown in this video. I find that it "stabilizes" after a few minutes of running but it's a bit laggy when the HR drops or raises rapidly.

    Great vid man! Question, for yourself and others - Does the Coros line of watches sync with Strava/MyFitnessPal? I had the biggest disappointment when I swapped from my Garmin to the Huawei GT2. (Admittedly I probably should have done more research) Only to find out the Huawei app doesn't sync with any 3rd party apps. The hardware is great I love the actual watch, its a really nice piece - screen is really bright and has lots of workout modes, is built well, but the software is horrible! doesn't integrate with anything apart from itself. It does have better functionality if you have an android phone but the iOS version of the app gets even less features than the android counterpart which I find crazy.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  2 роки тому

      Yes, COROS syncs with strava but not myfitness pal. There may be a 3rd party app to sync strava with MFP but I'm not entirely sure.

      Interesting idea for a video. For me, I just don't think they're all that different. Results would probably be pretty similar. At the end of the day the H10 is better if you own a Polar watch. And the HRM Pro is better if you own a Garmin watch since they unlock additional features in their respective ecosystems.

      C'est une décision difficile. Le Pace 2 est un excellent rapport qualité-prix, mais le Forerunner 245 a beaucoup plus de fonctionnalités et bien sûr la possibilité d'avoir de la musique à bord. L'absence d'altimètre n'est pas un problème à mon avis, car l'altitude basée sur le GPS est assez précise. Cependant, vous ne pouvez pas obtenir une lecture en temps réel de votre altitude actuelle si cela vous intéresse. J'espère que cela pourra aider! Merci d'avoir regardé!

    I have to ask ..
    I am looking to buy a new watch. i do not care about emails or notifications AT ALL. I need a watch for the various sports I do (Hiking, Running, Crossfit, Gym)..
    I searched for comparisons but couldn't find any.
    Why to buy Garmin or Coros or Suunto, when someone can buy Galaxy Watch 3 which has the same (almost) apps ? (yup, noob questions here).
    I know that the Garmin is more rugged in that matter, but other than that, if looking on functionality, what justifies these over regular Smartwatch ?

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 роки тому +2

      There's a few advantages to a straight up sports watch. The most obvious being battery life. This Coros Pace 2 can last for weeks on a single charge and up to 30 hours in GPS mode. Apple Watch, Galaxy Watch, Ticwatch, etc... all die within a couple of days of use. Another advantage is typically the sensors. Sports watches have dedicated altimeters, compass, barometer, and usually higher quality HR sensors (with the exception of the Apple Watch S6). Also, some people don't like needing to be "connected" to utilize all of the functions of their watch. A Garmin Fenix 6 has full offline maps... no internet required. There's a lot of pro's and cons. It's about choosing the right tool for the right job! For most, a smart watch is perfect (if you don't mind charging routinely). Hope that helps!
