    So great that you posted this video today.
    I rescued a mini Phal from a supermarket sale table about 18 months ago, and have tended it following your tips and advice. I was delighted to have it bloom for the first time. This past week I noticed a second branch sprouting, and then two days saw a little nub, which I realized yesterday was a second flower spike!
    The success and your video has made me want more minis!
    Also, thanks to your advice, I have been nurturing friends’ orchids and have had so many successful revivals for them Thank you so much Dani for sharing your knowledge.

    Hi Danni! Thanks for this video. Did not know that Mini Phals didn’t need the same amount of humidity as large Phals. I have my oldest orchid under grow light this year. Hopefully she will bloom this fall. It’s been 7 years. Don’t know the color of flowers. She came a long way from 2 leaves 1 root and dried up spike. Got her for 50 cents. A bargain. Stay well. Need your videos.

    The reason why they are mini sized is mostly due to the influence of Phalaenopsis equestris as one of its parentage. It is a species with lots of variants, all producing multiple small flowered inflorescence, offering a wide range of color tones and combinations of tones. Cross any Phal with this and you get table-top versions of your typical Phals. While there are other small flowered Phal species, it's the equestris that's a favorite for breeding since it blooms quite well in most conditions than other, more finicky species that also produce small flowers.

    Please let me know how to take care of Sedirea/Phal. japonica miniature varieties like 'Minmaru' and 'Minmaru Shima' ?! Watering, moisture, fertilizing, light etc. I have had good sucess so far with the species, but the rare varieties (not hybrids) have been difficult to grow for me and i have lost them over time.

    • @tanluwils1736
      @tanluwils1736 4 роки тому +1

      Hi there - I've been growing this Sedirea (Phal.) japonica for over 1 year and find they are easy to grow if you follow 3 guidelines: 1) keep the crown and root/step junction dry by elevating it above the media; 2) grow in bright light - like oncidium light; 3) provide a cold, dry winter rest for at least 2-3 months, misting lightly maybe once per week at most. They should not be grown like other phals.

    This video is a year old and a life saver. I have always wanted a orchid. I have a small apartment and many plants already. I broke down and bought 2 mini orchids. Thanks to this video, it saved their life's. I so would have stuck them into soil. I am tempted to see I can not get one into my Betta tank. He wood that sticks out a bit that has moss growing up it. The roots would wet and dry at the same time if that makes sense? Is that something a mini orchid can handle? Would it like it? Just the tips of the roots would be in water. The very tips of the roots only. Is this possible?

    I fill the container with water and leave it for 20mins then I drain the water completely, my orchids are not in any type of substrate I intend to have them wrap on a trunk bark with sphagnum moss attached to it, so they can wrap their roots, I also use aquarium glue to hold them up there, so they don't fall of the bark, that way I spray the orchids instead of watering them, that way they have no water that stays behind to rot the roots

    I was given a mini during winter and I haven't taken care of one before it's a little unnerving

    Another GREAT video! I have one miniature in my collection, a WalMart rescue. It bloomed for six weeks last fall and is now just about done pushing out a new leaf, so I assume it's happy. I'm curious, in one of your mini's you have a glass tube coming out of the medium. I assume that's for water. Could you explain how it works, the benefits/shortcomings and whether you recommend it or not? Thank you.

      I suppose that was the Lechusa pot, self-watering and the tube shows the level of water.

    Totally agree. The main problem for my mini phalaenopsis is it has grown too big! I have one white mini phal that I bought from Ikea 4 years ago. It was potted in a 2.5 inch pot and flowers once or twice a year which is nice, but the leaves are growing too big and the root system is huge so I have to keep it in a 5 inch pot. I wonder if it is really a “mini” hybrid, or I repotted it too soon so it have the nutrition to grow huge.
