This song runs up to a B4 (at least in the studio) but hes got notes all the way up to C6 live, as recently as 2015. His vocals arent for everyone but they fit the chaotic nature of the band. And yes Im pretty sure the stack is mostly a prop however for the size of this show, they probably used a fair bit.

Most of the time the Marshall stacks are empty props for show. There is usually only one or two cabinets that are actually being used. Sometimes even different amp rigs are used that are hiding behind the wall of Marshalls and are mic'd facing the backstage area. Or even the guitars just going direct through effects etc. and direct into the mixing board ...all the while have the wall of amp stacks for show. BUT there are some bands that will go through several amp cabinets of their amp wall

As someone who used to sing in metal bands when I was younger, my experience was contrary to what most of the vocal coaches seem to suggest when I hear them comment on various metal screams. In my experience doing this style of vocal regularly, my throat got used to it and the more I did it the easier it was. It wasn't doing damage, I could still use clean vocals whenever I wanted with no breaks or cracking. If I try to scream along with these songs now, it will give me a sore throat in very little time and make it much more difficult to sing clean afterwards. It's not because I've forgotten whatever technique I was using, I still produce the sound in exactly the same way, it's just that my vocal folds are not adapted to singing like this. I also suspect that having not maintained the adaptation, it would be very difficult to get it back later in life. I haven't tried, so I can't be sure, but I suspect, the body adapts more easily when younger and with regular use, it's easy to maintain that adaptation.

As a vocal coach, you must check out Dir En Grey. I would love to hear your take on the vocals for this band. I recommend you start with "Vinushka- Androgynous live ".
About volume and "huge" sound accoustically for extreme vocals: it depends on the person and technique used. Some people cup the mic to get more compression and volume, some rely on amplification more, some dont. I am not knowledgeable enough to be able to explain technical differences but I can tell you that personally, when I was in training back in the day doing extreme vocals I was very loud. We had a band rehearsal without the drummer one time so we just used small amps in a bandmates bedroom and i did vocals without any mic and amplification. I was almost too loud for the like 30-40-50-whatever watts practice amplifiers tuned to high gain settings.
Unfortunately Slayer retired last year after 40 something years of music they basically said we're tired and retired at a high point and rightfully so they've earned it
The familiarity probably comes from the flattened 5th in the chord progression. This was once called diablous in musica due to it's ominous sounds, and it goes back to Black Sabbath.
Hello and thank you for your videos. :) May I suggest another delicacy from the extreme metal area? A not unknown band from Norway. Named: Dimmu Borgier, namely the "Forces of the northern night" series either the concert in Oslo (53 musicians from the Norwegian radio orchestra and 30 members of the Schola Cantorum), or the one from Wacken Open Air, Germany (with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra) both great performances. The following songs would be the "best": Mourning Palace; Dimmu Borgir; Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse; Gateways; The Serpentine Offering. And then to come back down the instrumental Fear And Wonder. All the best, greetings from Germany
If you like intense vokals that are rather easy to understand, try Amon Amarth. E.g. "Raise Your Horns" live at Summer Breeze. For an effortless switch from speaking to growling try the introduction to "Lashed To The Slave Stick" by Nile live in Den Haag
They are the brothers of the big four . Big for means metallica ,slayer , megadeth and antrax . If you wanna ceck out you wil find on youtube the big four tour ! 🤘🤘
Slayer live: Band does not move, crowd does not move. I mean this is supposed to be thrash metal. I was at an Exhorder concert. Also an old school thrash band. They played in an afternoon slot at the Party-San Open Air. The whole part before stage was a moshpit for the complete duration of the concert. That was thrash metal.
Yeah seen them multiple times, they dont play tracks for the opening. That was just one guitar and was Kerry playing it while he walked out, Other than sometimes having a stage that actually rains blood on them they dont really do much for big intro and theatrics.
Was not expecting Slayer lol. The song/performance you chose, however, is a bit slow.. one of their slower songs from the late 80's. To get a batter idea of what Slayer was, the song 'Angel of Death' or the song 'Chemical Warfare' are more appropriate. Not sure of live performances though.. hard to find any good quality videos compared to today's recording technology. If you want something a bit more melodic from them, try the song 'Seasons in the Abyss.'
They stopped touring a couple years ago. Made for some really intense, but really sad gigs. At our big metal festival (Melbourne) they spent ten minutes after their headline set soaking it in.
Had some beers with Dave Lombardo and Kerry King (on different occasions) and they're the fucking nicest people you'll ever meet. Slayer are and always have been awesome. Do "Angel Of Death" please. If only for the opening scream...
I subscribed!! Really like your reaction to heavy metal/rock bands. It's so fun to see you guys get introduced to the talent and complexity of this (imo) underappreciated genre. There are tons of talented vocalists out there. If you haven't done Alterbridge with Myles Kennedy on vocals I highly reccommed it.
The Marshalls are real. And owned by the band. But only the bottom row is live. Kerry King uses 100 watt Marshall jcm800 heads. At this time, I believe Gary Holt used 100 watt Marshall DSL heads. In other words, the stage volume was LOUD AF 😊
He is one of those guys that when he smiles or laughs he is just such a sweet guy and then he gets on stage! I’ve watched some interviews with him and he really is just a nice guy. I only saw them live once way back in the late 80s maybe early 90s. Don’t remember. But it was before metal got super big. It was at an old roller skating rink and the stage was small and only like 8ft high. It was amazing to be so close to the band.
I'd like to see what you got to say about a band that I enjoy a lot ...still. Diablo Swing Orchestra with either The Age of the Vulture Culture or Lucy fears the Morning Star. There are not many vids live with this band. None of the 2 songs from above I found live and in good quality. There's a bass playthrough for The Age of the Vulture Culture, if you wanna go that way... or a videoclip for Voodoo Mon Amour if you wanna go for the official stuff, but the songs I mentioned before I think are more representative for this band. And I think you would have some things to say also about the vocals... maybe on Lucy Fears the Morning Star more...
yes Slayer was a pretty loud band live. i sadly only saw them once but it was a show to remember one of the best gigs i ever experienced. especially when you know each and every song they play (you know because they have become my second favorite band in time right after watain ps chem them out if you like to, completly different genre of metal check out their song Malfeitor for a good start) its pure adrenaline and freedom as you scream those lyrics and feel like one with the music and Band. they blasted so loud many people left because it was to loud.
@@gwaptiva This was on The Big 4 tour. Slayer were second to last to play. Anthrax started at 6 PM, followed by Megadeth, then Slayer and Metallica started around 10 PM. Best guess this was about 9 PM. Land of the Midnight Sun strikes again. :D
They have always used a track for the intro, and I've always wished they hadn't. I think the reasoning is that there are a bunch of layered harmony guitars on the intro, and they don't think they can match the recording with just two live guitars. But I've played this live with just two guitars, and I think it sounded fine. But yeah, this wasn't the first song of the show. Maybe first song of the encore.
Was probably their encore and there's usually just one or 2 real stacks the rest are empty. Most of the chord progressions they use are the devil's tritone which was banned I believe in the middle ages.

The South of Heaven riff has been used on Doom ua-cam.com/video/Z1y9pDu-hjA/v-deo.html and Just One Fix by Ministry ua-cam.com/video/TeJDIzPxd0M/v-deo.html
The marshal stack is 100% real - they don't use any fake boxes - Slayer is fucking crazy loud live on stage.
King Diamond: sleepless nights (live at the fillmore)
Slayer : best band ever to exist period
I have seen Slayer in concert, it’s like walking into hell...and enjoying it.
One of their guitarists passed away Jeff hanneman. You gotta check out some other songs! Also more pantera reacts all of pantera songs are slappers!
That riff your talking about uses a very similar progression as Dead Skin Mask and Coheed and Cambria's Welcome Home.
Hello and thank you for your videos. :)
May I suggest another delicacy from the extreme metal area?
New sub! Seen Slayer live twice.
Tom kills it in Angel of Death too with the note holding.
They are the brothers of the big four . Big for means metallica ,slayer , megadeth and antrax . If you wanna ceck out you wil find on youtube the big four tour ! 🤘🤘
I went to a slayer concert once. It was like 1:30 hour of nonstop intensity!!! One of the best concerts i've ever seen.
Slayer live:
Band does not move, crowd does not move.
Best Live Band ever ! .....how i miss their Mosh Pits so much .....Dead but for us Fans UNDEAD 4EVER !
I subscribed, a few months ago, but great stuff mate!
Slayer doesnˋt need more than Marshall-Stacks and a drum raiser! Cause they are SLAYYYYEEEEEERRRRRR! Check Angel of Death by Slayer
React to Alter Bridge: "Words Darker Than Their Wings" Live At The Royal Albert Hall, absolutely amazing performance from Myles Kennedy!
If they perform at Royal Albert Hall, they get a spot on the list!
@@KenLavigne Awesome! I was there for this show as well, was really great!
React to:
Atlantean Kodex-Twelve Stars and an Azure Gown
Please!
+1 to that!!!
Kerry King uses 100 watt
Marshall jcm800 heads.
At this time, I believe Gary Holt used 100 watt Marshall DSL heads. In other words, the stage volume was LOUD AF 😊
Love Slayer, seen them a few times. Despite their sinister image I was always surprised how nice Tom is.
I was at that consert. damn it was a good one to see whole big 4
*Concert
They were about to play Raining Blood at the end of that video.
The rest of the crowd is waiting for their more brutal pieces.
I can assure you, when I saw Slayer in Houston in 1991, it was the loudest shit I've ever heard. and I've been to Motorhead.
"The rest of the crowd is a bit disappointing"
Welcome to Sweden. Land of the reserved crowd. :)
Also the reason it's daylight and yet they're probably headlining a summer festival :D
Josh veitti, promise you classic meets modern. Its violin mixed with pop rock. Here for music not genre. Its amazing
It's the afternoon, I'm old and we've played this song like 10 thousand times...but hey, we're Slayer! Jk, I love Slayer...❤
Was probably their encore and there's usually just one or 2 real stacks the rest are empty. Most of the chord progressions they use are the devil's tritone which was banned I believe in the middle ages.
