SLAYER - SOUTH OF HEAVEN | Reaction
#Slayer #SouthofHeaven #LFRFamily
*SHOUT OUT to my son LFR JOJO! I love you Man!!! If you guys like Slayer, you’ll LOVE* ua-cam.com/video/5hQk7_CVu7s/v-deo.html
Great reaction,, guys,, as always. Let me throw in my two cents. In my interpretation of the lyric, you're misreading it. As with much of Slayer's lyrics, they may appear "satanic" but actually deal with the evils of humanity (war, mass murder, terrorism, greed, etc).. While "South of Heaven" could refer to Hell, it more likely refers to Earth. The opening lines "Judgement day the second coming arrives, before you see the light you must die" is a very apocalyptic/Book of Revelations take on the end of the world, and the rest of the lyrics describe the evils of humanity and how we will face judgement for our sins.
As I've long said, Slayer take the evils of the human race and neither condemn nor glorify it, but rather put it in your face and show us that all of us allow these things to happen.
In this and other videos, Jojo seems to think us metalheads are violent psychopaths. We're actually nice people that express our angry, violent instincts in a safe, healthy manner, through the music we listen to.
@@michaelbaldwin8484 Thank you my brother. I'll make sure he sees this.
@@LFRFAMILY 😁
If you love the drummer, listen to Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss
@@michaelbaldwin8484 Absolutely correct. Most people overlook the meaning of the song. Two Members of the group, Tom Araya and Dave Lombardo the greatest drummer ever to me, are devout Catholics. Slayer are akin to watching a horror movie. South of Heaven is about the Earth and not Hell. it’s about all t\he evils on the earth.
South of Heaven isn't Hell. It's Earth guys.
That is the unfortunate truth.
This song aged well...
U'r right.
Truth but that’s our role
Truth, this 🌎 is & will be hell🔥 when YAH & and the final war begins!
This band saved my life!!!!
No joke!
I had a speech impediment growing up, didn't speak to anyone but close family for over a year because of getting bullied. Learned guitar to express myself. SLAYER gave me an escape from my anger.
I learned that Tom Ayra (lead singer) was born in South America and English was his second language, and was also picked on for "Not speaking right".
That's why you can understand every word he says in a song, he is so articulate! It inspired me to 'learn' to talk right.
Almost chose suicide until discovering them.
SAVED MY F%#KING LIFE!!!!
❤❤❤❤
Glad to see you here.
Glad you’re still here 😎🤘💗
I have a similar experience and reason for getting into metal!
saved me!
Rock on brother, I'm glad you stayed around!
In 1990 me and a buddy were on our way home from a Slayer show in Dayton,Ohio, when my car broke down (alternator) This guy with his wife and daughter, stopped to help us. Total strangers, but it was different times, people didn't think twice about helping someone. Anyhow, we wound up crammed in the car with them, they ended up going maybe 30 minutes out of their way to drop us off right at my front door. A little less than 2 yrs later, I married that man's daughter. Here we are nearly 30 yrs later, and she's in the other room reading to our granddaughter, right now. I can tell you that her dad has since passed he was an awesome dude, but he was more than a little surprised when that random kid he had helped, showed up at his house asking for his daughter
He's talking about the terrible things people do on Earth which is South of Heaven
One of the most clever titles in Metal! Proves who's really listening to the message.
Exactly. Because people don’t understand the misconception is saying south of heaven as hell when it’s not it is earth
It is specifically about a society falling away from God not just that people do bad things. Lines like "conform a new faith" and "Obtained by immoral observance a domineering deity" hint at the worship of a false God. "On and on south of heaven" implies it is an ongoing process.
Slayer NEVER needed radio support! They have True Real Fans that appreciate the live experience!
You said A mouth full !
I wish these so called Rock station could have the balls and guts to play Slayer !
That's what's wrong with rock radio !
And that’s why A LOT of us can relate to their music, all the angst, angry frustrations of life. South of Heaven is actually about life on earth… Hell would be South of All of us 🤘🔥😎
Yes! Now that I’m nearing 50, I told my son, once you’ve live a little and then hear the lyrics you’ll understand. Is it weird that some slayer songs have brought tears to my eyes? LOL. It sounds funny, but I have. Knowing what happened, how could Angel of Death not make you cry? It’s horrible.
That's why alot of us poor white folks are pissed off! 😄

EARTH!!!!!!!!!!!!
South of Heaven = Earth
South of Earth = Hell
Song is about the downfall of huminity.
LFR JoJo " Where else would you listen to this?"
Every 80's Slayer fan " BrUh thiS whole albUm will quakE you cars subs. CRANK IT!"
I'm a nurse working the overnight shifts......I DEFINITELY listen to this and the like on the way to work . It gets me amped up better than coffee.
If you like killer drum beats skeletons of society or dead skin mask are good.
^This
Love me some dead skin mask
Anything on this album. Behind the crooked cross kicks ass!!
Dead Skin Mask is my all time #1 song. For 35 yrs I have followed this band, when I seen them at Camden NJ for their final goodbye it marked the 102nd time I have seen them live. SLAYER is Life. They never sold out and always gave 1000%. While far from perfect Slayer was,is and forever will be Top 3 most influential bands in the metal world......🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻"Fuckin Slayer"🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻...... Forever!.
@@jasondonnelly4926 Hell yes! It’s my favorite song off of this album. Mostly because I can relate to it (as a metaphor) and my upbringing. It brings me to tears most times I listen to it.
Dave Lombardo is the king of double bass
As a metal head, he’s great, but there are others who absolute beasts. But still one of the GOAT’s
@@luiswiley372 sad thing is Slayer sounds like crap without Jeff and dave
@@luiswiley372 I will not not pick a goat on guitar, bass or drums there's is a lot of great musicians put there. It you are into rock check Wolfgang van Halen New albums is really good
@@metadeth578 very true the chemistry between the band members has to be there!
@@metadeth578 I’ll definitely look into it thanks for the recommendation
Guys …..it’s on Earth. I don’t know if you guys were or are in to gangster rap, but they report on the same stuff. Slayer is like a horror movie. They tell it like it is. The music helps set that mood. It rips.
One of my favorite songs of all time from the hardest working band Metal ever had.
The lyrics to South Of Heaven are a commentary on the decay of our society through media manipulation and moral ambiguity. The song doesn’t speak of a coming Armageddon (The Rapture) but of one that’s already here eating our society a bit at a time.
This song came out in 1988 I was 11 years old and I bugged my big brother to take me to the record store so I could buy the cassette tape.
When this song came out the last thing they wanted was was airtime on the radio. Metal bands in the eighties were considered sell outs if their songs got radio or MTV play. The exception was a MTV show called headbangers ball.
one of tjhe most iconic songs in heavy music.!!
Jojo acting like he ain't ever heard this song. Lmao. You did a reaction to it Jo. Dammit boy!
This.
Yes Cap?
@@WojMoj what’s cap mean?
@@m.f.culler9012 lie...no cap= no lie
I listen to this to relax.
Dave Lombardo drums 🔥🔥🔥
On and on South of Heaven… Slayer made a career exposing the darker parts of mankind.
Hell is life on Earth! South of Heaven! people can be like Demons they create the Hell on Earth 4 others! love Slayer!
THE GREAT Dave Lombardo!!!🤟🤟🤟🤟
My favorite Slayer song. I love that opening riff.
Lol a rap fan asking why the lyrics have to be so vulgar. Lol laughed hard at that
Niah's missed, hope she's living her best life, as they say.
What happened?
Where’d she go?
'88, when I was 13 this was my fist encounter with Slayer. Since then it's my favorite song from my favorite album. Love it.
I actually listen to slayer when I’m angry to come down
1988 Slayer’s South of Heaven lyrics literally describes the modern world we’re living in with people’s egos caught up in social media pretending to be something they are not, women’s promiscuity, fatherless children, wars all over the world and pure confusion of where we’re heading in the future.
They were ahead of their time as they have with their other albums.
You should do another video reaction of War Ensemble and Seasons In The Abyss.
And a little trivia fact, their album “God Hates Us All” was ironically to be released on September 11, 2001.
The irony of life and Humanity!
I think the common misunderstanding about really aggressive metal is that it is the fuel to light a fire. For most of us it is more like an outlet for aggression. Oh and did Slayer care about radio play... God no... I think the idea that they could be on the radio probably would have offended them. There is a great quote from the lead singer when he was asked about the bands achievements he cited a picture he found. The picture of the Slayer logo spray painted on a wall in Iran in like 4 foot high letters. Listening to Slayer, or any band of it's ilk, is punishable by SEVERE laws of the country, and yet some fan tagged a wall with their logo. That is what motivated a band like Slayer...
Saw them in nyc great live show very good song
Slayer rocks for anything you want that energy boost for.
We're south of heaven. All of these things can be found on our blue globe.
I literally play this song and many other Slayer tracks in my office while doing paperwork 🤣
I listen to this before I sleep daily. It’s peaceful.
Reign in blood is 28 minutes of perfection check it out
Wow, introducing him to literally 🔥
Don't know when this was recorded cause Jojo already reacted to this lol
🤘🏻😎 SLAYER 🤘🏻
The bassist and singer Tom Araya is a devout catholic. Their songs are almost like stories of the dark underbelly of the earth and beyond.
It's about this world 🌎😮
80's Metal scene was lit AF. There will never be a better era 90s obviously the only exception with crossover ect... Slayer fans were the rowdiest MFers out there. I saw a show MegaDeath was 3rd band out and Slayers fans went so nuts waiting so long they were ripping the sod out of the lawn seats area and hit Dave M in the head he told the whole place to F Off and the band walked off. Slayer comes out and place went insane. The Energy was INSANE it Rocked
About 15yrs ago I was leaving the assembly line in Detroit heading to a party store gettin some wine to go with my smoke. This song was absolutely fuckin cranked the fuck up. About ten fellows was standing outside enjoy their smoke n drink and was looking at me like WTF this that song coming out of those speakers lol. A cpl hrs later and a cpl bottles of wine they where SLAYER fans. And just a few days ago walking into a meat market I ran into one of those guys with this song rippin from his caddy 🤘 needless to say we had some more smoke n wine together and enjoyed some more stories about music.
This song is not about hell... unless you're talking about hell on Earth that people create. South of Heaven is Earth.
They are who they are. Their music tells sick but true stories. AMAZING
A shame they've retired! So loved seeing them live! Their show in Nov'19 was one of the last concerts I saw before the pandemic shut everything down. It was the 100th concert my best friend and I had gone to in roughly 8 1/2 years. Saw only a couple of more after before early Mar'20 rolled around and well, here we are gearing up to finally get back to seeing a live concert again.
The transition into the next song is so good!!! The guitars fit perfectly. The drums, no one better!!
Great reaction guys🤘🏻🤘🏻🤟🏻
You two are a joy to watch. Keep it up.
When would you listen to this? Any time you wanna get hyped up for anything
Guys, I love this!!! You two are most excellent! Keep it going.
South of heaven is Earth, they're describing life on Earth
Difference between youth and experience. Live you guys!
Love that Montreal Expos hat man !!!!!!..........some kick ass groovy vibes from SLAYER !!!!!!
This is when Slayer was on Def Jam records!!!
I call my son bro every single day. This is awesome
The thing is that to a true metalhead, double bass drums are actually soothing, especially first thing in the morning.
In 1986 at 15 years old I bought their album Reign In Blood. It terrified me. I fucking loved it.
Aww that look on your sons face at 2:15. Not going to lie my first reaction to listening to slayer. Love your bond. You guys are an encouragement
Ahhhhh! The soundtrack to hell
🤘😝🤘
Fighting!?!?!? Tunes like these are great to hype yourself up with when you're hittin' the weights or at the gym. Guaranteed to help you push your limits. No giving up like a b#*#$ when listening to this, lol!
Really gettin to love you're families reactions. Keep doin you, guys!!! Double Foot Pedals!!! Coming through like a steam roller tunes man, ain't stoppin' for nothin'.. :~)
Enjoy college young man you are gonna be missed wanna see you rocking on ur guitar
so, after listening to this song many times over the years, i'm proud to say, you both know more lyrics to this song than i do.
The band SLAYER is the BEST THING EVER TO HAPPEN ORGANIZED RELIGION.
The singer and bassist, Tom, was raised hardcore Catholic and identified with the violence in the Old Testament and brought that out with the lyrics and imagery.
Lol when and where else would we listen to this?!? 24/7 BRO!!! For real!
A force that has lived all eternal
Omg I lmmfao at you guys trying to club up this song. Greatest reaction to this song ever. I'm crying laughing. Tom's description of hell straight broke your concentration on the song. An absolute true reaction. Thank you
that intro is what sets the vibe, it has a kind of evil, or haunting feel. its also earth, or literally south of heaven, or if you go by the feel of the song, the deepest pits of hell.
You feel cleansed after a good slayer album. Purified and ready for the day.
🤘🤘🤘🤘😤😤 you should do Rein in Blood next. I'm a hip hop head but I fuck with all types of music. Gotta keep you're mind open. It be shit you'd never expect to like that you end up loving.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥....South of Heaven is not Hell.....its Earth
This is one of my all time favorite Slayer songs.
These drummers got foot pedals that hit on the front and back of the foot
This whole album is fucking insane!!! Epic shit!! Mandatory Suicide! ! Gotta check that out too
So check this out...Tom Araya (singer/bassist) is actually a pretty religious person. I read an interview with him years ago and he mentioned he has been religious since Slayer's inception (obviously I'm paraphrasing...I wanna say he said he's been a devout Christian for a few decades). In either case...Slayer is out to entertain, just like every other artist. They are one of my favorite bands (I even have a tattoo of one of their album covers). All that said, if you enjoyed the drumming, that's Dave Lombardo. He is one of the best metal drummers of all time. And if you want some real intense Lombardo drumming, check out Testament's album "The Gathering." That will blow your mind. I'd personally suggest the tracks "D.N.R." and "Fall of Sipeldome." I promise you won't be disappointed!
When would you listen to this?
Before lifting.
Before a football game.
Before a boxing match.
Or, if you have a hard day at work, it’s great to listen to to get your aggression out. It’s actually therapeutic.
I've seen slayer live twice. Your reactions are so true.
Oh, wow... You're playing my wedding song. Sweet!
Seriously who doesnt want to roundhouse kick the boss once in awhile..."ima bout ready to kick your face off, i need a slayer break boss man."
Granted.
Judgement day is when the second coming of Christ happens. Before you see the light is referring to "the light you see when you go to heaven". Basically he's saying before you can be saved you must die. also, as other people pointed out. South of heaven is Earth. Great Channel, keep it up Homie!
Slayer scared the shit out of me as a kid and I loved them for it. Then I found death metal ;)
Congrats young man!!!
Slayer is my on the way to work at 5am wake up music
Props on the Expos hat. #oldschool
you two would make the perfect duo.
Remember seeing Slayer live at Hammersmith Oden early 90's, Season in the Abyss tour. Its amazing that their sound is as fresh today as it was then.
I used to listen to Slayer every morning before work... Now I listen to Lamb of God.... It makes me happy.
Dave lambardo is one of the best drummers of that time. Slayer’s music was mostly based on the horrors of the Nazi holocaust. Angel of Death speaks on the Death camps.
Wow. Instant gratification needed. Gotta let it fester and seep in. Lombardo was the standard for metal drummers. I was never a big slayer fan but mad respect
Talent of Rock is where’s its at yo🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🍕☃️
First honest reaction I’ve seen
2:10 bro on the left, that was so funny. He was like 😳 then he started vibing lmao
Yeah!!!! A Montreal Expos hat, my city's departed baseball team!!!
Slayer sings about the under belly of society. Exposing the dark side of humanity to the faces of those too scared to talk about. 100 percent king kong balls. Not for the weak at heart
Seen Slayer live more times than I have watched ur reactions \m/
To all the lfr .. thank you for taking the time to react to metal. Warms my heart that you are finally home..lol
Listening to music like this is why we don't kick the boss in the face
It reflects our shattered society. The aggressive energy reflects mosh pits in metal concerts. It's a fun aggressive space for people to let aggressive energy out without hurting eachother.
Song's also about the downfall of society.
What other occasion would I listen to this in? Literally any occasion. It's calming
All I can say is every album I got in high school from slayer Had to make me think for a minute. Their music always made me think about those lyrics man. It's just a hard cord look at life and what you don't want it to become
Man, this music makes badass workout music! And yes, it's called DOUBLE BASS DRUM!
That's what I'm talking about! Rock On! \m/
