This was the moment that finally sold me on that lineup. Everything about the performance was absolutely perfect in its execution and seemingly random nature. They were not there to sell or promote anything, just to spend 5 minutes kicking ass and scaring the fuck out of his audience which I'm sure was a complete success. Lol
As an old-time Slayer fan and now 40+ guitar teacher, you made my day. I'm not the only one who plays the blues but who gets violently excited when back to the roots. I feel exactly the same. Thank you, mate.
Imagine if they pulled a nirvana here and started the intro to raining blood just to go into that glorious scream and horrific scenes of angel of death.
I agree. Tom never gets recognized for his bass playing. Yes, it is simple - but it is intentional and keeps everything grounded. And he always plays super tight and holds down the pocket so the other guys can go crazy and all over the place and find the way back to the groove. Under-appreciated.
I'm totally invested in this channel and what you have to come! Glad you're able to get some new gear to make it even more badass. Rock on! And more Umphrey's, please 😉
Ethan Rutter; Never woulda considered a band with the ridiculous '60's era S.F. name 'Umphries McGee'. Now, thanks to this guy they're right up there with Vulfpeck (Joe Dart rules!)
I’ve gotta let you know that you and your channel has renewed my love for the guitar. I started playing again after an almost 7 year dry spell caused by years of constant gigging and touring that kinda took the fun out of it. When I say dry spell, I mean like zilch, zero, nada playing the instrument I’d loved since I was very young. I took my main LP out the other day, and gave her a long overdue set up. This Slayer vid couldn’t have come at a better time. A riff I know all too well, but I think that’s just part of being a guitar player. Btw, I never learned the rest of the tune either. Lol. Many thanks to you! 🎶🔊🙂
I'm so excited, that you are excited! Your channel is my new commute channel. Love the Phish stuff and I'm a guitar player myself. Brought me pure joy to see you breakdown Trey's subtleties! Keep up the good work!!
I saw their farewell tour, it was really sad at the end, Tom was on the stage alone just waving to the crowd alone while everyone was going wild. Poor guy can't even headbang anymore! Love them, though.
I got to work backstage security for Slayer a few months ago. They were some of the nicest guys you could meet, my spot was right by the steps they went up to go on stage, it was an awesome experience. Glad to got to be a part of their last tour!
Love the Fender Bullet. Love seeing how cheap guitars can do it all. (see also Mike Cooley from DBTs, plays crazy cheap guitars. sometimes smashes them (in the old days). Played insanely well.
Got into Slayer in 84, lost touch in the 90s. Recently looking back at my metal roots including Slayer great band. I watch a few of your videos and enjoy but NEVER seen you so into a track. Love it Thanks
A recognised classic now, it’s a perfect example of an intro building anticipation, which delivers and then drives on upwards! The song is both technically excellent and primal at the same time, it hits all the pleasure centres at once. File next to Ace of Spades.
I saw Slayer in Tuska 2019 (the reason why I got the tickets), and I literally almost fainted during the gig. I was *that* close fainting. Even now, as you put the video playing, I got goosebumbs up *everywhere*. I don't play anything but this qas an awesome video. ♥️
I saw Slayer on Graspop in 2019. It was their last show in Belgium/The Netherlands/Luxembourg before retiring. I'm glad I had the chance to see them. One of the best shows I've ever seen
I like to think there were some folks at this taping that had never seen metal played live and it completely changed their musical range. There have to be some converts!! Your Dead breakdowns brought me here but I am watchin em all!
Didn't expect this after all the Dead and Phish videos, nice. Love me some Slayer although you should have checked out an earlier performance with all the original members, especially Dave Lombardo on drums, love your breakdowns so hope you do more metal, but keep those Dead videos coming, peace.
i think i saw the tour you mentioned. it was early nineties 90/91 and called the Clash of the Titans tour. Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth and Alice in Chains opened that show. it was alice's first album and you could tell most of the crowd did not know who they were, myself included. Shortly after i started to hear man in the box on the radio. One of the best shows i have ever seen. oh yeah and Megadeth was touring on the just released Rust in Peace. IMO one of the all time great metal albums.
I was there too, Slayer was touring Season's in the Abyss and Anthrax had the Persistence of time back drops, someone threw a shoe at Alice in chains and they got all pissed
Dancing in the streets 11/9/79 there isn’t a video with the song but definitely my favorite live version of the tune. Bobs rhythm is out of this world in this one. It also segues seamlessly into franklins tower.
I was at the Reign In Blood concert here in "Detroit" (Royal Oak Music Theater) in 1986. Amazing! I'm sooo glad that I grew up in the era that I did. I was able to see Metallica with Cliff Burton as well. Stuff like that will never happen again, but if it does... I hope that young people can look back 35+ years and say "man... I remember seeing these icons when they played small venues". It's killer.
I was lucky enough to see them in 98 the best concert I ever went too they had people moshing up to the 2nd floor of the venue people diving off the 2nd floor awesome
Sweet! They totally knew they were on a level for that performance. That Dimebag quote is genius. D’you remember when he was called Diamond Darrell before Dimebag? I’ve got a couple old guitar mags with him in em as Diamond. Haha!
In 2000 saw them on a tour called Tattoo The Earth. The top 4 bands were Slipknot, Slayer, Sepultura and Sevendust. Also saw a brand new band called Mudvayne. What a show that was!!
i have an 83 red bullet.. my first guitar, I love that I can so easily wrap my hand around the neck it is so tiny... I believe the tour you were referring to was the Clash of the Titans tour(s)... those were some epic shows, especially when they filtered in early Sepultura.. man alive those were good times...
You know this song is about the AC-47 gun ship called puff the dragon or smokey because of trac rounds coming out of the mini-gun from the AC-47 look it up.
Almost 63 (next week). Saw Slayer at Lehigh university in PA. It was Slayer, Motorhead and Overkill...... On Halloween night!!!! At a small gym. There were maybe 8-10 thousand folks. But you see them playing gigs in Brazil. South America and European gigs and there were hundreds of thousands there. Amazing

Btw, sometimes it can be dificult and confusing, on a variety of levels but, you can put them down, take a break then when you pick them back up?! Wow. Magic.
SLAYER!!! \m/ \m/ So fortunate to catch them on their farewell tour in Toronto (w. Testament, Behemoth, Anthrax, and Lamb Of God... I KNOW!) and it was just transcendent. I've seen many great concerts, but these guys... my goodness.

Your smile almost matches Tom's! :) I saw them 3 times in the last two years and it was epic every time. My only question is, how can you go 5 years without playing 'Raining Blood'? My guitars get mad at me if I don't play it at last every couple weeks, lol. Quoting Dime, watching Slayer AND teaching guitar?? Yeah, I'm subscribing. Thanks Man, quite enjoyable.
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSLLLLLLLLAYEEEERRRRR! been my favourite band forever.......,I've always thought of Jeff and kerrys sound as guitar torture. Love it!!!!!
Imagine some of the folks in this crowd who thought they would have a nice relaxing night at the Tonight Show. Maybe watch some terrible interview with some teeny bop movie star. As you start getting comfortable, Slayer comes out and straight melts your face

Is it me, or does palmisano look like Ted bundy? No offense! Likes slayer. Serial killer or not, he’s ok in my book.
Totally looks like him, I agree with you. look up Travis Ryan, the vocalist of Cattle Decapitation. Now THAT guy looks like Ted Bundy
More like Ted mixed with Brad Cooper
Lmao bundy twin
Slayer with 2 Grammys on Fallon. Times have changed
@@martinoneglia5319 and this was 3 years ago
Been a Slayer fan since 84. If you would have told me that they would be on The Tonight Show EVER I would have laughed in your face.
See them on Jimmy Kimmel, their first network tv debut, with Hanneman and Lombardo
Slayer sucks, tonight show sucks.
I'm not laughing in your face, but pretty darn close.
Slayer has always blown and jimmy fallon is a fuckin jerk.

Good on Fallon and the producers of this show for having a band like Slayer. Awesome
As much as I love Raining Blood , I wish they had did Angel of Death.
i wish they did both!
Good luck getting that on TV! I do to though.
There’s no way Fallen could’ve gotten away with that without a huge controversy lol
I agree angel of death one of the best songs by any band ever.
Raining blood? What a fraud. Its reighn in blood. Idiot

I am also a bass player!!!!!! I salute you fellow bass player!!!
