Slayer doesn’t use green screen. They filmed this in Egypt. They have filmed videos in really difficult places. One video was filmed at the Mud Flats in Turkey. Ice-T did a cover of Raining Blood that you should check out. South Of Heaven is also an awesome song.

This was actually filmed on location in Egypt. Supposedly Slayer had to sort of beat feet and leave the country quickly after filming because the government was not to happy about the entire thing. Slayer and their imagery often expose shocking but true human history and real-life atrocities. Sort of like a horror film, it is meant to shock the senses.

Slayer is a great band but keep in mind, this song is Slayer Lite. A lot of their other music is a lot faster and heavier. They touch many subjects that other bands would be taboo. They are not condoning Satan, serial killers or killing. They are showing what you can see in the world
Another thing to think about is two members of Slayer are Christian. One of their drummers is Christian and was born in Havana. The singer is Catholic and was born in Chile

There’s a couple different interpritations of this song but the more common ones is that its abbout a certain sect of Egyption slaves that after a pyramid for a pharoe was finished and the pharoe was put inside the tomb, these certain slaves were basically thrown in the pyramid as well with 4 seasons of food (1 year) to protect the tomb from raiders…. well what happens? People go insane from the constant darkness with no escape… like an abyss… deadly fights break out and after 1 yr when food is low…. cannibalism and certain death….
and yes, with much political & local bribing, the did film this in & around the pyramids of Egypt…

This is a quote from the net.. to me it seems accurate in my opinion.
"song "Seasons in the Abyss" by Slayer is about the descent into madness and the struggle to survive and make sense of the darkness. It is a warning about how quickly life can spiral out of control in a chaotic world, and how humans can become desensitized to violence. The song is a metaphor for the willingness to ignore suffering, pain, and destruction in order to be able to find moments of peace and joy, while the imagery and chorus remind us of our mortality and how quickly life can be taken away. The song encourages us to make the most of life, appreciate the “seasons” of our lives and remember to be mindful of our mortality, so that we can make the most of our limited time."

Slayer is pure energy, they set the bar as the heaviest, most extreme band of their day, and I don't think anyone has topped them since. Think of NWA (I'm not a rap expert) or the most extreme gangsta rap outfit, and that's the corollary to Slayer. They were so shocking and so pure in their vision that I think of it more as art than music. Suggestion, there's a great thrash band just up I-25 from you (Denver) called Havok. I would recommend their video "DOA" or "From the Cradle to the Grave". Would love to see you do more Iron Maiden as well, that's a deep rabbit hole. Go Nuggets!

Regarding your point about the long song intros. Trash metal trend always has been known for having long instrumental intervals of solos, that create the atmosphere, highlight the story. You'll find these concepts with almost every band - Slayer, Metallica, Antrax, Testament, Megadeth, all took time to showcase their technicality and talent. On the other hand there is a fabulous video of interview with Frank Zappa. During the time, when MTV and music video culture got so popular he brought to light the reality of the insane video costs. In the late 80s early 90s to create a video itself was very expensive - we're talking 100 thousand $'s, plus the fees to be on the promoting music channel. The music commercialisation became more about advertising and selling song like a visual product with a hook rather than musical piece of art for listening. Man had a lot to say...
He was an amazing, funny and singer and guitarist, and was the front runner fighting against the music and lyrical censorship in the USA music industry. Thanks to him the EXPLICIT sign on the albums were invented. Worth checking out.

You pretty much called it on the out of body experience, into the abyss as decribed by Alistair Crowley. Rock and metal lyrics are many times purposefully open to interpretation. Not always a literal exact definition of the song. Tom lombardo the godfather of double bass drumming is one of the best, very creative. This very mellow Slayer song gives the drums time to shine. Its ok to just listen to the instruments and or vocals. Unlike rap where you have to pay attention to the lyrics more :)

Slayer got famous for "making you look!". They specifically used allegory and symbols to force you to look and listen to the real dark side's of history, real talk about political evil, exposing something controversial as it really is, etc.
Often times, people look away because a band like this could make one look into their own personal "Black Mirror".
As many have already said, absolutely NOT "Nazi's" ; the antithesis of.

Slayer (and many more metal bands) often has layered lyrics. This means they can write songs from the perspective of a nazi, a serial killer,.... This makes people think they are "this" or "that" while they are actually exposing ugly stuff in society. That can be lyrical, through symbols and imagery,... And it's provocative too yes. Something rappers definitely could get behind I think.
This song is about the dark side of your being, taken from a book I think? Definitely an occult 19th century thing. Dark thoughts are often a subject in metal as it is not a thing we avoid but embrace. It deepens your being but sometimes is a nasty path.

The whole song is about letting go of the collective thought.
Most of us have “our” opinions but if one really thinks about it…”your” opinion is typically something you heard or read from someone else that you either admire or hate.
    It WILL kill your individuality.
They’re simply saying let all that go………..while being allowed to play the song in front of some ancient structures.
    C’mon.
    Fkn metal 🤘🏼

The song "Seasons in the Abyss" by Slayer is about the descent into madness and the struggle to survive and make sense of the darkness. The song encourages us to make the most of life, appreciate the “seasons” of our lives and remember to be mindful of our mortality, so that we can make the most of our limited time.

Hate to break it to ya, but the skull decal on Jeff Hanneman’s guitar is what you thought it was and got the wrong idea about him and them over. Slayer fans know better and this is an example of someone seeing something they don’t like and think it’s an endorsement for, which it’s not. Slayer’s music is very Punk Rock based and they all share Punk attitudes about everything. Nothing is too shocking or off limits because they see the limitations as a form of individual weakness. Something you’d be interested in knowing is Jeff Hanneman’s dad was a WWII vet who brought back a lot of Nazi and SS artifacts from Germany, which always fascinated Jeff. Those fascinations showed up throughout Slayer’s career and caused some controversy, but usually only with woke lefties. Lots of times the messages were very anti-Nazi, but because their lyrics do tend to be ambiguous, some people thought the opposite of what they intended. They wanted people to make up their own minds… and Jeff once said was “I don’t need to tell you Hitler and the Nazis were bad because everyone already knew they were. We’re just presenting history and it’s up to people to decide how they feel about it. We don’t need to tell them how to feel.” He wasn’t a Nazi in the least… do you think a Nazi would be in a band with guys born in Chile (Tom Araya - Bass and Vocals and one of Jeff’s best friends until he died) or Cuba (Dave Lombardo - Drums) both of whom have indigenous ancestry? Dude was misunderstood by everyone who wasn’t a Slayer fan, and yeah, maybe he brought it upon himself, but he wanted to force those dialogues to happen because it takes away the power of the subject in the hope others won’t follow that path.

Maybe it's time to meet 5 beautiful ladies in high heels and dresses playing classic heavy metal? For starters, I recommend the song Break the Wall from their earlier albums. Boasting over 70 hit singles, they won Best New Metal Band at the Metal Hammer Awards in 2018. The girls play heavy, thrash, power and prog metal, they also have some beautiful ballads. It was that symbol! But it's not a sign of Jeffs's allegiance to Fascism( The guitarist ).., It's a reminder that it happened!
His father fought against the Nazis and returned home to the States with a few trophies that he got from kills. Jeff became obsessed with that period of history.
I'm glad he did these things, Slayer and especially Jeff were never into Nazism or any kind of repression but they were constantly accused of it simply because they had the tenacity to, openly and brutally describe what happened within a genre of music that was always going to be a poster boy for Evil in a closed-minded (mainstream)society like the USA in the '80s and '90s.
They've written many songs about War, Religion, and Societal denigration.
They have always reflected the worst of humanity back on itself without ever supporting it. But like a deadpan comedian, it takes an audience with intelligence to get it and not be offended.
I challenge you to listen to "Behind the Crooked Cross" or "Angle of Death" and then come back and tell me that these guys are fucking Nazis instead of unfiltered truth-tellers of the horrors of Fascism.

You mentioned this video being shot to make it look like it was somewhere in the Middle East… It was the late 80s and early 90s. These records, like Seasons In the Abyss, Rust in Peace, etc, reflected the times, and the current state of the world, both politically and socially. So much of the content on these records revolved around what was going on in the Middle East, with Desert Storm, as well as the social unrest in the streets in cities across the US. If you wanted to know what was really going on, you definitely weren’t tuning into the mainstream media and their lies, which was the only option we had for news and current events, since social media didn’t exist yet. Kind of sad when you think about it since the same shit is still going on in 2024.

Oh boys you stumbled upon one of metals legends!!!! Slayer is definitely NOT pro Nazi, but they do talk about very horrifying subject matters that others often shy away from, thus they seem particularly hard and sometimes even "evil" in some opinions.although the latter is not true either necessarily, they do have some disturbing and definitely darker lyrics than most, but that in no way means they are evil...simply that they are interested in discussing darker subjects and topics.however,Tom and Kerry have a great taste in horror themed stories and tales....art in general I suppose. They collect horror themed stuff as far as I can tell.them is my peeps!!I love them!their ability to write and PLAY their instruments....holy crap, the drums on this track are my favorite on the album!!!I've been lucky enough to rock at a Slayer concert in person and i can honestly say that it was SUPER HEAVY!!loved it!🎶❤✌

That's rock'n'roll guys. Lyrics are purposely vague to reach as many peoples as possible. If your into drugs, religion or voodoo, there's something for you. Don't always look for deeper meaning with this, its mostly just brutal lyrics shouted in a cool different way.
