If you think 2012 is a long time ago, I first saw Slayer in 1990, alongside Megadeth, Testament and Suicidal Tendencies. Saw them twice after that at Donington Park, '92 and '95. They never disappointed. Awesome live band.
89 my first, several times after up to 2009
Like seeing these old school comments i seen them around 94. Nissan pavillion in VA. The exact date escapes me. lots of metal concerts and lots of weed back then. Baltimore had a great metal scene. Philly not so much
What an effing lineup. Suicidal Tendencies mught be the hidden gem on that bill.
There in '95. See Megadeth on Youthanasia tour, and Overkill on Killin Kind. And Shitallica at Earl's Court '96, and they should've ended in '86, or '85.
1984 haunting the west coast tour Reseda country club I wanna say Dec if I remember correctly
Saw them in '88 on this tour. Lombardo is simply the greatest.
Same, on Halloween no less, one of, if not the best, live performances I've seen by them. Got to meet Dave with his other band Philm, great drummer, great guy, very down to earth.
First show I ever saw them was at the country club in Reseda CA , 12/84 haunting the west coast tour
"Melancholy and the infinite sadness was on of the greatest albums ever made"
Well asserted.
I was about to type this comment as well. Fantastic album and cool that he feels the same.
Billy Corgan is a HUUUUUGE Slayer fan. Interesting that he picked that homage up.
Good call on Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Corgan has said that he is a big fan of metal and Slayer in particular.
Yes. Corgan has also said Smashing Pumpkins started out as a Metal band, but those influences often get diluted by the other styles and influences they include. They’re an amazing band. I’m proud o have been one of the few Metalheads who’s loved Smashing Pumpkins since Gish.
@@julianortiz4151I'm the same massive metalhead but I delved deep into smashing pumpkins only just a few years ago but their work is actually bloody amazing. Love how Gish has a nice mix of metal and psychedelic influences. Their first 3 albums are absolute masterpieces.
Let’s be real slayer is number 1 of the big 4 🤘
the most "true to the genre" one, without a shadow of doubt.
Megadeth more tech but Slayer was indeed the fastest.
Yes.
100% right!
Testament and Exodus … should really be the big six
I'd buy an album with Carole King singing with Slayer
Same
Ditto
Sounds like something Bill McClintock would come up with, Soul/Metal mash-ups are kind of his speciality.
I couldn’t stop imagining Carole King playing and head banging with this song!😂😂
I can’t listen to Slayer now without thinking of her. 😂
@@Greatmeasures 🤣🤣
Dude is cool as hell...like a mix of Jim Morrison and Andy Warhol
All the world’s a stage...
Dude is cool.
He's definitely got the Andy Warhol down
@@laurenfazenbaker9777 You are right, that he has, very observant.
@@laurenfazenbaker9777I bet he's a much funnier guy to be around than a grim looking Warhol.
Just was playing slayer in the car with my grandma today and she cranked that up! Had Spill the Blood playing lmao did not expect her to start head banging.
Love this! 🤘
She’s a national treasure your grandma!!!
Huge Slayer fan here. Loved this reaction. I agree this was probably one of the more palatable Slayer songs for a first time listen and reaction to, but may I suggest the songs “Blood Red” and “Seasons In The Abyss” for future Slayer reactions? There’s probably more I’d add to those, but from my poorly trained musical perspective the Seasons In The Abyss album has their best crafted and somewhat musically coherent material. I’m sure Judson would probably dig them. Good channel, I’m now a sub. Can’t wait to see more.
Thank you! Seasons in the Abyss will be the next Slayer song we do. 🤘
@Greatmeasures1 How about Death Angel's The Ultra Violence from 1987?
All the members were under 20 and the drummer was only 14.
I saw them in 1988 in support of this album with Overkill and Motorhead opening at Harpos in Detroit. Metal at its finest.
Wow nice gig
Holy shit, Harpos. Awesome. I lost a tooth there.
Same, cept I saw them on Haloween. Killer show, & that's putting it mildly.
Dude keep them coming. You guys are fantastic.
Thank you! We’re recording more tomorrow. 🤘
Dave Lombardo is the drummer on this album, he left the band in '92 to form Grip Inc. He was replaced by Forbidden drummer Paul Bostaph who was then replaced by Dave who left again in 2013 to play for Testament and Suicidal Tendencies and was replaced by Jon Dette. Paul rejoined the band for their final tour in 2019 and Jon is playing for Anthrax while Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante tours with Pantera. Dave made me switch from guitar to drums on Show No Mercy. He was supposed to play for Testament on their 2023 tour but is sitting out, he's playing for The Misfits, yeah, that band from Cliff Burton's tattoo.
Dave is with Mr. Bungle now, check em out if you've never heard
Probably one of if not the most evil riffs ever put to paper... RIP Jeff... Keep exploring my friend. I LOVE classical music as well, and music is a very personal thing. You like what you like, and you owe an explanation to no one. God bless...
One of the first riffs I learned was the opening/main riff from "South of Heaven ". I remember my grandparents hating it
great tune off an amazing album. drumming clinic
My favorite slayer album
This has to be my favorite reaction I've seen on this channel so far, it was awesome to see how this song was received.
Thank you! 🤘
Im going to do my best to get Kerry King to see this.
😂😂 We don’t want to feel the wrath of Kerry King… or Carole King for that matter.
Hahaha
If you know him he’s considered a god in metal
@brandonsimmons1695 I don't know Kerry King, it was mostly a joke.
I do know a guy that was friends with Paul Bostaph in high school so I did ask him to see if he could help get the message to Kerry.
@@djimpetus 🤣🤣
Crypt of eternity, Crypt of eternity, Crypt of eternity, Crypt of eternity, Crypt of eternity, listen you'll trip!!!! slayer is badass
Should have ran that right into “Silent Scream”
SLAYYYERRRR
🤘🤘
Ahem, on the topic of Slayer:
Seasons in the Abyss
Mandatory Suicide
Angel of Death
War Ensemble
Jihad
Dead Skin Mask
Ghosts of War
:)
Awesome! I was going to do Seasons in the Abyss next. We’ll use this list, for sure. Thanks!
Angel of death
South of Heaven is an underrated album because it came after Reign in Blood, but Mandatory Suicide and Ghost of War are two other bangers from that record.
The title track and Silent Scream are two of my favorites.
Slayer South Of Heaven By Far My Favorite Slayer Album. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
love yalls dynamic
🤘
love the XYU reference...my favorite pumpkins song as a kid
This guy REALLY knows his stuff 😮😮
Loved Judson's air drumming with his feet to the double bass drums.
So good to listen again after long time !
great metalhead friend's suggestion ever.
This guy is great. His attitude is on point
SLAYERRRR!!!
Slaaaaaaaaayyyer!!!!!!
Carol king bahahah! Love this guy!!
I never know what’s coming out of his mouth next. 😂
@@Greatmeasures
His influences come from an entirely different place 🤔 That’s definitely part of why it’s fun to see what Judson thinks about metal music! 😄
you need to see them live
I am subscribing based partly on the strength of the Carole King joke. You got me.
The best live band ,band ever.!!!
SLAY SOME PLAYER!!!
Reminds me of an emu listening to metal 😅
Aloha guys!!!
Judson I love your mannerism and hot takes on my childhood favs.
Pls do Angel of Death and Reign in Blood pls.
Will do! 🤘
So cool to see interesting connections.
I think if Judson would do a complete breakdown musically of these classics you would take it to the next level….just a thought to help you all come to prominence and domination.
FNM Angel Dust (any/every song) and Pantera Cowboys from Hell as well. May God Bless all the Works of your Hands!!
Thank you!
@@Greatmeasures I like this channel. Here is a band and song for you guys to try. Kalmah and one of their best songs Ready For Salvation ua-cam.com/video/Y8tXPA2Z3Kc/v-deo.html and there is other good songs too in For The Revolution album like Dead Mans Shadow. Much love from metal capitol of the world, Finland
/
Fuck yeah! Smashing Pumpkins are awesome! I often put them on when tripping on acid. They have a really trippy sound
Dudes! If Kerry King saw this he would be laughing his head off!
"Jiminiy Cricket she's good!"
😂
Mellon Collie is amazing. X.Y.U. would be right at home on any sludge/doom album. Billy definitely has some love for metal.
F'kn Slayer! 😎🤘
if you enjoyed seeing Slayer live, and miss shows like that, I have a tip for you. Go see CAVALERA. Max and Igor Cavalera from Sepultura formed this awesome band.just saw them Friday night in Dallas, best metal show in years.
I agree, Cavelera Conspiracy are sensational. I live in hope they come to Australia soon 🤞
I love everything Max does but nothing comes close to what Slayer is like live.
he will love all the classical stuff on cradle of filth's "cruelty and the beast"
Beneath the howling stars!
@@legitwhitebelt8353 yasss
1- "Bathory Aria"
2- "Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids"
3- "Beneath the Howling Stars"
@l.A.0 great choices. My favourite is thirteen autumns and a widow. I'll never get bored of that song. EVER
@@legitwhitebelt8353 yeah that one and "twisted nails" were late bloomers for me but they are amazing!
@@legitwhitebelt8353 the first thing that stood out for me from that album was nick's snare beats when dani screams "staaaars" the first time in "howling stars"
You look like you have all kinds of mathematical structures going on in your head while listening to this. Or at least somehow hearing a lot more than I do. Interesting in any case!
I saw them on the clash of the titans with megadeth, suicidal tendencies and testament!!
Love to see him dance
5:10
Slayer tunes their guitars a half step down from standard guitar tuning.
At E Flat. And with probably never hearing Slayer before, he picked it up instantly.
The dude rules. 🤘🤘
🤘
I was pretty amazed to see him pick up on that too. Definitely a true musician. ❤🤘
Very good Review - funny and interesting - Like it
"Carol King is a monster on guitar", " I hope to God Kerry King never sees this video, ´cos he is no nonsense and you are all nonsense". Only couple of onliners here. You two would´ve been a massive hit in the 80´s action movie...
1:30 in and this man already understands SLAYER!
2:58 "Lots of 80's of metal is in E minor so... E? nope. E flat" 😆😆
oh sorry he was trying the D first 🤪 (watching fullscreen)
Agree with Judson (sp?) about Mellon Collie - such a good album.
I wanted to see him play along with it
Suggestions: slayer - seasons in the abyss, slayer - raining blood and then tori amos’ cover of raining blood, ozzy - mr.crowley, ozzy- diary of a madman, necrophagist - fermented offal discharge, dimmu borgir- kings of the carnival creation, cradle of filth - the forest wispers my name (v’empire album), marty friedman - forbidden city, meshuggah- transfixion, pain of salvation- sisters, gary moore- loner ( stockholm concert live).. actually you should watch videos of these too :)
Thanks for the suggestions. The next Slayer song with definitely be Seasons in the Abyss. 🤘
not too many people calls transfixion to the fold. Nice dude. Also I think that Karnivool, Obscura, Alkaloid, Alluvial are good to check out
Where is megadeth and testament?
@@Gabiirev got Peace Sells and Seasons in the Abyss coming up within the next week.
Carol King!!! lol I've been laughing for hours!! Bet Kerry would too. lol Great thing about music is that you can really love both SLAYER (must be yelled) and Carol King. Who woulda thunk it? lol
Absolutely!!
KINGS OF THRASH !!! 🤘
Have you ever done a video for Death?
I'd love to hear a reaction to anything from individual thought patterns.
My name is blood, It's raining mud.
lol, pick it up a notch. Exactly what Slayer said when they handed the challenger a beer in the first place, when they said rock'n'roll is fast enough
did he just mention the goat himself Dion🙏🏽
Slayer kicks ass!
o cara tava tendo convulsao uahuahauha
Melon collie is one of the greatest albums ever made.
Did you kids catch that ?
This is the channel that you needed to click on in order to heard that shit.
Old dude knows what’s up 😊
Lombardo prolly the best drummer ever
yea, best metal drummers IMO Lombardo -SLAYER, GRIP INC Igor Cavalera- SEPULTURA, CAVALERA, SOULFLY Philthy "animal" Taylor-MOTORHEAD, Gene Hoglan -DEATH, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, TESTAMENT
@Zionsol777 Eh...Thomas Hakke would like a word. Danny Carey too, I think.
Should definitely have him check out Black Sabbath especially their first track “black sabbath” can’t go wrong with the first metal track ever
Itbwasn't though. Even Sabbath would say so. Bands like Budgie and even Cream were doing 'metal ish'stuff prior.
@@jpgduff no
The best drumming on any Slayer album is found on South of Heaven bar none. Especially Dave's insane fills.
I'm going to go against the tide here... I'd love to see you react to some Phish, maybe you enjoy myself or guyute or Reba :)
And with the tide I will recommend holy wars by Megadeth :)
Bro! He’d never give me those! Plus Ive been seeing shows since ‘99. I’d spend 2 hrs picking Reba apart and still wouldnt have it all said! Good to see I got some phans in here though!
That pumpkins album IS heavy.
Ad Infinitum - I Am The Storm. You will love vocalist Melissa Bonny. Everyone does.
You should do one with only Halloween songs 👻 🎃 when its time for that holiday. Not only Metal songs. But two that MUST be included are King Diamond ”Halloween” and VOITH ”On The Night Of Halloween”.
Also thought about wearing Halloween costumes for Halloween songs as well.
@@Greatmeasures that would be awesome my friend 🙂 go for it 👻
You could add Type O Negative's " Black No. 1 ( Lil Miss Scare-All) to Halloween songs.
#CaroleKing LMAO You guys are hilarious
Does the right guy have absolute hearing? Because normally one would say it’s a low e, because the 6 string doesn’t get lower. But it’s indeed an e flat, because the guitar is tuned down a half step. Nearly all Slayer songs are tuned to e flat though. The newer one maybe even lower.
He has perfect pitch or absolute pitch. I envy it every time we do one of these videos. 😂
@@Greatmeasures ah yes, perfect pitch was the term. In german its what I wrote literally translated. I envy those people too.
Jetson looks like a hardcore kinda kid. I would be wary around him on a -say- Integrity concert, haha.
Maybe a Phish concert. 😂
@@Greatmeasures I'll need to familiarize myself with those cats. So much great music out there. Whatever is someone's jazz that makes them go ape shit, I salute to that. The sad thing is much more when someone isn't moved by any kind of music.
@@9xqspx6 well said. Thanks for watching! 🤘
Would love to see Revelation Mother Earth by Ozzy covered
Would love to hear what you think of Phantom of the opera by Tommy Johannson. ..
I'd like to see him listen to Iced Earth's version. 😅 🔥
Try war ensemble, reaction to this will be interesting, banging drumming and crazy vocal shouts👌👌
She is good 😅😅😅😅
He would love Haggard imo. The Final Victory is a great song.
Yes, south of Heaven is indeed earth..i.e. worldly.
Araya first language was not english, neither was mine so I loved in Slayer songs that I could literally understand every f* word
Heh, where do you think Smashing Pumpkins learned it? ^_~
And I couldn't agree more. MCIS still holds up to this day.
This man needs to hear Archspire.
South of heaven is earth
Hopes for more subs and views for your channel.
Thank you! We’re going to upload more videos tonight and over the next week. 🤘
@@Greatmeasures you have to react some power metal bands, like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Helloween, etc.
@@MaliuntinuvuVlog we’re going to. Do you mind suggesting some songs that he should start with those bands? For Maiden, I was thinking Hallowed Be Thy Name.
@@Greatmeasures starts from Hallowed Be Thy Name first.
I rolled up pennies for 7 hours to buy melancholy and the infinite sadness l. I was 11
That’s awesome! The things we used to have to do to get the music we loved… 🤘
Great to hear from the autistic musicians
You should 100% do dio when the chains are on or holy diver or any song from him all good masterpieces he'll like
Neil Patrick Harris on sale be like:
I wonder if Billy Corgan has ever cited "South of Heaven" as influence...
Not sure if u were joking can’t ever tell from comments, lol but Billy has said many time over the years he was a big Slayer fan and there are videos here on UA-cam of his thrash band he played guitar in before smashing pumpkins.
RIP Jeff Hanneman.🤘🤘
