Great review. I also own the PolarPro Basecamp with a good number of filters but wish I know about Tilta Mirage first. No big deal though since I order two Mirages today for my A7s iii and A7 iv. The PolarPro can live on my pocket 6k pro. Besides the Sony cameras are going to be the ones I use on gimbals and the pocket 6k will always live on sticks. Again, thank you for the review and the proper comparisons. I feel a lot better about my purchases.

Hey Michael, how come the color palette at 8:14 looks out of focus on the Tilta Mirage? Does the Mirage suffer from sharpness around the edges?

Hi! great review! Is it possible to put a lens cap into the adapter rings? So I can store multiple lens with their adapter already plugged (and with a lens cap on in)

Thanks a lot! I would suggest to google something like „rubber lens cap“ and then add the diameter you‘re looking for. There‘s a ton out there😎

Hi great video. Now can I change the motorized vnd filters with the vaxis and if so how? It looks pretty screwed in. Thanks so much.

As far as I know, you can‘t. They look quite screwed in to me as well🤙🏻

Keeping my PP with 2-5 & 6-9 stops for my Sony 200-600mm lens and potentially other 95mm-threaded lenses. Tilta Mirage could fit with a 95mm to 95mm flat ring but there are none. Tilta Mirage is better for video, gimbal to change the density wirelessly and would consider it later as it's the better system imho. Also addons are way cheaper for Tilta.

Yo, At 3:26 i could see something that i didn’t expect, are those the lines from the filter itself?

Great eye for details😎 Yes, that is a reflection pattern which is common with this type of streak filters in matte boxes. Depending on how harsh the light hits the matte box, this might occur (same with the Bluemorphic from PolarPro at around 8:08).

Thanks, I usually always use a VND and Pro Mist filter 1/8 and unfortunately if I do this on the Mirage I would have to buy a 4x5 mist filter which is more expensive than the whole Mirage unit. I have only seen one video showing someone being able to double up 90mm filters on the mirage, which does not enable the motor to be used, but it would be nice to know if it actually able to use 2 90mm filters at one time. Thanks for the review and any information you may know about whether this is possible or not. I figure I could use my 1/8 77mm pro mist filter on my lens and then attach the adaptor ring 77mm for the mirage, right?

this is why I went with the base camp over the tilta, the filters are so expensive that it doesn't make sense for my personal use case.

@@dygonproductions7062 Not sure I get what you said, The Base camp propriety filters are WAY more expensive..

No, you can actually still put a pro mist filter behind the mirage matte box.

    Is the VND IR cut?

For long time i am looking for a matte box with variable nd filter solution and this tilta mirage seems to be a really good option. But being a Cinematographer i shoot with different kind of lenses with different focal lengths. Though this product seems to be very promising i am still worried about a fact that how much wider of a lens can i use with this system. I just love my sony 14mm 1.8 GM lens and i want a matte box filter system which will cover the focul length of my 14mm and all the other lenses i use. In UA-cam or even in google there isn't any answer to this question. I would request you that if you can say something about this from your testing.
    Thanks in advance.

      Hi
I went as far as 17mm on the Mirage and it worked up to 5 stops without an issue. Probably won‘t work with 14mm, this is very wide. I think the easier solution is probably to go with screw on nd filters, aince they are close enough to your glass to prevent vignetting.

      @@MichaelEgglerFilms, I have Sony 12-24/2.8 GM.
How big Mattebox do you need then?🙂

    • @MichaelEgglerFilms
      @MichaelEgglerFilms  Рік тому

@@peterhansson2165 as far as I know, there is not really a solution for anything wider than 14/15/16mm. There are filter systems designed for this lens, for example NiSi S5/6. That being said, it‘s most likely cheaper to go with a rear lens filter solution. To control flare & Co., you‘re probably best off flagging the scene😅
