- In this episode we take a look at the brand new Tilta Mirage Mattebox. I can see this being the future of mattebox and Tilta starting a trend towards this direction. It is a long video but I made segments so you can find what you are looking for a bit easier.

Good job Alex, as always!
thanks for making this. Looks like a solid system.
Waiting on mine to arrive!
Just ordered mine. Thanks for making this
🔥🔥 Thanks for your review of Vaxis Filters!
Have you tried putting the VND filter in front. So you can stack filters with the motor and battery?
Hey what rod base plate did you use. My matte mirage with current set up it hit the ground. I need a rod system to to the pressure off the lens mount.
Sweet Alex
thanks for your review eres un crack 🔥🔥🔥, saludos desde colombia
Can a xeen lens fit that box?
Hey bro do you have a recommendation for a monitor mount that sits on the front part of the Tilta top handle ? I find that where you have it mounted makes the camera rig have too much of a high profile ?
Curious how you’re able to use a S35 lens on the A7S3?
Nice Video! Does the VND has hard stops or is it seemless?
Thanks for answer!
😍🔥🔥
how did you fit this on a 95mm thread lens? the max diameter of the box is 95mm not the lens thread?
Can you stack circular vnd and circular pl
Hello. How to lock the control wheel of the Matte Box? In order not to accidentally hurt someone when shooting a video?
Thanks Alexandru, a good illustration of the Mirage's capabilities. I'm a newbie trying to teach myself videography skills and have just orderd a VND kit. Lots to learn but I'm sure I made a good choice buying this kit. I note your lens is a 20-55 cinema type, so it begs a few questions....
a) Do you get any vignetting at 20mm using VND filter alone? What about also using secondary 95mm Vaxis filters?
b) If yes to (a) then what focal length does vignetting stop?
c) What lens are you using here and does front element move in/out with zooming (tricky if using rail mount support)?
d) You mention no battery power option to motor if secondary filter tray, but will a remote USB power lead work OK?
e) Presumably you are using remote follow (manual) focus too, if so which - Tilta Nano or Nucleus M? Any views good, bad etc?
What about the limitation while using 95mm Stackable Circular Filter (lol)
Yes, I mentioned that in the video.
The wireless motor actually drains the 14500 battery even when it is switched off - Tilta recommends taking out the battery whenever you don’t use the motor. They said they’re trying to fix this "quirk" with a software update in the future. What a disappointment :(
Do you know if this issue ever got solved?
Can you take the flag off the mattebox?
too bad the variable ND has the x pattern on any lense under 50mm. They lied on the website and customer service was no good when I called. The guy was rude and didn't help. I returned it.
Wait, what? X PATTERN? please explain, it will help me because I haven’t noticed yet. My issue is with the Stackable circular tray, that little piece is heavier the the whole MB (lol) and off course it’s unless if I am using VND with motor.
Really ? you mean when you go past a certain amount of ND? I have not seen hat and seen some guys doing reviews with the 24mm and 20 mm Lenses..? Where did you see that happens?
@@ekphotography It's listed on Tilta's website that of the 9 stops they recommend not going to the full max 9 stops on anything less than a 35mm lens. Otherwise it's rated for around 6 stops for wider lenses and how much of the X you will see depends on how wide your lens is.
@@LatexFashionTV thanks, I also saw a couple reviews that show a color tinting going on as well.
@@ekphotography Still seems like a cool product. I guess any Variable ND is going to have compromises that comes with ease of use and white balancing before every shot (which is good practice anyway) takes care of any colour tint issues.
What's making me pause is the weight. The actual matte box may be pretty light but the VND filter is 09.lbs/ 409g which is heavier by itself than a lot of lenses I have. It's easier to throw a fixed ND filter in a backpack over adding another nearly half kilogram.
That said when I've used a fixed ND for a while I may yet decide it's worth it for the ease of use lol. Lets see how things shake out this year..
Thanks for the review.
Next challenge... make a video without saying "basically" or "kind" of".
Great review. It's a controversial product tho.
Why would that be?
@@ekphotography If you need an on the go adjustable variable ND filter.
@@PozitiveVibes Hey man, Could you be mor specific.? AS to what you meant. Controversial? I have seen some reports that there is a color shift with this VND. Thanks
Makes rig too heavy
