The thing I love about cine equipment reviews is that no matter how small the channel is, most of them look beautiful, but this video maybe one of the best ones I’ve seen
Awesome review, you did a great job explaning the pros and cons of actual use with this mattebox, I'm sorely tempted to buy one now
I’m hooked on it. Resituated bag so I can keep it on at all times now
B-roll was cleaannn! Basecamp is the best matte box i've used for a reasonable price. Everything else under 1k has shoddy build quality or doesn't come with any filters so it puts you over that 1k mark pretty quickly etc
Yeah it’s a prettt streamlined system! What originally got me interested is the compactness too
Damn, this clean audio does NOT find the windy visuals, haha! Great review!🔥💯
Keep going on you’re making great stuff ✌️
Dope review homie love it.
You are the most genuine you tuber on this platform 🙌 How do you getting clear audio in this condition? Love to hear 👌✅
Thank you man!! Means a lot 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽 and I had the lav tapped to my chest! And jsut made sure to face away from the wind
I think the 3rd stage adaptor and the hard stop filters will work perfectly with this setup.
Just watching your video now (great video btw) and it seems like that PolarPro listenned to all your downsides and fixed it. Literally bought their case that can house up to 8 filters or something and the lens cap that covers the metal ring adapter because I had the same struggles ahah. I was actually looking for reviews of the mist filters as my vnds from polarpro are a lot less strong than their new mist (all 1/4th for the basecamp) and I was wondering if I was the only one with this issue.
I love the style of your videos, never get tired of it!
Anyway, for me, the issues of this mattebox really surpasses the good points, I'm really surprised You like it that much.
Thanks man! And what issues do you have it?
So… What issues?
Def agree with your take on this system. I have it with the second stage and I like it a lot. I too wish they would make some 95mm lens caps. I've been looking for some online but I don't see much of anything that even looks it will stay attached. Also I like the way you guys shot this one. Nice!
What filters are you using with the second stage? I think imma pick up some of the hard NDs
@@cammackey I'm using it with the Mist filter (regular strength not heavy). Haven't had a chance to use it on a project yet but I like what I've seen just playing with it around the house.
Great Review. Im waiting for Basecamp 3rd. They should have new poach for 7 filters in. but not with matte box.
Do you need any extra rings or some adapters to use it on the vazen 40mm?
Love this video! Just picked up the Komodo and am in the process of figuring out what accessories I want to invest in. How would you rank the canon Ef nd adapter against this mat box solution?
Havent used the canon adapter! I only have all RF glass now. But from what I’ve saw it’s a hot garbage on the higher ND levels, really bad color shifts. So I personally wouldn’t bother with it. But breakthrough photography has a better version, but it’s been almost a year now and they’re still nearly shipping them
@@cammackey Thanks! Yeah I've used the canon a little and I'm always having to correct the white balance either in camera or post...thank God for RAW! I'm looking into mat boxes anyway, so the polar pro might be a good option for ND's if im getting one anyway.
Such a backhanded Title😂
love it🖤
Lol not meant to be! Just every review I saw of it was very vague, didn’t really find any thay were actually useful
@@cammackey I am in complete agreement
Dude i have this kit and the stage 3 and yeah totally WTF is with all the cases man, it could have been like $800 cheaper without 3423423 cases lol Cheers bro nice review.
Man legit. Like they could profit even more if they gave us an option to get all the cases or just one case
In terms of lens caps for the large adapter rings, I highly recommend the Zeiss branded push on caps. Way cheaper than the PolarPro rubber ones that don't even stay on and barely fit their own adapters lol
I was looking at those!!
I’ll never figure out how anyone can shoot stills or video content while wearing tinted eyeglasses and then talk about color grading in the same breath. By the way, love your work no matter how the hell you get there. Lol! 😆
Hahaha. Well when shooting outdoors, my WB is locked to 5200 no matter what. Weather I’m shooting raw or not. For fashion stuff outdoors, I will take them off to reference. But our eyes, well our brains really, naturally balance and almost neutralize the fact we’re seeing a tiny. But obviously when I’m indoor shooting or editing I wear my clear prescriptions.
Very curious how you figure out using diopter with the Basecamp system.
Video coming soon! I’m waiting on some extra pieces
any thoughts on kipper tie revolva? none of the variable nd issues & the thought of carrying 7 stops of hard nds sounds rough & costs as much as the revolva.
I only have RF glass. End of thought for me lol. But I would carry 7 stops... I use to only carry around a 3 and 6 stop ND with my past matte boxes. But I’d do it again and get a 2, 4, & 6 stop this time
@@cammackey epic. curious how the solid Polar Pro NDs are for Basecamp...
@@NoahTaher same!! I’m sure I’ll end up buying them eventually haha
awesome video as always!!! You Rock! on which camera did you film your explanation?
i'm curious too
Mostly the Canon R5. The anamorphic shots are with the Red Komodo
I hate variable NDs. Why don’t they have some fixed ones?
They have hard NDs available for the basecamp as well. I believe they’re around $200, which is still a little cheaper than the next affordable option.
That x pattern pretty much talked me out of this thing lol
I was worried this was another paid ad like all the other "reviews". You're the first person to mention the main issue with this system - the lack of hard stops. I've ruined shoots because I didn't have a bright enough monitor to see when you go too far. I wrote them about this but they said there was no solution. I don't understand why...
I'm going to test out if markings will work or not or if changes every time you put in the polarizer.
I feel like it would work! Imma try the same too. I’m assuming it’ll differ depending on the 2-5 and 6-9.. but could jsut use different color markings
@@cammackey I'll let you know what I figure out. Thanks for addressing this issue - no one is talking about it!!
Man, I wouldn't use the 2-5 ND for where you're shooting. It looks like you're shooting around that I-10 corridor going into Palm Springs, and we all know, that out in that desert, the sun is crazy blindingly bright. I'd totally use the 6-9 for such intense light. 2-5 ND would probably work out during the day in LA, but not out there in the desert. I have the Polar Pro Basecamp as well and one of the things like about it is that I can use it for photos as well as video.
Yeah that was my original issue with their VND screw on filter. The freewell and moment 2-5 VNDs look great in comparison. And hmm maybe I’ll try it for photos as well when I do flash!
Nice audio, what lav are you using?
Just the rode lab mic! Wasn't sure how the audio was going to come out. The trick was me facing away from that crazy wind. Lol you can see it shaking everything
@@cammackey It sounds crazy good on your voice. Even in these conditions.
Just got mine, but it pushes way to much sibilance on my voice.
@@ThomasFransson I EQ and compress it! I usually dip it around 400HZ and run a desser. Then compression after that
@@cammackey cool, I guess I can give it a bit more time.
I had to double stack deEssers
I normally don’t need them. Just som Pultec Eq and LA2A comp.
You can get larger filter wallets. I use one that will hold all my 4x5.6 IRND, which is wayyyyy easier.
Where did you get it from? I have some thing coming in thay might work
cammackey Here you go. It's very simple and has everything IRND-wise at the ready. I'm usually rocking a 3-stage, so stacking is a breeze but heavy as hades. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1536001-REG/nisi_nic_p4565_7_pouch_for_7_4.html
@@leoquesto9183 ohhhh idk why I thought you were talking about something else haha. The filter case isn’t the issue. I’m mainly looking for something that will carry EVERYTHING in one compact case. Including the matte box itself
Thanks for looking out tho!! Also, I have that one as well haha!!! I have a bunch of nisi filters and photo filters kits!
cammackey That's funny, recommending the exact pouch you have. Re all-in-one for cam, yeah, a single location for primary cam needs is a goalhere, too, but has actually become more difficult despite all the trial and error. I keep a cam built-out in a large portabrace bag. I actually prefer my large, deep rolling SKB which enables me to keep it built as well, matte box, rails included, almost all but then I have to add the monitor. V-mounts I don't count since it takes a second but it's usually the bag that wins out.
I wish these matte box reviews would actually show before/after or with/without matte box footage. So many of these reviews don't show footage at all, I don't get it.
I’ll have to do another one. I’ve done something similar on older videos tho
@@cammackey Yea that'd be great. Nothing against your video/review personally, I just was frustrated looking across countless of the basecamp "review" videos on youtube and I struggled to find one that actually showed footage from it lol I was going nuts
@@mjm1955 yeah that shit was driving me crazy too. I included footage In this video, but not like before and after a
You should try the zip box pro by wooden camera
I’ve been eyeing the Bright Tangerine Misfit Kick. It’s a great, more robust, option for other filters! Also their one tray kinda gives you a similar setup to the BaseCamp
@@cammackey Holy fuk they are expensive! I need the Neweer version of this if it exists🤣
