      I have a lens with a 86mm filter thread. How can I adapt this to a larger lens? I guess using a step down ring? Yet, not sure about vignetting, because it's a wide angle lens (Tokina 11-20 MFT lens)

    • @JoATTech
      @JoATTech 2 роки тому +1

      @@knobi3760 You can always use rod mount. I haven't seen ring bigger then 82mm for Mirage. Although there might be 3rd party ones.
      I guess stepdown ring would introduce vingetting, if this lens is designed for mft only. If design is for FF or APS-C but just got mft mount, there shouldn't be vignette.

    Thanks for your review. The ability to thread screw-on filters to the mounting rings is brilliant for all the reasons you state. I was considering the Polarpro Basecamp, but this feature alone made the decision a no-brainer. I don't think I'll use the motor feature, but have seen some videos showing interesting uses for it. From the videos I've seen, the Mirage filters have a yellow/green cast, but hopefully that can be mostly dialed out by resetting white balance after installing the ND filter.
    UPDATE 1/2/23: I purchased the Tilta Mirage matte box and like it very much. I ordered it with the VND filter, which works well, but also have two of the Vaxis IRND filters. The IRND filters are somewhat more neutral. The Vaxis filters are very light and affordable, so I'm quite pleased with this system.
    The only drawback to the Mirage mattebox is that lenses wider than 24mm tend to vignette. The Vaxis filters are 95mm, so it seems that Tilta could have made the Mirage less prone to vignetting. Maybe they will address that in an updated version that will hopefully be compatible with the Vaxis system.

    The glass on a 4x5.65 isn't "wasted". It's there for larger format sensors and larger diameter lenses that are 114mm. Many of these smaller, lower budget matte boxes will vignette when on a wider lens with a large format sensor. For example, a camera capable of vista vision.

    • @TaskForceMediaGroup
      @TaskForceMediaGroup  2 роки тому +1

      No doubt, you are 100% correct. However I doubt anyone using large format sensors or professional cinema lenses will be using this matte box. This , as well as the polar pro base camps are a consumer product that can accommodate small independent creators who are just starting out.

    Pretty amazing you can get a vari nd with a motor for $600, thats what sold me on it. And I got it for the cyber monday deal for $509, really looking forward to using that going from inside to outside and vice versa. The Polarpro system looks nice but was going to be like $1500 with all the extras. I'm sure Tilta has more filters but I noticed you can get all 3 mist filters (1/8, 1/4 and 1/2) for less than a single Polarpro Mist filter ($65 each vs $199 each from Polar). And I dont think there is a way to easily motorize the Polarpro vnd.

    Wonderful review! I got the PolarPro Basecamp with both 2-5 and 6-9 stops filters but aiming for this one now, only problem is this doesn't seem to work with Sony 200-600mm 95mm thread, but possible if there was any 95mm to 95mm ring! With a hack it's possible, not sure why the didn't go 114mm. Got an a7S III myself and that separation and need to go back and forth from 2-5 to 6-9 filters and backwards is painful, let alone blue shift accidents.

    • @TaskForceMediaGroup
      @TaskForceMediaGroup  2 роки тому

      I might be wrong, but I think if your lens diameter is 95mm you can clamp the tilta Matte box directly to the lens. I’m pretty sure all the included adapter rings do is bring any other lens diameter up to 95mm.

    • @Bo_Hazem
      @Bo_Hazem 2 роки тому +1

      @@TaskForceMediaGroup Problem is the 200-600mm G lens has an "inner" thread of 95mm, actually with PolarPro Basecamp 95mm to 114mm ring it's as wide as the lens outer diameter, so it's 114mm-ish. Only hack possible is 95mm offset ring, if there are any.

    The wireless motor actually drains the 14500 battery even when it is switched off - Tilta recommends taking out the battery whenever you don’t use the motor. They said they’re trying to fix this "quirk" with a software update in the future. What a disappointment :(

    The title of your video shows, you have no idea, what you are talking about. You are right, Tilta Mirage is a great product and great value for money BUT with two serious limitations: Vignetting with lenses below appr. 22mm with stage 2 filters AND it does not realy support huge lenses with 95mm threat (I know there is an adapter but it causes vignetting as well) AND it does not support 114mm lenses. Both is no problem with PolarPro Basecamp. No vignetting at all and support up to 114mm lenses. For this I use simply both systems, Mirage for smaller lenses up to 82mm diameter and above 22mm focal lenth and Basecamp for lenses under 22mm and diameters above 82mm. Mirage mainly for traveling, Basecamp mainly for commercial jobs with clients due to its much more professional appearence and flexibillity.
