    Hey Ray. Another FX3 user here (with the same cage). I still love your work. The videos you make are great content, which would deserves more audience. It's 2am now in Marrakesh and I am still in front of my laptop watching your content. I will write several questions about the Tilta Mirage very soon :) :) :)

      I highly appreciate it. I took a little break from posting on UA-cam due to how many freelance jobs I've been on lately This is 9 day of shooting in a row. I have been taking all kindd of new gear with me to review, and the FX3 has been with me on every shoot. So lots of content coming very soon! As soon as I get the chance to edit all this footage!!! Thanks again for watching.

    Waw, man, this is by far the best and most complete review of the Mirage out there. THANK YOU for flagging the filter tray tunneling on wide angles... I shoot A LOT with the 16-35.. so i's kind of an issue.. Again thanks for honestly mentioning this. Cheers from an FX3 user. 🙌🏼

    • @RayValencia

      Hey SuperJeanMarc! FX3 bros, Let's go! Yeah man I had to mention the tunneling and vignetting, and it really shocked me that nobody else is talking about it. Sugar coaters, lol. I'm always nice about flaws in products, because that's my nature, but I always blow some kind of whistle in my reviews, lol.

      @@RayValencia Shocked really ? :) That's the World we live in... Affiliate links, undercover sponsors or just fear of closing to doors to brands.. that enough to avoid honest reviews. Well at least you gained a follower and all my respect :) Cheers.

      @@Superjeanmarc I am guilty of the affiliate links and getting sent tons of gear lately too... so please keep me HONEST! 🙏🏼 Tilta comments on my Tilta videos so I know they’ve seen it, but they haven't reached out to me directly yet. Although, Vaxis just shipped me some more 95mm filters to add to the 3 filters I purchased for this matte box. So be on the lookout for that video soon. Anything you wanna know about it that I didn't cover in this video?

    • @Superjeanmarc
      @Superjeanmarc 2 роки тому

      @@RayValencia Yeah, well of course, affiliate links are not a problem in itself, but sadly, the only way to get honest reviews (and replies to comments by the way ;) is by checking out accounts like yours, with "few" subscribers. And I'm not saying this in a bad way, I always look for modest accounts to get the best reviews.
      Once they reach a certain amount of subs...UA-camrs always end up corrupted by the system, always. Capitalism bro, no way out of it.

    Just got this mattebox. LOVE IT. Glad you addressed the 16mm and 24mm lens vignetting and filter tray tunneling. I'll rarely go below 24mm, but it's nice to know what I should expect. Subscribed.

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  2 роки тому

      Thanks, Jack! I know companies probably cringe whenever I do that in my videos, but I like to let people know what they are getting into. I am just absolutely blown away how many people make videos on this system and DO NOT mention the wide angle vignetting and tunneling. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but people don't even mention it.

      @@RayValencia I happened to also notice the lines in the streak filter from vaxxis are notice on a too wide lens, or at least at a certain aputure. I'd need to be very cautious to avoid that, but such is on wide focal lengths. Once you know how to go about it you can work within those circumstances.

    seems like it's kinda designed for Super35 with that serious vignette. Wish they came out with a slightly bigger one just to eliminate that completely. Seems a pretty good system other than that

    Thanks for the video! This is the only video that shows the vignetting issues with the matte box. I'm using a 28mm Canon FD prime. Do you think that will be a problem?

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  2 роки тому

      Hey Jeffrey. Thanks. The vignetting is not a fun topic for sure...I can't believe no one else has mentioned it. Although, with Prime lenses you should be good. Especially anything tighter than 24mm (like your 28mm). When you start getting into 20mm and wider it starts showing up. But like I mentioned, sometimes your Stabilization mode can crop past it too.

    I was thinking to buy this Matte Box but was really worried about vignetting. For 16-35mm vignetting as the video shows, is it from the Matte Box? or ND stops?
    And also I heard there will be vignetting once go over 5 stops. I'm wondering what If I use a prime lens 1.4 or 1.2 with s-log? I believe it sometimes needs to go over 5 stops but then there might be vignetting. Am I right? in that case, I need to think about Polarpro Matte Box hmmmn

    Awesome video! We also live in Tampa, so dope seeing you in all of these spots that I know exactly where they are haha. Question! The tilta focus wheel paired with the nd motor. Is there any way to mount that wooden focus wheel to a handheld rig/cage itself? Or does it have to be mounted to the side of a ronin? Thanks!

      @RayValencia  2 роки тому

      Awesome MSM! Thanks. I'll be in Tampa tomorrow night working for NFL Films, Chiefs vs Bucs. Yes, this Nucleus kit comes with a Quick Release for any cage. Then I added on an additional SmallRig quick release for the Ronin. I have 3 other videos all about the Tilta Nucleus if you're interested. Hello!
    Would like to ask could I use the mattebox with an 18mm lens, couple with the circular VND and 4x5 filter (Without the stackable filter tray), will it work? Since it doesn't extend the length of the matte box! Also are there better vnd options out there? Am looking to purchase a Sony 16-35mm lens! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • @MarineX

    So this would work on my 28-135? I bought that lens after watching your video.

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  2 роки тому

      Awesome, great lens. Unfortunately, No. I tried that combo, but the 28-135mm isn't a standard Cinema size 95mm. Instead the lens has a 95mm screw on filter thread, but the actual lens is too thick for this matte box to clamp on. You'd have to use the 15mm Rod attachment for the matte box. This is what I also do for the 14-24mm that doesn't have any filter threads.

      @@RayValencia wait, 14-24? How do you use that lens without the vignette issue? I have that lens from Sigma and have to use rear ND filters.

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  2 роки тому

      @@timriese Yes, I have the rear lens filters for the 14-24mm. 2 videos about those and how to make your own rear filters, lol. But it works on 15mm rails with a 4x5.65 filter. Check my SmallRig Cine ND filters video for those affordable filters: ua-cam.com/video/8hdn4mq6YjM/v-deo.html

    • @timriese
      @timriese 2 роки тому

      @@RayValencia That's good to know that you can use a front filter with the 14-24 and the matte box in that configuration. I was all about to go for the mirage but I'm worried about the variND cross pattern showing up. Other reviews make it seem to appear at about 5 stops of ND. Not a problem if you are shooting at 100ISO but I have clients that like to shot S-log, and the fx3 native on that is 640. To avoid cross pattern I would need to start with a 4x5.65 .6 or .9 on the front and then add the variND behind it so I don't have to dial it in that much...but then I'm going through three pieces of glass. Maybe best to stick with my freewell 6-9 stop variND...I would like to use the matte box too though. Not sure if my fingers are going to be able to spin the freewell if the matte box is attached...

    Hi! great review! Is it possible to put a lens cap into the adapter rings? So I can store multiple lens with their adapter already plugged (and with a lens cap on in)

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  2 роки тому

      Thanks!! That is a great question that I didn't think about including. Yes, you can use your existing caps with your Tilta Adapters on them. I leave them on the lenses too.

    Can you rotate the filter manual with hand instead of using a motor ?

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, no problem at all! But if you try to turn it with your finger while on the gimbal it will shake the lens. The motor is a smooth way to do it.

    It is compartible with the sonny alfa 7 iii?

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  8 місяців тому

      Yes, all cameras. It's certain wide angle lenses you have to worry about. It comes with 4 threaded adapters. If your lenses aren't the correct size, you'll need to use step up rings, or order additional adapters from Tilta.

    Excellent video, this definitely should have more traction than it does. Thanks for showing how it actually works all I could find was hype. The 95mm limit is a draw back though, it’s too bad because it’s a super nice set up. Might buy it anyway

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Thats alright! Just a small creator over here having fun. Yeah, 95mm maxed out, no 114mm, but it would have to a good bit larger to accommodate that sized lens. It gets chunkier with the added on Filter Tray too, but still great for gimbal work!

    Why not get an FX6 instead? It has built in ND and you need to rig it out way less, probably would end up weighing the same as your rig.

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  2 роки тому +2

      Different tools. I pre-ordered the FX3. It's great to use on a gimbal for an 8 hour shoot. The FX6 has been nearly impossible to find, but I still may get one this year! I've rented an FX6 for a TV commercial, and it was great.. but Trust me, this matte box is Super Lightweight, and even with it, still doesn't weigh anywhere near what an FX6 weighs. Plus the FX6 has no IBIS, and No Mic jack when on a gimbal.
