I was on my own adventure through Colorado, Utah, and Arizona last summer so I didn't keep up with your videos, and just now managed to finish your Adventures in Alaska series. What an amazing trip. I visited some of these same places in 2009 and it was so much fun to see them more than a decade later, and you added many new places to my must-do list if I ever get back there. How cool! We love all those states too! We hope you had a super trip Alaska was such a dream! It was everything we hoped it would be and so much more. We can't wait to go back! Thanks so much, Michael!

YES!!! This is the video I was waiting for! Now that I've had two months to think back on my time in Alaska, Wrangell-St. Elias and the whole area around it sticks out as my favorite region. I loved every minute I spent there. Highlights for me: 1) watching older rangers at the visitor's center who once opposed the founding of the park in 1980, now helping people enjoy it, 2) the Meatza Wagon salmon BLTs (yum!), 3) managing to drive a Hyundai Elantra in and out on the McCarthy Road (like y'all said, it wasn't that bad), 4) going on the mill tour and seeing all the equipment left over from the 1930s, 5) the Blue Pool on Root Glacier, and watching people plunge into it, and 6) the Gakona Lodge just north of Glenallen where you don't get a room key when you stay there because they don't lock doors around there! (And why should they?) The whole area is super special. Out of your 14 Alaska episodes, I think I overlapped with a good chunk of 8 of them, which is not too shabby for 10 days in the state. Thank you for helping me relive it - and plan what to do next time!
We are constantly impressed by how much you squeezed into your trip! You crushed it! It's mind blowing how much you did in 10 days. Just the driving takes so long! We wish we could've seen the Blue Pool and mayyybe jumped in (probably not) 😂 We'll try the Meatza Wagon next time! We're glad we can share our adventures and you can relive yours! What an epic place Alaska is!

I follow you guys and your adventures and love all that you do. I especially loved your trip to Alaska. We are using so many of your suggestions for hikes, coffee shops and restaurants, as we head to the Kenia peninsula and Wrangle St.Elias. We leave Memorial Weekend for 2weeks and can hardly wait. We don’t have a van but we are camping and staying in a couple B&B’s. Thank you for ALL your hard work that you put into these videos and the research you do. We are in our 60’s - young at heart and in good shape, esp for our age. Watching you and all your adventures has inspired us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Been here for 5 years and Kennicott is hands down my favorite place (so far 😉). When we went in 2018 the road was so bad we rarely could go over 20mph and it made the drive take way longer than it should 😅 it was kind of a spur of the moment decision to go so we also had no idea what we were doing and were not prepared at all if anything bad had happened. Really glad to see that the road is better! Hoping to go back soon! ❤
Those snowy mountain views when you woke up the next morning were stunning!!! By far my favorite (again)! Another variety show of nature that just keeps going and going! Love it!!! Kona is a cutie pie! I would love the mining town and spotting a bear on the trail, yikes!!!! What a lovely area of the 🇺🇸! Great work you two!!!
Wow…all the different looking mountains…walking on the glacier…how cool…the mining town…super cool…the food…especially the fries 😋…that campsite…just WOW to everything! Oh and I cannot forget your songs! I’m so happy Konie got to go with you! Great video! Keep traveling safe 😘❤️❤️❤️🐶🥰
The park had such a varied landscape. There is so much to see there...especially since its the largest of them all! The song was too much fun! 😂 You would really like the fries! Kona had a blast out there too! 💗
Fantastic video! Love waking up to the snowy mountains when camping. They look like a postcard. Something I would definitely have fun painting. The mining history of the place is really interesting. Thanks for taking us along! As always, be safe and God bless you!❤️
Wife and I have been eagerly following your adventure to Alaska ever since you posted about our home town of Silver City New Mexico. We each rode our own motorcycles, Harley Touring Bikes, with our little dog Clyde riding along, all the way up the Al-Can to Fairbanks and down to Anchorage this summer ourselves. Seems we were just a couple weeks ahead of you on the road. We thoroughly enjoy your videos, you two come across as so genuine and seem to be really enjoying the trips. We wish you two the absolute best and will be following along on whatever trips you take next. Thank you for posting such entertaining content. E&R
The Kennecot Mines were awesome to see. Certainly one of the images that comes to mind when I hear Alaska. I really felt for you guys with the bear sighting, one thing when you're in a car, or you're not caught off guard, and even more scary when you're not sure if it was a black brown bear or a grizz! Kona did well not to freak out over it! 🙌 Much like you guys, I was loving the footage of all the local dogs, but that black, brown and white one when you started eating was stunning!!! Really liked this getting see hiking trails through mines. Hiking with history sewn in and always pretty awesome!
Thankfully Kona never saw the bear! There were so many sweet doggos in McCarthy! We love that too! The beauty of nature is always excellent, but having some history in there as well makes it even better!
Incredible glaziers, your camping location was beautiful all around. The old mining town is really cool. I don't know how you aren't freezing. Safe travels and as always, thank you. 🌻🥰🐕🇺🇸
Beautiful! Amazing! Stunning! I could go on. And...love how you 2 seem to find more good food in cool places in the middle of nowhere than I find living in a major metro city.
I was working and living in Kennicott this past summer season, I am so bummed I didn’t run into you guys!!! So cool to see you guys around my whereabouts. I am happy to see that you were inspired by the beauty of the valley as well. Best wishes!
What a way to end your time in Alaska! 48 parks...way to go! We have only made it to 41, with 41 being the Great Smoky Mountains this spring. Looking forward to your adventures home. Seriously, such a fantastic trip!! So happy you guys were able to do this this trip 💖
Yes that was a great way to end the trip! We did a ton of fun things on the way back. Can't wait to share! Alaska was everything we dreamed of and more!
I loved every minute of this. Beautiful scenery. The green in that rock was pretty. Amazing seeing items from the past laid out exposed to the elements like that. I liked seeing the old post office, the old general store. Once a booming town, now lays quiet, almost empty. I'm glad the locals are preserving the buildings to share with the next generations to follow. I liked the restaurant you ate at. Spudniks sounded interesting. Curly fries with garlic & Rosemary sounded good too. I've never had that combination, but, may try it. You had some very cute dinner guests show up while eating. I often wandered how anyone could sleep in a tent comfortably with bears roaming around. I'm so glad no bears bothered you. I loved the ending. Funny. Have a good week.
We thought it was really neat that they left all those artifacts up there and that they were laid out like that! It seems the park and locals take really great care of the area. It's always a relief when you wake up in bear country and say to yourself "I didn't get eaten!" 😂 Thanks, Kimberly!
Thanks for the Alaska Adventure. I've never been to Alaska and I enjoyed being with the 3 of you. As always, your videos are entertaining from start to finish. I couldn't imagine constructing the mines and living in the harsh winter months. N.E. OHIO is harsh enough for me. 👍👍🏍🏍🏍🙋♂️
Those snow covered mountains were amazing! As always, great video guys. Thanks for sharing. Now back to work at my desk. In the basement. On a rainy day.... 😁
The shots at 17:10~ were incredible! Excellent tip on the dogs in the town. Alaskan tourism board should hire you guys! Always love the bloops. Great video guys! ~Cara 😊
Wrangler Elias and Kennecott have been on my to do list for a long time. We hope to visit Alaska in a couple of years. Thanks for all the great tips. Following you on AllTrails and looking forward to seeing your next adventures on video.
Almost went back this year, I was there over the 4th last year! Optimum weather, a little hot. This year I’m returning to Cordova! For the 4th, taking off from Valdez and returning to Whittier.
2.5 months in Alaska, how lucky are you? Wow look at that Burrito! You guys looked famished, LOL. So glad you don't sing during your videos.....Another beautiful video. Safe travels.
I've been following you for over a year, now I watch as soon as you post! You guys are awesome and you do such a great job showing us your travels and telling the story as you go. Great filming, especially your drone footage! I traveled a lot when I was younger, camping with my parents in many of the great State & National parks in a '61 Corvair van that my dad outfitted into a camper. I'm in a wheelchair now so I appreciate you sharing your travels. You are a very sweet coup!e! Kat >"
I'm sad your Alaska trip is over, but I'm looking forward to your next adventure! The copper is so pretty!😍So crazy that y'all saw a bear! I loved seeing all of the dogs.😄
Wow! Beautiful area! I hate to see your Alaskan adventures come to a end! But I have thoroughly enjoyed this series! I would love to see y’all do Glacier Bay next trip! I’ve been but only on a cruise ship. Safe travels on your way back to the lower 48! Y’all have really had a adventure this year! Not sure how you will top this trip! But I know you will!
So glad you guys did not have an issue with the bear. Your videos are incredible. There is sio much to learn from how you craft your videos. When we were visiting with the Park Rangers in Denali, they told us generally bears and moose will avoid humans. The one thing that will change that is a dog. Bears and Moose think all dogs are wolves. I asked is that true for a 3lb Biewer Terrier and 8lb Maltese and the ranger said to the bear and moose, they see them as wolves. Bear and moose usually will attack a lone "wolf". We know that that we are more informed now for when we will take our two dogs out with us when you head to Alaska in 2024. I am not trying to scare you, I am trying to share the knowledge we learned on our two week scouting trip October 2022.
A land of superlatives. Really loved the glacier. Any and all at this point are bucketlist. Glad you survived a bear. We had a 20 foot encounter with one in the Smokies a few years ago. We were making much more noise than you 😆😆😆. Safe travels back
I do not want your adventures to end. LOL I remember on Discovery Channel, I think, they had a series called McCarthy, and I was so fascinated by the town. I looked at your video and did remember some of the buildings they showed. I loved this video, I think it was one of your best, but all of them were so good. I loved seeing the old mine, so interesting to see the way life used to be many years ago. The scenery was so beautiful. I was wondering when you would see a BEAR. It really looked like a great place for bears to be. I am glad that the bear did not bother yall. I have watched yall since you left Texas, and loved every single one of you video. Yall have had an adventure of a lifetime that so many would love to do. You have seen some amazing places, and you can ride by places, but you really need to hike to see the amazing beautiful places. The waterfalls were so beautiful. Thank you for sharing, yall be safe, take care.
We need to check out some of the shows about McCarthy. It is such an interesting place! We're glad we didn't see many bears on the trail, but would have loved to seen more from the van! Thanks for watching our journey! We totally agree that to really see a place you've got to get out and explore on your feet!
thanks for all the videos! We also travel with our dog and thought I would share, we use these shoes called WagWellies and they are amazing! All different kinds for summer and winter. We have hiked up to 10 miles in the summer and her paws were perfect. Just thought I would share.
Those mountains were just jaw dropping even after seeing all the others. Really a great trip you guys did and awesome video along the whole way. I was wondering how you were doing since western Alaska got hit with a heavy storm. Funny thing about that storm, a ship lost over 100 containers at sea and thousands of Yeti coolers are showing up along the shoreline all the way down to Vancouver Island. People have been going Yeti hunting along the shores and picking up a few of those.
I hope I can see this video earlier. I just come back from Alaska last week and it was the last weekend when the visitor center is opened for the season. I drove about ten miles and back from the Richardson Highway since our rental car is not allowed to drive all the way to McCarthy. But the view is still so beautiful that I decided I will go back in the near future...maybe in 2025 when the road in the Denali National Park is also repaired too.
This was a place I saw on a map while planning my first trip to Alaska and knew I had to go. About as remote as you can get but still make without a plane. I did a lot of planning. What I did not find out until it was too late was that Alaska starts closing down in mid Sept. Our VRBO didn't pan out. We stayed at Blackburn Cabins and they picked us up at the footbridge. We hiked to Kennecott and onto Root Glacier. It was quite an adventure! I very much want to go back and spend more time. And get up into the air and see the park by plane!
Ya I can believe that about things winding down in September. Kennecott was really awesome. The mine area and glacier were so much fun! We'd love to see it from the air as well! Thanks for watching
How exciting and scary at the same time!! Especially with Kona!! Beautiful views as usual, not sure if you could get a bad view in Alaska.......maybe when it's socked in : ( . We used to watch a show on TV that was about McCarthy and how half of the towns people didn't want to open the mine because they came to that area to get away from people and the other half wanted to bring them in for commercial profit. Interesting!
It was a nervous moment! That's right...the only bad views are when there aren't any! I think another commenter mentioned that show. We'll have to check it out!
Maybe it wasn’t a bear. Maybe it was…..drum roll… Sasquatch !😮😂 BTW, for us bore night shift workers, showing all that good food is pure torture! Maybe you could pretend it is barely passable😢 😂 Great, beautiful vids to enjoy vicariously - thanks!
I was in that area like a year before you had to paid to go into the mine, I was with a small group ariund Alaska we stayvat thevHotel in McCarthy and had breakfast the next morning at the Redt. Across from the hotel, we walk to Kennickot mine and it did not look like that, we went up I think 1 or 2 year after it became very touristic the building next to the mine it had all the residue from the earthquake they had a few years before also had all the paper signe fro m the people, then we went up to the glacier and walk some....it is one of my favorites places in Alaska.....glad you like it enjoy and stay safe....( we did not see any bear)
This was a beautiful video. If I travel, there I wouldn't be able to hike. Love seeing all the scenery. In the beginning you said there was a shuttle. Are dogs allowed on the shuttle?
A great thing about Alaska is there is almost always incredible scenery just from the road. You can see mountains, rivers, forest, and many glaciers just driving from place to place! Dogs are allowed on the shuttles to and from Kennecott...we learned this as soon as we got back 😂
what wonderful way to end a Alaskan journey, great video. Next time you're there take the mine tour well worth it. I do have a question, we were there in 2015 is the pizza bus still there?
Great Vid, as always! Please consider in the future (when in Bear country) the lead hiker should be walking point, without the dog. In a bear encounter the leashed dog will go “wack” and encumber your ability to defend (bear spray, etc.) The probability is that your dog will also get sprayed. Your partner in the rear (hopefully with the leashed dog) will be your back up with a second bear spray at the ready. Just some friendly advice😊
Excellent video! There was a tv show on the Discovery channel called The Edge of Alaska. Was about the people that live in McCarthy. Check it out sometime when you’re back in the lower 48 👍❤️😄
She likely would've been fine walking on her paws. It's plenty coarse enough. And microspikes are ABSOLUTELY FINE to use to walk about on Root Glacier. We got them at an REI in Fairbanks and it was perfect.
really enjoyed this video, guys. Well done! What is the area in the extreme north east portion of Alaska called? I got confused. i thought Wrangell/St Elias was up there.
Glad you didn't have a close up bear encounter. Park Junkie did in one video, its scary to watch. Good to make noise but not to the point of upsetting it.
About 3 miles. This guide we wrote on our website covers just about everything you need to know 😀 adventuresofaplusk.com/root-glacier-trail-in-wrangell-st-elias-national-park/
I have to admit I am kind of sad seeing you leaving Alaska. I've really enjoyed your roughly 15 episodes. Did I understand correctly that you only saw 2 bears the entire time that you were there? Remember to read James Michener's book Alaska when you get back home and have some free time.
We were bummed to leave Alaska as well! We have some really fun adventures to share soon though! Yes, we only saw 2 bears in Alaska! That was the only let down I did listen to a bit of the audio book. It is a really long book so I'll have to check it out a few times I think! But what I did hear was really good! I like how he shares facts throughout!
There wasn't a permit process required for UA-cam back when we filmed our previous national park videos, but moving forward we will go through the permit process if we choose to film one.
It looks like the road to the Kennicott area in Wrangell Nat. Park would not be friendly toward a truck towing a 31' trailer. I did not see any such rigs in the campground/aka parking lot. Am I correct that we should not attempt to take our rig back there? Also, did you meet a lot of vehicles coming out of the area on what looks like a glorified one-lane road?
We didn't see very many travel trailers on the road. I'm sure it's doable, but not sure its recommended. You could call Basecamp Kennicott (the campground/parking lot at the end of the road) and see what they have to say. They might have some advice on where you could leave your trailer. There is a campground on the Edgerton called Kenny Lake Mercantile that you could get a spot at then drive the road. There was a decent amount of traffic on the road in and out and lots of people at the end of the road! I apologize for the delay again. I hope that helps!
My original jet boil has markings for Oz and mil inside the cup. Does your guys cup not have inside markings? It doesn't always work still with some, like backpacker pantry don't fully rehydrate with the amount it says.
The bear sighting must have been super scary.😰 It's the one thing I worry about. Until I can find someone to go hiking with, I won't do long remote hikes.
Not sure why you decreased the air pressure in the tires. Initially you might get a smoother ride but increased flexing can actually cause heat and pressure build up. Also, any deviation from recommended pressure changes the amount of contact you have with the road and can affect both braking and steering. Just concerned about your safety. Cheers from an old tire dealer.
I drive well under the speed limit so from my understanding that doesn't create as much heat or pressure in the tires and makes any affects on braking and steering negligible. Wouldn't airing down the tires create more surface contact because the tires would widen a bit? I read that it was a good idea to lower the pressure because it would be a smoother ride and the tires would have less pressure and could "absorb" the pressure of sharp, pointy rocks and lower the chance of a puncture. I do notice a smoother ride when tires are aired down. I am by no means an expert. I just go off of what I have read. I usually keep our front tires at 45-50 psi and the rears at 60-65 psi.
@@AdventuresofAplusK When a tire is overinflated it takes on a convex shape and wears more in the middle of the tread. When a tire is underinflated it takes on a concave shape and wears more on the edges of the tread. When the tire is inflated to the manufacturer's specified pressure then the tread makes maximum and even contact with the road. Given how little, in terms of square inches is in contact at any given time, you want maximum contact for braking and steering. Also, proper inflation prevents any deformation of the tread pattern and that's necessary to prevent hydroplaning in really rainy conditions. Anyhow, please stay safe as we approach the time of sudden seasonal changes. Sure do enjoy your adventures.

That is so awesome to hear! Your comment means a lot to us! Thank you and thanks for watching! ❤️
Such an amazing, epic adventure. Thanks for taking us along! Alaska is as rugged as it is beautiful.
Wrangell was an epic park!
29:06 You got to meet Hercules! We miss him already 😢 Another amazing video as always!
Sweet doggo! Thank you!
We were thankful the road wasn't too bad! It's an awesome area and we can't wait to go back one day!
Ugh I loved this Alaskan adventure ❤!! Thanks for bringing us along.
Thank you and thanks for watching!
It’s hard to beat waking up to snowy mountains! Thanks, Karen!
It’s hard to beat waking up to snowy mountains! Thanks, Karen!
What amazing adventures in Alaska!!! Thank you for sharing your journey 🙏😌💕
Thanks and thanks for watching!
As always, be safe and God bless you!❤️
That park is so incredible! It is hard to beat waking up to snowy mountains! Thanks and thanks for watching!
E&R
We loved Silver City! That is one our highlights of the year!
Thank you so much for your comment! That means a lot to us! Thanks for watching
I'm always glad when I see a new post! Enjoy u guys! God bless!
Thank you so much for watching!
As someone who frequently visits New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia, it's awesome to see those mining buildings in Alaska.
New River Gorge is awesome! We need to go back there and explore it more!
Love the "ambiance" of the saw in the background at the Potato; very Alaskan! Another great video!
Thank you!
I'm pretty sure the stunning dog you referenced is a Bernese Mountain dog. They are gorgeous.
Incredible glaziers, your camping location was beautiful all around. The old mining town is really cool. I don't know how you aren't freezing. Safe travels and as always, thank you. 🌻🥰🐕🇺🇸
That was an epic campsite! Kennecott was a blast to explore! Thankfully it wasn't too cold surprisingly!
Beautiful! Amazing! Stunning! I could go on. And...love how you 2 seem to find more good food in cool places in the middle of nowhere than I find living in a major metro city.
Food is a big reason why we travel! Thanks, Jim!
Excellent series. It's always good when you don't get eaten by a bear on the trail. Thanks for sharing.
Yes not getting eaten was a huge highlight! 😂
I was working and living in Kennicott this past summer season, I am so bummed I didn’t run into you guys!!! So cool to see you guys around my whereabouts. I am happy to see that you were inspired by the beauty of the valley as well. Best wishes!
That would've been so cool! We are in love with Alaska and miss it so much!
Have been enjoying following your journey. Great content, great filming. You guys are great.
What an awesome day . Love the glaciers
We can't get enough glaciers!
It's always a relief when you wake up in bear country and say to yourself "I didn't get eaten!" 😂
Thanks, Kimberly!
U guys are so funny! Love it!😍 Beautiful, Amazing & awesome! Thanks for all the videos! ❤❤❤
Thanks, Dawn!
NOOO! I’m sad to see your Alaska adventures come to an end. Looking forward to seeing what you have planned next.
We were bummed to leave, but we have tons of fun adventures to share from the way back down!
Have followed your trip all the way thru. Loved it all!!!!
Thanks for sticking with us!
Wow! You ended this part of the drive on a real high note!
It was incredible!
Yes it was nice during our visit in the summer, but the winter would be a whole other story! Thanks, John!
Those snow covered mountains were amazing! As always, great video guys. Thanks for sharing. Now back to work at my desk. In the basement. On a rainy day.... 😁
We're glad we could supply you with some Alaska adventure during your work day!
The shots at 17:10~ were incredible! Excellent tip on the dogs in the town. Alaskan tourism board should hire you guys! Always love the bloops. Great video guys! ~Cara 😊
Thanks! We contacted them, but it was too late as they had already spent their budget. Maybe next trip!
wow 2 and a half months flew by. thanks for your Alaskan adventures
Yes it did!
Sad to see the ending of your Alaska series but excited to see what is coming next!
We were bummed to leave but we went out with a bang and the next few videos will be pretty epic!
Wrangler Elias and Kennecott have been on my to do list for a long time. We hope to visit Alaska in a couple of years. Thanks for all the great tips. Following you on AllTrails and looking forward to seeing your next adventures on video.
It is definitely a must visit! Thank you following along!
Almost went back this year, I was there over the 4th last year! Optimum weather, a little hot. This year I’m returning to Cordova! For the 4th, taking off from Valdez and returning to Whittier.
Sorry to see you leave Alaska but we know that many super adventures will be coming!!!
We were bummed, but lots of fun stuff coming up!
With no chance of making it up there, thanks for the awesome vids of what you are experiencing.
We're lucky and grateful we get to do what we do! Thanks and thanks for watching!
2.5 months in Alaska, how lucky are you? Wow look at that Burrito! You guys looked famished, LOL. So glad you don't sing during your videos.....Another beautiful video. Safe travels.
It was everything we hoped it would be and so much more! Thanks for watching!
Kat >"
That's awesome! Thank you so much for watching! We're thankful we get to do what we do and can share it for others to enjoy!
I'm sad your Alaska trip is over, but I'm looking forward to your next adventure! The copper is so pretty!😍So crazy that y'all saw a bear! I loved seeing all of the dogs.😄
We were bummed to leave! It was everything we hoped for and more! The dogs and the bear (as scary as it was) were a huge highlight!
We were bummed to leave Alaska, but it was a dream trip! We did some pretty adventurous stuff on the way back! Thanks for watching!
I love my Therm-a-rest!! Wonderful video =] hope you guys are having an excellent time!
It was a blast! Thanks!
Awesome! As usual. You rock! ❤
Thank you!
Great Alaska adventures!
Beautiful video 📸. Safe travels!!!
Thank you!
Hi guys! Such a great video. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks and thanks for watching!
A land of superlatives. Really loved the glacier. Any and all at this point are bucketlist. Glad you survived a bear. We had a 20 foot encounter with one in the Smokies a few years ago. We were making much more noise than you 😆😆😆. Safe travels back
It really is a land of superlatives!
Wow! Thankfully we haven't had any negative encounters!
Thank you!
Walking on a glacier sounds 🆒 😅
Indeed it was!
@@AdventuresofAplusK have you guys considered hiking to the top of mt hood or St Helen’s and talk to Bigfoot? What a show
I do not want your adventures to end.
Great, now you 2 have me wanting to go to Alaska!, not that I didn't already.
That’s our goal!
thanks for all the videos! We also travel with our dog and thought I would share, we use these shoes called WagWellies and they are amazing! All different kinds for summer and winter. We have hiked up to 10 miles in the summer and her paws were perfect. Just thought I would share.
We’ll look into those! Not sure how Kona would like wearing shoes, but it’s worth a look! Thank you!
We were long gone from Alaska by the time the storm showed up. Well at least that's a small consolation for the destruction it caused!
Love this video.
Oh wow! We hope you had a great trip!
More awesomeness from Alaska. We're all sad that it's coming to an end. Was that a three legged dog at the potatoe?
We were bummed to leave as well! That was a tripod dog! Good eye!
Just hit the thumbs up button, and I haven't even watched the video yet! I know I'm going to like it, so time to watch...
Woohoo! Thanks!
Hello. Thanks for the advices. Nice video.
What month did you make it there?
Great dog content! Sorry you are leaving Alaska but looking forward to whats coming
The dogs were a treat!
Maybe it wasn’t a bear. Maybe it was…..drum roll… Sasquatch !😮😂
BTW, for us bore night shift workers, showing all that good food is pure torture! Maybe you could pretend it is barely passable😢 😂
Great, beautiful vids to enjoy vicariously - thanks!
haha thanks and thanks for watching!
Cool! It’s an amazing area!
We would’ve loved to do the tour, but couldn’t with our dog. I don’t remember seeing a pizza bus. Thanks for watching!
We took the same route with Neil Darrish. An awesome experience
Awesome!
Lmao the song at the end... 😂
I enjoyed your Alaska adventures. It sure seemed like wintertime the 2 months of summer you were there however.
Thanks! It was a pretty rainy summer! One of the rainiest in a long time
I just got an add about,’Beyond Van Gogh,’ in Anchorage,Alaska. That would be an experience, too.
Sounds fun!
Thank you!
Your welcome 😀
Excellent video! There was a tv show on the Discovery channel called The Edge of Alaska. Was about the people that live in McCarthy. Check it out sometime when you’re back in the lower 48 👍❤️😄
We'll have to check that out! Thanks!
She likely would've been fine walking on her paws. It's plenty coarse enough. And microspikes are ABSOLUTELY FINE to use to walk about on Root Glacier. We got them at an REI in Fairbanks and it was perfect.
Kona pulls sometimes and we just felt safer leaving her behind
We used micro spikes and they worked great!
really enjoyed this video, guys. Well done! What is the area in the extreme north east portion of Alaska called? I got confused. i thought Wrangell/St Elias was up there.
I’m not sure what the area is called. Wrangell is in the southeast of the main part of the state. Thanks and thanks for watching!
Glad you didn't have a close up bear encounter. Park Junkie did in one video, its scary to watch. Good to make noise but not to the point of upsetting it.
Yes we are glad he kept walking as well!
Great stuff as always! Just curious, did you have to use the portable gas tanks at all during your trips?
We didn’t have to use them once 😂 oh well, better safe than sorry!
Your video is a BONANZA!!!!
Wahoo!
How far is it from Kenicott to the Root Glacier? I'll be there in early June and would like to do some hiking.
About 3 miles. This guide we wrote on our website covers just about everything you need to know 😀
adventuresofaplusk.com/root-glacier-trail-in-wrangell-st-elias-national-park/
I have to admit I am kind of sad seeing you leaving Alaska. I've really enjoyed your roughly 15 episodes. Did I understand correctly that you only saw 2 bears the entire time that you were there? Remember to read James Michener's book Alaska when you get back home and have some free time.
We were bummed to leave Alaska as well! We have some really fun adventures to share soon though!
Yes, we only saw 2 bears in Alaska! That was the only let down
I did listen to a bit of the audio book. It is a really long book so I'll have to check it out a few times I think! But what I did hear was really good! I like how he shares facts throughout!
Wouldn't you know, the last day of hiking and a bear shows up. LOL.
Just in time!
I let the air out of my tires, yea i;m riding low. The bumps were a hazard so i had to take it slow. :-)
hahaahaha yup! That's exactly it!
Was wondering if you go through the permit processes for filming in National Parks or how you can film these amazing places?
There wasn't a permit process required for UA-cam back when we filmed our previous national park videos, but moving forward we will go through the permit process if we choose to film one.
So what do you feed Koda on the trek? Love the videos!
We bring her dehydrated dog food she always eats. Honest Kitchen dehydrated dog food. It’s actually really perfect for backpacking…just add water!
Are you going to make it to the Arctic Circle?
Stay tuned! 😊
The kettle we use does not have any markings on it. I should add some!
@@AdventuresofAplusK oh man that stinks, definitely should just to have. Love your guys youtube!
Just wondering...How many days have you been on the road for this adventure? Got to be taking a toll on you both, right?
We left Texas in January and we were in Alaska for 2.5 months!
❤️
The bear sighting must have been super scary.😰 It's the one thing I worry about. Until I can find someone to go hiking with, I won't do long remote hikes.
Yes when Kathryn flew back to Texas from Alaska for a few days I didn't go hiking alone at all. I know some people do, but I didn't feel safe doing it
@@AdventuresofAplusK agreed! I gotta buy a gun before I will go by myself.
For some reason this episode had a problem cut out on my tv 😢 here in U.K. had to watch on tablet, first time ever had a problem anyone else ?
Hmm....that's a bummer. That's the first we heard of that issue. I hope it clears up. Thanks for watching!
Good to know. Thank you, Paul!
Travel to Hawaii or the virgin island now
would love to, but can't right now
