It was soooo nice to hear you say that Nebraska was one of your biggest surprises! As a lifelong Nebraskan, it's not often we hear about our state as a positive. We're really proud of our state - but we also know that it's not for everyone!!

Discovered you two earlier this month, & have been binging ever since! It's like re-living my marriage: he was 5 years older, we had a dog, lived on the Kenai Peninsula for awhile, then the high desert of CA, had a camper & traveled the country to Maine & back. After 10 years of marriage & me turning 30, we figured it was time for kids, so we had 3 in 4 years! It's the most personal decision ever, & those 1st 10 years of travel were great -- however, now looking back from almost 70, the most spectacular destination was ... parenthood. And, p.s., there's no "perfect time". Looking forward to more of your adventures, whatever they may be! 😉

Oh how crazy! It's funny how people can follow similar life paths! We still torn on parenthood and yes there is no "perfect time", but we're sure that now is not the right time. Thanks so much for watching!

Wonderful video recapping an amazing year. I have shared this with you all before but you are so dear to me and help me make adventures happen for my family. I am partially blind and planning trips can be a challenge but you and your videos allow me to to so much much easier. This year we followed yout footsteps and visited. Redwood, Lassen Volcanic, Pinnacles, Channel Islands, Joshua Tree and Dearh Valley National Parks. I used each of your videos to get a sense of the park and where to go. All were amazing. One highlight to share would be our time at Channel Islands. We hiked from the docks to Potato Harbor Overlook and back (roughly 7 miles) in the rain. No problem for my wife and I really but our 9 and 7 year old daughters were amazingly strong for 4.5 of the miles were done in the mud of Dyatamacious Earth. This mud would stick to your shoe about a half inch and collect another half inch with every step. Unitil you had like 6ish inches collected. It was like hiking in platform shoes. It would get too heaby for itself and then fall off. It was like hiking with ankle weights. Wet, cold and an unvelievable effort to move I expected the girls to breakdown, give up, ask us to carry them aback and swear to never hike again. Yet they never complained, perveviered and left as my heroes

      @AdventuresofAplusK  Рік тому

Wow that comment makes our week! We're so glad we could play any part in helping you and your family travel and experience this wonderful world! That hiking experience with all the mud sounds pretty brutal and Kathryn and I would probably get annoyed too so we give props to your daughters for being so tough and taking it in stride! That stuff is all part of the adventure and it sounds like they welcome that.
We're so thankful and lucky we get to do what we do and share it with others and it makes even better that it can be a resource for someone and provide enjoyment. Thank you for your kind comment! Happy New Year to you and yours!

When you visit NJ, its super underrated. Obviously the food will be a big part of your visit but there is some unique natural things as well.
    1. Franklin and Sterling Mineral Museums to largest variety and concentration of fluorescent minerals in the world, you can also collect them.
    2. Hike up Mt. Tammy at Delaware Water Gap.
    3. As you drive to NJ, you'll likely pass by Rickett's Glen State park in Pennslyvania, one of the largest collection of waterfalls in the entire northeast, you can double up on the waterfalls with Bushkill falls
    4. If you go up the south then a Jersey shore town like Avalon with its soft white sand
    5. Appalachian trail near Vernon NJ
    6. Palisides Hikes near the George Washington Bridge with Epic views of NYC
    Now for food
    1. Pizza: Papa's Tomato Pies and De Lorenzo Tomato Pies, which are both rated as top 50 pizzerias in the world, and within 10 mins driving of each other, in addition to these you have several others listed on top 50 and top 100 lists including santillo
    2. Bagels: essentially any place
    3. Pastrami from Harold's Deli for the largest sandwiches you'll ever see (one sandwich can feed a family)
    4. Indian Food, but something called Chaat (snacks in hindi), easiest to find in place like Edison
    5. Korean Food: one of the largest concentrations of Korean Americans is in NJ, go to one of the grill/hot pot places
    Have fun.

"Every state has cool stuff!" - Kathryn. YES!!! And I'm so glad you shared your 2022 recap that highlights lots of that cool stuff - thank you!!! Your travels here inspired me to visit the Oregon coast, Redding, Lassen NP, Pinnacles NP, Channel Islands NP, and Dutch Bros on my summer vacation this year!!! Had to reroute our planned stay in Bend to Grant's Pass (really wanted to visit the last Blockbuster there, too!) and couldn't get to Channel Islands either, which I do plan to visit in the future! I visited Death Valley NP a few years ago and also fell in love with its unique beauty. So, do you happen to have a tally on how many miles you hiked in 2022 (actual planned hikes)? That's gotta be a BIG number, too!! Thanks again for inspiring us and sharing your adventures. Loved the Star Wars lightsaber sound effects in your blooper reel. For 2023, you've got to check out Field of Dreams in Iowa and Cape May in New Jersey. Both touristy, but fun to experience. Happy New Year and Safe Travels to you in 2023!!!

That is so awesome to hear! We're glad we could inspire you to check out some gorgeous places! We thought the lightsaber sounds matched up pretty well too! 😂
According to our AllTrails we hiked 443 miles this year! 😱 that's crazy! And we didn't even track EVERY SINGLE hike! Plus all the walking we do just for every day stuff.
We're hoping to see the Field of Dreams stuff, but we're going for a big event there 🚲 and won't have our own vehicle and for NJ, we're not sure if we'll do the coast yet, but Cape May is definitely one of the most recommended spots so far!
      Thanks, as always!

Very fun video! I haven’t watched Alaska or the Arctic yet, but I’ve seen all of the rest of the year, so I remembered many of these favorites of yours. I have to say that your favorite surprise locations were exactly mine also. I’m so grateful that you’ve introduced me to Oklahoma, which I never would have given a thought to before, and now I’d like to visit Oklahoma City. And my other favorite surprise was Nebraska! I have always been curious about it, and now I’m definitely going to go there! Thanks again for all the fun and inspiration you provide!!

Love your recap of 2022. I know a lot of work goes in to what you do and I thank you for taking me on your journeys. I love that you include the journey, parks and hiking, AMAZING photos / scenery, history, experiences, urban and rural cultural actives and food...and of course your quirky dances. How you get all of that in to one amazing video each week amazes me! Kuddos to you. Because of you two, I now take my grandsons hiking and LOVE it. I am a fellow Texan but looks like I'm going to be checking out our neighboring Oklahoma! Happy New Year - I'm excited for your overseas journeys. Can't wait to see where you are going. Wow! Incredible year! Thank you again for the recap and inspiring so many adventures. A few weeks ago, on my road trip from Michigan to New Mexico and back, I went to the Wichita Mountains and hiked both Elk Mountain or the Forty-Foot Hole. Water was gushing at the latter, which I had fun showing to the workers at the visitor's center on my phone. I also ascended Guadalupe Peak to get to the top of your state! Some things I found that would be suggestions for you: Capulin Volcano National Monument in New Mexico (short hike around the rim and into the vent of a volcano), Black Mesa (high point of Oklahoma, which is probably the best-marked 8-mile trail of all time... and kind of easy), and Lincoln Home in Springfield, Illinois (I had a personal tour thanks to -8 degrees F in Springfield that day). Next year for me is kind of like yours in that I want to finish off the states. I only have Oregon and Idaho to go, and you've given me plenty to study from those states! And then I love eastern Canada and I haven't been back since my Prince Edward Island trip in 2018. So this year, I want to see Newfoundland and the Cape Breton Island part of Nova Scotia. My suggestions from eastern Canada: red sand beaches in PEI, the 270+ kilometers of rail-to-trail bikes paths in PEI (www.tourismpei.com/what-to-do/outdoor-activities/confederation-trail), Fort Beausejour in New Brunswick, the tides on the Bay of Fundy, Quebec City (my favorite city in North America outside Michigan), Point Prim Lighthouse, and the entire feel of hanging out in Charlottetown, PEI (birthplace of the Confederation!). Looking forward to everything you have next in 2023!

Epic road trip! Guadalupe Peak is a really fun hike! That volcano hike in NM sounds fun! I don't think I've heard of that one!
Oh man you saved some of the best states for last! That's going to be awesome! What a way to finish
We're so stoked for eastern Canada! Those look like some awesome recommendations. We'll definitely look into all of that. Not sure if we'll make it Quebec City, but it's been on our list for a long time. It looks amazing!
Thanks and thanks for watching, James!

Thank you! For sure, going to Oregon and Idaho will not be a "check the box" kind of trip. If that weren't enough, I'll also finally be in Washington in a non-work context.
You should be stoked for eastern Canada! One more thing I love about eastern Canada: it's not nearly as popular as it should be - which is perfect.
Can't wait to hear the 2023 plans!

Lassen is our beloved, primary park to visit and Yaks on the 5 a special treat we go to every other month ... for The Garlic Obsession Burger of course. Thank for the journey summary; i followed you for all of the journey. So many amazing places to pick from; I currently work about 3 blocks from Coneflower Creamery in Omaha .. so appreciate the added incentive to visit it having your great approval. I also lived in Eugene, Oregon for a few years and made frequent trips to Bend in the summer .. and i agree of its livability (though it seems more metropolitan in my recent visits) lots of memories in Drake park and outdoor places near there on many hiking adventures, and also, before that, a former resident of Austin for 15 years (UT Masters grad) .. always like to hear about your Texas connections as well. thank you again, esp. the Alaska scenes, and looking forward to your next chapter(s)!

Our family had a blast watching your videos this year! Thank you so much for the fun and informative way you guys put these videos together.
We are familiar with Iowa and would love to give you some suggestions!!
    1. Iowa is famous for their SUPER delicious Maid-Rites. Marshalltown's "Taylor's Maid-Rite" has the best ones (truly, no others compare), and we highly recommend going in and eating at the counter. It's a really fun experience to enjoy with the local farmers! We can't ever just eat one Maid-Rite though, so be prepared! :) Their Rootbeer shakes are also amazing (as I'm sure all of the other flavors are too!).
    2. Up in Mason City, there is a great museum called "Music Man Square" honoring the film "The Music Man." They have a charming old-fashioned town inside with a super yummy old-fashioned ice cream parlor! The museum is adjacent to the home where Merdith Wilson (the author of "The Music Man") grew up. Spoiler Alert: Mason City is the real "River City!"
    3. If you find yourself in Des Moines, a tour of "Better Homes and Gardens" would definitely be worth it!
    4. We drove through Ledges State Park, in Madrid, Iowa, and it is beautiful! We enjoyed getting to drive through some of the little streams and then getting out to explore for some hiking! It's a unique and fun experience.
Hope you guys have a blast there!! We love it!

@@AdventuresofAplusK Yes! Many people have food sensitivities no matter what kind of meals they are. Unfortunately, many vegetarian/vegan selections offered in restaurants and stores today are highly processed and include chemicals to make them palatable. But you never know, you might come across a place that serves delicious plant based foods as nature intended. We will keep watching to see if you do. Happy Travels!😀
