Next on the chopping block is Tom Cruise's casting as Jack Reacher. While Cruise is undoubtedly a Hollywood heavyweight, did he truly capture the essence of Lee Child's larger-than-life character? Or did his portrayal miss the mark, leaving die-hard fans of the novels disappointed?
And finally, we'll delve into Nick Stahl's portrayal of John Connor in "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines." Was Stahl able to fill the shoes of Edward Furlong's beloved character? Or did his performance leave fans of the franchise yearning for the days of Judgment Day?

I will never understand how the hell Tom Holland was picked for Nathan Drake if it wasn’t for some kinda box office draw or social media attention. I don’t think Tom even screams young Nathan Drake 😂 he’d have to be my pick as someone who adores the Uncharted games
There wasn't much choice tbh
He worked with Sony on SPider-man and made them lots of money.
....sooooo insteaad of castin someone who makes sense we get their current golden boy
this is honestly what came to mind as soon as I saw the title
Actually, I felt like Tom Holland was an ok choice as young Drake in the 3rd game has at least some kind of resemblance. I thought the Sully casting with Mark Wahlberg was worse. Either way, though, we really should've gotten Nathan Fillion haha
As worst casting choice, I would've thought of Tom Cruise in The Mummy. I love Tom Cruise, he's a formidable actor in action movies. But, in The Mummy, I felt he wasn't sure where to stood in between action or comedy. It was kind of awkward to see him in this movie.
Jared Leto as The Joker
I think my number one miscasting is pretty much the whole casting of Terminator Genisys. Jai Courtney as Kyle, Emilia Clarke as Sarah, and Jason Clarke as John.
Emilia Clarke was really good as Sarah tho and so was Jason Clarke as John conner. It was just jai courtney that was meh
@@itzbp9949 Emilia Clarke lacked the gravitas for Sarah Connor.
@@jaybling6687 she wasn't trying to be Linda Hamilton
@@itzbp9949 Neither was Lena Headey, but she at least still had gravitas. Clarke did not.
I disagree
Yeah i never understood the Adrian Brody hate in Predators. I love that movie and i enjoyed his performance. Would he have been my first pick for that type of character. No. I probably would have gone with someone like The Rock, Hugh Jackman or even a John Cena type. But for whats its worth he worked.
I actually never even knew people had a problem with that casting until now like yea he doesn’t look like your typical action hero type but he nails it in the film
@@loganwithlightsabers3051 it also helps that he isn't the typical action hero. Rpyce in the movie is an opportunistic and sly mercenary type character. Throughout the movie he uses tactics similar to the Predators in order to draw them out to kill. It works for the movie in my opinion.
He seemed more like an actual soldier than Arnold. You can't beat a predator with strength alone so him not being built like a body builder shouldn't be an issue.
Yes, I remember being put off by the casting originally of Adrien Brody. But he was Excellent, and a bad ass in a really good movie. I don’t think I had seen him in an action movie style role, but of course he could do it. He was known as The Pianist, not a kick ass Mercenary.
Vince Vaughan as Norman Bates in the Psycho remake.
Whoever thought of that casting deserved to be fired.
In all fairness, that movie was doomed from the start, and it didn't matter who played Norman.
Jared leto in house of gucci😂
Jesse eisenberg as lex Luther.
Lowkey underrated if you accept it as it’s own Zach Snyder interpretation. I still don’t think it’s amazing or anything but it can work as it’s own thing
I liked him.
I hadn’t watched BVS in a while but the last time I watched it a few months ago I realized the movie itself is alright but I really hate Jesse Eisenberg as Lex
YES
@@josephjuarez9805even if he wasn't playing Lex it would be one of the all-time worst blockbuster performances. It's just so bad.
George Clooney as Batman in Batman & Robin, thought i mostly blame the script and the direction, Maybe he could turn a descent portrayl under tim Burton
Its not the worst tho. He was pretty fun as batman. George Clooneys likability is probably why i liked it
I thought he was okay as Bruce Wayne, but I didn’t see him as Batman
George Clooney is a fantastic cast. The writing was just shit
I think he's a good choice for Wayne, not Batman.
@@marvelpugs6964maybe as Bruce Wayne. For Batman, he isn't right.
I’m going to go on a whim and say Both Nick Stahl and Jason Clarke as John Connor were both way off from my expectations for John Connor.
Yeah, I'm a fan of Clarke too, but he just wasn't right for that.
Russell Crowe in Les Mis, Neil Patrick Harris in Gone Girl, Emma Stone in Aloha, Tom Hanks in Elvis, Jared Leto in House of Gucci, anyone from the Venom movies, and probably Chris Pratt in Garfield
Agree with all except Russell Crowe. He was an amazing Javert. Unless you're talking about his terrible singing, and then I'd probably agree 😅
Jesee Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will forever be one of the worst casting decisions in comic book adaptation history for me. Absolutely nothing about Eisenberg worked in that role, from his performance to even his physical appearance.
Topher Grace as Eddie Brock/Venom
Okay the thing with that is that Topher is fine… as Eddie Brock
Things really only go off the rails once he gets the symbiote
@@karlwittenburg5868it’s why they should have had Venom be the villain for Spider-man 4 and have it end with Eddie getting the black suit. It would have given Topher time to bulk up and added the extra aspect of him having been under the thrall of the symbiote for a while and having gone nuts
Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor
The big two that come to mind.
Adam Sandler as Paul Crewe in The Longest Yard was f@@@@@g ridiculous. Adam playing a former NFL QB and tough guy character doesn't work on any level. The original movie is damn near perfect anyway and it didn't need a remake.
Al Pacino as Tom Dobb in Revolution, it takes place during the American Revolutionary war, Pacino plays a fur trapper, and he joins to fight against the British, but the problem is that Pacino looks and sounds like a New Yorker in 1985. His acting isn't awful, and the movie isn't as bad as the critics were saying at that time but you can't overlook this Italian New Yorker playing this character. It's funny but does distract you from the movie.
The concept of Predators outweighs any bad casting in that film in my opinion. But I actually like the cast in that movie too.
Especially as more of an ensemble film it works for me.
Off the top of my head, here are five bad casting choices:
Sofia Coppola as Mary Corleone (The Godfather Part III)
Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald (Fantastic Beasts 1 & 2)
Topher Grace as Eddie Brock/Venom (Spider-Man 3)
Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harper (Bram Stoker’s Dracula)
Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese (Terminator: Genisys)
Mary Corleone for sure my pick for the worst... not to mention it feels like nepotism 😬
Coppola had two of those castings. 💀
But in all fairness, Sofia Coppola was cast less than a day before her first scene. Winona Ryder was literally pulled out due to sickness at that late a date. So it's not really her fault
I know where the bahhstud sleeps
Depp was the right choice, but the look could’ve been better
To name a few: Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Topher Grace as Venom, Rupert Everett as Dr. Claw, Cameron Diaz as Miss Hannigan, Nick Stahl as John Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, Chloe Grace Moretz as Carrie White, and Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates
Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in Batman V Superman
Ava Jogia as Leon Kennedy in Welcome to Raccoon City
Megan Fox as April O Neil in TMNT
Funnily enough, I had the exact same reaction toward Alan Ritchson as Reacher that you were talking about. As someone who never read the source material, I didn’t pay much attention to the complaints about Tom Cruise’s stature. Then, the first still I saw of Ritchson as Reacher and I was like “Okay, I get it”.
For me, the 5 worst casting choices are:
5. Jared Leto as Joker - Suicide Squad
4. Topher Grace as Venom - Spider-Man 3
3. Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luther - Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice
2. George Clooney as Batman - Batman & Robin
1. The whole cast - The Last Airbender
Eddie Furlong was casted on Terminator 3. He singed the largest check he ever got, into the millions, with the condition he stay clean and sober. He then proceeds to go out with the fellas and ODs on cocaine…goodbye millions and hello Nick Stahl.
The worst casting in cinematic history is whoever is going to play the new Captain Jack Sparrow
You being facetious or?
A recent one for bad casting is Joaquin phoenix as napoleon just looks lost and confused with the role which ironically not far of from the truth as it happens from interviews and he plays napoleon different from scene to scene so you don't get a consistent character and he the wrong age for most of the film and he looks it.
Oscar Issac as Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse. That was the 1st thing that came to mind for me.
I think Jessie Eisengerg as Lex Luther is the worst casting
Nic cage as ghost rider. He never convinced me that he was a good Johnny blaze He over acted in the movie and every line he was saying felt like he was a cartoon character
You mean Johnny Blaze
Terminator 3 John connor
How about Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates lmao
Nick Stahl I get but Adrian Brody I certainly don’t
I think there are many examples of bad casting over the years!
Here are a few that come to my mind:
Tom Holland as Nathan Drake.
Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan.
Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor.
Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald.
Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr Freeze.
Cara Delevingne as the Enchantress.
John Wayne as The Conquerer
Dang, you beat me to it
LOL no way, it was hilarious and great.
I’m pretty sure Tom Cruise is actually like 8 inches shorter than Alan lol (5’7 Tom and 6’3 Alan)
Correct
On Sean's patreon live chats, does he answer every question?
Yes. They're 90 minutes to 2 and half hours. There's usually about 20 people. So I answer everyones questions.
And if you can't make the live stream, you can just DM me your question and I'll answer it.
The obvious size mismatch aside, I thought Cruise actually did a great job channelling Reacher's demeanor, as someone who's read all the books. Obviously there's a baseline you have to meet to convincingly play Reacher (namely, the threshold of six feet) but I thought he got the attitude down pat, and I like how McQuarrie and Co. reworked his fighting style to suit his height while still keeping the minimalist Reacher fight approach
The response to this video was much better than expected. Looks like I'll be doing a video reacting to your picks for the worst casting this weekend!
There are so many I could think of but right now I’d say recently half the cast of the live action borderlands movie which is Cate Blanchett as Lilith Jamie Lee Curtis as dr tannis and Kevin Hart as Roland
Mathieu Amalric as Dominic Greene in Quantum of Solace. Talk about following one of the best Bond villains ever in the form of Mads Mikkelsen’s Le Chiffre to one of the most forgettable. Matthew’s character trying to size up Daniel Craig’s Bond at one point in the film had me cackling in laughter.
Jesse eisenberg as lex luthor
In the Terminator franchise, even worse to me is Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor in Genysis. Generally, I like Emilia. But nothing about her as Sarah reminded me of the legendary performance of Linda Hamilton. Horribly miscast in that role.
Emilia Clarke is just one of those actresses that isn’t believable in an action role like she’s 5’2 and she looked ridiculous holding a benelli m4
Chloe Grace Moretz as Carrie White in the Carrie remake.
Gerard Butler as The Phantom of the Opera
Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates
Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor
Kristen Stewart as Snow White
Rosie O'Donnell as Betty Rubble
Matthew Broderick as Inspector Gadget
Jared Leto as The Joker
Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr Freeze
Hillary Duff as Sharon Tate
The whole cast of The Last Airbender
Demi Moore as A puritan woman in The Scarlett Letter
Madonna as Eva Peron
Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor-Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice
Cameron Diaz as Hannigan-Annie
Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock-Venom
Vince Vaughn as Nick Barrow-Term Life
Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne-Max Payne
George Clooney as Batman-Batman & Robin
Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs-Jobs
Michael Pena as Mr. Roarke-Fantasy Island
I can't think of any worst castings but are some of my favorite best Castings
1. Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt
2. Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott
3. Christan Bale as Batman
4. Freddie Prinze Jr as Fred Jones
5. Jenna Ortaga as Wednesday
6. Henry Cavill as Superman
7. Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice
8. Toby Maguire as Spider-Man
9. Matthew Lillard as Shaggy
Ethan Hunt is the greatest secret agent in all of cinema
Lillard is surely better as Shaggy than Prinze is as Fred. He not only looked the part, but embodied the character perfectly. And his voice was so good for the role to the point he's been Shaggy's voice actor since 2010.
The role that Jenna Ortega was born to play is my wife
Tom Holland as Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie. Turned one of mine and my friends most anticipated movies into one of our most despised movies. Straight up cant see anything starring tom holland anymore.
Dishonorable mention: ariel in last years live action little mermaid remake. If the races where reversed no one would be afraid to acknowledge that this casting was straight up racism but alas since it was against white it cant be criticized...
Pretty much the entire cast of Fant4stic. I don’t think it was truly entirely their fault but none of them fit the roles they were playing
I don’t think the Ben Grimm or Sue storm castings were bad
@@marvelpugs6964 that’s fair. I think they all could’ve been great. I think it’s more a problem with the movie than the actual cast
Perhaps a controversial one but Edward Norton as Bruce Banner. Great actor but nothing close to BB, IMHO.
So many but here are some off the top of my head in no order.
Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harker in Dracula, love the guy but that just didn't work, and he was the weakest thing in that very good movie.
Leo in Gangs of New York, I can't buy Leo as this tough Irish guy in 1860s NYC, his accent was all over the place and I will throw Cameron Diaz in as bad casting for the same reasons. That movie was very flawed and really saved by DDL as Bill the Butcher.
That Game of Thrones chick as Sarah Connor in Terminator Genisys was awful, I guess in all fairness to her, the whole movie was awful, but she was still a bad choice and would've still been bad even if the rest of the movie was good.
Zendaya as Chani in the Dune movies, I really like both movies and the book is one of my favorites but she completely fails at capturing that character from the books and her acting in general is very moody mixed with flat.
Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, he's too good looking and cocky in the wrong kind of way. He felt more emo and jerky instead of being a nerd. You can put the blame on the writing for some of it but he looks like the kind of guy that would bully Peter Parker. Maybe he would've made a better Harry.
Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor is in the debate for worst casting maybe ever in a superhero movie. Nothing about him is like Lex and he's just giving us a more annoying version of his performance from The Social Network.
Sanda Bullock as Leigh in The Blindside, her winning an Oscar for that movie was ridiculous and she's a New Yorker doing one of the worst southern accents that I've ever heard in a movie.
Ryan Gosling in Blade Runner 2049, I like the movie overall, but I don't think he has that Harrison Ford toughness to carry that kind of movie and he doesn't work as a tough guy. I think Ryan is better as the wimp guy like in The Nice Guys. He has charisma in his own way, but Harrison Ford has more of a dry wit and you could buy him beating dudes up back in the day. Not so much with Ryan.
Emilia Clarke is like 5’2 so she looked ridiculous holding guns 2x her size just not believable in an action role
Matthew Broderick as Nic Tatopolus in Godzilla (1998).
Worked for the movie he was in
@@JM-pm1yb Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt would have been better casting in my eyes.
Brian Tyree Henry as megatron in transformers One. Chris Hemsworth sounds great as a younger Optimus, but WTF did they do to megatron? You cannot convince me that guy is gonna become a tyrant
Keegan Michael Key as Bumblebee is honestly worse casting compared to Brian as Megatron, Brian has done serious work before so I believe he’ll become more tyrannical towards the end of the film. Keegan however I don’t buy as Bumblebee whatsoever, he’s too old for a character that’s supposed to be young, plus his comedy already went overboard and it was just the trailer alone
Stephen Dorff in Blade and, if we're being honest, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Jackman's done fine with the role in cinema but at the end of the day, that's not the James Howlett in the books.
yeah real. But then there are sooo many of those in comic book media. Michael b Jordan as both human torch and killmonger, Jeffrey wright as commissioner Gordon, Jeremy renner as Hawkeye
Aaron Taylor Johnson Fall Guy. Justice Smith Magical Negroes. 2nd Darrio Naharis/Gunner from Rebel Moon. The New Han Solo( he won me over in Oppehiemer, but he was god awful in Solo. Vince Vaughn True Detective Season 2. Kora from Rebel Moon. Jared Leto, Suicide Squad.
With all due respect, most, if not all, of the hate about Tom Cruise playing Jack Reacher comes from those who have read the books prior to watching the movie. As one who has not read the books, and looking at the movie on its own merits, I don’t really have a problem with the casting. With the Amazon Prime series, Alan Ritchson better embodies the character as laid out in the source material, I’m told. But I view the two as different adaptations of the source material. Much as “The Last Man on Earth” (1964), “The Omega Man” (1971), and “I Am Legend” (2007) are all separate adaptations of the source material of the book, “I Am Legend” by Richard Matheson. With “The Last Man on Earth” (1964) being the closest to the source material. I can appreciate all three, however, and not excoriate them for their differences. But one question for all those “Jack Reacher” purists, did / do you have a problem with Hugh Jackman’s (6’2”) portrayal of the Wolverine (’5’3”)? If not, why not?
Jared Leto as Joker
Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor
Topher Grace as Venom
Wes Bentley as Blackheart in Ghost Rider
Joel Kinnaman as Robocop
Seth Rogen as the Green Hornet
Chris O’Donnell as Robin
Jesse Eisenberg easily as Lex Luthor.
Karl Urban as Johnny Cage
Marwan Kenzari as Jafar. Not necessarily the worst casting I've seen (that would probably also go to TC as Reacher), but as someone who adored Aladdin as a kid it was a pretty huge disappointment to see them cast one of my favourite movie villains with an actor who embodied absolutely none of his traits, and who didn't really do anything new with the role either
I'm a massive Hannibal Lecter fan and have never ever seen how one could look at gaspard Ulliel and think he could anyway be Hannibal Lecter (although there were plenty more flaws in that film)
Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker comes to my mind first. A lot of it can be blamed on poor writing and direction but I just don’t know if Hayden is a famous enough actor to play Darth Vader of all people
Zazie Beetz as Domino and Finn Jones as Iron Fist.
You should do best castings ever!
Donald Faison As Booster Gold In The Penultimate episode Of Legends Of Tomorrow before It got cancelled CW terrible casting at display by Warner Bros. I stotchly defended The Arrowverse but I can see why It's Dead and not so fondly remembered
Oh my god that was such HORRIFIC casting and characterisation
ill give you John Connor... but Tom Cruise & Adrien Brody were fine in their roles.. they sold me.
one I would have on the list is Jessie Einsberg (?) as Lex Luthor... he really didnt feel threatening
The Jack Reacher movies wouldn’t have been made without Tom Cruise expressing interest in the role. I saw an interview with Lee Childs, the author of the Reacher series, he said the first movie was in Hollywood turnaround hell. Wasn’t until Tom Cruise and his production company came onboard that the project finally entered preproduction phase.
That Uncharted movie is totally miscast. Antonio Banderas was fine but his character wasn’t in much of the third act for reasons.
Actually about two out of three Mark Wahlberg movies are all wrong for him. Chris Pratt is having the similar results. He’s just ok but there are probably better actors out there. For some reason Wahlberg and Pratt have box office appeal.
Not one that ruins the movie, but if you've read the original books it's based on, Hugh Jackman as the Easter bunny in Rise of the Guardians is this.
It's the most egregious example of DreamWorks just casting a big name and building a character around them I can name, especially compared to how Unrecognizable Alec Baldwin is as that movie's depiction of Santa
Mila Kunis as the Wicked Witch of the West in Oz the great and powerful is the one time I really thought to myself "this casting does not work at all".
Tom Hanks in Elvis. Naomi Ackie in I wanna dance with somebody
Tom Hanks was great in Elvis
@@MrMgkman13 his accent was so thick I could barley understand him. And while Col Parker had an accent, it was nothing like Hanks portrayed it in the film
Mark Wahlberg as Sully for me
Keanu Reeves as Johnathan Harker in Bram Stoker’s Dracula
I have to disagree with your take on Tom Cruise. Sure, he was a lot smaller than the Reacher in the books but he nailed the personality of Reacher so I wouldn't say he was "miscast"
Adrian Brodie is very good in predators
The film is a very underrated
Luis Guzman as Gomez Adams. I get the idea in theory, but he did not pull of a convincing performance.
Bella Ramsey as Ellie in TLoU is hands down one of the worst casting decisions
Tom cruise might have been miscast as jack reacher but he's an incredible actor. He's not nearly as appreciated as he should be as just an actor and not an action star. Alan ritchson is a great reacher for sure but doesnt touch tom cruise as an actor lol
Sure, but that's kind of the whole point of proper casting
Everyone in live action The Last Airbender movie
For me the worst casting ever was John Cho as spike spiegel ,and Danielle pineda as faye valentine in the netflix cowboy bebop reboot
Henrey Cavill as Superman. This is not a dig at the snyderverse, i just never liked Cavill as an actor and i dont think he plays Superman/Clark Kent well at all. 😅
Nick Stahl was cheap. That's all it was he wasn't a big name so he wouldn't be expensive for hire
Yeah but you can hire other non-expensive actors which fit the part better
Ansel Elgort as Tony in West Side Story. Tom Holland or Thomas Doherty would have been perfect for that character. Thats just my opinion though. ☺️☺️
People might get mad at me, but…
Chris Pratt as Mario
Jack Black as Bowser
Chris is just voicing himself, NOT EVEN TRYING in the slightest to sound like Mario. Illumination ONLY put him in it because he’s a celebrity, not because he’s a good voice actor (The same with the upcoming Garfield movie)
And Jack Black does a way better job, But he sounds like he’s doing an impression of Bowser rather than being Bowser.
Ezra Miller as The Flash
Zachary Levi as Shazam
Ben Affleck as Daredevil
Those first two grew on me (well, Shazam kinda parodied himself with the 2nd film). That last one... I agree. Thank goodness for Batman.
Zachary Levi as Shazam?
@@SeanChandlerPlus John Cena should have played Shazam
Taylor Kitsch as John Carter
Amazon’s Rings Of Power. Pretty much all the casting
Seth rogan in the green hornet imo. The role just screams will ferrel
Nick Stahl as John Connor is as bad to me as people try to say Hayden Christensen was in the prequels
Mark Wahlberg as Sully in Uncharted was atrocious, both guys were just playing themselves in a generic adventure blockbuster instead of adapting Uncharted characters
Got to go for Keanu Reaves as Johnathan Harker from Bram Stokers Dracula as worst miscast. Aside from the accent, he just seems so stiff in all of his scenes. Love him in other films but just wasn't right for Johnathan Harker
Mark Zuckerberg I mean Jessie eisenberg as lex Luthor
Tyler Perry as Alex Cross
Any time Vin Diesel gets a job.
Edward furlong as Eric draven
Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich!Good actor but 2 sizes too small
Zach Efron is 6 inches too short too
Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon, i liked the movie but it seemed like he didn’t even try 😂
Kristen Stewart in the TWILIGHT movies.
Nah she was perfect. There’s just no saving that.
Adrian Brodi was amazing!
I'd be willing to bet ryan gossling whenever his MCU role is announced.
I don't get the Adrian Brody hate either, like what?
Nick Sthal looked more like Michael Biehn/Kyle Reese than John Connor.
Jai Courtney as Kyle reese
david harbour as hellboy, Jared leto as Joker
Was David Harbour the problem with that movie or was it the script?
There's plenty to roast with the film but I didn't take it as Harbour was the one bringing the material down.
Denise Richards as Dr. Christmas Jones, a nuclear physicist in The World is Not Enough
Tom Holland is a great actor and i enjoy the uncharted movie even though it has a lot of flaws, but Tom was not a good choice for Nathan Drake he's too young.
Everybody in avatar and the last Airbender movie
