I don’t think any franchise “needs” to end. But they need to stop making these franchises just because they can. They need to start realizing that if they just tell good stories it will get people coming back. Not just because it’s a franchise we know
What's great about the planet of the apes franchise is they treat the story seriously and don't make the characters a joke like a lot of other film series, they treat the characters in the apes franchise with respect and show passion in the storytelling
They need to stop making Toy Story movies. I actually loved the 4th movie but it was still unnecessary and could’ve (or should’ve) ended it at 3. I still can’t believe we’re getting a 5th movie even after 4’s ending
I saw TFA in theater five times, we want more Star Wars, but then Disney stabbed the fans in the back.
As soon as anyone who respects the fans gets their hands on the Star Wars IP we will see a resurgence of Star Wars all over again, there's no reason to think Star Wars can't keep making good content for the next hundred years as long as the rights holder doesn't try to actively betray their customers.
Terminator, Matrix, Jurassic Park/World, Scream, Toy Story, bunch of other horror franchises, and Fast and Furious after this “final” movie. I think the Pirates movies have enough of a world to do more adventures, so I would love to see a new movie but in the same universe as Jack and Will. I think it’s possible to make a good movie without them as long as you have equally serviceable, compelling, and entertaining characters and plots at play.
I disagree star wars doesn't need to stop yes some star wars content im not interested in but most games or tv show or movies im interested in for the most part i like
Just noticed the new intro with dune and Mario, nice!
I would say Jurassic World, but it seems like Spielberg/David Koepp/Scarlett Johansson/Gareth Edwards have cracked the code, really looking forward to Jurassic City next July.
I agree with the corporate side with star wars
Should've Ended Earlier
The Simpsons
Family Guy
Power Rangers
South Park
Pokemon
Should Be Revived
The Critic
Duckman
Skeleton Warriors
The Tick (1994)
Legend Of The Dragon
No South Park is still good now
Franchises that went on too long or should’ve stopped with the first movie:
Jaws
Dumb and Dumber
Taken
Independence Day
Scary Movie
Death Wish
The Hangover
Underworld
Pirates of the Caribbean
Meet the Parents
The Matrix
Franchises I’d love to see return:
A fifth Shrek film
Fright Night
National Treasure 3
Gremlins
The Collector
Your wrong about the Matrix. The Original Trilogy is one of the best ever made. It was a total blast watching the 2nd and 3rd at IMAX back in 2003 for my birthday. Pirates 2 and 3 feels a lot like Matrix 2 and 3 one huge story told over 2 parts. It had a great end and we did not need part 4 or 5.
Whaat? You didn't like pirates of the Caribbean 2? I thought it was good. The third one is where it fell off imo
Disney did some Disney+ project with national treasure with a dual female lead (so not a continuation of Nicholas cage's story) limited series format and it didn't interest me, and I haven't heard anything about it, but my hope are not high for it
Rise of the Lycans was actually good, not exactly on par with the first movie but close enough everyone who enjoyed Underworld should really watch the prequel.
Kudos for putting The Matrix on this list.
Come to think of it we could add Game of Thrones to the list too, both GoT and Matrix started out so well but finished so lame.
EASILY COBRA KAI Should Have Ended At Season 3 Or 4
It Started With A Fantastic Concept In The First Season That Could Have Been A Stand Alone Tragedy (Win The Battle, Lose The War)
Season 2 Took The Next Logical Step But Went WAAAAY TOO Far With That Finale Of A VIOLENT ALL OUT WAR That Ended With Tory Trying To Commit Murder On A Girl Who's Ex Boy Friend She Sexually Manipulated To Piss Of Sam, Then Also Nearly Gets Him Killed. It Doesn't Matter What Her Family Situation Was, Tory Should Have Been Thrown In Prison For Decades, Charged As An Adult!
When You Get To Season 3, THat's Where It All Falls Apart. It's No Longer Nerds VS Bullies, It's Kids VS "A GANG OF THUGS WHO ALL BELONG IN PRISON". They Commit Gang Assault And Steal THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS Just To Be Punks. A Judge Would Make Examples Out Of Them, HAWKS ESPECIALLY!!! Then They Commit Another Gang Assault And Break Dimitri's Arm. That's Where Hawk's Should Have Snapped Out Of It, But He's Hanging Out With The Filthy Thug Who Tormented Him And Acting Just Like Him. The Villains Have Waaaay Too Much Plot Armor & Everyone Is Too Stupid. Parents Would Be Grabbing These Thugs And Making Them Scream. Tory Is Violating Her Parole NON STOP Just Being In Cobra Kai, So She's Putting Her Family At Risk So Her Stupid Excuse Is Invalid. She Hates the Rich But Hangs Out With Kyler The Rich Thug!
The Cops Turn A Blind Eye Because They're ******* Listening To A Man Known For Harming Children Who's Students Started A Riot And The Parents Are Too ******** To Tell Them About Tory Violating Her Parole Or The Other Gang Assaults.
Robby's Being A Little EMO B**** Because He Had To Face Consequences For Nearly Killing Someone And Listens To The Monsters Who Put Him In This Situation Over The People Who Helped Him.
Then The Home Invasion Assault At The End Where Kyler Is Trying To Reparalyze Miguel And Tory Is Trying To Murder Samantha For The THIRD TIME BECAUSE TORY IS A SUCK! A HOME INVASION GANG ASSAULT!!!!
PARENTS WOULD BE DRAGGING THESE THUGS BY THEIR ANYTHING OUT TO DO WHAT ANY PARENT WOULD DO IN THAT SITUATION IN FRONT OF THEIR PARENTS THEN THROWING THEM ALL IN PRISON, Not Going (In Stupid Voice, Mind You) "Let's Settle This With A Tournament Without Even Signing A Contract Meaning The Thugs Could Just Not Honor The Agreement. And It's Better To Do It This Way Than Prison Cause That Would Be Putting Our Kids Through Too Much Emotional Turmoil.".............. Just Let How Stupid THey Are Sink In Right There.......... Very Very Dumb. Like, "Too Dumb To Be Allowed To Have Their Kids Stay With Them" Dumb.
Then They Take The Only Voice Of Reason With Amanda Larusso And Have Her Go To Her Daughter, (In Stupid Voice Again) "Honey, The Best Way To Keep You Safe From The Maniac Who Tried To Murder You In School Is To Put The Maniac Who Tried To Murder You Back Into That Very School." ........................ So.......... Sooooo Very Stupid.
Tory Gets Herself Fired From Multiple Jobs But Acts Like Amanda Got Her Fired When She's The One Who Escalates And Admits It's Not The First Job She Lost And Her Boss Acknowledges She's Done This Before....... And Yet A Large Majority Of The Fan Base Side With Her Over Amanda Saying "She Was Out Of Line Going To Tory's Place Of Work. Massive Invasion Right There." Tory......... Who Broke Into Amanda's Home And Tried To Murder Her Daughter..... For The Third Time........ Yeah I Think The Fan Base Who Believe That Are Just Like The Parents..... Not Smart.
Then Terry Comes In To Teach Cobra Kai More So Daniel's Logic Is (Obviously In Stupid Voice) "We Need To Teach Our Students Less. Only The Way That I Used Which Didn't Actually Beat Silver, I Just Got Lucky. But Yeah, That Makes Total Sense. Derrrr."
Season 4 Should Have Just Been Either All The Thugs Go To Jail With Kreese And Silver Tries To Get Revenge But Fails, Or Silver Bribes Judges & Cops To Keep Them Safe And All The Staff For The Tournament To Actually Allow Them All To Compete Cause Otherwise That Would Never Actually Happen, But Then They're Exposed At The End And Lose The Tournament And Are Still Arrested.
Waaaaaaaay Better Writing Than Every Two Seconds Making Everyone Stupid Just To Make More Content Just So These Actors Who Haven't Worked In Decades Will Have Work Again.
I know I'm in the minority but POTC on stranger tides is my favorite pirates movie
Although I prefer BBC Sherlock, I want to see Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes get a satisfying conclusion with a third film. Riche's Sherlock Holmes Franchise needs its conclusion.
Also, I mentioned the aforementioned about the God’s Not Dead that it needing to die even though it wouldn't.
On paper, you can write a Christian movie about persecution for Christians in a secular college/university. But, those movies, sans a bit of the third one, are more focused on handling a complex situation with little to no thought in the creativity. I mean, the 4th ine laughably tried to make it look like of Christian Americans didn't put their children in public schools, the government would come and take their children away. Not one single case at the end proves that, so why the flying crap would they portray that they will? And, I happen to be a Christian who was homeschooled, and no one threatened my parentd with jail time if they didn't put us in public school.
Geez, not every kid can be homeschooled, and yet that movie demonizes public schools!
I still unapologetically enjoy the Fast movies. I've honestly been a little confused by the reactions to the most recent entries like it's gone way too far or jumped the shark. I'm just thinking to myself "what franchise have you been watching?" It's been over the top and played loose with believable physics since the fifth movie, but I love it for that.
Yeah, I mean the Fast franchise has always required major suspension of disbelief, but I feel like it's stretched it to the extremes with the past few installments. Every villain becomes a hero/unlikely ally in the next sequel and every former friend who was killed off ends up coming back to life somehow.
@TheMrHavish that's exactly why I love it. It's like comic books. No one is ever really dead and villains can flip to heroes.
Hard disagree regarding the Matrix sequels but other than that you make some pretty valid points.
1:42 That’s 100% my hope with Drew Goddard doing the next Matrix. If the Wachowskis hopped on it again, I would’ve been like “COME ON, LET IT DIE ALREADY!” But Goddard would bring an interesting angle to the franchise.
I think that’s the key to it. Either get a director that you know would bring an interesting angle, or pitch a new angle that would entice audiences. (The latter is what caught my eye about Mufasa.)
THat's the key with all of it. There's many examples of franchies that seemed dead....and then someone found the new story worth telling
That’s what Ubisoft did with Assassin’s Creed. After the failure of Syndicate they knew they needed an interesting new angle to revitalise the franchise. They took a year off and completely revamped the formula, bringing us AC Origins, an open world RPG with a beautiful recreation of Ancient Egypt, set in the Assassin’s Creed universe. It was exactly what the franchise needed to recapture fan interest and bring in new audiences and it was a massive success. This is not a rule that applies to one single type of media, it can be applied across entertainment as a whole, and it’s time people pay attention to this.
Star Wars definitely needs better ideas. For me Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the whole Sequel Trilogy is one of the biggest disappointments ever because the world of Star Wars offers a big universe (pun intended) of various characters, worlds, and endless story opportunities to offer us something different away from the Skywalker family and the events of the Original Trilogy.
So thirty years after Return of the Jedi and we got a remake of A New Hope? Sure, it was nice seeing the original trio of Ford, Fisher and Hamill again, but they couldn't give us a new story and new stuff happening? Ugh. At least the SW prequels, Indy 4 & 5 (regardless of their respective flaws) were their own films and took their characters in some new directions at least.
I loved the first two seasons of The Mandalorian and Andor because they either gave us some new characters to focus on or in the case of Andor, took a new approach of what a Star Wars story could focus on. Quality over Quantity is something I feel the franchise has been needing since 1983.
Most of these franchises went on way too long and became trash. Some of the big ones for me in no order.
The Godfather, I don't care what cut you watch, The Godfather 3 sucks and should be erased. The Godfather 2 was the perfect ending for Michael and the story in general.
Indiana Jones should've stayed a trilogy and I think most people would agree with that.
Star Wars, I would erase all of Disney Star Wars and just let it end with the prequels. I wouldn't call myself a prequel lover but the good outweighs the bad.
The Hobbit movies are terrible, they could've made one good movie, but it was f@cking ridiculous that they made 3 movies based off that short a$$ book.
Terminator, talk about milking the cow dry and beating a dead horse. It ended in 1991 with Judgment Day.
Jaws, first movie is the greatest blockbuster movie of all time and I dig the 2nd movie even if it's a big step down, but the 3rd and 4th movies are embarrassing and should be erased.
Predator never should've had any sequels. One of the greatest action movies ever made and not everything needs to become a franchise.
Alien franchise, nothing after Aliens is worth watching. The first 2 movies are iconic, and I would've been fine if Aliens was the end of the story.
I feel like Micheal Bays Transformers franchise should have ended after Dark of The Moon and then do a fresh reboot but unfortunately paramount forced Bay to continue milking the franchise which is how we ended up getting both Age of Extinction and The Last Knight which were so bad that they even effected the rebooted movies.
He actually left after Moon and Paramount were looking to other directors to replace him like David Yates, Joe Johnston, and Roland Emmerich till Bay went on the Transformers ride and chose to return for Extinction
I agree but they didn't. It's all about money.
I've always said that they need to stop making Fast and Furious movies. I stopped watching them after the 7th movie cuz that was the last one with Paul Walker, and it just feels disrespectful to me that they kept on going without him. I know many said that Paul would've wanted the series to continue, but i feel like they are using that as an excuse to make more films. Maybe when they actually throw in the towel i might finish watching the series, but until then i'm perfectly happy with the ending to Furious 7.
as much as i love Terminator: Dark Fate and the show, and enjoy aspects of the other three post-T2 sequels, Terminator shouldn't have ever been turned into a big franchise after T2 to begin with
Star Wars should have ended with the 6 from George
We have the Thrawn Trilogy written by Timothy Zhan in 1993 and the comic book version illustrated by Dark Horse Comics in 1998.
Pretty soon we'll be able to just tell an AI to regenerate those books into a movie and then we will have the official sequel trilogy.
Or we just needed new stories that don't involve the Skywalker Family and keep reusing the characters from the Original Trilogy. This was what frustrated me so much about the Sequel Trilogy is that they just remade the OT with some new characters and changed the names of the planets around.
I agree, Star Wars was never meant to go on and on. George with all his flaws had a vision and it would've been better off if George kept the rights.
Star Wars as we know it should have ended with the prequels and the clone wars because we have a complete story and then we could have brand new stories that are unrelated to the current ones
The only thing that ever should have happened to Star Wars is a full scale production of the Thrawn Trilogy.
Star Wars fans of the 90's had a complete script for the sequel trilogy in 1993 and a fully illustrated comic book version in 1998. Much as people still had some complaints it's infinitely better than anything from George or Disney since then.
@@budthecyborg4575 that would have been hype
Home Alone 4, 5 & 6.
Please no Die Hard 6 and No Ice Age 7. I haven't seen Ice Age 6 but animated looks very bad. And no Indiana Jones 6.
Not sure they can make another Indiana Jones or Die Hard because Harrison Ford is now 81 and Bruce Willis is now retired from acting.
The Mission Impossible franchise!!! Definitely needs better ideas. How many times do we need to watch Ethan Hunt search for a McGuffin then the government turns on him rinse an repeat. Gets old, that's why the last one flopped.
Over 90% of these franchises need to stop, it's pretty sad that we are still living off franchises from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. This is why I will never agree with Sean on making a sequel or reboot of Back to the Future. That is the one franchise that hasn't been ruined by modern day Hollywood with its BS and agendas.
My top 5 franchises that really went on too long.
Terminator should've ended with T2, and nothing is canon after that for me.
Die Hard should've ended with the 3rd movie.
Aliens has two legit movies and nothing else matters.
The Matrix should've been one and done.
Jurassic Park is iconic but also should've been one and done.
I think JP 2 and 3 were pretty good, and world 1 was alright but world 2 was so awful I had no interest in seeing 3. Of course nothing will reach the original tho
Idk if you consider it part of the aliens franchise, but Predators and Prey were 2 fairly recent movies that were really good imo. I agree aliens 3 and 4 were really quite bad tho
What up
Terminator franchise should of ended after T2
Definitely
Chucky/Child’s Play
Every Jaws sequel is laughable, I think that definitely should've ended with one film. Other than that, sequels can be good as long as they don't feel forced, and I think having spinoffs, prequels, reboots, or "requels" can be great since they don't directly relate to the original but it contributes to the world and legacy, if done competently. If they're not done right, I can pretend they're non-canon since they're not direct sequels or anything.
Matrix
Fast & furious
MCU
Star Wars does not need to stop
Franchises don’t have to die but they need to rest
What franchises need to stop? Terminator and Halloween
Star Wars is fine where it’s at it’s my opinion people should stop criticizing peoples opinions no one is in
I think the MCU should have stopped with Endgame. Just watched it again and it really was the perfect place to end it.
Fast and the furious needs to END completely and maybe just focus on spin offs
Disney needs to sell star wars. They've proven time and time again that they are incompetent and incapable of making a decent project from the IP
But why would they sell it when all of their movies have been box office successes except 1, and all of their shows are on top of the streaming charts whenever released. Not to mention the merchandising, and parks.
@rigby_rich3650 if they don't do something, people will stop going to them. Let's not forget, the MCU had two box office flops last year with Antman 3 and The Marvels. Only Guardians 3 was a success.
@@rigby_rich3650 they’ve tarnished it. Not even the theme park land is as popular or beloved as you may think it is. And a lotta the shows have hit low numbers too on streaming like Andor and Ahsoka, I’m curious as to where that info is coming from.
@@NinthShinigami that’s the thing, andor hit a record low for Star Wars shows, it was still on the charts which 90% of shows don’t even make it. They have a powerful IP selling it would be absolutely stupid for them to do
@@rigby_rich3650 not if they’re gonna keep mishandling it with the big stuff or over saturating the product for all it’s worth. What the other guy told you about the MCU could very much be applied here, only difference is Kathleen isn’t looking to make changes whereas Feige knows and understands the product is losing its stance. Star Wars is losing its power.
Fast and Furious needs to die cause like with happened….
When Paul Walker died they should have put it to rest and you can’t really use money as an excuse anymore because the box office keeps declining
Jurasssic
The JURASSIC franchise needs to be extinct. The SCREAM franchise should have ended when Wes Craven passed away.
Scream should've stopped after the 2nd movie.
Eh, I'm kinda torn on the Jurassic Park franchise continuing. On one hand, I love dinosaurs and the original JP movie is one of my favorites. However, I agree they need new writers, ideas and to revamp the series since it's gotten so stale and repetitive.
Star wars, star wars and star wars.Tired of so much meaningless filler content for a story that technically ended 40 years ago.
You can still make a good SW story. I really liked The Mandalorian (well, the first two seasons at least) and Andor is pretty damn good. What matters is the execution and bringing something new to the table that isn't the same old stuff about the Skywalker family or Jedi vs Sith battles.
Saw need to end even tho Saw X was amazing can't think of any other franchise right now
