Even six years later, I still consider this one of the most fun episodes of Doctor Who I've seen in the modern era of the show. Smith and Tennant have such amazingly fun chemistry together that I find myself fervently hoping there's another reunion episode in the near future! Smith really showcases how hyper and energetically boy-ish Eleven is. "Ooh! He's cool! Isn't he cool? I'm the Doctor and I'm all cool! Whoops! I'm wearing SAND SHOES!!!" while he waves his arms about and at times LITERALLY runs away in circles. The War Doctor's later comment, "Are you capable of talking without flapping your arms?" pokes fun at this a bit, but also shows that, for whatever else Moffat's flaws were in his writing technique, he really understood the importance of each Doctor having his own mannerisms.
This was the very first Doctor Who episode that I ever watched and this got me hooked on the show. So I immediately watch from season 1 with the 9th Doctor afterwards.

I absolutely adored this episode when it came out, still own it on dvd. Good to see Daemon Targaryen, Crowley, Ollivander and Johanna Constantine together.
This is an exception: Their interaction doesn't result in events contradicting themselves, since the War Doctor and his next incarnation won't retain the memories. Keep in mind, other incarnations of time lords/ladies have had this happen, where they cannot retain information from when they interacted with their future selves. Edit: Long overdue.
@Tezza's Tutorials, same thought. In the old episode with Rose's father I remember Doctor telling Rose something like "whatever you do, don't touch your young self", and now this.
@Leonion6 That was because there was already a massive paradox there, Rose having saved her father. Nothing about the Doctors interacting is a direct paradox on that scale, unless they do something to alter their history, preventing the meeting from happening in the first place.

He was going to until he thought the script was just him riffing with 10 and 11. He stated that if he was to return he wanted it to be taken seriously and not just all humour. Remember he really had a bad time during Series 1 with anorexia, depression etc. I'm glad he at least consider it and yes it is a shame he was my favourite Doctor.
@@Dumbird0 Indeed. It's ironic because he thought he went over the top with the humour and took the job because RTD was writer and the show would appeal to children. He thought he overplayed the humour but he was so serious as well. Very nuanced.

I love that Ten puts on the hat, because it makes complete sense. An alien vortex opens and a hat falls out, then a lifeform emerges. The Doctor is thinking "why the hat?" maybe it serves some purpose. Maybe it helps with communicating. So what do you do with hats? You wear them. So first thing he does is put it on. Except for the fact that it doesn't help at all, serves no purpose, and just makes him look silly. That's so the Doctor.
That's probably why 11 liked the Fez. Cause 10 liked it and brought it into his next regeneration. Also because it had significant use so he needed to keep it around.
And also, this stuff is normal for him... Sooooo, in a logical sense, he will wear the fez without any questions, this stuff is basically his normal saturdays
Um, KILGRAVE! He's hands down the best and most chilling Marvel villain to date and S1 of Jessica Jones was OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH SO SO GOOD! Also - Alec from Broadchurch. Great show.Very powerful, and the chemistry with Olivia Coleman is perfect. I'd rank both of those above Barty Jr, which was basically a cameo.....but David's got such a long and wonderful list of varied characters and he is ALWAYS sublime. Never ever have I seen something where he was weak. Not to mention his stage prowess......honestly one of the greatest working actors of his generation imo.
He's also Scrooge Mcduck from Ducktales 2017 & Angus the Cow from Ferdinand. . . Seriously; Why does his Voice Sound different HERE & in the Blink Episode compared to his Scrooge Mcduck Voice?!!
If the Ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston was in the episode: 11th Doctor: "Fez incoming!" *Throws the fez through the portal* Clara: "Nothing here.." 10th Doctor: "So where did it go?.." *Fez ends up near the Ninth Doctor, he picks it up and puts it on his head* That would have been fantastic!!!

The Doctor acquiring these new personalities through regeneration, and it just compounding with their person already is just utterly amazing. These people - faces of the past, no doubt - give them a new character, but they remain themselves. Just the professional chemistry between Tennant and Smith is incredible, too. I love the ‘Ooh… lovely!’ and everything in-between. So Doctor-y.
So many people tear Moffat apart for "ruining" the Doctor's tragic association of the Time War with Gallifrey, saying it made his sacrifice completely meaningless. Too many people forget that the Doctor was in the Time War _far_ longer than the Moment he chose to save or destroy Gallifrey. Too many people don't listen to the remarks Ten and Eleven make to the War Council of Gallifrey: "Because the alternative is burning... And I've seen that... And I never want to *_see it again_*." This means that the memory of his planet burning was still *as authentic to him as his own memories of changing his timeline.* That, and the Time War lasted for 400 years of linear time. Keyword being _linear_. The Doctor could've been in the war far longer than that as "The Warrior," and he would've still experienced other planets burning. Other species dying and being killed. HIs own hands unable to sometimes do more than save his own life. Tell me again how the Doctor's sacrifice as the War Doctor and Ten and Eleven's meddling makes the actions of "The Day of the Doctor" moot.
Doctor Disco Too many people think Doctor Who should be written just for them and denigrate or ridicule certain scenes, and often the fans, for having the temerity to like what they see as it does not meet their criteria. As an example, I found this snooty and elitist behaviour very apparent during the Cybermen/Dalek “handbags at dawn” scenes in Doomsday.
There was actually a small amount of time where Galifrey was destroyed. They changed time meaning earlier episodes of the reboot had galifrey actually destroyed.
@@frazzlesreviews5379 it's not that exactly, based on what they say in this special. The thing is, when they cross into each other's timelines, a Timelord is only allowed to keep the memories of such evens on their *oldest* Regeneration, this is meant to make the paradox of him working with himself possible; this is why 10th was so confused when he saw the vortex the Moment created, but 11th was like "I remember this... almost". In order to keep the paradox from crushing them the War Doctor, the 9th and the 10th had all their memories of this event destroyed, and even the 11th only remembered them entirely after it had happened; like the 11th told the ghost hunter guy in the episode of the monster in the mansion, "the paradoxes fix themselves". The War Doctor entered that cabin with The Moment, and his memory went a little bit dizzy; right after that he regenerated into the 9th. Most likely the first thing the 9th did was run to Gallifrey since he didn't quite understand what had happened... When he got there, he didn't find a single remain of Gallifrey and a fuckton of broken dalek ships, so he made the most logical assumption: "I really did push that button; I really did kill them all".
What makes this so good is the part before where he remembers it from the 10ths point of view and almost has to act out what happened like when throwing the fez first he takes it off and looks at it like remembers it coming in first
10: (puts glasses on and squints) 11: (puts glasses on and squints) 10 & 11: (turns to look at the other while squinting; grins) 10: Oooo! Nice! 11: Ah! Lovely! 10 & 11: (squints at the portal)

I absolutely adored this episode when it came out, still own it on dvd. Good to see Daemon Targaryen, Crowley, Ollivander and Johanna Constantine together.
Took me a sec to realize what you were talking about
Prince Daemon in an alternate universe
And Milo and Kilgrave
You mean, Barty Crouch Jr. and Ollivander?
And Crowley plays with a fez in season 2 ^^
Doctor: *No I can't go back and save Rory there will be too many paradoxes*
*Later has three doctors in the same time*
This is an exception: Their interaction doesn't result in events contradicting themselves, since the War Doctor and his next incarnation won't retain the memories. Keep in mind, other incarnations of time lords/ladies have had this happen, where they cannot retain information from when they interacted with their future selves.
Edit: Long overdue.
@Tezza's Tutorials, same thought.
Tezza's Tutorials yep but there were all thirteen in this movie.
(The scene as they freeze Gallifrey)
Tezza's Tutorials It's been done 2x before, but I can't remember how they explained it.

Doctor Who is known for Plot Holes - though delusional fans might say there are none...
But that's not the point i want to call out:
The weird morality lessons here.
The Nuke-Strategy of that Boss-Lady is BRAVE.
I hope we have someone if the Situation calls for this.
I would not ever want a Leader that lets an entire Species die because of 'London City Pride' or something.
If there are other options, obviously, that's another story entirely, BUT IF the situation needs it, then of course it's good and even brave to sacrifice one nation.
I would not want to die for London Pride or some shit like that.
Weird Morality how the Doctor compares London to Gallifrey and the Nuke to a Galaxy-Destroyer - it's 2 totally different situations.
What he did, yeah, that was a Question and discussing it is interesting - but not the Nuke under London that only goes off when Earth would die otherwise. No.

Was always disappointed that Christopher Eccelston refused to come back for this anniversary special. Very unfortunate.
@@MovieMagic515 Thats a fair reason. He may have made jokes at times but he was more of a serious doctor.
@@Dumbird0 Indeed. It's ironic because he thought he went over the top with the humour and took the job because RTD was writer and the show would appeal to children. He thought he overplayed the humour but he was so serious as well. Very nuanced.
Much as I liked John Hurt, this episode will forever be imperfect because he wasn't there. I loved his turn as the Doctor, he was a fantastic choice for reviving the series!

This is a guy who spent years wearing a piece of celery. A fez is a step up when you think about it:)
Wow… David has had so much iconic characters, one in Harry Potter, as the 10th Doctor and now Crowley, and all of them are marvellous!!

Spud620 *points fingers at the glasses*
+Mikalton Ohh, lovely!
And I never want to *_see it again_*."
This means that the memory of his planet burning was still *as authentic to him as his own memories of changing his timeline.*
That, and the Time War lasted for 400 years of linear time.
