love this bit. Doctor is being pinned to the ground by secret service agents Doctor: River have you got my scanner working yet? River: I hate him Doctor: no you don't. RIVER MAKE HER BLUE AGAIN
The part in the scene where the Doctor puts his hands up really shows his desire to de-escalate the situation as soon as the others are in danger. He's confident when he's the only one in danger, but that confidence disappears when River leaves the safety of the TARDIS.

Thomas Evans they actually wanted Mark to stay on for a few more episodes but because of scheduling problems he couldn’t do it and they had to change the filming of these episodes to work around Mark because Steven wanted Mark in the episodes so bad he actually wrote the character of Canton for Mark! There’s a video of Mark and his father doing a live audience interview and Mark was asked how he got the part in Doctor Who? And he explained it all and because they didn’t have time to prep him for the older version make up etc... he said to Steven why don’t you ask my father to play the older version? And that’s how his father got the part of the older version of Canton. X

I’m always surprised that they reacted so harshly when they see him. His acting is so superb I’d probably just be annoyed someone interrupted my meeting to take notes in the background
It’s the OVAL OFFICE! They’d know who was supposed to be in there and who wasn’t, and if someone was there that shouldn’t be, of course they’d assume that person was a threat to the president!
The list of people that get into the oval office is very small. And everyone on that list is carefully vetted to make sure they aren't a threat. And every person that passes the vetting process can only be in the room for a brief period of time at exactly the time they were scheduled for. If someone is discovered inside the oval office that wasn't invited or even known about its a problem. The secret service would be immeadiately be considering the potential of security breach that could lead to a massive terrorist attack. The most unrealistic part of the their response was the fact they "froze" when the other 3 showed up. They'd probably tackle on guy, but if they find a whole squad they'd just start shooting.
The SS wouldn't have wasted time pointing a gun at an intruder in the Oval Office. They would have either shot him immediately or tackled him to the floor and immobilized him.
I choose to believe crowley is the sole reason the silence was kicked off planet earth probably because they pissed him off and ruined one of his deals
"Mister President!" That's my favourite line in this whole scene - the delivery, the accent, the guns bring raised, him having just escaped, the fact he's in the chair, and his pose in the chair.
8bennaboo no it’s because River reminds him that it was Americans who shot him before and he nearly died completely when they tried to remove the bullet and give him open heart surgery as the 7th Doctor! It’s one of the main reasons why he doesn’t like/hates guns! He only approves of River having and using one because he knows she only uses it when it’s absolutely necessary like with the silence scene when they kidnapped Amy! X
River-Phoenix Luna Pavier Those are good points, but he most definitely already knew they were Americans. He was in the WHITE HOUSE’S OVAL OFFICE for crying out loud. Not to mention, he knows what American accents sound like and that they were standing in Washington DC. He was most likely worried for River, Amy, and Rory’s safety.
Ironic and fitting he knows he's in Washington DC, the capitol of the US, and doesn't likewise realize these are Americans from the get-go. All humans look the same to him, after all.
@@Zekium well that actually was not the first time he went to America the first doctor briefly stopped of a new york city during the chase and later was in a western themed episode called the gunslingers

3:37, I like the little detail (which was prob not even intentional) that the trigger happy "bad guy" we are suppose to not like is practicing improper trigger control while the one next to him is holding the gun safely.
Love Canton's responses here. It's clear he already knows the direction the investigation needs to go before the Doctor enters. He doesn't waste time asking the Doctor about the phone call, and knows immediately which of the Doctor's requests is most relevant. He gives him the five minutes because he's already looking much further ahead than that one answer.

You have to admire and give full credit to the set and prop builders for this scene! Building a full size replica of the Oval Office and furnished exactly how it was in Nixon’s day down to having the paintings, flowers even photographs of exactly how he had the room furnished, just stunning craft and workmanship on this one set with the small budget the BBC gave them for this episode! And the Doctor makes me laugh in this scene at the beginning when he’s writing down everything that’s being said nods his head in agreement when Nixon says about not knowing if it actually something to do with the FBI because of Nixon’s shady dealings regarding watergate and when they turn and notice him the Doctor just waves his hand at the pair of them as if to say “don’t mind me, just carry on!” While still writing for a few seconds more before it registered they’re watching him! 💙🤣🤣🤣🤣
This was the season that made headlines because they filmed half of it in the States. Because of that, I have to wonder if the Oval Office pictured is not one of the permanent set pieces Hollywood keeps handy for filming presidential scenes, like perhaps the set from the TV show "The West Wing". You're right about getting time-specific furnishings, for sure.
Donald Watson yes half of it was filmed in the states but no this set isn’t one that is stored over there! there’s a behind (you might be able to find it on UA-cam if someone’s uploaded it, I’m not sure!?!) the scenes video on the DVD extras and it shows you them doing a lot of research of what it looked like in Nixon’s day, got as much information they could and then it showed them building the whole room to size from scratch it took just under three weeks to research, design, build and get the room/set spot on perfect of how Nixon had everything even down to a personal pen that was his father’s they made a replica one that Nixon always had on his desk when he was in the Oval Office. X
They just used the Tardis to go back to when Nixon was in office and filmed the scene right in the actual Oval Office. They had to film late at night to avoid security.
The silence don't want you to remember. The weeping angels don't want you to blink. That weird thing in that episode with the bank in it doesn't want you to think. WHAT CAN I DO??!?!!???!!!!

Doctor: (briefly looks over his shoulder before returning to his map) "Right, and where's my Fez?"
I love how The Doctor is taking notes and it takes him a minute to realize that they’re staring at him and he tells them to continue
"Thanks Canton"
"If he doesn't, I'll shoot him myself"
"Not so thanks.."
lololo
“Jefferson Adams Hamilton”
............. if this child becomes the combination of all three.... we’re all doomed XD
AND Peggy...
“It’s a police box, can’t you read?”
Did you just sass the president?
Probably one of my favorite scenes ever...
I love the Doctors change of expression after River says they are Americans. lol That was just too funny.
He knew that from the start, he overheard nixon, and recognizes the oval office.
I love his little "Oh go on" at 00:52 . Total oblivious to how they must react seeing him.
Love this exchange:
Canton: I say we give him five minutes see if he delivers.
Doctor: Thanks Canton
Canton: If he doesn't, I'll shoot him myself..
Doctor: Not so thanks
Mich 1404. I read your comment, by coincidence, at the same time those lines were being said in the video!
My favourite bit is:
Mr Nixon, that man walked in here with a big blue box and three of his friends. And that's the man he walked past. One of them's worth listening to.
Blackblood 909
What a burn.
FBI training in action.
I can’t be the only person who thinks that Canton could’ve made a good companion in _literally any other_ situation? Like, imagine his professional, sassy and FBI-style personality paired with Jodie’s Doctor 😂
If only Old Canton hadn’t said he only met the Doctor twice in his life... *Sigh...*
love this bit. Doctor is being pinned to the ground by secret service agents
Doctor: River have you got my scanner working yet?
River: I hate him
Doctor: no you don't.
More to do with the fact he'd just been telling them how they couldn't shoot him and river burst out warning him that they're Americans.
@@VladtheInhaler *[Flashbacks to the Seventh Doctor's regeneration]*
when i first read this i thought, well of course he's confident, he can just regenerate. before I remembered he's out of regenerations at this point.
@KVAcedo27 ah, I see, kind of a retcon but whatever
No its because River reminds him that Seppos are gun happy morons
"I'm going to need a SWAT team ready to mobilize, street level maps covering all of Florida, a pot of coffee, 12 jammy dodgers and a fez". Best...quote...EVER!! :D
2:15 is one of my all time favorite scenes/quotes ever. I fell off my chair in a fit of laughter when I first saw it. xD
"Do you really think you can just shoot me?"
-"THEY'RE AMERICANS!"
"Don't shoot! Definitely no shooting!"
2:00
“Mister President,”
Guns immediately aim at him
The King of Hell helping a Time Lord...never would've guessed. :/
Thats why he seemed familiar, I couldent remember where he was from.
+Black Genesis seriously! You can't recognize Crowley?
Sigrid Hansen Its been a while since I saw suprnatural
***** Exactly
+melody xx I LOVE YOU SO MUCH
"Mister President!" The way the Doctor says that and smiles... priceless!
"This is the Oval office! I was looking for the... Oblong... Room..."
...Is that a Discworld reference?
well when 10 regenerates he mentions Arthur Dent from hitch hikers guide to the galaxy so i wouldnt be surprised
There's an eldritch room in the white house??
I like The Eleventh Doctors first costume more than his second one.
But still bow ties are cool
And the round things.
the round things. I love the round things. What are they?
Jamie Rawson No idea.
Cameron Macleod Do you mean the Series 5 tweed vs the Series 6 tweed? Or the Series 5/6 outfit vs the Series 7 outfit?
Had 11 stayed on for longer, it would have been cool to have Canton back as a recurring character.
Well there's a 40 odd year gap of possibilities and Steven Moffat has left Cantons departure open ended...so we can't dismiss anything.
I hear that Canton got a new job as the King of Hell. :)
MrMyster1ous I loved the chemistry between 11 and Canton though.
Don't like 12. :(
Thomas Evans they actually wanted Mark to stay on for a few more episodes but because of scheduling problems he couldn’t do it and they had to change the filming of these episodes to work around Mark because Steven wanted Mark in the episodes so bad he actually wrote the character of Canton for Mark! X
When the TARDIS appears, you can almost hear the old girl say, "Now that you can see me, I STRONGLY suggest you get off my Doctor......Now."
Crowley here ?....where is Winchesters ?
This is pure evidence of Superwholock.
+Wrózbita Jakub My thoughts exactly xD I'll never look at this episode the same again,
Love the comment by the way 😃
Love this
crowley is everywhere. how else could he become the king of hell without connections and knowledge?
"They're Americans!"
"DON'T SHOOT!"
Moffat is brilliant at the subtle satire, isn't he... Especially in these episodes... I love it! :)
giligara30492 Moffat is a TERRIBLE writer, "Asylum of the Daleks" proves my point.
I wasn't referring to his writing over all. Just the satire he puts in it sometimes. I do agree with you about 'Asylum of The Daleks.'
I actually really liked that episode. What are y'all smoking?
sad they never gave canton his own series I loved his character
Matt Smith was absolutely sublime as The Doctor
Wow. Mark Sheppard with an American accent is so strange to here. So different. I like it.
Like benedict cumberbatch
Pink Flamingo Butt you know it’s actually Mark who does the voiceover for adverts for BBC America? He speaks with a deep American accent in all of them. X
To hear
Unfortunately because the only time I’ve seen Mark Sheppard is in Supernatural, I can only hear the English-Scottish accent, even in this.
@@decimation9780 He's also in Leverage and Firefly with his accent (perhaps a bit accentuated for Firefly :) )
The Doctor: "Think you can shoot me?"
River Song: "Their Americans!"
The Doctor: "Don't shoot! definitely don't shoot!"
Me: Lol XD
They're*
Me: Yippy kai yay, Doctor, yippy kai yay * smirk *
*luhl eckssdeeee*
Not in need of getting shot
I was looking for this comment
Still miss 11.
Why? He was cool but just as cool as 12
Why? He was cool but 12 is just as cool
n8 How dare you!!
how dare I what? Like 12?
n8 Say he's as good as 11?! Blasphemy! ;)
They would have either shot him immediately or tackled him to the floor and immobilized him.
my man doesnt realise its the fucking oval room
@@hamsterfromabove8905 No training can prepare you for 3 people exiting a police box that just materialized from thin air
I choose to believe crowley is the sole reason the silence was kicked off planet earth probably because they pissed him off and ruined one of his deals
They had his belly minds nipping at their heels
"Mister President!"
That's my favourite line in this whole scene - the delivery, the accent, the guns bring raised, him having just escaped, the fact he's in the chair, and his pose in the chair.
"Do not compliment the intruder"
LMAO
"Time's up"
"Yeah, and where is my fez?"
1:15, the Doctor crashes into the invisible Tardis, yet the pencil goes right through it.
psychic pencil XD
How the fuck does nobody question what the fuck he crashed into?
"They're Americans." Hands go back up. LOL!! Btw, that is Mark Shepherd. He just needs to guest star in Sherlock, and Superwholock will be real!
I think that was because his friends appeared, he knew they were american from the start.
Broke: Eleven raised his hands because they were pointing guns at River
Woke: Eleven raised his hands because he found out they were Americans
..
Vibin: Both are true
Well... I guess he remembered what's happened the first seconds he went to USA (Doctor Who 1996's movie).
This is 11's most underrated episode. It's brilliant!
Doktor: "You think you can just shoot me?"
River: "THEY ARE AMERICANS!"
Doktor: "DON'T SHOOT! Definitely don't shoot!"
Well he knew they were americans, because he knew he was in the oval office
I think he trusted his own regeneration survivability in the face of revolver rounds more than that of River's.
It's because of Amy ad Rory, that the guns became a problem.
@@8bennaboo In the scale of the vast majority of the universe, I'm sure America is just a blip to The Doctor. Hell, America might be as vague as a damn county in Utah!
He got scared because his seventh regeneration was cut short by an American shooting him
"THEY'RE AMERICANS!"
yeah, that about sums it up.
As an American, I can confirm this 😂
Crowley! Why is the king of hell helping the Doctor?
Probably cause the previous Doctor(David Tennant) got rid of the previous king of hell in "The Satan Pit".
TheHysteriaMan I see what you did there
To help Richard Nixon of course.
"RIVER MAKE HER BLUE AGAIN!" Favourite bit
I seriously dont think that there is any Doctor Who Scene more amazing then this one. I cant get over how much I love this.
Rory the Roman asking the Cybermen ""Where is my wife?""
Canton Everett Delaware The Third is like the new Captain Jack!
2:42 ''I hate you.''
"No, you don't."
3:37, I like the little detail (which was prob not even intentional) that the trigger happy "bad guy" we are suppose to not like is practicing improper trigger control while the one next to him is holding the gun safely.
3:13
"Mr president batman is a clear and present danger"
*that man
😂😂
”And a fez”
Thats my favorite part
Props to the editor for freezing Matt Smith for ~1.5 seconds at the end to make the video 4:20 long :D
I love at 0:51 where the doctor waves his hand like, he forgot he wasn't supposed to be there
Love Canton's responses here. It's clear he already knows the direction the investigation needs to go before the Doctor enters. He doesn't waste time asking the Doctor about the phone call, and knows immediately which of the Doctor's requests is most relevant. He gives him the five minutes because he's already looking much further ahead than that one answer.
Yo that’s the high evolutionary
2:45 - GOD I loved it when the music started and you knew that it was going to get amazing!
12 Jammy Dodgers and a FEZ
later
Canton: "Your five minutes are up, Doctor."
Doctor: "Yeah, and where's my Fez?"
Fezes are cool

**Googles Jammie Dodgers**
Jammie Dodgers are a popular British biscuit, made from shortbread with a raspberry flavoured jam filling. They are currently produced by Burton's Biscuit Company at its factory in Llantarnam
and they can blow up Dalek spaceships, according to the Doctor.

I love the "I hate you - No, you don`t" thing between the Doctor and River!
Crowley works for the president? No wonder the government is literal hell. 😂
"How'd you get that in here? You didn't carry it."
"Clever ayy?"
"Love it!"
3:04
This two parter was the best modern Doctor Who story to ever air.
"Don't shoot us either! Very much not in need of getting shot. Look we've got our hands up!" Rory you always crack me up
I love it when the president and Canton turn to look at the Doctor in awe and he just waves his hand casually like: 'Carry on then.'
There is a butterfly in the room.
Doctor: *thinking he’s not gonna get shot*
River: THEY’RE AMERICANS
Doctor: OHHHH *puts up hands*
3:01
The guy on the middle right has the worst aim ever 😂
I think that every actor in that Oval Office is British, some doing their best American accents.
The actor playing Nixon is from Boston, but he does work in Britain.
Max Levine And the guy that plays Crowley from supernatural.
skyguy713 he was also in an episode of Star Trek: Voyager
kylephantom4
And Firefly.

The silence don't want you to remember.
The weeping angels don't want you to blink.
That weird thing in that episode with the bank in it doesn't want you to think.
WHAT CAN I DO??!?!!???!!!!
Actually, the Weeping Angels DO want you to blink, or else they can't kill you
Run?
Don't forget Deep breath
Chris Deleon so i guess not allowed to breathe either

The Doctor-River dialogue in this episode gets me every time
Matt Smith was simply awesome! For such a young actor he has amazing presence!
