  • We choose four pedals for each other while playing each other’s main guitar and amp. What could possibly go right?
Life too short for long UA-cam videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below.
Welcome to the show. Regular viewers will know that Dan and I both have a strong 'home' when it comes to our main guitars and amps. In Dan’s case it’s a Fender Telecaster and his Matchless C30 amp. For me it’s a Stratocaster and my Two Rock Classic Reverb Signature. People have been asking how we might fare playing each other’s main gear… so that's what we're doing. And just to make it more interesting, we also choose four pedals for one another that will hopefully challenge and inspire in equal measure.
Join us as we go through the selection process and skate out on to the thin ice of each other’s gear.
    Enjoy the episode!

I love this idea as a periodic series. Maybe future episodes could be something like "build a genre specific board" or "simulate a problem at a gig and make do as best you can board", etc. Keep up the good work, D&M!

I never quite noticed that Mick never plays a Tele. They both switch out guitars, but Mick never grabs a Tele and Dan never grabs a Strat. Funny! It looks so alien in Dan's hands, and like he wishes someone would please just give him back his Strat! Haha! Great, fun video guys! Thanks so much!!!!!

One big plus of Lockdown is that I get to watch the show as it's released, rather than waiting until the weekend. Downside is of course that I then want more content immediately :) A great show, and an interesting insight into why certain guitars in my collection feel like "home" and others feel challenging and awkward. Dan You mentioned Burns, I have a double 6 in greenburst and it's my second home after my LP copy ('56 Goldtop by Epiphone with American designed P90s). Thanks for educating me and inspiring me to play more and do more with electric guitar :)

  • @Yupppi
    @Yupppi 4 роки тому +3

The way you guys approach each other's rigs is interestingly different! Dan is attempting to find the best fit to what Mick uses normally (maybe since he's so used to providing that service in Gigrig), while Mick is trying to find something that Dan would like but out of his usual zone! Both very satisfying results.
Finally got my OCD today, thanks to you guys for another great tool in the kit! It's interesting how every time you change one setting or pickup, it feels like the response changes and you need to figure it out again. And feels like returning to the previous isn't the same anymore. It's very exciting. I now have 11 drives/boosters and craving for a couple more. And that's just he basic types like klon, ts, marshall in a box, treble booster etc etc. I think I had two before watching the show. And I regret none of them, they've improved my life and sounds and brought interesting understanding to gain and playing. Also 11 other basic effects, same can be said about them. Before the show I only had crybaby wah and SD-1. The nights in the mood have been amazing.

I would like to start a petition to get you guys to switch guitars more often!!! PLEASE! Dan’s playing on the Strat was absolutely inspiring, and Mick’s touch and sensitivity was magnified by the Tele! I’ve always thought that Mick sounded awesome on a Tele since the first time I heard it (probably for a brief second on the ultimate overdrives shootout) and Dan completely surprised me with how connected he played through the Strat. This episode, although fairly “gear” oriented really inspired me to go get lost in my playing and pedals! Love you guys!

This episode really shows that gear isn't just gear, there's way more to it. There are a mixture of tangibles and intangibles that drive us to find the sounds that inspire us to play, which is thankfully achievable in this golden age of gear. Great episode chaps!

Strange that the strat didn't sound like a strat to me when Dan first started playing it. It sounded like a tele. My brain is so used to hearing him play a tele it filled that spot in my ears/head for me for a few moments.

Chuck Robertson I totally heard that too! I would like a strat if I played it that way!

Love the premise and the show. But what I REALLY loved was fantasizing myself in that room with all those pedals to choose from!. "Hmmm . . . let's see . . . I'll try one of these, and one of those, and one of these" *drool*

    It’s a brilliant experiment..

it’s always good but just exemplary here..!

I find it interesting that Dan made the strat sound like a tele, but the tele sounded very much like a tele in Mick's hands. Almost as interesting as the decision to move the amps rather than sit on opposite sides for an entire episode! Regardless, this was a great demonstration of how important the player is in the signal chain. Good idea, well executed!

There were some very inspiring tones here guys! I like how the episode drove home the difference guitars make , not just in sound , but feel and note choice and the interplay with the pedals. I know you guys have talked about the Oil Can delays, but can you please explain where/why that type would be useful, it sounded lovely!

10 seconds in and so pumped. Keeping Australia sane lads. When normality kicks in possible to do a Lovepedal ep? Loving the home recording vlogs. Rock🤘

As much as you can appreciate the thought that went into the selections, given both D&M’s abilities as players and tone sculptors, I wonder whether they could successfully get a great tone out of any four pedals? Maybe a future similar episode with a blindfolded selection of pedals and then dialling in a tone you would be happy to use? Would be be really useful to us tone hacks seeing how you go about this.

Ok so now I am at Mick, wow! The tele suits you well! And vice versa, Dan with a strat is really lovely!

I really enjoyed this challenge on multiple levels, it would be cool to see you boys do it again or something similar but with a go each playing to a backing track.
