- Time for a bit of fun with a food-inspired pedalboard
Welcome to the show! Somewhere amid the deeply serious work of tone exploration, we do, on occasion, feel the need for a bit of levity. Thusly, every now and again there will be a little challenge theme just for the , erm, halibut.
Anyway, so today’s challenge is to put together a pedalboard capable of a nice wide variety of tones… albeit inspired by the dishes in a three-course meal.
So, waiter, will there a be a fly-board in my soup? Let’s find out…
Enjoy the show!

Happy TPS day folks.
“I’m going to need those TPS reports on my desk, by end of day.”
@@CorbCorbin 😂😂😂😂😂 yes boss.
I’d love to see an episode where you both walk us through the entire TPS pedal collection and pick out your collective favourites and demo them
Yes! I was thinking the same thing. The TPS vault tour.
@@marcogman8905 Yes! TheTPS vault tour!
Isn't that every TPS episode?!
@@Cameron655 We need a deep dive into the vault...ala Geraldo Rivera. LOL
Yes! i would love a TPS tour!
Best way to delay my writing every Friday. Thanks boys!
When I heard the premise, my mind just went straight to the old Danelectro food series mini pedals. 20 course meal 😂
Same here. Whomever has these is set for this challenge.
No-one is worse than Mick at hiding his disenchantment at amp tone. Dan is always overly effusive about every amp (or indeed pedal) that crosses his path, until the bubble pops. Mick just gets progressively more miserable - unless he's hearing 106db of clean headroom - until defaulting to down-turned mouth pentatonic hand flapping. I love this channel.
Haaaa! Yes quite. I hope I wasn’t too rude about the Big Chopper - it’s a truly marvellous thing in the right hands. Ie not mine! Sorry Steve!
Thank you lads, this made my holiday, day off worth it. “Wind through the Jeans,” killed me, oh Dan, such a prankster.
: )
Nice one guys!! 🙌 Thanks so much for taking the ‘Chicken Quiff’ for a spin 🐔❤
As soon as Mick searched for an amp i immediately thought about Mesa Boogie, Mesa in Portuguese is Table so eating your meal on a table makes all the sense in the world for me :)
“Chicken curry…because you’ve got a fart and a greeting”😂😂😂
You guys are the best!
I must admit, I'm surprised no one used any Way Huge pedals .. i mean .. Swollen Pickle, Pork&Pickle, Pork Loin, Fat Sandwich, Saffron Squeeze.. and so on 🤣
Shalom and wind through the jeans. Classic!
“Sorry I touched your knob” “that’s okay mate” had me 😂
The wind through the jeans gag literally just made me spit coffee on my pedalboard
The proper way to watch TPS! Coffee and pedalboard within reach.
Dan, you had me at “Plum Tuna”. Brilliant! After that, the rest was gravy….(see what I did there?) 😀
At first I thought Dan was going to put the Halo and Hot Cake together for his dessert ( Angel Food Cake). Such a fun episode and now I have to figure out how to rearrange my board for a more perfect meal.
For future reference Mesa is Spanish for "table".
1:46 Dan literally does the Leonardo Dicaprio meme face; incredible.
The Comfortably Plum and the Hot Cake were the stars of the show. They sound great.
When Dan went for the Wind Through the Trees I thought he mistook it for the Horsemeat!
Everything comes out of the kitchen! Nice!
the lemon pedal sounded incred in the last video, the amp was definitely working against Mick, who I feel won the challenge despite Dan's merciless bending of the rules
The Hot Cake at the end of the chain is absolutely amazing. It basically becomes part of the amp drive there. I use an EHX Hot Tubes for a similar thing (because I can't afford endless amps and am usually rehearsing on other people's)
Dan just wanted to use those two pedals at all costs ... love it ... they do sound great.
If you’re concerned about the dual lock damaging the finish on the bottom of your pedal, I take off the bottom plate and run strips of gaffer tape across the base of the pedal. Then I put the velcro onto the tape. If you wrap the tape over the lip of the plate a bit, the mechanical pressure of the case against the lid will help keep the gaffer tape solidly in place when pulling the pedal off the board. If you ever want to remove the velcro, the gaffer tape will come off clean without damaging the finish. (It can pull off stickers like serial numbers, though.)
This is a fantastic idea, thank you! I imagine it could also help with the pesky rubber bottoms of Boss pedals.
@@natepopodi4770 sure does! Although it will definitely take the sticker off so if you’re particular about that put a piece of paper or something over the sticker before putting the tape on.
So happy to see the Audio Kitchen.
Love these! Please do more challenges!
You could have "Two Rocks" in your whisky aperatif!
I found myself watching this like it was live TV and didn't want to walk away,....so I didn't. Loved it.
Thanks TPS!
Two amazing boards. Very impressed. Thanks
Really enjoyed the added walkabout shots in the studio. the sound quality on all of your video's is top notch.
Thank you kindly!
This is an early Christmas present 💝 Thanks gents, love challenges!
Dans plum chicken curry has to be the best tone I have heard on this show ever. truly special.
I LOVE challenge shows, probably my favorite TPS format over the years.
It’s always fascinating to see how each of you is inspired to approach the challenge from different directions,
how you both are genuinely giddy anticipating the other’s reaction to your choices,
and even when something doesn’t work as expected, we all learn something valuable.
May there be many more!
In the mean time, we can always go back to the epic “out of your comfort zone” challenge…
I love these challenge videos!
Love these pedalboard challenges!
Brilliant episode - great fun and awesome tones all round.
LOVE THE PEDAL CHALLENGES!
Makes us all think about the big points in a gig set-up.
What works and what is superfluous. LETS SEE WHAT ACTUALLY MATTERS.
Thank you Mick and Dan for your great help and advice , you have done wonders for my Mental Health, just by watching your videos and others like it has kept me away from TV which im dam sure was not helping my mental health. So yes a big massive THANKS
Three Course Meal..very timely for us in the USA- (post -Thanksgiving meal). Nice.
Mick- brilliant episode, perfectly demonstrates the importance of ‘everything matters’- every piece of gear you chose was individually excellent- but perhaps didn’t shine to their best in the combined context. I love chocolate but it doesn’t go with my fillet steak. You guys are doing a stellar job.
Great video. Loved the little amp tour there Mick. Happy Holidays!
Wonderful video!
I love pedalboard challenges !!!
Mick's long jam with the Delay Llama and the Harmonic Percolator clone reminded me of the guitar sound on "Perth" by Bon Iver; it's a sound with a lot of potential for rough edges that's reined in and let out by a careful touch
@@RaymondGinn1978 I'm not super into most gain circuits but I think the hype is well-deserved for this one.
the danelectro food series was a massive snub
These 'Challenge Videos' are one of my favourite types of videos you do! Always brilliantly entertaining! Cheers from Canada's East Coast!
Enjoyed!!
Had me in hysterics, a much needed TPS. Thanks guys!
I have to say that I haven't laughed out loud LOL on a pedal board build EVER. Good show! Good Show!
32:05 got me good. Great to hear the Hot Cake in all its glory!
Thanks guys, lots of fun. Was sure Dan was going to rename the Halo to Haloumi. :)
Hilarious !! Nicely played guys !!
I feel a non-challenge could be more fun. The "Take the day off" challenge, where you both spend the day playing with gear that the other is quite enthusiastic about that you've not had a chance to discuss properly together.
"Total indigestion" Poor Mick! There where great bits, there!
That Tele dinner was filling... 👍🔥🎸🎼🙏
Thanksgiving here in the US. Perfect timing for this. Well done.
The Delay Llama IS Brillant 😎🇬🇷🎼🎸👍👌👏👏👏😉
Another absolute classic! Really enjoy this format, and getting both of you a little out of your comfort zones always produces excellent, unexpected results. Keep on tonally exploring, it inspires and challenges me in all the right ways. Loving NPD, though it is giving me significant gas for fuzz which is the one effect I don't have any example of on my board :(
The return of the pedal challenge! Great job gents, I love this content!
2 mins in and I'm already grinning. Love it.
Once again
Y’all make me feel at home 🤘
Man, this is like the 4th episode based on pedals in the past 3 weeks!!!
I love the new format!
I love the playfulness of this
This was hilarious guys! Thanks so much for doing it!
You guys are awesome, gotta get that flanger and a lama
I'd love to see Paul's reaction to the Wind Through The Jean's! Great show mates, had a great laugh and great tones.
A TPS PRS limited run!
Great job, loved the video, and both boards were magic. "Wind through the jeans" was awesome. I also noticed the Lemon Audio pedal had a sputter control. In the terms of a nice meal, who doesn't love a little sputter on their biscuits? Great stuff guys.
Wind through the jeans got me, bravo.
“Wind through the jeans” 🤣 I see I’m not the only one who creatively renames things! (Try dropping or changing a letter on packages. You’ll find some hillarious stuff!)
Fun show! The only food-related pedal I have is the ol' Danelectro Tuna Melt tremolo. Have had it for as long as I can remember.
SoundLad Scran pedal would have been ideal!
I smelled the fart-joke during the labeling. So funny. :)
Thanks for this great episode 😂
Thanks guys for the stomach hurting laughs I just had. Also, from this day on forward, I will never be able to look at my pedalboard the same way. I’ve got a muffuletta which even has the sandwich on it. I think I’m gonna have to sell it or I will have to laugh during every song when I look at it.
Pi
If only you had not just a Crowther Hot Cake, but also a Crowther Prunes and Custard, but it needs to be located just before the Wind Through The Jeans pedal.
New challenge! Any piece equipment for home use but with fixed effects! For the beginner musicians.
Part of my family didn't show for Thanksgiving yesterday. Now you are here. Day late but that is ok. Serving up a great show today. Thanks
I was watching the war for months now. I forgot about you guys. I'm glad I came back you guys cracked me up
great fun guys enjoyed it muchly... that lemon job is stellar sounding isn't it ... @Mick I have the delay llama extreme and use the preset control box which helps - in my mind at least - separate the presets from the tweaks and custom sounds ... so effectively you've got full preset access and the tap/hold control box separate and then the main box I only touch when using the black alt button to access the secondary functions that the knobs have. ... there ya go explained as clear as Mississippi Mud Pie... you'll get the hang of it.
Hawaiian Pizza needs an appearance
My 3 course: Cornerstone Gladio> Source Audio Collider> T.C. Electronics Ditto. 😊
Great episode, loved it. I think, all that Mick played was very good and very tasty, I think, when he hear it back, he will be less grumpy about the lack of headroom.
Interesting thing, the Delay Llama is analog delay, but sounds almost exactly the same as my TRex Replicator Jr 😲
My Delay Llama Xtreme does the same cross talk thing when first powered up. If you engage the pedal and then turn it off again it stops. Also the modes you scrolled through are presets that can be edited using the black button to the right of the footswitch.
Great episode, really enjoyed it :) that audio kitchen amp sounds brilliant to my ears.
Surely you'd go for the Findus 'Horsemeat' lasagne...
I see the PRS Mira and Dan's white Tele in the background and can't help but thinking that they could use some love!
Wind Through the Jeans, live at O2 Arena.
Any excuse to get the pedals out is fine with me... but great to see you guys sittin there with those guitars that you 'always wanted'.
Masterfull Dan!
Great idea to put the Jam delay lama x-treme for dessert. completely counter-intuitive in its use (especially in pitch shifting mode, the one I prefer), it offers incredible possibilities once tamed. one of my irreplaceable pedals...
Malekko Spring Chicken > Main Course
Big Muff Pie > Desert
Rat > Starter
Cannibals will have a Memory Man for a main course.
There was a cheese reference in the Wallace (and Grommit)
After thanksgiving here in the states I can assure you there has been quite a bit of Wind Through the Jeans..... Well done gentlemen!!
Dan said something that I thought was very interesting and was thinking it might be a good topic. "The pedal needs a good service". Was wondering what I could do for storing pedals and maybe things I could do or watch for to keep my pedals in good working order. Thanks love the show.
Don’t worry Mick, we all have off weeks! That one might’ve been a case of form over function. Well done Dan for the actual board and tones. Bravo for TPS as always. Also happy Thanksgiving for those celebrating it.
Mick I have the Delay Llama extreme as well and love it. But I kicked it off my board for the standard Delay Llama for the same reason. I can't freaken remember what everything does especially the modes. It's a great analog delay, it just is more than my feeble mind can remember.
Great show guys, your on a roll!
Thanks Gordon
This is why I love the Chase Bliss Thermae. Same pitch shifting magic, incredible tones, and PRESETS so when you find a cool sound you can save it and be done.
@@RobFlaxMusic I am not a fan at all of digital pedals. I design high end digital stuff and all of these pedals sound like crap. I have a bunch of them in my pile right now. You could easily do a full analog pedal with MIDI control and setup.
@@gordonrankin3995 By and large I agree-I use digital pedals out of necessity, but prefer analog signal path whenever possible. Thermae, however, is exactly that: fully analog signal path, with digital controls. Nowadays CBA is making more digital stuff, but the Thermae (and their other older pedals) are fully analog.
Tuna, Pi(e) Muffeletta, Horse Meat, Soul Food, Orange
I thought Dan was saying, "Plum Tuner" at first and I was so confused. 😂
For goodness sake. I'm just catching up on things after some US holiday travels and this episode is why I'd never miss a single TPS. The challenges are always such great fun and the further the "rules" stretch, the better. Everyone is true to form, from Mick's disdain of the Hughes and Kettner to Dan's windy consequences of Bondi curry. (not the first reference, as I recall) Coincidentally, I was playing with the Hot Cake and Morgan AC20 yesterday and it is a special thing indeed. Not the same through the Magnatone but the Hot Cake is sometimes the very reason the AC20 gets switched on. They're magic in combination. Cheers, guys.
Lovely fun, chaps - well batted, especially Mrs Taylor!
Had one of you used a baritone, you could have had a Lettieri-inspired deep sea fish course perhaps?
JHS would have offered Pulp n Peel smoothies for a late brunch served with Banana Boost followed by Steak n Eggs, washed down with Sweet Tea. Had the chat continued, a snack course of Cheeseballs before a Honey Comb pud washed down with Moonshine perhaps?
Hope Mr Thorpey didn't put you off as he gnawed on his Warthog while you ate!
