For years, Angry Charlie just had the Electric Mistress on the side. Hidden under the pedal board. They still had the RAT on the board though, i.e., the dodgy brother Andrew. Angry Charlie's second son Harry rebelled and went for a digital model from the USA.
Episode idea: Let Patrons vote on a list of pedals we want you to re-visit or spend more time on. The Mythbusters show used to do this thing where people could write in and explain how they should test their experiment differently and get different results. Something like that.
Dan's thoughtful expression when he listens to others play is inspirational in and of itself. It's clear he's always paying attention and always appreciative of what others are bringing to the table. A true gentleman and player!
Thanks for the proper laff lads. These themed shows are great, please don’t ever be afraid to throw more of these light hearted shows in the mix. Part of what makes TPS great!
A lot of these principles have shaped the evolution of my rig over the last few years. The main takeaway I have is that my tone is overall bigger and broader. The how to use the pedals stuff is far more fundamental than which particular device(s) you use. Thanks guys!
Genuinely lolled at Dan’s choices. Disappointed that neither of you had an orange/ginger pedal on the board which was then removed. You guys also needed a brian may Queen guitar....
What a way to get free ticket to Australia :). But one must be true to himself and Dan was :). I think the most questionable was Alter Ego, but he clearly said he loves it so no issues there. But in a positive way, if one alters his ego, even as a King, it is the most honourable thing to do. So good points there m8 ! .)
What makes this channel great can be completely summed up by the child like joy on Dan's face when Mic says "why do I have a felling this is going to be tenuous"
I played in a heavy, but very dynamic band, playing VERY loudly. Our band was stupid loud. The drive level on my pedal never hit 9 o’clock. The notes would sing/take off just like Dan’s here. Brilliant the relationship between the guitar and amp at those levels. Regal, indeed (fitting today’s theme).
First off Dan's commitment to the hat-on-a-hat bit was commendable, but then he cancelled that out with the 'Camilla-toe' comment putting an image in my head I did not want there lol, cheers for all you do guys ^_^
As a descendant of the Scottish diaspora, I'm actually pretty pumped for the coronation. Plus, you guys recently convinced me that I needed a Nobels odr1, so there's that.
I just kept thinking, as good as Mick’s rig sounds in my room, what must it sound like in that room? I have to believe that the two amp setup is one of the best moments for those lucky enough to attend an experience day.
How to sound like Mick Taylor: Literally play E7sus2-F#/D-G(add9) or Gmaj chords on any clean amp with any guitar, preferably a Strat. Everytime I hear that progression, i can't not hear the song Outride a Crisis from Super Hang-On from Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. I haven't heard more of this progression from Mick in any other video on this channel.
This was the best show ever - hilarious, plus great tones. I can imagine you two dreaming up this plot over your Meat-feast supper one Friday evening! 👏🏻👏🏻
The dip into “inform, eDuCaTe, and INSPIRE” BBC voice, seamlessly segued to “anyway ywanna have a drink?” so thoroughly established the perfectly casual tone as much as the abovementioned excellent gags!
Brilliant and hilarious episode! Just like when overdrive needs to be recalibrated for when the amp is made louder, the same could be said for wet dry; as the second/dry amp is introduced, the wet FX on the other side could be made to be more wet. Love it
As an American, if having an outdated morarchial system gets this content from the true guitar kings of UA-cam, then im all for it. All hail the King(s) D&M
For a while there it was a breath of the mighty Pythons 😂, although their version would probably have dove into medieval multi-behead delay more! Creative, inspiring as always and bloody funny!! 😂😂
Hey mick and Dan Fred here from Brooklyn NY. Love the show and I can't tell you guys how much I have learned from the show about dialing in a great tone with pedals and amp control. Keep up the good work and talk soon...
Quick note on the Diamond - it’ll run happily at 18v if that’s an easier option. To my ear it sounds a tiny bit darker at 18v but that might be in my mind. Just got to make sure it’s running centre positive. Also, as a fellow Aussie, love the choices Dan! 😂
PRS is built in Queen Anne's County, Maryland (Maryland named in honor of the Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland, Henrietta Maria of France (aka Queen Mary, begrudgingly).
From time to time, i still go back watch the 30th anniversary custom 24 demo that Mick did for Guitarist......its just wow....wish that would be released as a song.....that piece if music, the playing and the tone.....wow!!!
I was thinking of Keeley's blue (blooded) Hydra - cut off one head and there are several more to worry about. Also a great opportunity to bring out the King of the Britains and a Lizard Queen.
Happy King Day! Great advice Dan, about volume and the amount of gain to use, this was something I learned by trial & error, to turn down the gain when upping the amp volume in order to acheive a great tone and keep dynamics etc..Good Stuff!
Dan's explanation of gain vs. volume is why I cannot switch to a direct to board tone generating device, instead of a good old fashion tube amp. Ok, I would use a Quilter or an AMP1 in a pinch. I despise the sound of a guitar coming through wedge monitors, and through in ears there os no feedback loop.
Hey Mick! I think the reason you were having problems with the Boonar before this video was because even though the buffered mode was on, you had it in a true bypass looper. Every time you switched to that loop, no matter if the pedal was on or bypassed the phase would flip. In this video, because it’s not in a loop, the Boonar has a constant phase flip, allowing the humdinger to compensate. I hope this explanation makes sense!
We do it sometimes. But me and Dan jamming is pretty horrible. We have very different harmonic expectation. Hahaha. And our timing meters are totally different. Add bass and drums and it gets much better!
Flanger before gain stage is easily on of my favorite tones. Also, turn the rate all the way off on the flanger and you have an AMAZING filter by adjusting the delay time. You can get some super cool and cutting drive tones with that.
Love the wet/dry. But I’d love to see that same example in a totally mono environment. Lots of people play where there is only a mono system. Great sounds, great show.
I demo it just mono. But as I explained, I’ll always use two amps wherever is possible. I would advocate that everyone else in the world does too. Cheers!
Thanks for your reply! Yes, two amps but biaural rather than true stereo. I run two amps in church in a totally mono system. Wet effects only in one amp, except for a bit of reverb.
Another great episode lads! I'd really love to see a partscaster challenge! I know it would be an investment, but wouldn't it be fun? Mick's guitar mag experience and obsession for details vs. Dan's creative engineering brain! Truly, what could go wrong?
I've been on a recent journey to do my first pedal board and making my own cables to the correct length. So any time you're making your own boards, i'm paying close attention and have no idea how you can get them so neat. Quick aside: saw Crowded House in Seattle this week, really cool, but i did think when Neil Finn was changing some of his pedal settings, "thats probably the board Dan made for him". Excellent night of music. Eddie Vedder was sat directly in front of me enjoying it too.
One of you would’ve definitely earned bonus points for adding a Menaphon King of the Britains. I’ve been interested in trying one since seeing it as the main overdrive on Chris Cornell’s pedalboard on an old rig rundown.
Ah, The Boonar! Love it! Only problem is it hasn't got tap tempo (nor tempo input). Angry Charlie (Prince Charles?) and the Electric Mistress (not to be named), just brilliant Dan!
Great video once again. Fun and useful facts. For me timing to view this is perfect. I am going to have a weekend with a new band setup and I have a new louder amp and been wondering the effect behavour compared to less loud usual setup I play. Dans volume part nailed it for me on gain and delay usage. Thanks! (Btw loud is relative. I have gone from 1 to 25 W 😉)o
The comedy is I actually did Spanish GCSE in about 1992 ish. These days I can identify ‘corazon’ and ‘quando’ in every Spanish language song ever written. Our friend Sarah lives in Spain and I always love going there. I feel bad I didn’t know ‘corona’. But it’s all good. :0)
I couldn't not think of what I'd throw together: Reverend Club King RB > King of Tone > JHS Emperor > Empress Echosystem > Benson Monarch. As an American though, I gotta pick a Rivolta (revolt-a?) guitar.
Dan’s choice of Angry Charlie and Electric Mistress though, I cannot think of it any other way now.
It's just PERFECT. Mick here. Chapeau mate.
It took me a while to get that one, but it is hilarious. 😎
@@ThatPedalShow That entire episode was brilliant (as are they all). Thanks for everything!
Yep, brilliant!
Dan FTW
Interesting that Dan runs his flanger into his gain stages, whereas Angry Charlie historically slams right into the front of his Electric Mistress.
Hahahahahah!
This comment wins the day!
Fantastic 😅
Sir you have won the internet
For years, Angry Charlie just had the Electric Mistress on the side. Hidden under the pedal board. They still had the RAT on the board though, i.e., the dodgy brother Andrew. Angry Charlie's second son Harry rebelled and went for a digital model from the USA.
„They‘ll send you back to australia for this“ was a comedic highlight of tps and life in general. The camilla toe was the cherry on top.
Corona means "Crown" in Spanish, so there's another justification for Mick's guitar choice XD
Oh wow! I so should have known that. Doh! Thank you!
And in italian also! ✌🏻
Ironically, it means this in English too - a coronation is literally a crowning, and a coronet a small crown, after all.
@@ThatPedalShow look at the little logo on the famous beer
Dan has never been more Australian on a TPS episode than this one. Fantastic take.
The laughs as Dan revealed his board made my morning. 😂😂😂
Intresting that the Electric Mistress is ontop of the Angry Charlie. Good insight to the Royal bedchamber.
I love when you gents do challenge videos. It always amazes me, when you create these incredible soundscapes, from pedals that are seemingly random.
Episode idea: Let Patrons vote on a list of pedals we want you to re-visit or spend more time on. The Mythbusters show used to do this thing where people could write in and explain how they should test their experiment differently and get different results. Something like that.
Love it!
Arch top Bishop of Canterbury. Just wonderful.
I love you guys. Friendly, informative, entertaining, and absolutely killer players!
Thank you!
Dan has hit the high point of comedic genius in this one. Bravo sirs.
I made a fuzz pedal and housed it in a charles and diana commemorative biscuit tin. I called it Diodey Al Fayed.
Litters lol’s when Dan was selecting his pedals. Chefs kiss!
Dan's thoughtful expression when he listens to others play is inspirational in and of itself. It's clear he's always paying attention and always appreciative of what others are bringing to the table. A true gentleman and player!
Laughing at the 'Mistress'. There goes the Knighthood Dan!
As a yank it's always nice to hear Brits play My Country Tis of Thee haha! Love the challenge videos.
I absolutely adore Micks choices of suuuuper simple pedalboard, that do basically all i want
Love Dan's sarcastic board and how it comments on an Aussie's view of the monarchy
The Archtop Bishop of Canterbury!! That's genius.
I was waiting for one of you to whip out a Brian May signature or Petrucci Majesty guitar.
Thanks for the proper laff lads. These themed shows are great, please don’t ever be afraid to throw more of these light hearted shows in the mix. Part of what makes TPS great!
Cheers Sean! Yeah, a bit of levity on the ridiculousness of it ALL is good for the soul we thing. Oursouls. Hhaahahah!
Showing again why the Diamond Vibrato (alone, wet/dry, or going to two amps mono) is my favorite pedal! Magic.
😂 I feel like King Chuck takes himself more seriously than anyone else in the world. Cheers good gentlemen!

Hilarious! And of course the 335 has the crown inlay on the headstock!

In terms of tone, agreed. Coronation puns, though... Dan nailed it!

As soon as I pick up a guitar, the room suddenly empties quite fast.

It does, thank you. Now I’m wondering about analogue dry through, because there’s definitely something weird going on with the phase.
Ahhh the capes! Wonderful.
Lol watch out it's not off with your heads there- we need you now more than ever!
Did Mick really say that here's no affect on the Mistress after the Charlie? 😂
When the Princeton kicked in to counter the Diamond ...
As a life long Smiths fan, I was concerned about the theme ;) Brilliant from start to end as ever, and Electric Mistress made me howl.
Flanger? I hardly know her!
(Also if you set an Electric Mistress to low depth and low rate it does the Johnny Marr chorus thing quite well)
It just occurred to me. In all the videos I’ve watched I have seldom seen you two play together. It might be a new innovation for the channel.
We do it sometimes. But me and Dan jamming is pretty horrible. We have very different harmonic expectation. Hahaha. And our timing meters are totally different. Add bass and drums and it gets much better!
Flanger before gain stage is easily on of my favorite tones.

That multi head delay as reverb is similar to what Andy Timmons did with Keeley. That effect is amazing
Happy Cinco Cinco day 2023!
Well done Dan! I would not have expected any less from any self-respecting Aussie.
I’m surprised no one chose the Kingsley Jester
