Yeah, so true! Definitely I have found this special trinity some of THE most enjoyable episodes, when Dan, Mick and Josh are together in a room I know we're in for a seriously great, enjoyable and hugely informative time filled with entertainment, some great history about the gear, and excellent listening examples, all of it imparted in a totally accessible way - and as separate channels in their own right, both TPS and JHS are both already all-round awesome!
Best pedal video I’ve ever seen. I learned a wealth of information and I was sad when it ended. I understand now why my JHS germanium fuzz has a bias knob. It is obvious now why pedals have been sounding significantly different when swapping guitars and amps, which frustrated me quite a lot. I learned I prefer the sound of soft clipping, which results from clipping diodes in the feedback loop. I like hard clipping too, but only when it isn’t muddy. I am putting the JHS Bonsai and a ProCo Rat on my Christmas list. I think I’ll check out the Analogman and JHS Bolt pedals you demoed too. Thanks for doing this video, I anxiously await more of the same. First I’ve got to watch this again. Cheers
Yes, it's made me really grateful that I have the discontinued MI Effects fuzzes, the Neo (ge) & GI (si). Both have bias, load, and brightness controls. Load control makes it easier when switching from singles to humbuckers. The bias control is great, but I think more fuzz pedals could have a load pot
Unfortunately, Josh's explanation of bias is not correct. In talking about dying batteries and the like, he is talking about supply voltage, or Vcc, not bias. Dan recognized that, which is why he started to try to talk about the range in which the device operates, but then the discussion moved on without reaching a correct explanation of bias.

Between both your shows, I've managed to dial in discrete settings through my BD2, DS1 & SD1 that react really nicely with my PU volumes. It's more like having 3 amps on the fly then it is having a pedal effect. I've got Area 61-58-JBHB, all above average volume sensitivity. BUT they cascade very well from Bd2 through DS1 & out the SD1, with my GE7 being used to shape the effect in colour & volume. And then I can blend that signal with a clean ala Centaur-like. I have to describe the interaction of the pedals. I have a Behringer SF300 as a signal booster/shaper to start. Let's me shape the PUs for effects needs &/or a quick presence toggle to fake low-fi/smaller speaker. Then it's LS2. Then BD2. Gain is about 3 o'clock. Then it's the DS1. Gain is about 2 o'clock. Then it's a Behringer TM300 set to "MoP/RtL Metallica" James crunch. Then it's a CE5 to add modulation when needed. Then it's the SD1, Gain at 9 o'clock. Finally GE7 to shape. If all 3 are on, the DS1 has a subtle biting-crunch before the BD2 starts to sizzle & the SD1 just gently softens the edges as volume increases. At full JB volume, all those pedals on almost sound like the TM300 set to my Crunchberries-sim. Now there's overtones that don't match BUT the flutey crunch is very similar. And mixing up any combination is pleasant, small tweaks on tone knobs to get rid of unwanted harmonics. OF COURSE it's about my tastes. But that's half the playing battle. This was a great episode. I really appreciate when you do episodes that are so educational and instructive like this. Less about specific gear (though there’s nothing wrong with that either) and more about teaching about more fundamental gear aspects that many (or at least I) are less knowledgeable about. So thanks! Great work!
One of your best guest vids. Tough format to order properly but approaching it chronologically definitely helped. So much info I’ll have to watch again and Josh was really open and honest.
2 events would need to happen for me to feel like I’ve made it as a musician. One of those events is being asked to come on “that pedal show”. I’ll see you guys soon.

Great job guys, keep the crossovers coming and don’t watch the clock when ur making videos like this! Absolutely would have sat through a 5 hour or multi part series without a second thought! Thanks for all I guys do!
The synergy between you three, guys is marvelous. This is not just a masterclass on audio technology from Josh and Dan, but a masterclass on technical journalism by Mick. Outstanding, really...
I swear Dan went in for the kiss when Josh said he would send him the amp. Then Mick realizes he has the volumes on his amp out of whack after 90% of the taping is completed. It is tough being in the presence of such majesty and not skipping a few beats.
I remember the first pedal I built was a fuzz face. I remember looking at an old vintage land mine FF n just being blown away that there were only like 10parts in the whole circuit. And only two are active components. This blew my mind and started me down the rabbit hole 🕳 of Tinkering, building, designing pedal circuits. That was several years ago now. All because I just couldn’t believe that this wall of fuzz coming at you was shaped by 10 little parts. Great show as always guys. Bring Josh on as much as you can get away with. Cheers 😄🎸🎛🔊🎼❤️🤟
What have I learned today? A whole heap of lovely, thank you very much boys!! First, don’t leave it to bedtime to watch TPS (I wouldn’t have learned anything). Second, I now know in far, far greater detail the differences between some Boost/OD/Distortion/Fuzz circuits (massively informative and enjoyable) Thirdly that Josh Scott is an awesome chap and a perfect fit for you guys. Fourth: The Long Form works!!!!
this is like the 4th or 5th time I've watched this (i rewatch tps stuff all the time). I can genuinely listen to Josh talk all day and have no problem buying his pedals as they are well made and he genuinely knows his stuff.
Josh is not a pedal nerd ..he's the king of the pedal nerds.... thank goodness he is..what an amazing insight and informative video... you guys rocked it again .. quickest 1hr 25min of my life and so much learnt... Thank you.
Great show! Easily a “top 10” episode of TPS. Each of you brought so much to the conversation, I know I’ll have a better understanding on my next visit to my guitar shop.
Hooray! So pleased you enjoyed it Joe - we were worried it might be too discursive and not ‘definitive’ enough.... but hopefully as we’ve established by now, there are no answers only better questions. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for inviting Josh Scott, he's really likeable and his knowledge is amazing. Now I got to know the man behind my great JHS pedals...btw. the Colorsound is a beast...
This is an excellent video. As much fun as the journey through trial and error and magical accidents can be (which has been 90% of it for me), it’s certainly useful to really be able to connect what you enjoy and make informed decisions thereof. Because of this show I learned that I like the blues driver and KOT, colorsound boost and Warthog, tone benders and treble boosters...I’ve also discovered that tubescreamers, germanium fuzz Circuits and MIB/distortion pedals don’t really do it for me. It use to just be three categories: overdrive, distortion and fuzz, now together we see all the shades of grey and as a result can be more informed buyers but also creators of tones that help us individually get the noise out. It’s a blast learning and growing with you guys and the community.
Thank you Justin. I’m right there with you on the learning and growing thing. As for drives, it’s great to be able to say ‘ah, this isn’t doing it for me today and I kinda know why, so I’ll try this.” Instead of, “Ah, I don’t like this Tube Screamer so I’ll try that Tube Screamer.” That way madness lies. And believe me I’ve been there! Mick here.
Excellent coverage - speaking as a very inexperienced guitarist but a very experienced electronics engineer. Particularly want to complement all three on the ability to get over quite technical information in easy to understand fashion. Very enjoyable!
@ThatPedalShow - Brilliant, informative episode! Love hearing Josh explain the differences in pedal components. Please do an episode with Brian Wampler if he ever travels to UK!
Every year in Sweden there are broadcasted conversations with various Nobel price-winners called "snillen spekulerar" (smart people speculates), this was like the rocknroll version of that! Thank you! What a week!!!
So informative and fascinating! This really reinforces to me the need to get an amp and guitar combo you like and supplement with pedals. I've spent years trying to 'fix' a guitar/amp pairing I didn't like with expensive pedals. Good stuff.
I’m soo glad you did a “full” episode with Josh. Yesterday although short was awesome!!! Let me grab a beer & put my feet up for the next hour or so. Can’t wait!! Love you guys!
Josh is a great guy and really knows his stuff. JHS is about 15 minutes away from me and I spent part of a very enjoyable afternoon with hin pre Covid. I do high end audio, he does pedals and I learn a lot from watching his stuff. Very generous in his praise of others' work.
You guys should do an episode (or series of episodes) where you line up a couple different pedals and modded variations thereof to see how things change with different mods!
This was a huge lesson. I could watch three times and still keep learning. I've just decided to trade in two pedals on the basis of what I learned watching. Brilliant work all of you.
I would rather watch a full That Pedal Show episode than modern movies. I can learn, laugh, and contemplate more from your productions than i ever can watching a remake of a remake, that was remade.
The hound- I'm with you on that mate! Film and tv is dead on its feet. Was just saying the same to my other half .....she was watching another repeat and I was watching an epic from tps with an all-star cast ha ha.
That just said it all. How informing. Thanks so much guys I learnt a heap. This is definitely in my top 5 TPS episodes. Will be watching it again......... Cheers from Marty in Melbourne.
Another fabulous show chaps. I wonder if the orange hue of the Colour Sound Overdrive influenced Boss when designing the chassis of OD-1? So good to see Josh back on the show by the way. His vlog on the JHS channel is incredibly fun and interesting and well worth checking out.
A big part of me just wants to plug in and find a sound without knowing all the minutiae, but this was wonderfully nerdy. Thanks so much for the content.

Cheers
😄🎸🎛🔊🎼❤️🤟
What have I learned today? A whole heap of lovely, thank you very much boys!!
First, don’t leave it to bedtime to watch TPS (I wouldn’t have learned anything).
Second, I now know in far, far greater detail the differences between some Boost/OD/Distortion/Fuzz circuits (massively informative and enjoyable)
Thirdly that Josh Scott is an awesome chap and a perfect fit for you guys.
Fourth: The Long Form works!!!!
I love these videos with builders! I’d like to see you do one with Robert Keeley and his signature Supro amp!!!!
Wesley Viens jaime stillman would be an awesome guest as well, the video at andertons confirms this
Tiago Ducatti I was kind of amazed he didn’t do TPS at the same time tbh
Please get Robert!
I'm surprised Robert didn't do a show when the D&M drive launched. Another show on "pedal amps" with his new Supro would be great though.
Especially to see what they think of his FX loop as they generally aren’t fans of them.
this is like the 4th or 5th time I've watched this (i rewatch tps stuff all the time). I can genuinely listen to Josh talk all day and have no problem buying his pedals as they are well made and he genuinely knows his stuff.
The rat’s filter is also resonant! I tested it in a computer simulator and you can see a small frequency bump in the response. Love that pedal.
Josh is not a pedal nerd ..he's the king of the pedal nerds.... thank goodness he is..what an amazing insight and informative video... you guys rocked it again .. quickest 1hr 25min of my life and so much learnt... Thank you.
🤓
Mick here.
love listening to Josh- so low-key and knowledgeable, and he makes some of the best stuff out there...thanx for doing this vid...
Excellent coverage - speaking as a very inexperienced guitarist but a very experienced electronics engineer. Particularly want to complement all three on the ability to get over quite technical information in easy to understand fashion.
Very enjoyable!
Very good episode. Great of Josh to join you guys and take us through the history of overdrive. Please do more episodes like this!
@ThatPedalShow - Brilliant, informative episode! Love hearing Josh explain the differences in pedal components. Please do an episode with Brian Wampler if he ever travels to UK!
Open invitation to Brian - hopefully we can make it happen one day!
That Pedal Show Awesome! I was planning on emailing him about a recent video he did about boost pedals and will mention that.
Every year in Sweden there are broadcasted conversations with various Nobel price-winners called "snillen spekulerar" (smart people speculates), this was like the rocknroll version of that! Thank you! What a week!!!
I would love to watch that!
So informative and fascinating! This really reinforces to me the need to get an amp and guitar combo you like and supplement with pedals. I've spent years trying to 'fix' a guitar/amp pairing I didn't like with expensive pedals. Good stuff.
Emotional overload an hour in! So many feels! I had to keep replaying those 3 minutes over and over again. It warmed my heart so much! 😎❤️
Rumor has it, Dan is still smiling....
I’m soo glad you did a “full” episode with Josh. Yesterday although short was awesome!!!
Let me grab a beer & put my feet up for the next hour or so. Can’t wait!! Love you guys!
Hope you enjoy it Mark!
Josh is a great guy and really knows his stuff. JHS is about 15 minutes away from me and I spent part of a very enjoyable afternoon with hin pre Covid. I do high end audio, he does pedals and I learn a lot from watching his stuff. Very generous in his praise of others' work.
Thank you guys. I always enjoy the three of you sharing your knowledge
Somehow I missed this episode. It has to be one of the most entertaining, informative, and interesting TPS shows ever!
What a great guest and a great show! Well done.
Awesome having Josh on here with you guys. Love his knowledge and passion and personality. Sweet. Thanks!
You guys should do an episode (or series of episodes) where you line up a couple different pedals and modded variations thereof to see how things change with different mods!
Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Guys this was great. Learned so much. I understand so much more about circuits than I did an hour ago. Thanks everyone.
Love dans face when Josh says he's giving him a MIG. We got the new EHX MIG 50 in the shop and its fantastic. Cannot believe its the price that it is.
This was a huge lesson. I could watch three times and still keep learning. I've just decided to trade in two pedals on the basis of what I learned watching. Brilliant work all of you.
"It's awkward when you guys yell at each other in front of me."
"Ah, because you had the master set..." "Ah..."
Ah Josh Scott. He never fails to crack me up with his ridiculously laid back, and daft, sense of humour. Great guy!
I would rather watch a full That Pedal Show episode than modern movies. I can learn, laugh, and contemplate more from your productions than i ever can watching a remake of a remake, that was remade.
That’s amazing, thank you! Imagine what we could with an actual budget!
The hound- I'm with you on that mate! Film and tv is dead on its feet. Was just saying the same to my other half .....she was watching another repeat and I was watching an epic from tps with an all-star cast ha ha.
So... Have you seen 'A Star is Born'?
Ah so what you're saying is that Dan doesn't feed any profit from GigRig back into TPS??? Only kidding of course, love these videos@@ThatPedalShow
I've been watching this for the past few hours and it's golden. Thank you. Though I might need to rewatch and take notes or something
Oh and how weird is it that I come across this video today and suddenly my phone recommends a Guitar World article with similar (and complementary) information from YESTERDAY
Thank you Mick, Dan and JOSH!! One of the best explanations I've ever heard on the differences and similarities of these types of pedals. I understand so much more now! You HAVE to have JOSH back again!
That’s great, thank you! So glad you enjoyed it. :0)
Super informative! An absolutely fantastic episode guys, 85 minutes feels too short! :)
You 3 have great chemistry every time you're together! This is easily one of my favorite episodes.
I will watch this episode again..alot of info. Thk u gentlemen!!!
Ok time to say it. This is the only channel that I watch with content this long. See ever video and they are all informative and out together so well. Keep it up.
That’s a great compliment, thank you Dave!
Great info guys . Not only is josh fantastic at what he does , but down to earth & humble. Cant wait to see /hear that amp too. The look on Dan's face lol .
I just want to second that this was one of your best shows ever! Josh is a great interview. He manages to explain the circuits in a way a layman can understand without sounding condescending. I never understood the different pedal architectures until now. Keep it up!
Can't say enough good things about this episode!!! Fantastic Experience!!!
I could watch this fifteen times over and still learn stuff each time! :)
Once josh mentioned giving him that amp, the smile never left his face ! Great video, very informative.
Long time watcher, first time purchaser. T’shirts on the way to the US. Keep up the fun stuff! Next stop, JHS…
Thank you kindly!
1:02:08 My whole world view down the drain. 🤯😬
Great episode guys! Josh is super knowledgeable, and entertaining! Thanks to this episode I'm going to actually investigate my Sparkle Drive Mod's mod selector. Haha
As many people below have said, this is one of the very best episodes you've done. Josh's delivery is such a great mix of knowledge and ability to entertain. The episode really flowed well at a good pace. Thanks guys!
Haha, yeah. Josh and his room of Sovtek amp heads makes me laugh every time I see it!
it needs watching again, sporadically, there`s a lot
to revise ,and josh has a great depth of experience
to mull over , great reference material ,
Josh is a big guy. He's actually sitting 15 feet behind them.
Ya got me, I snorted
He’s actually still in Kansas. He’s HUGE!
Cannot unsee
Chris Gardner Do
Is Josh holding a mandolin?
I have read a sh@t load or tech stuff to figure out what you guys presented in this show....even with all I read this little masterpiece of a show filled in many small gaps in my knowledge. Well done. By the way Pedal Show fans be sure to watch Josh's show. Unlike shows by other pedal makers it IS NOT a promo for his brand. Trust me you will love it!
I've watched JHS for a long time now and this was the show I wanted him to do. Wow.
Germanium vs Silicone. Who Knew? Op Amps are clean! Great info. Thank you All.
also silicon vs silicone! just joshing you, haha
This was the best That Pedal Show ever. Thank you! Please don't hesitate to let episodes be longer in the future ;).
A glorious 24 hours worth of content.
The best show ever! I will watch again and take notes. I know I will refer back to this as long as I play guitar.
