When I first heard this song I knew it was about the loss of someone close a loved one and portrayed exactly how I felt at the loss of my first wife, 2 year old son, and unborn daughter to a drunk driver in 1982 causing the grief and pain of that loss to come to the surface and made me cry.
Such a very emotional and powerful song.

Im 50 , when we lost our first friend 25 years ago , the rest of us have a tradition when we meet up for a beer . We toast each other for good health then we toast absent friends .

I hurt somebody terribly during a divorce. He didn’t want it. He used to listen to this song and cry. He would tell me it was like I was gone already, just a body living with him. I got my karma for hurting him so terribly. Justly deserved. I can’t listen to this without crying because I know I caused someone immense pain. Peace to all.
I did the same thing 😢 The guilt is unbearable at times.
Hey we're all living this life for the first time. Nobody is an expert and nobody makes all the right choices but what makes us who we are and will become is what we choose to do going forward with what we learn from our mistakes. Hopefully all those involved will heal and grow from this.

Now - just imagine hearing this back when it was 1st released!?!? I used to frequent a local hole in the wall bar after I got back from Iraq in 2005 and this lady would come in all the time - alone - just a beer or 2 - on Karaoke night - and sing her songs almost TO THE "T"... it was pretty mesmerizing... I still remember her to this day.

I actually haven’t listened to this song in nearly 10 years since before my brother passed away from an OD. I actually can’t tell if that was intentional by my subconscious or I just happened to not listen to it. Maybe my brain avoided it for me. But it absolutely hits different now than when I was young. Love your reactions, you’re so genuine. If you haven’t yet, I suggest 3 Libras by A Perfect Circle, or Snuff by Slipknot. Such beautiful and heartfelt songs as well.

I had an uncle close to my heart a bridge crushed him to death I was only a teenager think I was 14 he was like a father to me but this song gets to me every time I hear it reminds me and my uncle cry everytime cos I still miss him 😢
