After my girlfriend died in a car accident, I held everything in from everybody. It was on my face, but I had no emotions. My cousin Invited me to a Foo Fighters concert a couple weeks later. I dragged myself out of the house. I was driving through Houston and this song came on the radio. I erupted in tears, uncontrollably. I had to pull over. I still remember how good it felt to finally cry.
I'm sorry man
I’m so sorry for your loss
Aw mate hope Ur doing stronger that's awful sad
So sorry to hear of your loss. This song always makes me tear up of people I have also lost and I’m 58
Same happened to me mate, well not with this song but same situation. I'm honestly here on a boo hoo fest after having a big ugly cry earlier today over some shit I can't control. And I think that's really it as men if we can't be there and protect it eats us alive inside. I spent 20 years after I lost mine in a place where I had no control over anything and pretty much lost everything, even moved on now and married another lady who honestly deserves better than me. Nothing ever feels right anymore. But hey I'm still here just trying to help anyone else who will listen.
After all these years I'm still amazed that Amy and Ben wrote this when they were 15
All of your tears.
I miss Ben Moody's guitar work.
Her voice is the most ethereal, gorgeous and her range is stunning. SO underrated.
Never fails... someone's always cutting onions around me when this song is playing.
😥😢😭
I'm not crying, you're crying! haha
100%
I'm the household chef, I have an excuse.
Red Onions are not as strong, I thought Shallots would be mild... Wrong! :)
I feel that way about Collin Raye's "Love, Me" and Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars".
The first time I heard this song it hit me so hard I had to pull my car over and cry. It still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
Sure you did.
@@BrandonWestfall She did, I was there to clap.
@@BrandonWestfall Wipe your chin...you're talking sh!t.
@@BrandonWestfall I pity that you've never had a deep emotional experience like that.
@@BrandonWestfall Go away.
As we get older, we learn to listen what's behind the vocals, especially pain...
Our younger selves tend to attach ourselves to the songs, instead of listening to the artists pain behind the vocals.
Amy Lee's voice is literally a voice of angel...
You almost never see an Evanescence reaction that doesn't use the word angel or angelic. Perfect way to describe her voice.
I saw Evanescence live in 2018 when they were on their Synthesis tour. They were backed by a live orchestra and they played this song. I had just lost my mom to cancer and this song reminded me of her. Before they began to play the song, Amy said she wanted to dedicate it to a friend of hers who had lost their mother to cancer. Needless to say, that performance devastated me. I was bawling like a baby.
Orchestra playing also ❤sorry for your loss. 😢
@@Brandi-zp8kj Yes, the orchestra made it even more emotional. Thanks for your kind words. ❤️
@@snakebyte187 you're welcome my friend.
I saw them in Sept. This song also brings me back to when I lost my mom 18 months ago. I sobbed through the whole thing.😢😢
@@rls110961 Music can do powerful things, especially when it is accompanied by a beautiful voice. I’m sorry for your loss. ❤️
It took me almost 20 years to understand the video. Amy killed herself and only her ghost wanders through the video. That's why her wrists are wraped and she's never touching the ground. Her husband/boyfriend runs around town after the funeral dealing with the pain.
I always thought that the two of them had just broken up.
That’s a brilliant interpretation of the video.
The lyrics of "My Immortal" were written by Ben Moody, based on the death of his beloved grandfather. It seems correct that the character Amy portrays in the music video is dead, and yes, that's the symbolism of her never touching the ground, though the manner of her death is not specified. To me, her attire and hair style and decoration are a striking visual stylistic choice, esp as the video is in black and white. The lyrics are supposed to be of the person mourning, so in this video, that's Ben, although of course, Amy is singing them.
🤯🤯 wow!!
No puedo creer que entendí el vídeo 20 años después por un comentario de UA-cam 😮
@@detectivekornfed The wiki for the song doesn't mention anything about Ben's grandfather, and specifically states "The song's words were originally written by Moody from fiction and the music written by Lee on piano when they were 15, after which Lee added the bridge."
I literally can't watch this video without crying. Every. Single. Time. So beautiful and moving.
If you love her voice, check her out singing Speak To Me with an Orchestra and playing the Piano. "Amy Lee Speak To Me (Synthesis Live)"
'My Heart Is Broken', when Amy Lee sings it, you believe it.
Amy Lee has the best pure voice i have ever heard. She is the best female vocalist ever. Ty for doing this song
Ronstadt, Rimes and McCoo were darn good too.
As a rock fan in my 60's this song brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it - so beautiful!
I've seen Evanescence three times in the last few years and I can say that Amy Lee is amazing. Her voice is still so amazing. I think this song will always make me emotional.
I lost my life partner to illness at the same time this song started getting airplay, it mirrored my aftermath, the lyrics got me then as time went on her voice amazed me. Beautiful score, beautiful lyrics and her voice, wow.
And she is AMAZING live. I saw her last May at Rockville. 41 years old and still on full send.
Amy is a master of dynamics, not just between phrases or verses, but also on individual notes and words. I think that this is one of the elements that make her voice so haunting. I don't know how many time that I have heard this song, but it still leaves me with a lump in my throat. Nice reaction! Thanks.
The entire Fallen album is an absolute goth-metal masterwork. When this came out there wasn't anything else like it in mainstream music. Yes there were some fantastic similar bands that predated it (Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, etc.) but, in the US at least, this was the breakthrough for that style of music. Definitely a top 5 all time album for me.
One of the most under-rated singers of my lifetime
In her circle no. But overall, she gets lost. She doesn't do the top 40 sound, so she never gets played on the radio. It's sad to have that voice and 99% of the people never get to hear it because of zero radio play.
Her voice in this song is a beautiful, harmonious, hunting, sweet, sad, emotional and painful cry…I think is so rare to find this kind of artists that can connect us to this pain through singing! I always cry every time I hear this song! And I haven’t lost a loved one…This is a masterpiece! ❤️✨❤️✨❤️
this song is so so beautiful but I can’t get over how beautiful Amy is. truly captivating 😭
Great reaction. Amy Lee has such a beautiful voice. She did a song with Lzzy Hale that is outstanding.
"Break In", it's a great track. What I like most about it is Amy sings under Lzzy in the first chorus, then a note above her in the last. Really shows her vocal prowess.
"Outstanding"?? Their duet on "Break in" will go down as one of the greatest vocal performances ever.
Omg I need to find this. Lzzy Hale is amazing. I got to see her live years ago in a tiny little intimate theater, and it was incredible. They filled the room, not just with the audience, but with their sound. And evanescence has held my heart since I was 14 and feeling broken. I didn’t know they did something together and now I have to find this.
Wasn't expecting to cry at this, but apparently I needed this song tonight. Thanks for unpacking it, and for your wonderful reactions and explanations.
The original LP version didn't have the full band section, it was just the piano and strings.
So glad they released song and video with that amazing part added. It gave the song even more power.
This IS definitely the version to hear.
BTW, I will never get tired of listening to this masterpiece.
This song is absolutely beautiful. And Amy. What a knockout!
Lost my precious son in 2017. This song brings me to tears! Love your stuff!
I'm so sorry for your loss!
Maybe the prettiest song of all time. It certainly makes the list. Amy's lyrics are so ethereal - just mesmerizing and heart wrenching all at once.
Voice of an Angle! I put this song away 6 years ago and found the courage to listen with you, At that time "The pain was just to real" The entire album is a vocal show off! So good!
There's not another song that gives me more chills and brings more tears. Damn, Amy! I'm so glad I got to see them live in L.A.! She's just as good live! Incredible.
Somebody bought me this album years ago, and it just turns me to mush every time I hear it. Such a beautiful voice, and great lyrics.
Such an epic era for music. Things were getting blended together that nobody thought would work but it paved the way for so much of what we have now.
She has amazing voice control. She gives me shivers. With a tube amp it's wonderful.
Gosh, love your reactions, so full off kindness. Thank you
I've heard this song countless times over the past 2 decades..... and every time I still get goosebumps, chills, and tears in my eyes. It's a masterpiece.
Great job breaking this down Bethany. 🙌🏻
Her range is so astonishing. She makes it sound effortless, without straining or even trying. Like it's just flowing from her heart for us to hear
I agree that Amy Lee adds depth and a calming action like being wrapped in the warmest of blankets. It's like a spiral feeling that wraps around the listener. Her voice is fabulous.
I’ve listened to many of the “reviewers” and you’re the best, period. Keep it up - I truly enjoy watching you do your thing ~ 🙏🏻
I hadn’t heard this song and performance for a very long time. So beautiful! And Bethany, you described it perfectly - “so smooth and well connected”. I really appreciate hearing these songs again and being reminded of how great they are. Thank you!
Another great review vid, Bethany. I, randomly, revisited this song pretty recently and was reminded what a both powerful and stunningly haunting voice Amy has. Great song choice, well done again.❤
Wonderful analysis! It has been awhile since I really listened to this song. She has such a beautiful voice that really hits the emotion of the lyrics.
Im so glad to see someone properly break down this song.. I listen to a decent range of music and for some reason from the first time I heard this song it caught me and from that moment it has been the one song that could have this much effect on me. The emotion with what i feel is one of the most unbelievable tones of a voice that ive ever heard.. I feel its the most beautiful song Ive heard and felt
Such a beautiful song, you can feel the emotion in her vocals, so powerful. I'm so glad you reviewed this!
Haunting moving and effortless ❤
I hadn't heard this song for quite a while either, and I'm with you that it's great to go back and listen to things you heard back in the day, but with a fresh set of ears, and with more experience. Amy's voice is just so fantastic, can be so delicate but with the ability to be powerful, just beautiful singing. Also, that video is so well produced and put together that the visual presentation is just gorgeous as well. Thank You for reviewing this.
Such fond memories of this song. Amazing voice
I love your emotions, Bethany. I feel this song so much deeper in my soul watching your reaction... thank you for being you. ❤
Wonderful review! Such a masterpiece of a song, torrents of emotion. Few artists have Amy Lee's almost unmatched ability to connect with the fan/listener, she is truly a gift. Please analyze more Evanescence!
Wonderful reaction Bethany! I felt exactly as you did back when the song was first released, so beautiful but it got overplayed on radio & MTV and I also started to tune it out. Thanks to the 20th anniversary remaster of their "Fallen" album, I'm back to not being able to avoid getting emotional when I listen to Amy sing this song. Her vocal talent is amazing!
I was lucky enough to see Evanescence live in Helsinki many moons ago. They had My Immortal and Lithium on the set list. It was magical.
When she sings softly like that it feels like my brain gets wrapped in velvet 🥰
As always your analysis and reaction was GREAT. Please keep em coming. 😜
Only just recently tripped over evanescence.. Amy has such a powerful voice... her range and power are incredible... Some of her vocals are absolutely haunting.. when you add the fact she writes her own music and plays the keyboards it just speaks of her incredible talent.
this is my favorite video reaction u were so real, Amy´s voice is amazingly haunting ive never been so agree before!
A beautiful accompanying piano set's the mood for this song
Watching this makes me appreciate this song and their work even more when listening to this song that is so close to my heart. And now it's like its lyrics have a whole new meaning.
I love this song! The vocals and her beauty match so well and I just want to hold her through her pain. I love your channel
Amy is a great talent! I would love to hear your take on "My Tourniquet" at some point. Her voice can be so incredibly POWERFUL, but also so soft and enveloping. This one feels like a warm blanket to pull around you when you're lonely, missing someone, but then transitions into the chorus that gives such a sense of resolve, of "I will never stop loving you, but I will find a way to go on alone if I must." I just love this song so much!
Through all my life I have appreciated every song that has musically touched my soul..I have an amazing playlist with all of them on.
Another great review . You're the best.great song
The Song is beautiful, I love Amy's Voice!!
Love this song and love you!!! Just thank you somuch. Music is my soul and you touch it all the time. Thank you so much.
I really love this song and all of there music. I can really see that you do, too. Thank you for what you do.
this song is amazingly beautiful. Enjoyed it
Truly a timeless track. This has a very universal message, everyone can relate to the lyrics at one point in our life, also her voice is so haunting.
Such a great reflection on this legendary song
All right my lady friend... You just found the epitome of tranquility ‼️ Most excellent reaction ‼️🔥🔥😎👍
thank you ffor bringing up this memory
There's just something special about this song. Amy's voice is just so crisp and beautiful. I remember playing this on repeat back in the day!
I would absolutely love to see a reaction to Ado! Her talent is just off the charts! Her range and control are ridiculous. I'd recommend the live version of either Show or Unravel!
I remember singing this song so many times when I was in high school. We had a little rock band in school and one of my friends and I just played this non stop and sang it all around town acoustic and full band so many times that I was the "evanescence girl" in a town that nobody knew in Mexico HAHA. I never became a professional singer but I keep on going through Evanescence songs because I have always absolutely loved Amy Lee's voice and seeing it being praised by a professional vocalist, it gives me so much pleasure that those who really know about this stuff can see the beauty of her voice and find no fault. She is truly one of the best singers of our time
I so love seeing your reactions again, and then song...yeah.....it was like my fav at the time. Anyway,, great to see you react.
Goosebumps all the time!
gorgeous video for a gorgeous song
I really appreciated this song in my early '30s.I love how the music and her singing worked so well together. I also love how it was such a beautiful song and then it turned into hard rock seamlessly. Her facial expressions in this add so much to the video
What an album this was.
Just one fantastic song after another.
I'd not heard anything like it.
I loved and still love listening to Amy/Evanescence and its been decades I believe. I could hear all the details of her voice that she gives throughout all the songs, there is so much range between them all which is very nice to listen too. Can fit many moods and even some of the newest performances, she still sounds like this. Her doing the music video Speak to me is one of the newest ones she done and is spectacular on and even when she did a recorded Duet with Lzzy from Halestorm on Break In (recorded in a studio for the video and not one of their lives) she harmonizes with Lzzy so well that people are amazed that they sound so great together. If Amy's voice is like a chilling fog then Lzzy's voice is like a smoky fire. Speak to me is like 6 years ago and the Break In duet is like 3 years ago so fairly recent.
The vocalist is stunningly beautiful... just as Amy Lee is!
I loved this song so much when it came out that I played it on repeat on many days. The live version from "Anywhere but home" DvD / CD pack, to me, is even better.
I absolutely LOVE your reactions, started with Sebnem Ferah and still here :)
This group … this song … definitely changed me. It was released when a friend was diagnosed with cancer. This became the tune in my head for the next 1.5years as he battled, and lost.
The sad glint in your eyes breaks my heart. I love listening to music with you.
Alice In Chains, Live at the Moore definitely deserves a reaction. Man in the box, Love, Hate, Love and Bleed the Freak are just amazing.
Amy is a singing Godess this song has the Power to make you cry
There's another song from this same album, "Hello" that also incorporates softer, melodic, and lower registers that culminate in a boisterous, triumphant finish, but without the addition of the full band. So when i first heard this song, I anticipated it would be a much of the same. But when the full band not only joins the song, but compliments it without drastically changing its sound, i was blown away. Never fails to make me emotional.
Small bonus info:
The fountain and the yard in the video, is the Placa de Sant Felip Neri in Barcelona.
The scarring on the walls tell a grim story about January 30th, 1938.
During the Spanish civil war, this yard was used by the school of Sant Felip Neri, and a bomb fell in the yard, killing 30 people, most of whom were children. While survivors were being pulled out of the rubble, another bomb fell, killing another 12.
Amy's feet never touch the ground in this video, maybe suggesting she is more a spirit than a living being.
So the children playing in exactly this spot is really haunting.
Evanescence finally! One of the few good recent groups and phenomenal singer!
would bring a tear to glass eye
Beautiful timeless melodic music captivates your soul in a warm embrace albeit for a brief moment in time. Cherish this feeling for this is the only truth you will experience in your mortal existence traversing and negotiating this perceived reality we call life.
❤
I saw Evanescence and Halestorm in concert and the two of them are an absolute powerhouse on stage.
I loved this song from the first time I heard it. Over the years the words have had a bigger impact on me. Now I can not listen to it without getting a bit emotional. This song really hit me right in the feels.
This and other Evanescence songs were what I wanted to see you cover. I was kind of stunned you hadn't ever covered a song sun by Amy Lee. Beyond any doubt she is the best female vocalist I've ever seen live. She's incredible.
Early on her home recording studio was two cassette tape recorders. She would record a vocal line on one recorder, rewind it, hit record on the second and play on the first while layering the second vocal. There's a video of ner doing a quick one as an example. I've done that same thing but with guitar.
Seeing this song live is an amazing experience
I'll love this song forever❤
I definitely agree. I think we are around the same age, and this and Bring Me To Life were played so much that hearing this now really lets you appreciate it more. Great Analysis. Oh, and please Love Hate Love - Live at the Moore by Alice and Chains. Promise it will change your life! Great video.
I love it when you cry with me. Moving song.
This song obviously means a lot to you. Me too.
Thank you for your vocal insights.
I am imagining you're singing this song,, so lovely
This was the first concert that I've attended where I can honestly say that she sounded better live than on the album (which the album is beautiful). Definitely see them live. You won't be disappointed!
i first heard this beautiful voice/song in the theater while watching Daredevil. Daredevil visualises Electra's face with raindrops
That's where I first of them! The trailer for Daredevil kept coming on the TV. But the song on the trailer was Being Me To Life. I love the videos to both songs! I love all of their songs!! Amy Lee is beautiful and sings like an Angel!!
Please do more Amy Lee! ❤
Greetings from Fort Worth Texas! I love watching your videos and analysis of some of my favorite songs. I’d really love to see your reaction to to Lacy Mosley/Sturm or Flyleaf.
