Beautifully written, arranged and delivered. This song has taken on a life of its own. Over 20 years it has become such a huuuuuuuge song that means so much to so many people and more are discovering it all the time, even now when its over 20 years old.. It will resonate with us all at some point. It is a once in a lifetime song. You only ever write a song like this once in your career.
And it still looks modern. Someone from 2004 would not look out of place in 2024. But just 20 years earlier, someone from 1984 would totally look out of place in 2004.
I remember this song like it was played yesterday back in 2003....now its been 21 years later since this song was made....Time goes by so fast its scary
Honestly I think everyone who has experienced loss of a loved one can 100% relate to this song and if not, you can still somewhat relate because it makes you feel their grief and wanting to hug them to take away the sorrow.
100% and wish everyone had that mindset because having too much PRIDE is a sin because people have no business claiming to be human if you dont show at least some vulnerable or emotion, it is what makes us human and keeps us separate from a machine that has no ability to feel 😒 no matter how much its programmed.
A few years ago I was getting back into learning piano, and a friend challenged me to play this song. The next day I looked up the sheet music, had a couple of practice runs, then filmed myself playing the intro, first verse and chorus, and sent the video to her. She was pretty impressed I got as much of it that quickly, only an hour after finishing my actual day job!
@@yert1989the song is about a spirit that haunts the memory of the loved one whose grieving. In this video, Amy Lee is the spirit and Moody is the man grieving. I wouldn’t say they’re haunting each other tho. You could be right
@@djentyman4002it is about Amy Lee losing her sister if you want a back story. Should have looked that up. Don't attack someone when you don't know the backstory
God I have loved this song since it cameout! I bought the album the 2nd day it was for sale! I listened to is like 200 times in full the first week or so I had it!
I love that the younger generations will br able to really enjoy this music from an amazing singer, Amy Lee. Thank you for doing a reaction to this masterpiece. ❤️
My son Michael passed away on November 19 , 2012 I had this song play at his celebration of life service!! One of the most beautiful and saddest songs ever!
Beautiful one I am by far one of the toughest meanest guys on the planet nothing gets me to cry but I listen to this song everyday and every time I get tears in my eyes nothing else does it but this song
I really liked this song when I first heard it. Since then my wife died and now it leaves me in a bit of a mess. But I still come back to it and wallow in the emotion it evokes.
I'm right there with you, man. For me it was losing my youngest daughter. Amy's voice and lyrics are a beautiful torture but I come back and listen again and again.
Hauntingly beautiful. Love Evanescence, Loved the reaction. Amy Lee connects to her music so intensely. You said it perfectly, the video with the song was impactful.
Beautiful song and beautiful heartrending lyrics. If you want to cry then watch this years 'The Voice Kids' from Germany and a young girl called Madeleine Mit who sings 'My Immortal' with such feeling!
Amy Lee is in my top five of female singers. There's just something I've always found fascinating her beyond her musical talent. Such a beautiful woman! And this song.....breaks me. It's hard for me to listen to it sometimes. I lost someone who I have missed everyday since she left. And this brings all that back. My band covers it, and it's the only song I'll play the piano on as a tribute to her.
The video is so well done. The fact she never touches the ground and the bandages on her wrist. He is obviously the ghost but was it because of suicide or self sacrifice. So good!
I've always thought of this song as an emotional breakdown, set to music. The opening section is the buildup, all the issues buildingbup. The electric guitar and drums kicking in are the dam breaking, and the emotions finally overwhelming you. The final bit, going back to the piano, is where the crying ends, and the healing starts.
I’m listening to this for the first time since my wife passed away on August 9, 2024. I know that most of the music that I listened to, I cannot listen to now. When your life changes, the music that you (or at least I) listen to changes also. I’ll post something after listening if I am so inclined.
I guess that I don’t know the context of the songs lyrics but in my case, I don’t want “time” to erase ANY OF MY MEMORIES AND FEELINGS OF MY WIFE AND OUR LIFE TOGETHER. Our first date was on her 16th Birthday in 1982. She was only 58.
Well my dear I would not trust one person not affected by this song! She is a ghost. Watch the video again and she never touches the ground and the children don’t see her!
Uh oh beautiful 😍 Amy Lee has voice of angel if I was dying my last wish would be for Amy Lee to come by my side hold me and sing my last breath but just before my immortal then could die at peace
You shouuld react to Portishead. (Live/orchestra versions preferably) IF, you haven't heard them.. Beth Orton might be my favourite singer... since you said you're loving female vocals lately. My choices for you would be- Humming, Over, Mysterons or Strangers.. They have a very unique sound as a band.
If you really pay attention to the video, you will notice that even though Amy is singing the lyrics, her character is not the "speaker" of the words within the story. It's actually the guy character that has suffered the loss. Amy's character is the one being spoken about; she is the one haunting him. She never touches the ground, and no one interacts with her. She is a ghost/angel!
Amy Lee's voice is so ethereal....just stunning. Please react to Amy Lee & Lindsay Sterling's collab - 'I Don't Need Drugs' - stripped back but POWERFUL! 💔
Its about a mans love for a nice warm, salty philly pretzel; at least thats what take from this song👍 they have another huge hit that gives me visions of philly cheesesteaks
Ok, Clarity. Try these songs. WHY by Annie Lennox, formerly of The Eurythmics. DAMN, I WISH I WAS YOUR LOVER by Sophie B. Hawkins. SEND ME A LOVER by Taylor Dayne. SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT by Bonnie Raitt. And finally, BABY, IT'S YOU by the group known as Smith. Keep going and enjoy the music.

Thanks, I feel so hard on the song as well. It is open concept for what person close I'd direct it too: be family or fiancé. Sometimes a song says more than a person can. It just is too much..
You really sould check-out a song called Hello, is about Amy's sister, who died at age 3, if i'm not mistaken... Amy was a child by that time, and the song is the child point of view about her lost... Is most beautiful song by Evanescense... Congratulations for your channel and salutes from Brazil...
That’s correct. Also from the second album there’s a song called ‘like you’ that’s about her sister. Amy has stated she can’t sing hello live because it’s too painful.
Amy is a spirit in this video, her feet never touched the ground. Word has she committed suicide and she's the one suffering because of her sin, having to watch the one she left behind. Also the children playing can't see her. Also that's why she has bandages on her hands and feet.
I have major issues with any leading band member who says they hate one of the songs which sold countless millions of records for them. If they hate them so much they should never have bloody well released them! Radiohead's 'Creep' an another one. (Thom Yorke said he hates one of his own songs. FFS!!)
This band's first album is still by far their best by a big margin. Every track is a stand-out. Songs like this and 'Everybody's Fool' are really special. Unfortunately, the bands spectacular disintegration after the album left them merely ordinary after that and they never really recaptured the old magic.

That specific line always breaks me..🥹
An absolutely haunting masterpiece ...
You're right. I stow it away in a playlist for certain days. I don't want to cry every time. Amazing song.

Agreed, we're all dead already, so make it count.
The definition of a song being bigger than the band. This is a masterpiece that will last the test of time.
Honestly I think everyone who has experienced loss of a loved one can 100% relate to this song and if not, you can still somewhat relate because it makes you feel their grief and wanting to hug them to take away the sorrow.

This is a beautiful, sad song .
@ Awweee 😢Sorry for your loss.
I've got this song in my playlists since it was released 21 years ago. It is timeless. Great song!
IF you watch, her feet never touch the ground. SHE has passed, and he can't let her go. AMY has such a beautiful voice!
It's powerful I cry every time it's ok so beautiful, you said everything love it keep rocking
Amy touches everyone's soul when she sings

They both haunt each other. She is dead, never touches the ground
I keep hearing this but I’m not sure the interpretation is correct…especially when you know the back story of this song.
