Hey I remember seeing you post on the discord! Thank you for making this video, good watch. Also, glad you used my picture! I'm really happy with how quickly HTC resolved the issue and even reinforced that part of the headset for me and later models.
@@RinoaL Looking forward to hear how it's working out for you:) I'm thinking it might make it easier not to sit so statically, as I end up doing with a monitor.
Thanks for doing this. There aren't many people who are aware that the headset now isn't the unfinished/poor quality control headset they launched. HTC also doesn't make it clear that they're willing to replace defective units.
I've been curious about this headset for so long. I have a Quest Pro. I wonder if the Vive XR Elite would be worth getting to add to my collection instead of a Quest 3.
the part about buying stuff to fill a void... it spoke to me. speaking of which I got the quest 3! XD and the most incredible experience I had with it, was making myself a sandwich while watching a youtube video in pass through mode. the void is partially filled, for now.
We live in a void, but humans are what bring joy and pain to the void. Thankfully we’ve all slowly worked towards bringing beauty to the void, so it’s a little easier to enjoy
I made my first VR headset with a Raspberry Pi. Before the headsets came about. My friends asked me why. Honestly, my first application was to type in the headset to remove external distraction.
Show us the monitor thing (with dummy plugs??), and how you share your desktop to the headset, does it lock those "monitors" and how that shaking, does it have any anti features for that? Also, can you resize that menu to larger? it is little bit small right now.
It does well in low light, however it can take a bit longer for it to begin tracking in low light because it takes more time to get its bearings. I just look towards a lamp an it acts the same as in a well lit room
Yeah I've done it with just one lamp, but I would recommend having a few more than just one. Every room in a house should have more than one light source to give a comforting atmosphere.
I love your personality souch when it comes to tech and simply having a little damn patience with a device 😂 Sitting on an ebay bid for one of these @ 500 right now. Lets see!
I bought some DJI FPV goggles and I was so stoked about them, and when I got them and saw them for the first time up close and put them on, my heart just sank. They really were pretty bad. You had a fan blowing on your eyeballs, and it was like you were a little roach in a roach theater looking at a movie screen... not even an imax screen. They were heavy and it was hard to breathe under them. I had to wear my glasses under them. I hated them. I still have them, but it was a bad investment. Now that I'm getting eye surgery, I'm going to be trying to use them again, but still.. kind of a bust.
Try joining the official discord server if you havent already. They have good updates and help on hardware, and your used one may be still under warranty if it ever fails
So I bought the XR Elite day one and returned it due to how bad the software was for the price, I really enjoyed the form though. I found this video and found one for $520 used like new with the box. It will be delivered tomorrow. Now that is has virtual desktop too and my upgraded wifi 7 router I think this headset may be good to go. I also have the quest 3 still within return policy so now I have to play with them both. I may PCVR the Elite and have the Quest 3 for the stand alone and my kids like it too. Not sure yet. But for $520 I don’t think I can’t not keep the XR elite it was comfy to watch video’s and chill with too.
Yeah the used price makes it a whole lot more palletable. Keep in mind that the devs are still working on Virtual Desk which should have more features than Virtual Desktop when it comes out.
see, now you are tempting the heck out of me with this. I am looking to upgrade from my old Samsung Odyssey and I hate the idea of giving any money to zuck-bot.
the issue with the headset "is" the diopter adjustment for non-glasswearing folk. I had one of these and the visuals gave me a headache. i have 20/20 vision and that is a problem. It's also just not that comfortable to wear after an hour of use... the glasses mode just doesn't work. the software is bad also. Maybe they improved it but it was trash garbage there when i got it. the desktop app was horrendous too. I had a vive cosmos as well and the same vive issues exist. nobody has faith in htc anymore when it comes to making headsets. this headset was a failure for a reason. there may be some up sides but the down sides are huge. glad the prices are dropping, but that is more of a tell than a "wow great deal" imho.
It was trash, for at least the first six months. Now it's perfectly serviceable as a quest equivalent with next to no shortcomings compared to them (besides less than desirable FOV). I threw away the original interface after they redesigned it. Like AAA gaming nowadays, they finished it post launch. The problem wasn't that they couldn't make a headset, it was that their leadership forced a premature release, probably out of needless panic over Meta. Just like the Focus 3, just like the Pro 2, just like the cosmos. Good engineers, bad leaders. Unfortunately their CEO is also the founder and chairman, so this will never change. Also, if you got a headache from the visuals, you probably either had a lemon (like most early models), or you didn't have them set to 0.
@@RinoaL Oregon's great, just keep your driving local unless you're like me and you like driving winding rural roads with steep sides. I suppose I was clutching at straws because-- and this might sound a little strange but I've conferred with a friend and they agree-- I've never seen anyone with the same speech patterns or non-verbal patterns as me before and I'm finding it intriguing.
@@RinoaL I'm a Midwesterner living in Oregon lol. I'm from Wisconsin. So we tend to say things a bit strange up there and give people from Illinois crap. Anyways I had a XR Elite but I didnt end up returning it because of comfort, the diopter for my 20/20 vison seemed wrong and the glare was pretty bad. Software yeah it was bad, but for me it was the hardware.. While the device is a pretty device just fell short for me. I ended up getting a Quest Pro for cheap. I also had a Varjo Aero, Pico 4 and now I have a Quest 3, Pimax Crystal and have a Bigscreen Beyond on order. Dug the video lots of good information!
The Quest 3 isnt the one to beat as its simply the quest 2 with better passthrough. The headset to beat is the Quest Pro, which Ive concluded doesnt exist yet. The Vive XR was getting units coming back the same week. Its simply garbage. Its dim, has a narrow face gasket, hurts the nose, very small FOV (What they say online is wrong! Its closer to 97 Degree FOV. Its been out for like 6 months and Im pretty sure its getting discontinued next year. This thing fucking FLOPPED! And the Quest 3 followed it. Quest pro or a Pico 4 with no face gasket and a small thin square of foam in its place. I just saved you thousands as Ive owned all of these.

Hey Bizz!
Playing Quest 2 for the first time brought me similar joy to what Wii did back in the day.
It’s really a little magical isnt it?
It's so fun to share with people and to see their reaction too. 🫶
I'm wondering if this would work for office work for hours on end?
Im planning to do office work with it, 3d modeling and such too. I think you’d want to make or get a custom face gasket for long time use

Its becoming a pretty solid HMD

Finally someone has a NEW review on this thing people should review this thing at least every 8 months or a year ❤️
Yeah I plan to review it again, it seems to have improved again
ordered this headset for 500 on ebay, found this video and saw that you did exactly what i did to my original rift cv1 lol

just got mine for 350 off of Facebook market. you're definitely correct about finding cheap one if you know where to look

I just used the onboard recording tbh, and it ends up that I dont need the fake hdmi plugs anymore, the vive desk demo has its own video drivers
Great, thank you.
How does it compare versus the Vive 2? Resolution wise, and working with virtual desktops.
I'd get the Vive XR elite I might not know much about but the Vive Pro 2 has higher resolution BUT has LCD lens and bad glare it's super outdated now.
How good is the tracking in low light I remember the vive cosmos required for you to be on the surface of the sun
It does well in low light, however it can take a bit longer for it to begin tracking in low light because it takes more time to get its bearings. I just look towards a lamp an it acts the same as in a well lit room

Anyone know what I should do with my Oculus Developer Version? This is like the first one that came out.
Give it to a museum or to a collector. But the longer you wait the more someone would pay for it.

Dangit. I was going to get a nice set of open back headphones... Now I might grab one of these for assetto corsa.
Get the headphones. Hifiman Sundaras specifically are 🤌

I kept my launch day ordered xr elite and have outlasted the frustrations. Barely use my vive pros or quest 2 any more

Is the frame rate smoother when u stream using a cable?
I haven’t streamed with a cable but the bitrate should be better
Just picked up one for 463
