Rest in peace little Hind. Thank you, Joe, for your amazing and poetic restorations of time keeping devices. And thank your for your humanity, which transcends our temporally limited existence.
I’ll hope you and your family are all well in these dark, troubled times, Joe🍀 One year of depravity that could easily have been avoided. ⚖️🇵🇸🇱🇧 Thank you for your videos, craftmanship, and calm, kind humanity.
Every video I love watching, it’s my calming experience watching you repair watches. I just wish our world leaders would watch as well. Rest in peace sweet little Hind
Why do i watch? To be educated, check. To watch a master craftsman do his thing, check. To escape this crazy world we live in for a few moments while i watch him, check. Being lucky enough that the man doing it has his humanity in check? Check. Great tribute Joe thanks for being my escape.
They made at least 3 movements and another was ready for production (thermocompensated and perpetual calendar) for a new oysterquartz, a prototype (steel Day-date in 17014 case) emerged for sale done years ago and Rolex tried (unsuccessfully) to stop the sale
Sad part is, throughout human history the majority of children died most times slow and horrible deaths... but no tears shed for them, or for those precious children who died in Europe's Bubonic Plague, or the Tutsi children genocided in Africa, or the hundreds of thousands of children trafficked across the US' southern border, lost and never to be seen again. Well, I suppose tears need shed, if for no other reason than to feel like you've done something, you're a good person and you really care. :)
My brother in law was visiting recently. He like me has a keen interest watches. Staunch R.C. He was interested in the watch restoration. The kids popped in too. Politics were not lost on him obviously. At the end he said "I wish he lived next door to me" Keep it up Brother. Keep it up.
Hey, how come Rolex fan boys just wanna see a Rolex period? Yes, most of us agree that a Rolex is a decent brand. However, there are many other brands out there. This channel is refreshing, relaxing, and different and not just all about Rolex. Keep up the great work that you produce on your amazing brilliant channel.
Finding out that Rolexes F-150 design aesthetic is a deliberate choice and not just some baked in tradition makes me like the main stream watches less though.
Hi Joe, - Many of us remember sweet HIND and will NEVER forget her pleas for help .. even down here in NZ, - The U S administration repeatedly affirms it is investigating her murder by IDF troops. Keep up the good work Joe. That old Rolex is rather nicely built eh - a good looking battery fueled timekeeper., Peace Mate,
A great video, with your unique blend of expertise and social conscience. ❤ A tip for soldering (and you might already do this) is to clean off any flux afterwards with a swab dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Reduces any further risk of corrosion down the line. 👍
I love quartz watches so this was very interesting. The sad tribute to Hind reminds us that much of the world has gone mad. If only being civilized had greater appeal.
You can buy solder paste that would suit this soldering job perfectly. It's the consistency of toothpaste. Just a tiny blob on each connector, (which also helps 'stick' the component in place), then apply heat & the jobs a good one.
I expected the quartz crystal in a Rolex watch to be held in place by screws so that it could be changed without welding if necessary. Thank you very much for your excellent work. Please keep the people of Gaza in your prayers
Always a pleasure watching your interesting new videos. As has been mentioned in other posts...you would have had a much easier time using a bit of solder paste...micro granules of solder balls in a liquid flux which can be heated with a stanmech heat gun to carefully melt the solder. It can be dialed down to a low setting with very precise tempurature that will flow the solder paste and keep everything nice and tidy. Also the look of the solder joint should be shiny. It was hard to tell if you kept the heat long enough but the color of the join was giving the impression of a cold solder joint. This can fail after a time of cycling h/c which will create a fracture over time. I know everyone's a critic but considering your not necessarily a expert in micro soldering then you pass either way. I have done many a micro joint by hand with both Iron and heat gun. Practice is all it takes. Thanks for the video and happy trails!
Quartz movements deserve some love from time to time, it would be nice if you could do a few videos on early quartz and previous tech (before quartz) like electronic and accutrons. Great work.
That’s a beautiful quartz movement! Your solder is too cold, it is working but it will be prone to separating. The solder joint should be shiny when you’re done
I have no problem with Rolex making a quartz. Many people prefer them, so why not make a nice looking one? Looking on eBay, the prices don’t seem too ridiculous, like they do for the Rolex tool watches, and the prices seem to reflect the amount of precious metals rather than the Rolex cachet. Joe, I like long videos from you, and short ones. This was a nice video to watch during lunch. Now I gotta get back to work.
“OK I need silence for this bit.” UA-cam sticks in an advert for a leccy toothbrush 😅. Nice one. Soldering is always a bit nerve wracking unless it’s plumbing pipe!
And I didn't see anything because I'm not the sort of skin flint that puts up with commercials because I can't justify the monthly cost UA-cam premium.
Can you believe it friend. Here in Canada I came across one of those and had a friend tell me I was a fake.i sold it cheap and didn't realize what I was doing. Still don't know how much there worth. Great video. Thanks. 😎👍🇨🇦
Nothing wrong with the quartz rolexes. I inherited a ladies datejust from my grandma, who received it as a gift a long time ago. Pop a new battery in every now and then, still runs perfectly.
Every day is a school day, I honestly never knew that Rolex had dabbled in the dark art that is battery and quartz, another illusion shattered that at least one Swiss watchmaker had not joined the soulless movement. Thanks Joe...I think 😂
I really like the look of this less common Rolex and I’m glad it’s under appreciated by the irrational Rolex fanboys. It’s a bit dainty but it has an undeniable charm. I don’t mind a quality quartz movement and this looks like a lot of effort went into to its design. Thanks for sharing Joe, hope you’re well ✌️
The whole AD experience of trying to buy a Rolex is something I never plan to deal with again. I'll stick with Omega's, Tags and Hamiltons. At least they wanted to sell me watches.
Wrapping a piece of copper wire around the tip is something I would have never thought of. Well done. You might tell the accountant that you need a proper surface mount soldering iron.
I appreciate the work that your doing thats the only reason why i "snitch " about that facebook user , and i only noticed because the video with the roamer stingray is one of my favorite videos from you, it also became my grail watch and want to owne one some day.
Love these videos that they are absolutely fantastic. Always look forward to watching them. could I ask what movement holders to use? many thanks, Alex
Another great vid of that quartz..and service to someones ill attempt at being a watchmaker. Wouldn't want to be the person to see you in your office...Always enjoy your vids. Thank you sir.
My "Rolex" uses a battery. I bought it brand new circa 1988 for US$10 at a little shop near Time Square NYC. I'm sure it's a genuine Rolex, LOL. ;-) !!
Up until today, if I ran across a Rolex with a battery, I would have summarily tossed it in the garbage. I never knew Rolex actually made a quartz watch.
Hey Joe . Love the channel, even though my last watch was a Casio calculator . I just inherited my dads Tudor 1960’s 9ct gold that his father got for 45 years working for British rail. I’m not going to wear it but I would like it to work. Can anyone suggest a good repair shop in Glasgow because it’s been in a box for years and I’m guessing it’s probably going to need some recommissioning work.
Even such a simply filmed and edited video is so enjoyable to watch. We’re all here for your personality and humor, and the watch repair is also nice.
Thanks mate. Really appreciate it. Love your work too

"IN MEMORY OF HIND RAJAB", Pierced my heart and brought tears to my eyes, but now she's in the best place EVER.
I never knew Rolex made a Quartz watch. Learned something new.
OysterQuartz was a thing for several decades.
They made at least 3 movements and another was ready for production (thermocompensated and perpetual calendar) for a new oysterquartz, a prototype (steel Day-date in 17014 case) emerged for sale done years ago and Rolex tried (unsuccessfully) to stop the sale
Great video. Over shadowed by reminding us of a terrible tragedy and injustice. Thank you for doing both
Thanks!
Thank you 🙏
Rolex even makes a beautiful quartz watch ! great video .
Rest in power, little Hind. We won't forget you.
I'd like to say something about this but UA-cam's censor-bots will immediately stuff any criticism of the neo-cons down the memory hole.

Thank you for sharing this video. A beautiful watch.
Joe I enjoy your humor and caring, also anything you post is always a learning experience! Thank you

Thanks for sharing your passion and compassion!
Thanks Joe the masterwatchmaker for new video .... Fantastic...
Good to see you back on you tube after a break.
Last week I said I didn’t like the aesthetics of Rolex, but this one is nice looking.
