I’m in Switzerland so local, was just over CHF 1000 which is around GBP 850. Service took 2 months. Still ok and runs and looks like new. Yeah similar to me, also I forgot to mention had the bracelet replaced, it was stretched. I used to run with it back in the day. Have mine 29 years now. About $800 US for the bracelet from what I remember.
Was it serviced at the Rolex store or was it sent away? I would have replaced the bezel for sure, and the cost for the dial and handset isn’t really that expensive considering the value of the watch.
"Ps they also clean and oil reseal, and replace worn parts like the worn out jewels as well" NO WAY. They do the service during the service? Who would have thought, eh?
People think that their watch is “sent” away to Rolex for service,in fact most long standing AD’s have all the machines & gadgets from Rolex in the jewellers plus an member of staff who has gone on a course to enable them to do the work. The 2 ADs in Edinburgh namely Laings and Hamilton and Inches being cases in point.
FYI… I’ve only been interested in mechanical watches for the last 4 or 5 years. I’ve watched tons of videos including all of yours. After watching your explorer videos I decided that was the watch for me. I struggled with getting the 36 or the new 40 mm. After a long wait time I finally got the call. I now own the 40 mm explorer and it’s PERFECT on my 7 1/4 inch wrist. I must be extremely lucky because after a month and a half it’s only 1 second fast. I couldn’t be happier and Ty for the recommending this Perfect watch 👊🏼
Right call on keeping the dial. Love the marks and scratches between the twelve and two. Agreed on the patina and character, I scratched my bracelet almost immediately at my first day at work. My heart didn't even sink. More like, "It's mine now".
I used to care about outside scratches on the case until I saw more and more vintage watches that used to be polished. Over time all the scratches made them looked brushed. That gave me peace of mind of what mine will look like in the future.
I have a Tudor and went to Rolex in Shanghai as Tudor in Shanghai doesn't have a service centre.... But I got the worst service ive gotten in my life there. Staff members laughing at my questions and talking behind my back whilst I was waiting. Little did they know I understand Mandarin. Took a picture of her name tag, she was called Cindy. Made me feel like I need to throw my Tudor in the river and go buy Omega.
My dude, Tudor is a meme brand with shelf movements. A literal cashgrab brand that lives on due to uneducated consumers. Everyone that knows better laughs at someone owning a tudor.
@@mudemmeonick a little insensitive there my friend. I own a number of high end watches and wouldn't laugh at anyone owning a Tudor especially someone taking pride in it and having it serviced. We all start somewhere.

@@BowlOfSalmonLike another commenter here, I had my Milgauss serviced in London under warranty: watch was back on my wrist in three weeks. I had opted out of any refinishing too.
I like that you have your Explorer 2 back in running condition. I to have an Explorer 2 white dial on a Bark and Jack gray strap. I like that you chose to keep your watch with your life scratches.
I purchased my Sea Dweller in January 1987. I had an off on my motorcycle in 1993 and had a similar outcome of a broken crystal. I had it rebuilt by Rolex and as of October 2024, it continues to be one of my most worn watches. After seeing your video, I think it’s time for a rebuild. Thanks for the reminder.
Very surprised with cost, great call not changing dial.. still have my ‘99 dial I bought after your video couple years back.. great to see you doing so well 🎉🎉🎉
Good decision Mr Barker. Very informative and helpful. I like how they broke down everything. The need to change the date disc because of tiny scratches and possible paint coming off is great. That attention to detail and keeping it transparent is confident boosting
I have a total dislike of NATO watch straps. When I look at my watch to check the time, the last thing I want to see is that ugly fold of whatever material the strap is made of, sticking up close to the top of the case. Absolutely hideous. The Oyster bracelet is an engineering and design masterpiece, why anyone would want to discard it for a NATO strap is beyond me.
excellent update! Sinn currently has a 6 MONTH eta for servicing so it is surprising to hear Rolex had such a quick turnaround. Glad they were able to get ol' girl tuned up and back in the rotation.
The biggest “advantage” of the bracelet is that using it decreases greatly one’s chances of dropping the watch onto a rock while changing straps. I’m so happy you have your watch back, and it’s whole and ready to go. I’ve had 3 or 4 of my Rolexes serviced by the Rolex-Dallas Service Center, and have always been pleased.
Glad you didnt get the scratches/dents taken out, it adds to the watches story, love reading threads online of 50/60's watches that are absolutely battered but have so much story with them.
Hi Adrian, glad to hear its all sorted and likewise I'm impressed at the cost too...i was thinking it'd be north of £1000. On another note, that army green strap is awesome...well and truly up my street!
Good episode. Rolex service is first class, I had my 34 year old Day Date completely overhauled by Rolex and it now looks and runs like a brand new watch. If that had been my Explorer, I would have had Rolex change the dial and polish it. But to each his own. Love your channel. Cheers!.
I’ve had two of my Rolex’s serviced a little over 10yrs ago but may never do so again. Nit because I received bad service but because of the things I’ve learned about servicing since. Glad it worked out really well for you. 🤙👊
That’s a good price for the service. Especially with the amount of components they serviced. Also I love how smoothly you took the bracelet off. Rolex/tudor bracelets are fitted on tight. It’s always a pain with a single spring bar tool.
Glad your Explorer II is back with you, there’s always a small hole in the back of your mind when a watch in your collection is away being serviced… and a feeling of satisfaction knowing it’s been professionally serviced at the OEM upon its return. I’m capable of servicing my own uncomplicated watches but still prefer to send them to the AD for maintenance if they’re relatively young.
I was a little depressed this morning but I watched this video that UA-cam recommended to me and I couldn't stop laughing the whole time. Sometimes it's good to take a step back from your problems and see that there are people worse off than you who have completely lost their way in life because of materialism and the worship of objects. Thank you for this breath of life.
When I serviced my date at hausmann in Rome the refused to provide me with the sort of final invoice Adrian shared with the breakdown of what was done. Not all Rolex authorised dealers have the same standard. Stay away from this particular one in Rome Italy.
The place he went to is opposite Harrods in London. If you can’t get a professional service there then there’s no hope. Other Rolex outlets should offer a similar level of professionalism but lesson learned - I’ll be visiting London with my pieces in future when the time comes.
I respect a well worn watch and this owner’s decision to keep it original. These marvellous devices (especially tool watches of this sort) are meant to be enjoyed and clearly this one has. Good on ya for keeping it original.
I had my Polar 16570 serviced last year. It was sent you to RSC from local AD. Good experience, I told them full service with NO POLISH AND NO COSMETIC CHANGES and they followed that perfectly. Watch came back running perfectly and still scratched.
@@justinhamill954My tudor gmt was running bonkers fast, had it repaired under warranty, and it came back in a lovely Tudor pouch. Omega give you a nice red travel case.
Good result Adrian, this is in stark contrast to my attempt to have the cracked crystal replaced on my fathers 1987 gold quartz retirement watch, I handed over to the Seiko dealer who sent it off to Seiko Australia. Three months later it came back with a note stating that they were unable to make the watch work again!! I don’t often swear in public, but I did on this occasion as the watch was working perfectly when I handed it over! at this point I think the jeweller actually pooped his pants and disappeared with my watch out the back of his shop, to return 5 minutes later looking very relieved and announcing that the watch was in fact working perfectly! however it still had its cracked crystal..
Literally nearly messaged you about the status of your Explorer yesterday! Great to see you’ve got it back. Pretty reasonable I’d say. Bet you’re happy to have it back! Another set of memories added to it. Enjoy.
I've owned a Rolex with a 3130 since new in 2008. I've never serviced it. It's still accurate to around 10spd. I generally don't service my watches unless there is a problem with them. The minute they start to keep time poorly or feel inconsistent when winding, I take them to a watchmaker. I've collected for a long time, and since UA-cam I've seen a growing trend for talking about servicing watches, when in reality most don't need to be serviced as regularly as brands or UA-camrs suggest. Obviously...do what you want with your own watches, but that's what I've always done with mine.
@@Pookie2533 What's crazy about that? Your comparison really doesn't hold. Does you car repair shop completely dismantle the car, clean it with ultrasonic fluids, remove all dents including a polish, reassemble it and put it on test for five days for £300? It be more like £3,000 if they did. And that's even without saying that your car requires that £300 service every year, whereas a Rolex watch will run for another 12 years on a £1,050 service.
This man’s presentation skills are next level. I used to actively dislike the explorer 2 as Rolex’s weakest watch and now all I can think about is owning one on a nylon strap
I just got my explorer 2 black dial fully serviced and dial changed to polar at Rolex and the service was great and it’s nice to have the nfc card and warranty. I got the same discount by telling them not to polish the case. Congrats on having it back so soon.
This is why I dislike micro brands / grey market for items that require service / maintenance. If I’m buying an unnecessary emotional item I would rather spend a bit extra and get that warranty / service centre / AD network.
Was waiting for this. Overall a good end to the chapter of this watches certainly long life. Glad everything went smoothly and seemingly, came back exactly how you wanted.
Got the call for the black Ex2 a couple of months back. This has been the only Rolex I've wanted from the current line-up apart from one day getting one in polar white. Thanks for sharing the service costs. While expensive, it's also reassuring. Congrats on keeping the history of the watch intact with scuffs and dings. If it gets handed down the family, those marks will be cherished one day.
I sent my Tag Heuer in for a service and asked for it not to be polished or fix any scratches as they all meant something to me, it came back so shiny it’s now not my watch I was furious!
Bravo foe not getting the dial replaced and the case polished. I’m glad to hear you say that the scratches and dents add to the story of the watch. That’s exactly how I feel as well. Not only do watches tell us the time, they tell us the story of the times we’ve had.
I'm glad you are satisfied with the service you got from Rolex. My first thought is that the service was so fast and reasonably priced because you are you and well known in the Watch community. I have also heard my share of Horror stories about Rolex service.
Love that you only got the "necessary" repairs done and that you kept as much original as you could. And that Rolex offers that as an option - one of my fears about getting my 112266 serviced has been that they'd polish it and replace the bezel and that in turn I'd lose so many of the "stories" of the watch that make it so dear to me. Very glad to know that's not the case, and to see that you've got your watch back with all of the memories still in tact. Cheers!
Really appreciate the video and the break down of the cost, the cost of the crystal is a lot less than what I expected. Just wondering if the serviced crystal still has the crown etched in?
Adrian, aka Mr. Barker, this all seems quite professionally done and a very reasonable price for what was repaired and replaced. Like similar high end mechanical items, you pay for quality and piece of mind. Nice video.
Good to hear that Rolex care the utmost about their creations. Others high end watches do likewise. My 1974 Rolex sit in the original box since 1988 after the last service because for me is a trade off between pleasure to wear it and safety. Instead my old G-Shock roughness and precision compensated well for that.
Thanks for the video Adrian, most informative. This is actually useful stuff for watch owners to know about. I'm interested if you insured the watch, and if so - was the costs of this repair not covered?
Good job, I had my Jaeger-LeCoultre vintage 1950s automatic engine 481, fully serviced, disassembled, replaced crown, glass, polished the hands (not too much) new JLC buckle, soft polish of the 18ct Gold case, took 12mths, and head office in Swiss, £1400.
I was curious to see what actually happens when sending a watch for a significant boo boo like this. I believe the price was totally reasonable, the turn around terrific, and the customer service first class. I don't want a similar accident- but if it ever happens I feel better about the outcome now. Photography & filming were SO Great on this video! Well done.
Thanks for the insight to your experience with your Rolex. I had to send my Tudor back and six weeks turnaround. I was quite expecting to come back with tudor pouch etc.. It came back exactly like yours in rolex pouch and box. 😊
A well executed video on a subject no doubt all here wanted to see and hear of your results! Love your honesty when discussing the results from Rolex and its costing. I wonder if Omega will be the same when my 3861 eventually requires a service and God forbid any accidental mishaps !!😮
If you’re going to wear a watch daily to the extent it gets that scratched then I wouldn’t have polished it either. You’ll get it scratched back again in no time!! I sent my Daytona for service (only movement, light bracelet polish) to Switzerland right before COVID and that took 6 months (Feb-Mar 2020) to get it back but understandable. Thanks for sharing!! 🎉🎉🎉
Adrian, as it's your everyday watch, minor knocks and scratches are inevitable. If you had had the case refinished like new, how long would it stay that way? Not worth it. Having the dial and hands replaced would lose an element of originality of the watch. Different matter if they were noticeably disfigured, but I struggled to spot damage to the dial and hands. Overall, you made a good call on this repair, and thumbs up to Rolex for being so comprehensive in the service they provide. A quality watch like this deserves to be serviced / repaired by the maker.
That is a very quick turnaround for a service. I left my Omega Seamaster 300 GMT with an Omega boutique for a service and was quoted 12 weeks. I’m wondering why there is such a disparity.
Not a horrible bill. Had a similar issue with my Yachtmaster and like you was surprised that it wasn’t as heavy of a bill as I had expected. Great call on keeping the story of the watch by not polishing or changing the dial, creates character and imo adds charm. Cheers-Mike
I think price was very reasonable considering the damage and its a rolex. I would of had it polished but that's personal choice. Most significantly I usually never like straps or natos on anything but that green looks absolutely stunning!!!,

"Ps they also clean and oil reseal, and replace worn parts like the worn out jewels as well"
NO WAY. They do the service during the service? Who would have thought, eh?
Was it done at a local store or sent back to Rolex. My Sub needs a recondition after 20 years
The transition of the strap footage was so good
People think that their watch is “sent” away to Rolex for service,in fact most long standing AD’s have all the machines & gadgets from Rolex in the jewellers plus an member of staff who has gone on a course to enable them to do the work.
Thanks so much for watching David, and huge congrats on your 40mm Explorer. Such a great watch!
I watched two unskippable ads for this Adrian. 😂😂
Very worth it - congrats!
Right call on keeping the dial. Love the marks and scratches between the twelve and two. Agreed on the patina and character, I scratched my bracelet almost immediately at my first day at work. My heart didn't even sink. More like, "It's mine now".
Agreed, I scratched my treasured seiko on day 2 and I didn't mind at all - it meant I could pick it out of an identical seiko line up if I needed to!
Your a complete knob
I used to care about outside scratches on the case until I saw more and more vintage watches that used to be polished. Over time all the scratches made them looked brushed. That gave me peace of mind of what mine will look like in the future.
reminds him not to be a muppet and change straps over some rocks while trying to take yet another "wrist shot"
Really appreciate all the types of content and background knowledge you provide !
Glad to hear it´s back on your wrist for more adventures 👍
I have a Tudor and went to Rolex in Shanghai as Tudor in Shanghai doesn't have a service centre.... But I got the worst service ive gotten in my life there. Staff members laughing at my questions and talking behind my back whilst I was waiting. Little did they know I understand Mandarin. Took a picture of her name tag, she was called Cindy. Made me feel like I need to throw my Tudor in the river and go buy Omega.
Had they known you speak mandarin they wouldn’t have behaved like that
A classic, some kind of chinoiseries..
@@shanghaiffgg you saved me the time in responding to that dumb*ss. TY!
It is quite difficult to feel sorry for those with more money than sense.
I like that you kept the watch with the nicks and scratches. It does add character and tells your story with it.
Great video and this is the type of consumer advice that I crave. Brilliant… more like this please!
Its nice to see content that is about the long term enjoyment of watches. I love those stories of lives lived well with one great watch.
Quite surprised with the cost not bad at all
Thanks for the follow up. So many horror stories. Cost is better than I expected. You think you got a better treatment because they might (probably) know you ? (Not talking cost , just in turnover time and guidance)
@@landandair2179 still that’s 770 pounds he could’ve used on something else 😭
Yup, really not bad at all. I'm also not surprised at the cost, as my dad has a DJ that he's just recently had serviced.
@@BowlOfSalmonLike another commenter here, I had my Milgauss serviced in London under warranty: watch was back on my wrist in three weeks. I had opted out of any refinishing too.
same year... maybe because they knew him (as youtuber..)?
I like that you have your Explorer 2 back in running condition. I to have an Explorer 2 white dial on a Bark and Jack gray strap. I like that you chose to keep your watch with your life scratches.
I purchased my Sea Dweller in January 1987. I had an off on my motorcycle in 1993 and had a similar outcome of a broken crystal. I had it rebuilt by Rolex and as of October 2024, it continues to be one of my most worn watches. After seeing your video, I think it’s time for a rebuild. Thanks for the reminder.
Very surprised with cost, great call not changing dial.. still have my ‘99 dial I bought after your video couple years back.. great to see you doing so well 🎉🎉🎉
Noticed you set the LA to 55, thought the new Rolex movements were 53 degrees?
I’ve seen reports of 3235 lift angle being updated to 53 from 55, but haven’t seen any info on the 3285 being updated to 53 from 55.
Agreed. No nato for me. We ain’t in the army, F*** it off lol
No one cares.
Yapping about nothing
actually, we do.
😂
excellent update!
So I guess we're not going to see Adrian's watch on David SW listed as being in "Excellent" condition.
Still will be excellent condition in other dealers 😂😂😂
🤣
🤙👊
Pleasantly surprised at that turn around time and cost actually. Would I have changed the dial? No idea tbh 😅
As one who needs an Explorer serviced, I was relieved at the cost.
Thanks for that!.
Absolutely reasonable price. I was screaming £1,200 at the screen for the first three minutes. I think you got a good deal. Good job, Rolex.
That’s a good price for the service. Especially with the amount of components they serviced.
Also I love how smoothly you took the bracelet off. Rolex/tudor bracelets are fitted on tight. It’s always a pain with a single spring bar tool.
Not a premium watch, but Hamilton replaced the crystal on my Khaki at no cost. 😀
Cool rundown, Adrian. I'm glad that you're pleased with the service from Rolex. And the price . . .
@@bobbydazzler1780 Harrods? He went to St James's square service centre.
I respect a well worn watch and this owner’s decision to keep it original. These marvellous devices (especially tool watches of this sort) are meant to be enjoyed and clearly this one has. Good on ya for keeping it original.
I thought ir was gonna be well over 1k, not a bad price at all considering what they did!!
I had my Polar 16570 serviced last year. It was sent you to RSC from local AD. Good experience, I told them full service with NO POLISH AND NO COSMETIC CHANGES and they followed that perfectly. Watch came back running perfectly and still scratched.
Nice to be a watch influencer when you send in a watch - gotta think it speeds up the process. Although I could be wrong - 😂😂
Absolutely agree. I sent my fiance's watch to be fixed under warranty. My AD did not give it back Us in a nice travel case 🤔😢
I wonder if that's because it was under warranty and I spent no money. I don't know. What's your thoughts?
@@justinhamill954 Did you send it in via an AD or take it directly to Rolex
Literally nearly messaged you about the status of your Explorer yesterday! Great to see you’ve got it back. Pretty reasonable I’d say. Bet you’re happy to have it back! Another set of memories added to it. Enjoy.
lol literally
I need to send mine in. Pray for me 😢
It says a lot that we have to pray before sending a watch to Rolex for service lol
@@WatchClyde it's crazy when I can get my truck serviced for £300 but a quote on a 16750 is £1050 from my local authorized dealer.
@@Pookie2533try getting your truck completely overhauled then see the price
That's not a bad price for the service. And quickly done. That service pouch is a new one! Nicely done.
This is one of the most underrated comments. The servicing component is huge and micro brands just can’t compete with that.
Was waiting for this. Overall a good end to the chapter of this watches certainly long life. Glad everything went smoothly and seemingly, came back exactly how you wanted.
“Mr. Barker…”
Horrible!
Thanks for the candid breakdown of the work. Really informative and breaking down some of the myths out there on a Rolex service. Top video!
carefull might blow up
Bravo foe not getting the dial replaced and the case polished. I’m glad to hear you say that the scratches and dents add to the story of the watch. That’s exactly how I feel as well. Not only do watches tell us the time, they tell us the story of the times we’ve had.
😂😂😂
Chuff in good health. Ciao.
Awesome follow up Adrian!!! I would have thought more as well. Glad you did not polish it. Looks great. The wear shows you love it!!!!
Cheers!
Those clips which cut from bracelet to strap are so sick. So quick. Not groundbreaking but so cool. Haha. Great video, my man.
Happy that all turned out well, Mr. Barker. 😊 Have a great rest of the week, cheers 🙏🏻
A sad start (dropping it) but a very happy ending! And so glad to hear about your positive service experience.
Nice video.
Thanks so much for the transparency. This is information that all watch people want to know. Keep it up Adrian 👍🏻
So happy for you Adrian, two weeks and the pricing is pretty good! The scratches are damn nice. Love it man
Good to hear that Rolex care the utmost about their creations.
That sounds normal for a JLC
I was curious to see what actually happens when sending a watch for a significant boo boo like this. I believe the price was totally reasonable, the turn around terrific, and the customer service first class. I don't want a similar accident- but if it ever happens I feel better about the outcome now.
Photography & filming were SO Great on this video! Well done.
Glad its back safe and sound,
Happy you got your Explorer II back. I was looking forward to this video!
That’s super impressive. I was always curious about their customer service on repairs. Sounds like it’s quite good.
Thanks for sharing your service experience.
Very important, if you ever drop your watch and break the crystal, pull the crown out to stop the movement!
Good advice.
Where exactly did you take it? A shop? A specific Rolex service location?
Thanks for the insight to your experience with your Rolex. I had to send my Tudor back and six weeks turnaround. I was quite expecting to come back with tudor pouch etc.. It came back exactly like yours in rolex pouch and box. 😊
A well executed video on a subject no doubt all here wanted to see and hear of your results!
Love your honesty when discussing the results from Rolex and its costing.
I wonder if Omega will be the same when my 3861 eventually requires a service and God forbid any accidental mishaps !!😮
Great choice on keeping some of the character and it was great to know you have a choice when servicing.
Glad you kept the original dial 👌
Not a horrible bill. Had a similar issue with my Yachtmaster and like you was surprised that it wasn’t as heavy of a bill as I had expected. Great call on keeping the story of the watch by not polishing or changing the dial, creates character and imo adds charm.
Cheers-Mike
I think price was very reasonable considering the damage and its a rolex.
I would of had it polished but that's personal choice.
Most significantly I usually never like straps or natos on anything but that green looks absolutely stunning!!!,
