In this video I cover the following topics in Blender:
1) How to use keyboard shortcut (TAB) and menu to switch between Object Mode and Edit Mode on a selected Mesh object.
2) The Three sub-object elements of meshes: faces, edges, and vertices.
3) Extruding (E) faces to create simple ('Minecraft') objects: I demonstrate how to model a chair.
4) Loop Cut and Slide (ctrl+R): How to create extra Loop Cuts. Loop Cuts add an extra edge-loop around your mesh in the desired location/direction, which allows you to add more detail while modelling.

Glad all these Blender 2.7 tutorials are still around , because my computer won't run a later version. The other commenter is right these are very good tutorials, no rambling, no trying to impress you, just the facts.
I love you, you stranger that teaches me blender
Thanks, I love you too? :P
finally a tutorial series that tells you only what you need to know. honestly, thank you for getting to the point and not telling us your life story like so many others do. keep it up ;)
Thanks!
This! So fucking much!
Youre a great teacher, you say exactly what we need to know when needed
Reed Trent your right
BornCG C'mon I've got 2 thumbs, why can't I use both of them on UA-cam????
Great tutorials. Quick but easy to follow. Perfect!
Thanks!
This tutorial season is just perfect. Perfect pace, remembers to short cuts, etc. from older tutorials. And I can see that you know EXACTLY what you want to teach us and what you are doing. Unlike other "tutorial" makers. :D
Greetings from Germany
Thank you for your kind words. :)
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO DOESNT DELETE THE DEDAULT CUBE AND REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER ONE
I've searched and watched many Blender tutes, yet yours really stand out - you teach very well indeed. Most tutorials are actually people just videoing what they are doing with no or little explanation. You tell us what you are doing and more importantly WHY you are doing it. I almost ditched Blender but it has fast become my preferred object building tool thanks to your tutorials. Great work, thanks for putting the time and effort into making these videos.
Oh my gosh, this tutorial series, perfect! I've been using MIlkshape 3D for donkeys years and just didn't get along with blender. Until now that is, your videos are paced nicely so I'm not falling miles behind. Sweet, sweet Loop Cuts!
I know this video is old but I just have to say this.
As someone with a TV next to my desk, I tend to watch a lot of UA-cam on it as I work in Unity/Blender. I cannot express my level of gratitude for when you split the scene to show the toolbar, as over-scanning has always been an issue.
Seriously, thank you so much.
Thank you very much for sharing your excellent Tutorials with us. They are on the right Gradient of complexity and speed to be able to follow it through while doing the exercise. Explaining the Shortcut Keys and their usage, explaining terminology, so there is no confusion left. I am new to blender and your Tutorials give me hope, that I will understand this rather complex software and can use it productively for my own projects.
If they ever had a blender class, I would be so happy to have you as my teacher!!!
I love this guy I recently decided to get back into the blender and text drink and he's been a great help along the way
Hey, just wanted to say this series is helpful even now because I have some old addons that only work with blender 2.7x and I need to use them for modeling. Specifically the "Trainz" series of Train Simulators. Just starting to get my feet wet, but you're making everything that was at first confusing make much more sense! Excellent job!
Another incredible tute. I am 2 days into learning Blender; this is my favorite series. Thanks loads!
I hope you've learned much mate!
Thanks for your contribution to blender. I have been following your tutorials. Great work!
Thank You you so much for your video. I find your video very helpful and just reconfirming what I already know and filling in the gaps that I either never picked up or forgot.
I just love your tutorials , thank you very very much!
dude, these tutorials are sooooooooooooooooooo goooooooood. I love you.
Very useful videos. Thanks for taking the time to create these. I like the pace.
Learned a lot and continue to watch your tutorials.
the best tutorial i ever watched
Thanks! If you’re using a newer version of blender: 2.8 or 2.9, I have newer tutorials on this and continuing topics modelling and animating in blender.
You're just awesome brother
Thanks for all tutorials
All are very helpful 🌸
Man ,you are a living legend
I gurantee you that this are best blender tuts ever made on yt

Excellent tutorial series. Thank you.
Oh thank goodness I needed these.
Very nice tutorial series. Thank you
Thank you! This so rocks - years ago I made a choice to go 2d, and have kicked myself for not going 3d since - you explain everything so well that I feel like I'm not banging my head on a wall to make the transition :o)!
Best tutorial on YT. Thanks!
Awesome video

Just started watching your series. It's getting intense. Thanks for the videos.

Greetings from India!!
Great tutorial! For true beginners
Thanks alot you are great
Awesome thanks for the tuto
We have an awesome teacher
Wow you are very clever!
Very helpful. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
(Just to add, we can have more than one of those selection modes (vertex, edge, face) in operation at once. Just shift-select to pick more than one.)
Thanks again.
By the way, your explanation of the 'limit selection to visible' icon is super useful.
I've always understood what it means, but I'm always confused about which mode it's in.
Your comment 'if the icon is dark, that means your object is solid and you can't see through it' - finally, it makes sense! Many Thanks.
Very helpful subbed
aww, yes getting into the good stuff
Thank you so much. You are the best! :)
No, YOU'RE the best! ;-)
That is so cool **.

hi thx for tutorial
I commented on your first video a few hours ago that your intro is annoying. Well, it is, but this tutorials series is SO #*@& GOOD that I seriously don't care. Not even slightly. You are a fantastic teacher!
Haha, thanks.. I think. The first tutorial had a longer version of the intro.. all the following ones have a cut-down 8 second version. You're welcome. :P
Awesome Tutorial!! i wish youtube had 2 tumbs up buttons.
Hllo, im person Arabia, and i learning app blender from you, thank you so mach

@@BornCG my pc law end one so this version works 👍
Love the vids.. Clear.. Concise, Little pretense.. My only qualms is the opening intro for your channel IS SUPER LOUD AND BASSY.. Then suddenly quiet, Soft spoken voice.. Always have to fiddle with my volume pod every episode. XD
ah relly i like your teching
thankssss.very useful tutorial
can u make a tutorial to colors and light
Thank you so mush. Greetings from Sweden :)

BornCG Thanks for your tutorials! Greetings from France!

I'd like to make people aware to pay attention when you need to extrude and when youre just simply draging. Instead of extruding the garage o was draging so the corners Came with it and it wasnt a clean brick. Also i was selecting one cut on the roof and the roof wasnt full as there are actually 3 cuts on the roof
Great tutorial series. One comment: you say that you can't scale or rotate a vertex. This is true when the centre of scaling or rotation coincides with your chosen vertex. If, however, you set the centre to e.g. the 3d cursor, then a single vertex can be rotated and scaled relative to the (in this case) 3D cursor.
Holy moley. I've gone all this time without knowing about loop-cutting
I like the starting animation of your vedios
+Alan Becker's Fan thanks! ☺️
+BornCG its no problem I have one ques I like animating and sculpting both and I can do both at same level I think so what should I choose or I choose both
YA DA BEST T TCHER
Could you do an expansion on this and go into Loop Cut Tools? Also how to take (example) a face and extrude it and make it into (example) a cylinder? Thanks
we should be slect (Normal) in a down menu, So we can klik (ctrl+R)
Could you tell me how to export the rendered shapes made in blender into fusion 8...?
Good videos, greetings from Estonia :)
But i have got a problem - I still have internal geomerty (walls etc) even tho I treated multiple sides/faces together (with shift select). Do you have any idea why it might be so and how to avoid it?
do you know how to do that "fit to geometry" thing, where you make the point that declares where the objects position is in the center of the object?
I love this! When I open a program and an ad plays, do you make money on it completing? If you do I want to watch it all the way through so you get more money. If not I'll just skip it.
Brett Brown I have monetized most of my videos =)
sir can u teach us modeling a house but using a precise measurements..?
thx.............................
Needed to get back into Blender, but I've forgotten all the basic stuff...
Greetings from Canada...
СПС ПОМОГ))
When I use this method to model a device, I can't color anything separately. It will only color the entire thing. If I use this easy to remember and control method to create, what are my options for applying different textures and coloring the different parts later? I'm using 2.72B
Funnily enough I'm already familiar with loop cuts, though I never knew what they were called until now. Is there really no other way to do it? I don't mind it, it just feels a little... hack-y. Messy, maybe.
Hi! I know i writting very much but when i am in edit mode and then i select faces, vertices or edges and then when i wanna rotate this selected parts, the axes are in the middle of the selected geometry. But i wanna choose rotation center (point, vertice) of selected part(geometry, limb). I do not speak about origin of object. My question about origin of parts of the object. I hope i could able to explain my problem with this perfect(!) English. Thank you very much for these tutorials you are a real teacher.
You can rotate around your 3d cursor instead of the median point of your selection if you like. There is a pull up menu for this in the header of the 3d view window (at the bottom)
:( how could i forget it. (Because i did not learn this very well) Now, i really understand why that pull up we using for :D Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
I have accidentally switched on some crap, which makes the orange border around a selected object invisible as well as create a couple of other problems. What to do?
I found your video while I was looking for an answer about blender and was curious if you knew how to do that as I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. I was wondering how do I make changes to one side and have if effect the other side as well. For instance say I extrude the west edge 2 units to the west then the east edge would be extruded 2 units east. Thanks for your time
Hey, thanks for checking out my tutorials. :) I actually have two videos on exactly what you're describing. There are two methods of 'Mirroring' a character or symmetrical object as you model. There is the 'Mirror Modifier', and there is the 'Symmetrize' tool. Both have their own benefits -- I prefer symmetrize. Links ua-cam.com/video/q78HcmDAd5s/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/3LwQO_tWTAQ/v-deo.html
BornCG Thank you so much! I'll check them out. Could not think of the word "mirror" to save my life but yes that's what I'm looking for. Thanks for the quick response too!
9:80 sec . legs selection can't be done separately also cancelled the transparent layer you told, but it is selecting some other faces if I select one face,.please answer
At 13:53 when making the other part, mine did do what it suppose to do
14:02 It's called a ridge.
I have a bunch of edges that are facing different directions. They are different lengths. I would like to make them all the same length. Working in 2.77a. Tried to get the make length addon to work, but it moves the edge after. Is there a way to make all the lengths the same? Thanks
Awesome tutorial man!
I'm having an issue with the loop cut. I tried doing the loop cut like you did at 14:25 . But it doesn't loop. The purple line is only shown on the bottom face of the house and garage, and on the side face of the garage. For some reason it skips the top face of the garage, the entire roof, and the other side of the house.
I'm trying to find solutions on Google but the solutions don't seem to working, or I might be doing them wrong.
Any idea what's wrong?
UPDATE: I tried redoing by creating a new Cube. This time everything went just fine. Still wondering what could have caused the problem though. Hopefully some time in the future when I have a little more experience with blender I'll figure it out.
It's because you have N-gons, which are faces with more than 4 sides. These mess up loop cutting. Check out my tutorial #23 on the knife tool for a was of getting around this. :)
Will do. Thanks.
well explained, good tutorial...Blender is a fantastic piece of software, but it is so feature-rich it is intimidating....maybe I will have to stick to physical lego bricks :(
I had a few question, in edit mode, do you have to reset scale to have proper uv scale? with loop cuts, if I wanted to edge loop a certain distance lets say house windows, from each side of the house borders, does the median change this? and for large scenes for imperial units, do I add more lines to grid or change grid scale? and with this being said, the camera scale would scaling down the camera sensor be a good idea since changing the ocean modifier scale messes up the resolution? or would this effect camera display issues when rendering? thanks for your tutorials.
- yes, you should apply the rotation/scale after modeling before you uv map to make sure things aren't stretched.
-You can change the units of measurement used in blender under the 'Scene' tab in the properties window. You can change units to imperial and metric.
BornCG thank you very much.
i dont have any other modes how do i get them
Making the garage, steps, and the nook at the end of the video do not work right. The parts connected follows the part you're pulling out so there's no way to evenly pull it out
When I switch to edit mode my blender doesn't have the different selection methods that were mentioned at 1:37 please help? Whenever I click I get a black circle with a green circle inside it, and draws a pink line following my mouse.
Hi,
In this video, you talk about exact extrusion by pressing 2 and enter, if you want to have exact default cube. But unfortunately, it does not work for me in Blender 2.7.8. Your kind help will be appreciated :)
Please don't mind. I was able to figure it out. Actually, I was pressing 2 in numlock which did not work.
seems like you rushed this one... no screen cast keys and the chair you were going to improve turned into a house you were going to improve. keep up the good work, this is a good series.
If I tap E on my PC is not working
When you pull the garage out the corners of the garage follow with it so it looks bad i did everything no mistakes anything i can do?
Hi Travis
go to tools then click on Extrude individual it's under Add, Extrude on your left side
ether he forgot to say it or there a difference in 2.71. that;s what I'm using.
thanks, I was looking for this aswell
