    This tutorial series is the best I've found anywhere, and I've watched a lot, including on lynda.com and udemy.com - as well as dozens of Blender Guru, tutor4u, CG Cookie Blender, BlenderForNoobs and many, many others. This is not to say that other tutorials are not helpful, as they really are, and I really appreciate all the effort that goes into making all of them, but this series does the best job of taking everything from start to finish and covering all the details in a way that makes everything understandable.

    Literally only 6 lessons in and I went from "This is impossible" to "Hey, I can figure this out" with a program infamous for its difficulty for beginners (which I am). Even moments where what's on my screen isn't exactly the same as what's in the video, you already taught enough for me to know how to fix it on my own. That's just incredible!

    To make a square turn into a sphere, go into edit mode, subdivide, select all (A), space bar, type "to sphere" and click it, move your mouse from left to right or type 1 to make it round.

  • @andreasb7392
    @andreasb7392 8 років тому +3

    [Rounding a cube into a sphere]
    Subdivide Smooth work much better
    select the cube -> Edit Mode -> press W -> Subdivide Smooth
    Tool Shelf -> Numbers of cuts -> 2 or 3
    and you are done!

    I found another way to do the rounding. You can subdivide as you did, but instead of grabbing faces and vertices to scale round all you need to do is press W for specials menu and choose Laplacian smooth and set number of iterations to 20 and Factors to 1.0.

    Thank you very much for sharing your excellent Tutorials with us. They are on the right Gradient of complexity and speed to be able to follow it through while doing the exercise. Explaining the Shortcut Keys and their usage, explaining terminology, so there is no confusion left. I am new to blender and your Tutorials give me hope, that I will understand this rather complex software and can use it productively for my own projects.

    On Ubuntu, Alt-right click brings up a window because the system set a shortcut to that combination. So in Blender, you can use Shift-Alt-right click, which is almost the same - it adds the loop to the selection, but if you had nothing selected, it works perfectly.

    • @viniciusqueiroz2713
      @viniciusqueiroz2713 7 років тому +1

      I don't know why, but in 2.78 and Windows 10 x64, Alt+Right-Click does nothing (not a new window, nor loop selection). Maybe I messed up with some settings, or maybe it's a update thing, I don't know.
      Anyway, your tip to Shift+Alt+Right-Click worked here also!
      Thanks!

    • @viniciusqueiroz2713
      @viniciusqueiroz2713 7 років тому

      Ah, I just figured it out, and decided to just let people know!
      Then, I was messing with input controls to make Blender inputs more like Unreal Engine's (and ultimately, decided to not go for it). I reset to factory settings, but I guess it did not did the job, so I just had to manually restore the 3D View>Mesh settings to make Alt+Right-Click behave like it should! (So you could go there and assign other shortcut, if you don't want the hassle to sometimes misselect another edge along with the edge loop!)
      Perfect function now. Nothing related to 2.78 nor Windows =P

    Hey, great tutorials! Just want to note: around 4:00 of this video when you are explaining how the shape looks a bit funny in perspective mode, I could be wrong and/or you may already know this, but the normals are reversed on some of the faces, making them appear to curve differently. I am currently refreshing on the controls of blender, but I believe there is a way to correct the normals or switch them.

    • @BornCG

      Instructional purposes really... doing it manually shows how scaling around a median point can be used, and that you can make selections, let go of shift, orbit, then resume adding to your original selection.

  • @darkySp
    @darkySp 7 років тому +1

    About an hour ago, i did my very first human-like model
    It was a low-poly Chappie-like robot, but segmented, basically a bunch of symmetrical cubes and triangles floating around.
    This was also the first model for me to put armature on and it worked! Well, almost, for the reason that when i merged all the models, the hands, the legs, on and on, the hands and the lower legs ended up being bound together (also dark in color) and whenever i moved the hand, the lower leg followed, and it was getting deformed. (this didn't happen with the head and the rest of the arms and legs)
    Wanted to ask if you know what may be the cause of it and how it can be fixed, it'll be much appreciated if i get an answer.
    And now that i see that you make tutorials for a lot of things in Blender, i decided to go trough your channel and look at things, it's so clean and organized and i'll sure run trough all of them!
    Thanks for putting stuff out there with the intention to help the smaller fishes, like me :)

    • @BornCG
      @BornCG  7 років тому +1

      +darkySp thanks for watching and your comment! What you're looking for is called weight painting. Check out my mini series playlist on creating a Minecraft character from start to finish, I believe the second tutorial in that(a part of this blender 2.7 series as well) is on weight painting. Weight painting = telling which vertices to be controlled how much by each bone.

    • @darkySp
      @darkySp 7 років тому

      BornCG It isn't just for bones though, it's just the hand and the upper leg, both right, just them, and even if i add a texture to it, the dark color overlaps, so it'll be dark red for example and so on
      I used the Ctrl+J method, happens to me REALLY often, there must be a factor that i can't see... Is there a different way of making multiple objects into one apart from Ctrl+J ?
