I did it the oven way and I also skipped out on the red wine but boy o boy was this delish! and I have tried other recipes on here but this is hands down the best! Thank you!
You dropping the fork at the end is my absolute favorite, it always makes me smile 😁. The Dutch oven method is tried and true, gives the tastiest results. Thanks for another great video!
great video. I've got a suggestion for you with the pressure cooker version. Prepare the roast like you did and add it to the pot with onions, garlic and herbs. Let it cook for 1:10 then release the pressure and add your carrots and potatoes and cook for another 10 minutes. Then, let the pressure release on its own. You can shred the meat with your hands.
It’s 1 am and I just bought a $100 Dutch oven on Amazon because I have been craving pot roast. Same day delivery! I don’t have a crock pot either and I have wanted a Dutch oven for a while. I contemplated buying a $400 one but just now realized I will never spend that kind of money on a pot and the Lodge will do. 😂 I hope it’s delivered before I get home from work so I can make this.
What time is dinner? If you want a cut of meat that will retain more of a roast-like shape rather than being flat like a chuck roast, try a bottom round RUMP roast. It is every bit as tasty and tender as the chuck but retains it's roast shape and is easier to slice. Be sure it is the RUMP though and not just a bottom round.
This recipe is spot on. I was making pot roast and it was pretty, fork tender but flavorless. Tonight my family went for seconds. And this is the first time I have ever made my own gravy. Thank you for this recipe. One of the reasons I didn't cook so much was because my meals were hit or miss. This gets me back in the game. I still don't like the soggy vegetables. So I made potatoes on the side. Next time I will make roasted vegetables on the side.
I always make mine in a crock pot. It's so much easier. The flavor is fantastic! And very tender. My husband and my son are my biggest critics. They love it.
Hey Mr Make it Happen!! I also prefer the chunk roast as well. All of them look delicious 😋 but nothing beats the slow cooked in the oven or crockpot method.. I cook the roast mainly in the oven.. Enjoy!! 😁🐞
@mrmakeithappen. First off I use just about every recipe from you. You have taught me how to cook on another level and I thank you for that. Hope all is well with you. So my question is, if I don't have any red wine what can I use for a substitution? Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family 🦃
I've always used the crockpot as I work long hours and you can't go wrong with it....until you come home and find your kids ate everything in it and left you the fat....😑
Honestly, I followed his recipe a few times, and I sautéed the potatoes with the veggies as he shown, and I dumped everything (potatoes and all) in the crockpot and the potatoes still came out perfect. I done it both on high (4-5 hours) and low (8 hours). Just make sure when you are sautéing your potatoes with the veggies, they are the last thing you add as you just want the potatoes to get some of the flavor, so you dnt end up with over cook potatoes. The potatoes I tried with this recipe were small red and golden potatoes, and the medium red and golden potatoes😊 Let me know if it all worked out on your end =)
I'll have to try this recipe for the crockpot. I think I'm just not cooking it long enough (6 hours on low with recipes I've tried in the past is apparently not long enough and the meat comes apart, but is still tough to chew). Thank you for sharing! Instant pot method comes out perfect, but you have to let it natural pressure release so the meat doesn't get tough, in my experience at least. 45 mins and natural pressure release is money!
At first I was like WTF r they talking about?!?! Then I looked again at bust out laughing. Then I started singing the song. The old one not the one that's out nah. SMDH LOL 😂😂😂
The key to cooking with an instant pot is start with way more liquid than you would with a normal pot. When I do pot roast in an instant pot the broth/liquid comes at least an inch or two above the meat and by the time it’s done the liquid is usually reduced enough that the top of the meat is now exposed and it’s ridiculously juicy
What did you pour in the gravy? Flour water mixture? I will be making this I’m making my grocery list now! Thank you thank you for all your videos even though I take full credit for all the compliments I get from the meals I make from your videos 😂😂 can’t let ppl know I can’t cook on My own 😂 keep em coming!
Can you please explain what you used for your slurry. Corn starch and water? If so, what’s the ratio or Corn starch to water. Also, what material is your Dutch oven made of? Is it cast iron? Thank you!
I prefer to brown it like mad, (so I don't burn my actual seasonings, salt only burns beautifully) BEFORE I add my other seasonings, let the seasoning brown in a bit of butter to deglaze the pan at a much lower temperature. Pepper burns too if you add it too early, which makes it hella bitter, Gordon Ramsay does the same thing and, same with most spices they BURN if you cook it them too hot... Otherwise, love your work
Love the bloopers but I’m curious my daughter and I have a debate I’m assuming you eat one roast with your family but what do you do with the other 2? And my favorite method is oven also
"That don't need nun but a BISCUIT!" 😆 I've always loved when you include bloopers at the end. I'm definitely getting a roast in the oven stat!
Shoot me to
I did it the oven way and I also skipped out on the red wine but boy o boy was this delish! and I have tried other recipes on here but this is hands down the best! Thank you!
When you skip the wine method do you just go straight into adding the broth onto your veggies?
4:39 😂😂 almost dropped the other herbs when I heard this
You dropping the fork at the end is my absolute favorite, it always makes me smile 😁. The Dutch oven method is tried and true, gives the tastiest results. Thanks for another great video!
Love the dutch oven. Only way i cook pot roast!
Tried it the last time and I won’t use anything else! TENDER 👊🏾🙌🏾
I love how you covered 3 in one. ❤ thank you for sharing
You can never go wrong with a pot roast. Fantastic!!

Looks great.... I use the oven method as well.... "Old School"!

I agree wit the two you said .. Looks very very delicious

Looks wonderful . I like to make a roux with butter and flour and add my beef broth from the roast to make an amazing gravy. 🌺🌺🌺

Love the addition of the Bloopers at the end!
The bloopers were great! Thanks Matt.
Got a chance to make this recipe and did not disappoint. Great flavors in the finish so no complaints. My compliments

Man looking great 👍
When to add potatoes to crackpot though?

Let me know if it all worked out on your end =)
Definitely add Red Wine also a Great addition to flavor as well as the "W"sauce
I made your recipe almost exact except I used an apple cidar beer for the deglazing. It was perfect.
Thanks for sharing 👍

I only cook on high for 5-6 hours. Never low
Comes out super tender & falls apart on its own.
“The kind you cook with, not the kind that cook you” 😂😂
I love the mistake reels! 😂
On the thumbnail it looks like Mickey Mouse
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
At first I was like WTF r they talking about?!?! Then I looked again at bust out laughing. Then I started singing the song. The old one not the one that's out nah. SMDH LOL 😂😂😂
😅
I had to look twice. LOL
HAAA it does!!! 😂😂
The bloopers are lowkey funny because I do that ish all the time.
@Mr.Make it happen what was the cream added to to gravy?
Equal parts cornstarch and and cold water slurry. You can use it to thicken any sauce.
Perfect question. I was wondering the same thing.
I'm making this right now lol I can't wait until it's done

lol, not the bloopers nice touch Mr. make it happen!🤍🤍
That "hold on now" almost took me out 😂😂
How’d you know I wanted pot roast 🧐😂 ooou can’t wait
What did you pour in the gravy? Flour water mixture? I will be making this I’m making my grocery list now! Thank you thank you for all your videos even though I take full credit for all the compliments I get from the meals I make from your videos 😂😂 can’t let ppl know I can’t cook on My own 😂 keep em coming!
What is is the "slur" you used to make the gravy? I see the white liquid you pouring in - not sure what that is. Timestap - 6:49
Can you please explain what you used for your slurry. Corn starch and water? If so, what’s the ratio or Corn starch to water. Also, what material is your Dutch oven made of? Is it cast iron? Thank you!
Usually cornstarch and water, equal parts of each. Just make sure and use cold water or you'll have a mess.
Mr. MIH: “The Kind you cook with, not the kind that cooks you” 😐

Yo worst word in the world had me !!! 🤣 🤣… I’m stealing !

Rough day. More wine!!!!!😂😂😂

Hello Matt. Thanks for this video. Can you please do a boneless lamb roast in the crock pot or instant pot?
What was it u use to make the gravy?
What part of va are you in I'm in va also I'm a new comer to your channel an I love it keep up the great work ❤
3 : 25 The one swig for the chef is one of the most important steps
Amazing recipe bro.. Thank you
As far as the wine , what types do you suggest ?
What is the white liquid you used for the gravy?
All I need is to pick up is the beef base. I always use the crockpot. On low for 8 hours, start it Saturday night. I add the potatoes in the morning.
Why I'm chewing while you are chewin!😂😂😂
Thank you. Brother
