Hey Jeff, I just wanted to say thank you. I’ve made this about four times now and my kids absolutely love it. I read a comment above about another single Dad. I have four children and I run a business and my life is really crazy. Feels like this I can throw it together early and the kids absolutely love it. I appreciate the time it takes to put videos like this together for people like us.
Since watching this tutorial I have made this recipe half a dozen times. Needless to say, it has become a house favorite. I have a couple of tips. 1. Don't worry about the gravy mix, especially if you need to be gluten-free; gravy mix is just beef bullion with emulsifiers which is covered by the beef broth and corn starch. 2. Before adding the butter to deglaze the pot add a couple of tablespoons of the wine. This will deglaze the bottom of the pot in seconds rather than having to constantly scrape the bottom.
Additional tip, let your meat cool in the liquid, when you remove hot meat from cooking liquid it steams all the juices out of itself. Since you are going to finish your sauce you will be reheating anyway.

Just made this for New Years. My whole family were blown away. Super amazing and definitely going on our regular house menu. We've had our instant pot for months but this was my first time using it. Super easy and super delicious. If I had to add any critique I would possibly add just a dash less salt. I just made this and it is out of this world! Your instructions are so clear and precise! It was so easy! The meat is like BUTTER! This is the first thing I made in my insta pot and now I'm hooked! Thank you!!!
This is a really "forgiving" recipe, I had the Instant pot for the first 30 minutes without the plastic steam covering on top so it wasn't coming to pressure, just basically slow cooking. I finished it off for 30 minutes with actual pressure cooking, then just added on extra time at the end during the natural release. Still turned out FANTASTIC. Can't wait to see what happens next time when I actually pressure cook it for an hour lol! Thanks for this great recipe, I can't wait to try it again.
I've made a modified version of this recipe three times now, and it's hands down the best pot roast my husband and I have ever had. (My modification is to season the meat with Greek seasoning salt and coat it in herbes de provence, instead of making the rub from scratch as Jeff does. Saves a ton of time and bother, and OMG it's soooooooo good!)
I love that you can audibly hear you salivating over how good this is when your talking about the spuds! Thanks for taking the time to make this video to share something you love with all of us.
This was one of the first recipes I made in my Instant Pot. It came out great! I have since made it several times. It has become a family staple. Since I work, the Instant Pot is my go to appliance. It's fast and best of all I can prepare nutritious food that everyone loves and I don't have to depend on junk food or take out to make sure my family has great tasting food to eat every day, which is just about how often I use my IP. Thanks for the book and the wonderful recipes in it.
Made this tonight… AWESOME!!!! I had purchased a gravy packet to put in this but it disappeared between the grocery store and home. So I added a little extra seasoning instead and it turned out divine! Thanks for another winner Jeffrey!
Hi Jeff. I made this yesterday. It is absolute perfection. I also want to say your videos are so clear and easy to follow, it's almost hard to mess up. I love my Instant Pot so I'm ecstatic to have discovered your channel to give me more things to make in it. I also love your NY accent, It makes me homesick. I'm on the West Coast now, but I'm originally from the East Coast and lived in the NY area for 5 years. I miss it. I can't wait to move back. Take care and keep those delicious recipes coming. Cheers!
I made this for my family’s Sunday dinner. I used some red wine vinegar in place of the good red wine you recommended since we just aren’t drinkers and don’t keep wine in the house. I don’t have your exact version to compare it to, but it was excellent and my husband and three kids loved it. Thanks for all the precise descriptions! Now I’m going to hunt for another good recipe of yours to make.
This was so good that when I was about to rinse the pot of the pressure cooker out, I stopped, got a slice of bread, sopped up the remaining gravy, and enjoyed it. Thanks for the recipe.
I followed your recipe sat night, it was the best roast we ever had, lol it was so good my son didn’t believe I made it. I didn’t have mushrooms so that was left out, I also didn’t have red wine so I substituted that for red wine vinegar. It was amazing! Thank you!!
My instapot came in yesterday, I made a batch of chili beans, turned out good. And this morning I watched your video on how to make a pot roast, my pot roast is in the instapot right now😊your instructions were very ez to follow. Can't wait to taste it. Thank you for the easy to follow instructions👍
I've made this a couple times already, and THIS is a GREAT recipe! My family LOVED it!!! I'll be making this again for dinner tonight & watched again for a refresher. This is an awesome meal, very filling & belly-warming!! Deliciouso!!!
First off thank you for the recipe, it was the first cook I did in my new 6qt instant pot. however, for a lower sodium version, I made it with low sodium beef broth, low sodium Worcestershire sauce, and unsalted butter and it's on the verge of being too salty. I'm glad when I read the ingredients I substituted for lower sodium when I could.
I’ve made this 4 times it is wonderful thanks so much!!! My mother would make the best pot roast and I could never duplicate it, this is the closest I’ve come so thanks for giving back the memory of my mother! Love from Arkansas !!!

Thank you, dear man, for your efforts and contributions ... and a lovely hello to your dear partner, Richard! :)
Wow! I made this on Saturday and the only thing I did different was to leave out the potatoes and carrots until the roast cooked for one hour. Then I added the potatoes and carrots on top of the roast and cooked for another 8 minutes. I finished the leftovers today for lunch.
@@LaGrrrande I've gone this way myself, especially with a good, thick sauce. However, I will say the trick of wrapping them up does look much better than overcooking them in the braising liquid.
I actually split the difference and wrapped the potatoes, then turned them into mashed potatoes instead of adding them back into the pot. Definitely worked nicely.
Had to drop a comment and say thank you. One of the best pot roast recipes I've tried. Just made it and it's awesome. The combination of flavors and wrapping the potatoes and carrots in foil definetly put it over the top. 👍👍👍
I made this tonight on New Years Eve !!! It isn’t your typical pressure cook and serve recipe, but it is certainly worth it!!! Simply the best Pot Roast ever!!! This is a must make recipe!!!
I've had mine just sitting on my counter top. Honestly, I was a bit intimidated by it. You made it clear on how to use it. Here I am using it. FINALLY!
My mom used to make me pot roast on Sunday. She would give me the onions from the bottom of the pot first (like an appetizer) and then serve the meat to everyone else. They were TDF. This looks so good.
Anonymous Nexus that's not what I said. She gave me the onions, like an appetizer, then the meat (after I ate the onions. No one else got a serving of onions separately.) It was my treat. She knew I loved those onions from the bottom of the pot.
OMG JEFF...THANK YOU!!! I made this over the weekend while we were having storms. This was the PERFECT meal that gave me a hug from the inside plus was a good reason to stay safe inside!!! I live alone & I'm enjoying my leftovers for my lunch today. It is the gift that keeps on giving & I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH!!!
When people claim they're making the "Best Ever" anything, I'm usually pretty skeptical but dude, this is seriously the BEST pot roast I have ever made! I didn't even use an Instant Pot, just a standard pressure cooker. Thanks for the recipe!
trailerpark cryptoking U can use the same cooking time mentioned (in any instant pot recipe). Stove top and electric/electronic are the same. The major difference is that the IP turns it on/off for u. With a stovetop, you have to do ur own timing and turning on/off.
This was my husbands and mines first trial with instant pot and omg it was so tasty and flavourful ! We used sweet potatoes and parsnips in foil and carrots but added in sweet baby peas to gravy👍.Will continue to check out your recipes, great stuff!
I have cooked this recipe three times already and it's my all time favorite meal to make. I also sing along with you with that onion song. "first you brown the onion.." freaking love it. Thank you for making this video!!
I just bought one of these as a present to myself! Had the old fashioned kind. It looks delicious and you're a great instructor. I only have one suggestion (I've been cooking for 55 years LOL) Add a teensy bit of your seasoning mixture to the vegetables in your packets. One rule of a great soup, stew, casserole is layered flavors. Adding a bit f seasoning to your veggies will add a bit of depth.
Just came across this video, I can't wait to try this method. I've always cooked my roast by itself for 45 min and then put the veggies in and go another 20 min. This seems like a much more efficient way to do it. I guess putting the veggies in foil keeps them from completely breaking down which they would if they cooked in the liquid for an hour. I also love the idea of the trivet.
This was my first time cooking in the instant pot and really cooking at all ever and the meal was absolutely delicious. Thanks for the step by step of this and making my favorite meal from your kitchen to mine. Perfect meal.
I agree Sharon - the carrots and potatoes would have fitted into the stainless steel steamer basket balanced on the meat. I'll do it that way. Great recipe Jeff.

Rockabilly Bird Why? because the planet needs more trash that will never decompose ..and it’s too hard to wash one more dish with the others?? One time use & straight to the landfills. I don’t mean to sound snarky. It just seems like we’re all going about our daily activity acting like we care about the planet but we do the opposite. I do it too, but I’m trying to cut down. I cut out Starbucks because of all the cups lids & whatever they use to make it. Now I’m making my own coffees & using a metal sippee cup - same cup for well over 2 years. One piece less, per person per day, would have tremendous impact for the next generations on saving the planet. We should ALL be together on reducing our waste. 🤔
Looks good, but I think I'd set it for 45 minutes, open it and add my carrots n potatoes then close up n cook another 15-20 minutes. I need the flavor in my veggies! 👍
The potatoes and carrrots definitely don’t end up mush adding them later...they defiantly can and do melt in your mouth cooking with the meat unwrapped...it’s preference...some like melt in mouth, others a little less cooked...yummy either way!
I did too...that's why I'm on Utube hunting down recipes! My first try was Chicken and rice...OMG! 20 minutes and perfection! Right now I am making the rest of the chicken into chicken and dumplings :)
I did it ! Thank you, wish I could upload a scratch n sniff in my story. My husband said it was my best pot roast it was !! Been cooking from scratch for 37 plus years! Blessings!
This is seriously THE BEST pot roast recipe, ever ! And the first receipt I made in my instant pot. You can Have Dinner as pot roast stew with biscuits. Yummy. But I used the left overs to make a toasted "steak and cheese" grinder, with lettuce, tomato and banana peppers. Used the gravy as a sauce to put on it. ( Can't let that gravy go to waste, either. Lolo) OMG, SOooo good 👍😊 Thanks for the recipe.
This was my first ever recipe I made with my instant pot, I think my roast could have done with a few extra minutes as it was a little bit tough but I think that had to do with mine being slightly larger than yours. I learned my lesson and adjusted for next time, it was still great though, the pot was emptied lol. TY :)

I made this tonight. He is absolutely right. The veg was cooked perfectly. The roast was succulent. The gravy was delicious. Thank you so much!!!
Just made this and it’s truly the BEST pot roast my husband and I have ever had!! You HAVE to make it!!
I’ve made this about 5x and this recipe is literal gold. I make this with mashed potatoes and we love it. So grateful for this channel!
I love that you can audibly hear you salivating over how good this is when your talking about the spuds! Thanks for taking the time to make this video to share something you love with all of us.
This is my favorite dish I've had in the Instant Pot so far. My wife absolutely loves it! THANKS.
Do you have the ingredient list?
This was my first instant pot experience and hands down one of the best meals I’ve ever made. This recipe and instructions were spot on!
Made this tonight… AWESOME!!!!
I had purchased a gravy packet to put in this but it disappeared between the grocery store and home. So I added a little extra seasoning instead and it turned out divine! Thanks for another winner Jeffrey!
You are so funny and made me laugh and laugh! Lost it, lol
Cheers!
I am making this today - my very first recipe in my new Instant Pot Max. I wish everyone could smell how AMAZING my kitchen smells right now!
I thought it was just me. We sopped up every drop. Delish!
I followed your recipe sat night, it was the best roast we ever had, lol it was so good my son didn’t believe I made it. I didn’t have mushrooms so that was left out, I also didn’t have red wine so I substituted that for red wine vinegar. It was amazing! Thank you!!
Red wine vinegar or regular plain vinegar?
@@NaziaAZaidi she says red wine vinegar. Not just vinegar.
Glad I saw this comment! Thanks for sharing!
I think that I'm going to use the wine and a couple tablespoons of red wine vinegar as well.
I used grape juice in place of the wine because I didn't have any. It was perfect.
Made this last night...first time using my Instant Pot. Thank you for the directions/recipe/instant pot usage guidance! The food was perfection!
I'm trying this thing myself in my brand new 6qt instant pot.. wish me luck I'm using a London broil. 👍
I’ve made this 4 times it is wonderful thanks so much!!! My mother would make the best pot roast and I could never duplicate it, this is the closest I’ve come so thanks for giving back the memory of my mother! Love from Arkansas !!!
The first roast I ever cooked at age 59, and it came out fantastic and is going to part of our Thanksgiving meal today. Thanks so much. 🙏🏽
Oh my gosh! I tuned into your videos, as soon as I got my Instant pot duo mini ... please know, your "instruction video" gave me the confidence to set up and begin using this amazing tool...which I have used to make many soups (since I had all my remaining injured teeth removed, after the car crash that killed my dear husband). I absolutely luv your positive, happy, upbeat presentations! which are clear and concise - leading to delicious meals, as an end result, when using this wonderful kitchen helper! Thank you, dear man, for your efforts and contributions ... and a lovely hello to your dear partner, Richard! :)
I really hope that you’re doing better now 🙏
It’s been a year since your comment. I hope you are in a better place. Prayers and love the you.
Wow! I made this on Saturday and the only thing I did different was to leave out the potatoes and carrots until the roast cooked for one hour. Then I added the potatoes and carrots on top of the roast and cooked for another 8 minutes. I finished the leftovers today for lunch.
How did you add the veggies without releasing the pressure? Or did you just start it up again. I'm assuming you didn't use the foil?
I personally like to omit the potatoes entirely, then just serve it over mashed potatoes.
@Elizabeth Long exactly. Its a neurotoxin!
I just made this tonight and it was my first ever instant pot attempt and it was delicious. 😋😋
Had to drop a comment and say thank you. One of the best pot roast recipes I've tried. Just made it and it's awesome. The combination of flavors and wrapping the potatoes and carrots in foil definetly put it over the top. 👍👍👍
Great job!
The onions in this recipe, effectively disappear into the sauce.
Risa's Kluttered Kitchen was
I'm sorry your Mom wouldn't let you eat the meat too. That's shitty.
Anonymous Nexus that's not what I said. She gave me the onions, like an appetizer, then the meat (after I ate the onions. No one else got a serving of onions separately.) It was my treat. She knew I loved those onions from the bottom of the pot.
@@GeetaGalaway That's clearly not what she said.
I love your presentation. People from Queens are so much fun to watch.
What an endorsement! SO glad you loved it, Marissa! Xo!
When people claim they're making the "Best Ever" anything, I'm usually pretty skeptical but dude, this is seriously the BEST pot roast I have ever made! I didn't even use an Instant Pot, just a standard pressure cooker.
Thanks for the recipe!
Gerrit Hoevers how long did you cook in conventional pressure cooker? Thanks
trailerpark cryptoking U can use the same cooking time mentioned (in any instant pot recipe). Stove top and electric/electronic are the same. The major difference is that the IP turns it on/off for u. With a stovetop, you have to do ur own timing and turning on/off.
Same! I did it with my pressure cooker... several times actually! Love it! Great recipe!
Love that song too 😂😊
I love the fact you put the veggies in a foil pack. I've never seen that done and my biggest complaint is they get mushy.
Are u saying putting it in tin foil is good or bad
@@Matt-ym3if putting them in tin foil helps them cook without getting all mushy. Its a great thing.
What about the aluminium toxins.. won't they leech into the gravy?
I just bought one of these as a present to myself! Had the old fashioned kind. It looks delicious and you're a great instructor. I only have one suggestion (I've been cooking for 55 years LOL) Add a teensy bit of your seasoning mixture to the vegetables in your packets. One rule of a great soup, stew, casserole is layered flavors. Adding a bit f seasoning to your veggies will add a bit of depth.
gt27312 what kind of seasoning would you add to the veggies?
@@tomatexelon try adding some salt, pepper and maybe some diced onion. I really like onions so I'll use them every chance I get.
Made this last night. It was awesome. This was my first meal in my instapot.
I agree Sharon - the carrots and potatoes would have fitted into the stainless steel steamer basket balanced on the meat. I'll do it that way. Great recipe Jeff.
Just made this for the first time tonight, and oh my god was it freaking delicious! Can’t wait to try the pastrami recipe!
I’ve made this 4 or 5 times, I’m doing it again today. This is one of the best stew/soup/roast ever! I thank you, and my family thanks you!
You have made my Instant Pot come alive. I have purchased your book and I have told a lot of coworkers. God Bless! Keep posting!
I always come back to this video every time I make a roast in my instapot. Today is one of those days! ❤️
I made this for my family today. We all loved it! I'm so happy I found your channel. Thank you thank you! ❤
My Instapot arrived at 5 and your pot roast was in it 15 minutes later. The family and I loved it.
I looked at least 10 recipes before finding yours hands down the best ever congrats mate for New Zealand
Also, if you’re new to pressure luck, please do go to his website. I find so many great and perfect recipes there.
So true
Thank you. First view of this channel. I appreciate the tip. AWESOME. I'm downsizing now to live on the road. I need Instant Pot recipes. :) COOL.
Thanks for info 💕
@@tracischeelk29 if you get on pinterest well actually I think it's on UA-cam as well, they have an instant pot jalepeno popper chicken chili that I cant live without lol enjoy!
I'm new here, thanks, I'll check it out. I didn't know he had a website. Cheers
Made this pot roast yesterday and the only thing I changed was the type of mushrooms. I used shiitake. Best damn pot roast I've ever made! I'm hooked on @PressureuckCooking!
I used magic mushrooms--forget your troubles & now get happy...
www.chowhound.com/food-news/54811/know-your-mushrooms/amp ❤️👍🏻
I just love this !!! I already made this about 4 time !!! Perfection each time!!! ♥️♥️♥️
I keep making this over the years. So good! Thank you for sharing. I usually never comment on UA-cam videos but I just wanted to say thank you. I have made this at least 10 times now over the course of 5ish years and it’s always a huge hit. Instant pot or tweaked for a crockpot slow cook as well! The veggies in foil is genius and a life hack I will continue to use. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Another treasure, Jeff. I served mine over a bed of wide egg noodles. There are never enough carbs. I'm tempted to add sour cream the next time to create a Polish Stroganoff.
Felix Klempka 7
Felix Klempka sounds good both ideas
I serve EVERYTHING over rice or egg noodles! LOL😎
Yum! You had me at anything Polish! Best food ever! 😀
omg i now love you too, great idea
I just made this, and it turned out fabulous. It’s tender juicy flavorful, the wine gives it a good flavor. I just got my first insta pot and this is my first meal.
I’ve made this so many times I can’t remember how many. I’ve made it with every cut of meat you mentioned. I especially love using a chuck roast from Costco for this recipe. Thanks for this! 👍🏻👍🏻
Great entertainment, you could do commercials, just a thought
I just got an Instant Pot for Xmas and finally used it for the first time last night by making this. You did not oversell this. It. Was. AMAZING. I will be making this again and again. The meat was so perfectly cooked. Best pot roast I have ever had. Period.
I just made this as my first ever instant pot meal. My 5 year old just turned to me and said it is amazing. Thank you!!!
The vegetables in the foil is such a good little hack! I have struggled with getting veggies the right consistency when cooking alongside other stuff in the instant pot
I made this last night. Absolutely the best pot roast ever, thank you for sharing.

I watched last few minutes of him "over-praising" it, and I started to doubt. But, then, let my wife watch and she said that she feels same way with some of her recipes. So, I'm sold on how good this is (without making it) -- can't wait to make it. We just make Pot Roast and it was SO-SO. Now, this is our next Pot Roast in few weeks ...
@@catherinee.linton9783 How was it?
This now is my new go to pot roast recipe. Made this.5 times already. Its foolproof. Soooo delicious! No leftovers everytime. Hubby and kids love it! Thanks for sharing❤️
I use a cookie sheet covered with foil to coat the roast in seasoning. No mess!

@@nobodynone1297 - Tell that to my sister, you idiot.
Looks good, but I think I'd set it for 45 minutes, open it and add my carrots n potatoes then close up n cook another 15-20 minutes. I need the flavor in my veggies! 👍
Maureen R if you cook carrots and chopped potatoes for 15 minutes, you’ll end up with mushz
@@kkkristi then for how long?
The potatoes and carrrots definitely don’t end up mush adding them later...they defiantly can and do melt in your mouth cooking with the meat unwrapped...it’s preference...some like melt in mouth, others a little less cooked...yummy either way!
6 people would definitely need more carrots & potatoes!
Bro… 10/10 simple pot roast recipe. It’s my go to now. Also Astoria C Town represent lmao
I got a new instant pot for Christmas I can’t wait to make this!!

TY :)
